For me, I can eat thinned yogurt and cream or tomato Soup. I have a hard time with shakes. I'm not sure if I drank to many before surgery and I'm just having a hard time getting them down. Everything makes me cramp. I hope your pouch starts feeling better soon! I broke down and cried like a baby the other day. I think I'm just tired of feeling bad...ya know? !

Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt is really good. Refried Beans with cheese. chicken salad or tuna salad, needs to be pureed though... Ricotta cheese topped with Pasta sauce. Any of the Soups you ate on full liquids can be pureed and eaten now without making them so runny, they become much more satisfying.

Hi! I'm new to the board. I was sleeved March 26th. I'm having a hard time with the pureed stage, I can't handle actually pureeing food and I don't eat any fish. I've been pretty much sticking to my shakes, cottage cheese and plain greek yogurt. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Eggs & yogurt. I had just started purées. -
I was eating a lot of chicken taco meat (cook it at home and throw it in the blender with spicy salsa for a good kick), refried beans, Greek yogurt, and scrambled eggs.

I was on pureed foods until week 4 post op. Not my favorite stage. I could not tolerate the texture of pureed meats si I lived on cottage cheese, yogurt, soFt cooked and mashed carrots and protein shakes. I was so excited when I got to transition to soft foods although it really did take some getting used to. I could eat three or four bites and I would be very full

Cheating and how to overcome cravings pre-op?
dwarfbunnymama replied to nyxn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on March 18 in Pennsylvania. My 2 week pre-op diet was a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was a reasonable dinner with protein first. I was also allowed two snacks per day which was Greek Yogurt Lite or protein bar. I lost six pounds on the pre-op diet and to date have lost 22 lbs. It sounds like each doctor or weight loss center has different guidelines. -
hey all....ok, today is 4 days out...hard to get all h20 in and working on a little bit of yogurt...some pain but mostly gas in my chest...hoping that fun stuff goes fast....how is everyone else coming along?

Protein shakes instead of snacIs on top of meals could be why you are bouncing up and down. The best thing you can do to lose some weight quickly is use them to replace your Breakfast and lunch and then have a very light meal for dinner consisting Of 4/6 oz. of healthy protein , salad with light dressing and vegetables. Steer clear of Pasta, bread, rice, potatoes and sweets. If you get hungry in between meals drink 8 oz. of fat free or 1 percent milk. Or have a Light yogurt. If you stick to a plan like this you will absolutely lose weight. Also Make sure you are drinking between 48 and 64 oz. of Water. Steer clear of liquids that have sugar or caffeine, the sugar will hurt your progress and the caffeine will make yOu hungry. After surgery you would be following a similiar way of life, this will help u get ready for it.

Unexpected surprise expenses
blondebomb replied to KC VSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to use my own suppliments from the beginning. and actually since surgery we have saved more money since I wasnt hardly eating solids for several months and what I did eat wasn't much. I drank the pure protein drinks. yes off the bat I did try a few different types of protein powder's till I settled but what I had extra I put in the hubs smoothies. I didn't buy anything off the bariatric website. I did buy the big container of unflavored you bought and I used it for a few wks and I added it to all the soups I ate I added it in my coffee my hot tea yogurt pudding if it could be added to something I did. but what I have had out of pocket the past 10 months did/t compare to what we were spending eating out all the time. I have heard some surgeons require buying their brand of suppliments , bars and shakes mine didn't. the month before my surgery I stocked and believe me I over bought! I didn't have to buy shakes and soups for a while...its worth it! -
Unexpected surprise expenses
BLERDgirl replied to KC VSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't buy bariatric vitamins/supplements. I just went to Walgreen and bought regular vitamins. I think they are by Nature's Bounty. The exception was my multi. For the first 2 months I bought KIND vitamins. They are all food and water soluble so when I crushed them I could mix them with almond butter, apple sauce or yogurt. Before committing to Isopure, try a few samples. I trued several from Whole Foods, some from CVS and a few from Vitamin shop. I believe there is a place online where you can purchase a sample pack. Try mixing them with skim milk, water and diluted juice to see if you tolerate it. I only bought a 2 week supply for post op because people said their taste buds changed. Once I knew I liked it, I then bought a full size. FYI - If you buy the Isopure, keep your receipt. If you do not like it you can return the unused portion. -
I LOVE deviled eggs! They are especially yummy with bacon bits sprinkled in the yolk mixture. Have you tried refried beans? Hummus? Avacodos/guacamole? Split pea soup? Greek Yogurt? Deviled ham? Pureed tuna salad? Fake crab meat (Krab)? String cheese? These were some of my favorite pureed/soft food options. I also mixed unflavored protein powder in every soup or broth I could find....French onion, butternut squash, potato leek, tortilla soup, hot and sour, cream of mushroom, asparagus, vegetable barley, etc.

I slowly started adding more fat and healthy carbs when I was within 10 pounds of my goal weight. Switched from skim milk to 1%, fat free cottage cheese to regular, 0% Greek yogurt to 2%, replaced some protein bars with whole grain bars and homemade granola, ate more fruit and nuts, allowed myself a few more deserts, etc. I lost another 20 pounds even after transitioning to a "maintenance diet". My body just found its new normal and I can pretty much keep myself within a 4-5 pound bounce range just by altering my carb intake up or down as needed. Basically eat whatever unless I hit the top end of my range then I go back to protein and veggie basics until I'm back to the bottom of my range. I still always get 60-80g protein, 64+ oz water, a variety of veggies and all my vitamins.

Are you following a Paleo Diet?
Alex Brecher replied to My Bariatric Life's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nope, I don’t follow a paleo diet. I can’t ignore all the studies linking whole grain consumption to reduced risk for heart disease and diabetes. And I really don’t see a problem with Beans and dairy (as long as you’re not lactose intolerant, of course). Yes, it’s great to cut out many processed foods with added sugars, solid fats, and too much salt, as the paleo diet does. I think there’s a happy medium between the SAD and a paleo diet. For me personally, it’s about the calories. If I eat the same number of calories, I can eat them from (say) oatmeal and yogurt (non-paleo) or from (say) chicken and broccoli (paleo) and my weight will turn out the same. So, I try to eat unprocessed, high-fiber, and high-protein, but I don’t eliminate food groups like whole grains and dairy and legumes. -
Gastric Bypass Veterans - Get real with me!
esskay77 replied to ilikecake2much's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My "good" average day: Kashi bar and coffee for Breakfast Hardboiled egg about an hour later If I have time, I have a nf greek yogurt for a snack lunch is usually some grilled chicken from the salad bar and some red onions, green peppers, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinegar (and sometimes a bit of olive oil) If I remember but I usually forget: another yogurt or some cottage cheese for mid day snack dinner is usually some chicken or ground turkey meal (turkey chili, baked chicken, sauteed chicken, chicken stir fry, that sort of thing). Protein bar for dessert (Quest or other) I don't dump from any of that. If I'm cheating it may or may not get me but my symptoms are pretty mild. Some people don't get this, others get it really bad. The best thing is to eat right and you won't have to worry! -
Reversal for gastric sleeve?
Gladys62 replied to Gladys62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THANK YOU!!!! See this is the kind of stuff it would have been nice if I could have discussed it with my doctor. I love this site! You are all helping me. I'm TRYING to pump up my bravery! I'm testing so we will see. I found a berry flavored protein and I tried it in a vanilla Greek yogurt....nope. Not my thing. Lol. Maybe I put to much. I MAY try again. I am doing well with Sobe waters, vitamin waters, and Powerade with a little water added. I got 32 oz Powerade in yesterday!! Not much food but fluids are starting to make it thanks to suggestions on here! Your posts are appreciated more than you know!!! -
I was lactose intolerant after surgery, too. The funny thing is I could tolerate Greek yogurt but not milk. Fortunately the symptoms disappeared after about 4 months. During that time I stuck with Lactaid milk and Soy milk because the alternative almond milk, coconut milk, etc. have almost no protein. Now that I'm in maintenance and have no problems getting in all my protein, I have added in some of those other milks. BTW, I also couldn't tolerate plain water or artificial sweeteners postop, but that passed around the 4 month mark, too.

What are your favorite Quest Nutrition products?
ls27 replied to foreversleeved08's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just bought the vanilla Quest Protein powder and it's amazing. I hate vanilla ! I wanted something to mix my fruits with. This is it. I've tried ever brand. 1 scoop quest vanilla Decaf coffee 6 oz Ice Torani sf vanilla cinnamon Tastes better than any frap! Quest bars. I have like 1/4 - 1/2 every night. I cut them into 8 pieces and bake them on 350 for 6-8 minutes. I like them crunchy like a cookie. And then I put some nuts n more brand pb on top. Amazing protein snack! I recently tried the b-up brand Protein Bars. They are more expensive than quest. I got sugar cookie and cinnamon bun. Amazing!!!!! It's a great snack to satisfy a sweet tooth which I do have. I had 1/4 of a bar mixed with key lime greek yogurt. Awesome!!!!! -
Can I ask--why are you not taking your Vitamins? This is crucial to your health. Not for weight loss but for your health. It is not optional. Are you just against taking vitamins? Do you not like the flavors? Even though I'm a year out, I still prefer the chewables because it takes the edge off in the morning before Breakfast. It's ok to not like eggs. Not everybody does. But you should be focusing on lean proteins--chicken, fish, shell fish, yogurt, cottage cheese, that sort of thing. I live on the Dannon Light and Fit greek yogurts. It's 80 calories and delish! It's usually my mid morning snack and sometimes my mid day snack. Also, it is very important to keep a food journal. It's magical how just writing down what you eat helps you focus and lose weight. Write down what you eat, or better yet, write down what you WILL be eating for the week and follow it. Track Protein grams (forget about calories!!). Also, track your mood with your meals. That's really important, too. Best of luck.

9days PostOp: Not hungry...barely eating
samuelsmom replied to ladycook9713's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might find unjury chicken broth works. Tastes good and has plenty of Protein. Good Luck. Will you be starting purees soon? That might make things easier. What about greek yogurt? That saved me in the early stages! -
Unjury: do they HAVE to be frozen?
Okiebon replied to meyouus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The powders should be mixed with milk or Water, then stirred or shaken in a shaker bottle to make a drink. When I want them really cold I'll add ice after preparing the drink. They can be mixed in a blender with yogurt, fruit, etc. but normally aren't for just drinks. -
You will get sick very quickly if you don't start to get proper nutrition. I too cannot eat eggs. If you eat yogurt, you can buy Protein granola which will also boost the protein. It is very good. If you don't like your Protein shakes you have to find one that works for you. I use Premier Protein chocolate and it is excellent. You can get them at costco or Sam's. No matter how much you struggle you have to take your supplements. I hate to be harsh here but you should have known what you were signing up for. There are not that many to take, you just have to do it, every single day. Honestly sf Jello is pretty worthless. You should be at a point where you can eat fish, chicken, shrimp, cheese. These are the things most of us live on. I wish you the best of luck and sure hope you really focus on good nutrition.

These are great suggestions Canyon! Thank you so much! I am scared about my hair falling out, so the Nioxin suggestion is great. I've started stockpiling soups (tomato, cream of mushroom, butternut squash), and made a list to get puddings, yogurts, etc., a couple of days before surgery. While I have tons of support from my friends, most/ all of the post-op (preparing meals, etc.) will be on my own so planning in advance is crucial.

I was sleeved on March 31st, and I have had ZERO issues! I had no gas to speak of after surgery; no pain, no nausea....nothing! I'm starting to feel very fatigued, so that's about the biggest issue I've had since Tuesday's surgery. But, I am working on getting my Protein in by focusing on the protein shakes; they are by far the best source of a large amount of protein. I've managed to eat 2 oz. of cottage cheese and yogurt as well, twice a day, and am up to about 35-40 oz. of Water per day. I also haven't had any acid reflux, and I suffered with that prior to surgery. I've lost 11 lbs. since last Sunday.....so, I am SO happy I did this for myself, and all of my fears and worries were for naught!! I hope and pray everyone else has the same, amazing experience I've had. Blessing to you all~~

Shakes Versus Bars - Switching Back
DeanBean replied to heynowkc's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Milk adds Protein and makes a Protein shake creamy and delicious. If not milk, maybe yogurt?
