How many do you have?
Delivered replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Onmywaytoslimville, Thanks for sharing a part of your story in this thread. Like you, I have set small goals to accomplish on this weight loss journey. I started out at 213 lbs, so my first goal was to enter onderland again...so I celebrated 199 lbs. I am currently 188 lbs., and my next goal is 180 lbs. and I plan to set goals in chunks of ten pounds until I reach my ultimate goal of 150 lbs. The smallest I have been in the last 10 or so years is 158 lbs., so I definitely look forward to losing some virgin fat. Good luck everyone and KUTGW...because we're worth it! -
lap band pain vs tubal litigation pain?
Esmeralda replied to jackie506's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my band in 01/07/05 and my tubal 08/06 and my band was no pain at all but my tubal I was out for 2 weeks, my doctor would'nt do it through my belly button because she didnt understand how the band was done so she went through my pubic line with a 3-4 inch incision, it is just like having a c-section but with no baby. -
Seppi, get out and walk, walking is the best cure for the gas. If the protein drink is causing you gas, buy a protein drink with no whey or soy, but honestly tell your friend that many bandsters have gas pains for 2-3 weeks after surgery, it has nothing to do with the protein drinks. I was not allowed protein drinks for 10 days after my surgery, and I had gas. You are only 3 days post op, totally normal Seppi to have painful gas pains, again walking is thebest cure, maybe a little gas x too hang tough, it gets better

After months of complications (leaking port and then a flipped port) I finally had restriction. I was losing weight, eating well and enjoying my band. After 2 months I decided I needed a fill and scheduled an appointment with my doctor since I was eating more than I should. My doctor gave me a small fill (.2) and it felt like he actually removed Fluid. I have been eating like crazy (I am an admitted stress eater and I am traveling to Chicago every other week (sometimes weekly) to train someone else to take my job due to the company deciding to relocate our office and will be out of a job in November). I have GAINED 10 pounds in 1 week! I have been making bad choices and eating way more than I should (not forcing food down). I have called my doctors office for help. I totally understand that I will get some bashing responses but some encouragement would be nice.

How do they pick your goal weight?
Arabesque replied to vikingbeast's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The truth is the average weight loss at three to five years is about 65% of the weight you have to lose (that is the weight that puts you in the healthy BMI range - higher end if you are a larger frame, lower if you’ve a smaller frame). Your surgeon may have given you a goal weight of where you may end up at based on these averages. Better to under promise & over deliver thinking. Some medical teams discuss where you’d like to be. Mine did. Mine was based on the lowest weight I could always get down to before gaining again which was on the upper end of the BMI range (cause I thought I had a larger frame - turns out I don’t). It was deemed a reasonable, healthy & attainable goal based upon my history. I know many people poo poo BMI but look at it as a guide, not a hard & fast rule. Amend it based on your body type, frame, muscle mass, etc. Plus you know how your body works & functions best - it may be at a higher or lower weight. You know you functioned well at a lower weight when lifting so that may be somewhere for you to aim as against what your surgeon suggested. I’ve lost way more than my goal & have been working at maintaining it for about 10 months - so I’ve got a long way to go. Looking at my stats, you may expect me to be bony but I’m not. But that’s me. Someone with a different body shape & frame may be very bony at the same BMI. As long as the weight you reach is healthy & sustainable everything is great. The surgery will rest your basal metabolic rate & that will dictate how much weight you lose too. This video by Dr Matt Weiner may be helpful. He has a lot on this topic. Good luck. -

Hey guys... I have been out of surgery 5 days and I notice I've been sweating CONSTANTLY. Even if I'm cold I'm still sweating. If I stand for more than 10 minutes, sweat. Wake up in the middle of the night, drenched. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

800 Calories Per Day
Walter.Sobchak replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Naw, your joke about methadone is not offensive. I am not some fragile person that cannot take a joke. The only drug I ever struggled with was weed, I still love it. But sadly I cannot use it or it will consume me, all I will want to do is get high. And I don’t mean just a little high, I mean like semi coma high. I am an alcoholic to the bone, I cannot even have one drink or I will drink every day after that. The only option I have is to abstain and stay sober. I used to go to OA about 10 years ago. I never got really that active into it, but liked the meetings. I have found a meeting near my house, but haven’t gone yet. I am a food addict for sure, I will abuse food just like a drug. -
Eating "Normal" 10 months post op
Pixie Dust replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That makes me happy! Thank you for sharing! I may have my surgery June/July & we're going to Disney World, Dec 18th for 10 days. I keep wondering what I will be eating by then?? Regular (limited) foods, or am I still going to be eating mush? -
Having difficutly with finality.....
"Just" Paul replied to vluckey's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went through the first few months on such a high from my weight loss, I did not have time to grieve. Now, as the loss settles down, there are times when I miss eating "normal" (Normal, meaning the way I ate before, and likely the way most Americans eat all the time). I do miss biting into a big hamburger, or having a big plate of food. For me, I think it is the sensation, not the flavor. I can eat anything (almost) in reasonable quantities, as long as there are small bites, well chewed. But, a big bite of a double-decker burger, with cheese, lettuce, tomato onion and bacon, with a sourdough bun... I couldn't take that big bite... and in reality, it is not the same sensation as taking that little pee-pee bite I take now. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't. So, no, food is not my life, but like anything else you give up (smoking, coffee, alcohol...) you will have times of feeling withdrawal, at least I do. But, you know, when I look in the mirror, stand on the scale, bike 10 miles, or just not get winded going up a flight of stairs, I don't regret it one bit. Hmmmmm... I think I'm making burgers for dinner tonight. -
Would love to hear from others whose BMI is less than 40 or who started at BMI of 35 or less. Unlike many, I have not been morbidly obese for my entire life. Yes, I know I'm lucky. After successful treatment for 2 cancers - both still in remission after 8 and 9 years, then an appendectomy in 2012, found my weight constantly moving upward from 141 (BMI 25) to 200 (BMI 35). The last 18 months my weight zoomed from 184 to 200 while I was working on medical weight loss with my doctors. I have high cholesterol and GERDS so when I hit 35 BMI my doctor suggested RNY. The surgery was August 2 2017, so just a week out. My stretch goal is 130; my stable, long term goal is 140. I was at 189 after my pre op diet so I only have 59 lbs to lose. That sounds like so little compared to the legions of others who have a much larger hurdle to jump. I'm 67. If this were 10 years ago I'd have waited on the surgery and tried other things (not sure what though), but I do not want to be a fat, sick old lady. Delaying surgery wasn't an option for me. Would love to hear from others in similar situations.

That is supposed to happen - there is 10-14 day lapse before your fill takes. Don't worry

Went to the Dr last week. Have to lose 36 lbs before surgery. Lost 17 in the last month! I can't get off work in October, so I'm looking toward the end of October or beginning of November. Doc said there should be no problem having surgery on Oct. 30! Just have to lose 19 more pesky pounds...

10 day preop diet
sweetcheeks709 replied to Kpar909956's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 2 week liquid diet I have to do. Its almost all protein shakes that I got from my Drs office and 1-2 cups of veggies until 3 days before surgery then its straight protein shakes. For 2 weeks.. :/ Sorry I'm still wrapping my head around it lol. I start that on 10/5, with surgery on 10/20.. I'm a little jealous of the people that only have to do a low carb diet or a few days of liquids. -
Mine is 10 day all liquid. Have my preop class sept 30. Hopefully this will explain more what I can have
-
I was supposed to do 14 days of Protein shakes and clear liquid only but I got a call asking if I wanted to move up my surgery. I am now on day 5 of 10 days of 4 protein shakes per day and no food. Honestly, it's not as hard as I thought it would be. I do make dinner for my family and the smells make me a little hungry but I try to plan my shakes as I cook. The only thing that I have noticed is that I am really tired. If I sit, I fall asleep. Can't wait until Friday!

revision RNY GB to DS Revision
cjwilson80 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi! I'm new here, I just googled "Weight Loss Surgery Discussion Boards" and this is the first site that popped up. I hope I'm in the right place... I had Open RNY GB in May of 2002. My weight the morning of surgery was 310lbs. I lost over 100 lbs in the first 10 months and got down to my lowest weight of 153lbs about 2 years after surgery. I was feeling fabulous! However, over the years, I was able to maintain at about 170-180lbs consistently, until I gave birth to my son in 2012. After he was born, I wasn't able to lose all of the weight I gained during pregnancy. I was around 200 - 205 lbs at my lowest after he was born. But, due to some other life circumstances and traumatic life experiences that happened to me in 2016, I have gained back over 100lbs and am now sitting at about 268lbs. I'm crushed. In May 2021 I decided to research revisions and found a surgeon in my area (St. Louis, MO) who specializes in revisions and I found out that I am a candidate for a revision to Duodenal Switch. After meeting with a dietician for 6 months, psychologist, primary care physician, etc. I'm finally having my revision next week... April 14, 2022!! I'm so scared and nervous this time around. I don't know what to do or where to go. I wasn't this nervous before my first surgery and I think it's because I didn't have as much to lose back then when I was 21. Now I have a 10 year old son who is everything to me and I'm terrified that if something goes wrong, he won't have a mom. Has anyone else in the forum gone through this and if so, can you please share your experience with me?- 8 replies

Newbe can anyone help
Kat817 replied to littlemissband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, welcome to LBT! First of all, I must warn you----if you get 10 responses, they are likely to all be different as to what each person can tolerate, or what they choose to eat! This is very individual in how it affects you. Along with that, some of the things you hear you will not be able to eat--will sound very drastic---but in the end your tastes end up changing and it is not any longer something you crave. That is a hard thing to describe, and I remember it was even harder to believe when I was pre op!! Can you eat anything after? Any trouble with lettuce, popcorn, or meat? As you know I am sure, you will be on a fairly strict post op diet for probably at least a couple of weeks. This is to give your stomach a chance to heal, and the band a chance to set into place properly. So I will answer this question, assuming that you meant after you heal and get moved on to a regular diet. Personally I can eat anything. Some I can eat much easier than others! I eat a lot of salad, without issue----I have to be more careful with spinach leaves, they are harder for me to chew well, and chewing is key with any of it. Especially meat---you MUST have small bites chewed well, so it will fit through the small opening after you acheive restriction through fills. I eat popcorn--I do best with it when it is very fresh, and crisp----if it is at all stale, it tends to mash as opposed to chew up. Pasta and bread are the hardest for me, I have to eat them slowly, and with other items, and I can only fit a small amount in, they seem to swell after you eat them. But as I said above---over time my desire for either of these things has seriously dwindled. They are no longer my favorites. Do you have a lot of excess skin after? I had excess skin. Not everywhere so badly. My butt and legs did ok. But even when I had lost most of my weight, I still had excess fat and skin in my belly, that just would not budge! I had a Tummy Tuck 2 months ago. I do have upper arms that I am not in love with--but I can deal with them!! I began the process in a size 22/24, and am now in an 8/10. Even excess skin, to me was better than having the skin full of fat underneath it!! Insurance covered my TT so I went for it! Would you do it all over again? In a heartbeat!!! My biggest wish is that it had been available to me years ago! I would not hesitate to take my own daughter or mother if they were to need WLS. It gave me my life back, and control back in that life. Do you regret it? I regret that I let myself get to the point I was of needing WLS. But I regret nothing about the surgery. Any additional info is greatly appreciated. Thank you The band will not lose the weight for you, but it will make it possible for you to lose it. It is something you will have to make a decision to work with it, and work with your Dr. to find a good level of restriction. But it allows you to live a totally normal life, and with the help of the band, you can learn to eat healthy, and discover normal portion size. There are times it is seriously hard work---but it is well worth it!!! Kat -
