  1. At 13 days post op and in the puréed phase I finally felt normal, I was able to get in a Protein shake for Breakfast, Greek yogurt for lunch, string cheese around three, and two bites of puréed chicken around 7. However, I woke up the next day and hurt with every sip I tried to take, this is so frustrating!!! I need to be back at work but do not have the energy and I know this is because I'm not getting enough food. Has this happened to anyone else? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. I had to do 6 consecutive months of doctor-supervised diet and exercise with my primary care doc, one nutritionist meeting, a psych eval, a meeting with a nurse practitioner from the surgeon's office, get a letter of recommendation from my PCP, write my own letter about why I felt like I needed the surgery, and meet with the surgeon before any of my info was submitted to insurance. Now that I've been approved by insurance and a date has been set, I'll have four hours of nutrition workshops and a support group meeting about a month before surgery. Two weeks before the surgery date I'll have bloodwork (including an arterial blood gas which I'm not looking forward to), chest x-ray, abdominal ultrasound, a physical and health history with an NP from the surgeon's office, and another meeting with the surgeon to go over the hospital stay and early recovery.
  3. I remember my first week after surgery...OMG, I had at least 15 BM's a day....it was horrible. But that was from the liquids and IVs, etc... I was so glad when it ended.. Now, I go pretty much the way I used to, but Im more prone to constipation, which was a huge difference.. before, i never got constipated.. So I have to really be careful..

How long were you off work?

Seems most people are back to work in 2 weeks. My job requires me to lift 50 lbs so I was off work for 2 months. Best Wishes. Tina

    NSV- Seatbelts

My seatbelt in my car finally has give! I have some wiggle room! I can reach forward to change the radio without it choking me!! I'm glad for this NSV I noticed, since I didn't move any pounds this last week.
  6. Its been 9 weeks since VSG and I've only lost 37 pounds since surgery. I really thought I would have lost more by now. I was sick for a week and had IV meds and fluids pumped into me, I also had to get steroids cuz my lungs were shutting down....maybe this slowed my weight loss? HW 260 SW 250 CW 213
  7. I am a little over a week out and I am a gulper!! I still get to gulp. It took me awhile to relax about it too. You just have to try and then make changes if you need to! Good luck!

How long were you off work?

My surgery was 2/7/13 and I'm taking 4-6 weeks off so I can get into the swing of my new eating habits before heading back into the office. I'm on short term disability until I get back.
  9. I had my sleeve done on 10/22/12 and have steadily lost weight daily. I know, I know.....I'm not supposed to weigh daily but I have. Anyway, this last week I went from 205.5 to 206.5 and not 207.5 in a matter of 2 days. I know that I am not eating into any caloric danger zones, but I am scared. Is this where my weight loss is going to end?? I know a few people who have had this surgery and they say that they've stayed the same weight but never gained weight. One of them was talking about eating a Carl's Jr burger on FB yesterday. (which I would NEVER do, if I was going to eat like that then I wouldn't have put myself through the surgery). Any help or advice would be so very helpful. I want to continue losing and do whatever it takes. I have a protien shake in the am and small lunch and dinner as that's all I can intake. Please help!!!
  10. Hi, Im experiencing similar problems at the moment. I had the entire fill taken out of the band while i was pregnant, then 2 weeks after i delivered, i suddenly got very tight restriction and have had the problem now for 10 months. The doctor says the band looks fine after he did a gastroscope and a barium swallow to see if he could find the cause. He has no idea why i cant eat anything solid anymore and says this is the first patient of his that this has happened too. I did have a infection from the catheter from the c section around the time I started to get restriction, so im not sure if thats the cause. I cant work out the other theory though of the band just getting too small because even though i put on 20kgs with the pregnancy i am still smaller than what i was when i first got banded so i cant see why i would need a larger band. I just dont know if this is the cause or a low grade infection from the catheter that is swelling my stomach because it has found a foreign object in my stomach... Im seriously considering getting the band removed all together as i feel i have no quality of life left from all the vomiting when i try and eat solids. Very depressed!
  11. Hi Everyone, I got my surgery date, January 8, 2009, for RNY. Now I am so nervous, with the holidays coming on, my 49th birthday next week, and then surgery next month. I can't hardly eat! I am losing weight quickly, which would normally be a good thing, but at this rate my BMI will be too low to qualify for surgery! Has anyone else been so nervous that they can't hardly eat??? I thought I would be having the "Last Supper Syndrome" by now and gobbling up food like crazy. Probably by the time I have to go on the restricted two weeks diet I will be hungry as a horse and going nutso every time I pass a fast food joint! LOL!!!! Lisa
  12. Protein shake for Breakfast. Salmon salad or poke or sashimi for lunch. Roast dark meat chicken with Brussels sprouts for dinner, as an example. I eat whatever my family is having without carbs. Emerald cocoa almonds 100-calorie snack pack for dessert. I take Tae Kwon Do four times a week and walk daily. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  13. My doc said 6 weeks before any bike riding, swimming, elliptical, etc. What does your doc say. Walking was all I could do, but because I have 2 bad knees, he let me go back to bike riding at 4 weeks. I am now at almost 4 months out and train 3 days a week, bike ride, walk in pool, and elliptical. Don't push it, time goes fast, you really want to heal before you do heavy exercise, walking is best if you can, my opinion, good luck.
  14. I actually experienced the opposite, I felt like my sense of smell deadened for about 3 weeks.
  15. I am 3 months post op today and down 72.6 pounds Only 140 something more to go! Feeling great!!! I am in a stall right now, started earlier this week but I am not stressing about it.. I know that they happen from time to time. It is only my 2nd one so far! This is such a great feeling!!
  16. What you are experiencing is normal. I once gained 7 lbs in between fills. You will be okay after you get some restriction in a few weeks. Typically 6 weeks after surgery you can get a fill. Good luck.
  17. i'm a pretty pragmatic person and didn't have any emotional aberrations after the procedure at all. (i was my normal self--as abnormal as i am :frown:.) are you normally "very emotional" with mood swings and such? or are you normally pretty "even-keeled"? you should expect the week or 2 following surgery to be like your normal self, except a little more so. i would tell you to think about all the different reasons you would do this in the first place. is this a commitment to a life-change for you or are you chasing the next "magic cure?" are you pretty good about following a regimen, but just need a little "can't cheat" helper? Because most anyone on these boards who's had their band for any length of time can tell you that it's hard to cheat the band, but it certainly is possible. if you're not ready to make the life-change, then you might expect to be disappointed or depressed with your results. if you're ready to make the commitment and you've chosen to get the band because you are ready to be paroled from the prision of your overweight, then you should expect and strive for a gentle and well-deserved sense of accomplishment after you get your band. rest, let yourself heal, follow the doctor's instructions faithfully and LOSE the baggage! i pray for your motivation and your commitment--
  18. I should be scheduled for pre-op this week, but yesterday I came down with a flu:frown: Does anyone know if they will postpone the pre-op for this reason? Thanks!
  19. personally, I take all three at once. But thats' me! You see it everywhere on this board--Everyone Is Different! Some people have problems with tiny pills, I can take anything (I've only had one fill-so maybe that will change) I had to skip my blood pressure pills for a few days right before surgery--check with your surgeon

    Why Am I SOOO Tired???

I would have to say that this is a rhetorical question, but I`ll ask nonetheless. I HOPE im just comming down w/a cold (1st time Ive EVER said that!),ive been tired the last 2 weeks almost non stop. My eyes get really red & puffy-like I just did drugs or something-thats actually how I feel!-minus the happy feelings.lol.... The dishes are mounting, the hamper is mounting...I could just care less-have absolutley NO energy. Well, thats enough complaining from me. One a good note.....ok...well,I guess I really dont have any good notes right now LOL American Idol RULES!!! ~ Heather :faint:
  21. U hear ya! Going through the same thing as you. Sleeved a week or 2 after you. I havent stalled yet (except for 10 days at the start) - down 65lbs and last week gained 3lbs and am stuck on that. Mid-cycle so period isn't coming up. So hard not being disheartened and thinking this is end of road huh! I have slacked on exercise and could do better with water as well.

    NSV- Seatbelts

I flew to Washington DC last week. I actually fit comfortably in an airplane seat and also had about 5 inches of seat belt still available. Last time I flew I sucked in my breath, squeezed my eyes and prayed I didn't need an extension. I couldn't even breathe. Not this time! It was wonderful and made for a much more enjoyable trip. I walked and walked and walked around DC and never even got winded. I even lost half a pound!
  23. And I have lost 30 pounds:) I have had no nausea at all, but I do one uncomfortable incision:( also my doctor has me in full liquids for 3 weeks to ensure my stomach heals and there are no complications. My biggest challenge is this mid morning slump I get? Afternoon I pick back up but between 11-2 I could sleep!?
  24. Today marks my 2 week post op and I'm noticing I have been having trouble with my vitamins. When I take all my vitamins, I'm full all day and very nauseous. So yesterday, I didn't take any vitamins and was able to eat and drink more and no nausea- so today just tried to take my first vitamin of the day, and I threw it up! Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else? I just seem to feel so much better without them. And yes, I have tried taking them at night, I even tried taking a different vitamin every hour, to no avail.

    Question on Timing

I am self pay and had my first appt with my surgeon the third week of April. I am scheduled for surgery June 9th. I would have gone quicker but I had some timing issues with scheduling preop stuff because of my work schedule.
