I ran and completed my first 5 k in over 7 years! I ran the Revlon Run/Walk and completed the 5 k in 38 minutes! It was a great experience and I did a bit of reflection while crossing the finish line!

It was one of the best decision I have ever made in my life. It’s not the number on the scale that drives me anymore but more the NSV. I can play with my kids and be active with them, I can sit on an airplane without a seatbelt extender, I can sit in a restaurant booth, I have energy for days, and I am able to keep up in my kickboxing class. Shopping isn’t a chore anymore and I don’t alienate myself by staying home anymore. I go out and experience life! This being said, I only had my gastric bypass on May 28th of this year and so far I have lost 54lbs since surgery and 85lbs since my highest weight in November. I had serious nerves leading up to the surgery and for a few weeks after but trust me, my life is so much better now. Good luck!

I know the common advice they give you is to wait until after you bottomed out before buying clothes. But that is not always true. As I was losing weight, I would buy something that was so tight that if I took a deep breath, it would break apart at the seams. But a week later, it would fit like a glove. It was a great motivator. Ahhhhhh, what do they call it? NSV (non scale victory).

Had some steak on Sunday...
Swiftflow replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On a positive note, our team just won 1st place at our steak cook-off this weekend! I can eat around 3-4 oz of the tender rib eye which is nice. A couple of NSV's cames out of this first steak cook-off post surgery. 1. I was able to last all day without massively sore feet and back. 2. I had more energy through the day in spite of the blistering heat. 3. And my 2x team shirt now fit me instead of having to use my own "iron-on" shirt version that was 3x like I did last year. -
Wow! Great NSV! We want to see pics of the $168.00 jeans!

That sounds so much fun!!! Congrats. I can't wait to be there! Would somebody please tell me what NSV means????
-
What does NSV mean? I thought I knew, but when I saw how it was used in the sentence, I know I don't. Thanks! Congrats on the jeans! I am just excited my ring fell off yesterday after 5 days post op! lol I love hearing people say they love their sleeve. I am in the "what have I done to myself" stage!

Yes, you did! Amazing NSV!!

That tape is making a difference. Thanks to CBT again for the info. Today's NSV: I painted my toe nails!! When I was obese, I could reach then but my pannus made doing my own pedicures a chore. When I lost the weight, reaching my toes comfortably was difficult.. I could reach them but the pannus was in the way. Today I painted my toenails without lifting my stomach up. Without reaching around. I feel whole again

I have the band, but WLS is WLS. I didn't find this site until after the surgery. My lung doctor told me I was getting the band. I never asked questions and never looked into anything other than the meetings at the hospital. Maybe sometimes not knowing is better? Just think of all the wonderful things that happens with the surgery: fitting into a restaurant booth, not buying clothes in the 'Plus' department, crossing your legs (I am right now), fitting into seats at a concert or sports arena. These are all NSV!!! to look forward to. NSV=non scale victory. Good luck and happy holidays. Arlene -

Hello June 05 bandsters...Can you believe it's been a year? How has your year been? Mine has been successful still working on getting to goal but I am alot closer then I was a year ago. I have so many NSV's and I love my life now so much. I have been giving the chance to actually work for my surgeon now and it's wonderful. The only bad thing that has happened this year is my port flipped in March but it's ok that was easy to get fixed. Hope you all have had a great year and are as happy with your desicion as I have been with mine.

That is such a cool NSV!!!!!!!!!! I was waiting for some other outcome. You had me going there for a minute. That is so neat.
-
Hang in there and and watch for NSV's. When you are being 'good' and the scale isn't showing it , just be patient. Add in exercise to speed things up. Be sure to keep yourself hydrated and believe it will work. Good luck!

Wednesday 2Nd Is My Day...
JosieK replied to banded-Moroccan's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Best of Luck..... the one thing i learned in my journey is....we have to work with the band to lose weight. The band itself will not make us lose the weight. I had the same concerns before I was banded and decided to follow the people that went ahead of me that were working a healthy program. On the other side there were some that did not lose weight and continually talked about dairy queen, margarita's, etc. Of course i had ups and downs... but i keep getting up and brushing myself off and get back on track. Some things that helped me... 1. journal what i was eating. too many times i was under estimating what i was putting in my mouth. also needed to make sure i was eating enough Protein. many great sites available. i used netdiary.com. but others are: fitday.com, (cant think of the other one i used) 2. stopped weighing myself daily as i would react poorly to whatever number came up. i weighed 1X a month and measured myself 1X a month. 3. exercised. weights and aerobics 4. used lapbandtalk.com for information. i didnt get into negative conversations as sometimes happens on this site. everyone has a right to their opinions. i can only share my experience and follow others that make sense to me. 5. did writings in a journals on feelngs, NSV's etc. best feeling was when i fit in an airline seat without an extra belt. or when i first saw collar bones. 6. drink lots of Water. at least 1 gallon a day. someone once said....nothing tastes as good as thin feels.... anyway wishing you all the best.... and if any help needed...please dont hesitate to ask. josie
