  1. I'm not sure if it's normal, but every time I drink anything even water I get a pain in my stomach. I'm one week a 2 days post op. Is any one experiencing this?
  2. Introversion

    Calorie Question

I weigh approximately 118 pounds and maintain my weight on 1900 to 2100 calories per day. Who in their right might would want to restrict to the 800-1000 range for maintenance? As the previous poster mentioned, those who restrict for too long destroy their metabolisms. The term is called metabolic derangement. At 3 to 4 months out I was eating about 1000 calories daily. By 6 months I had bumped it up to 1200, and by 9 months I was eating about 1400 to 1500 calories. By 12 months out I was up to 1700, and by 18 months I got up to 1800 to 2000. I am so glad I gradually raised my caloric intake in increments because it kept my metabolic rate in high gear. I am figuratively dancing on a cloud about being able to maintain on 2000+ calories a day.

    Eating nuts

My paper said 3-6 months or until the doctor clears you.
  4. I have a VG band put in July '06. I had two fills in TJ, but still had no restriction. Went to a fill Dr. in Ohio in October, who filled me to 6.2 cc. I was a little tight, but waited until beginning of Jan. 07 to have .5cc taken out. I was having pain and back aches went I ate solid foods. Three weeks later, I had another .5cc taken out (5.2cc fill now). It has been exactly one week now, and I've been taking Prilosec OTC and Mylanta, but still cannot eat any solid foods without getting a sour stomach, and having nausea all the time practically. I'm so worried, and I don't know if this is a sign of slippage. The doctor said that if I couldn't had trouble after 3 weeks, to come back for an upper GI (I think that's the test)...but I"m miserable...then, again, could I just have the flu?? I've lost 60lbs...so, that's a good thing!! Please, someone help me... Jodie

  6. Carbgrl, I'm glad you asked that question! I am also 3 weeks post op and feel that I am 'able' to eat normally. Granted, I do feel a bit fuller a little bit quicker...I too have about 3 weeks before my first fill...and fear that I could get carried away. I lost 8 pounds the first week, and have maintained that now for 2 weeks. Getting eager to see the weigh start coming off. I look forward to anyone's feedback.

    Weird feeling in esophagus?

It's probably just swelling. It takes several weeks for all the swelling to go down. Hang in there!
  8. I'm a little over 6 weeks post op and have been eating soft solids for 3 weeks per Doc instruction. Things have been going just fine, no problems eating ( when i remember to eat slow enough ). The past week however, things have not been sitting well. I was nauseous for several days and didn't want to eat a thing, but forced myself to eat small amounts. Solid foods are not sitting well with me at all. I have been under a great deal of stress the past week and was wondering if it could be stress related? I've decided to go back to liquids and soups for a little while until my stomach feels better as those things seem to sit just fine. Has anyone else had something similar happen?

Nope I'm down the I 90 in buffalo. 2 weeks out. Happy so far.

    Strict doctor's orders

The only pre-op diet I was required to do was one week of Carnation Instant Breakfast and water. I lost 10 lbs. in one week doing that, and I'm sure glad it wasn't for longer than that. I think most dr's. have their own format. I've heard of people with longer diets; different diets; and absolutely no diets. It depends on where you are having your surgery done and the dr. specifically. Hope this helps. I could not have done what you are doing for any amount of money. It seems incredibly strict.
  11. Constance

    Strict doctor's orders

Yeah, not be totally contrarian here, but what is the point of being exessively strict? We have hundreds of bandsters here who had the standard 4 week transition; clear, full, mushy, and then real food. I think we can safely say the overwhelming majority of those bandsters have had no problems. Is the strict clear liquid diet just to speed weight loss? It seems like it negates the whole point of having safe, slow weight loss with the band. Not to mention making you INSANE with thoughts of food! Ok, end of rant. Carry on.
  12. I volunteer in the Nutrition and Diabetes Center of my local hospital and I get to see all types coming in. Really keeps me in the know. I'll be meeting with my NUT one-on-one next week for some meaningful assistance with meal planning. I've gotten such a range of info from my surgical practice that I can't keep it straight!
  13. I noticed that when I'm stressed or even nervous I'm not able to eat much at all without it being uncomfortable it's like my stomach just clenches up. So if you are having weeks of stress, I can see it. But I think if it continues it would be a good thing to bring up with the doctor just to make sure it's not a stricture or anything like that.

Support please - surgery on January 11th

Same as the above posters, surgery was easy. The pain was nothing - the stomach pain felt like I had done sit ups the day before and the incisions felt like a paper cut. The gas pain is annoying more then anything. I came off all pain killers with in a couple of hours as I didn’t want to be hooked up to the machines and just wanted to walk around. I was tired for about a week. Best wishes for your surgery.

    Hair today Hair tomarrow

hair is going to fall out. No matter what you do or do not do, it's going to happen. You can do things to help with regrowth and decrease breakage, but nothing is going to save the hair. I've posted these links below countless times on here, and it's documented that surgery, drastic diet change, and general anesthesia can cause hair loss after major surgery. I even lost hair after my gallbladder was removed in February. The good news is that the hair grows back. Telogen Effluvium: eMedicine Dermatology Telogen Effluvium Hair Loss Nothing is going to stop it from happening. It might not be as severe as others, it may last longer than the normal 3 months, it may not last that long, but it's pretty inevitable.
  16. For starters, I would address this with your doctor ASAP. You should not be throwing up almost everything you eat on a daily basis. I can understand occassionally, which would usually point to not chewing enough, taking too large of bites or eating too quickly. Don't worry about the scale. If you have read threads from other people posting about slow loss or stalls, the #1 advice is to throw away the scale. IMO, for the first 2 months, the scale is meaningless. Your body is going through a major change and trying to make adjustments. It is going to retain fluids and release them, go into starvation mode ... basically, you have thrown it a HUGE curve-ball. It is going to take some time to adjust, so put the scale away and keep believing in yourself and the program. It will happen. Just keep doing what you are doing. Down deep in your head, you have to know that if you consume 800 calories a day yet burn 2,000 calories a day, eventually, you will lose fat. Just know that you will also lose muscle, so you have to keep with your program at the gym and try to get in your Protein. This will work. Don't give up.

    3 days post-op

Today, I feel really good. yesterday was a bit of struggle with the gas, but lots of walking and warm broth soup did the job!...I have no appetitite and worried I won'te be able to take in enough protein, just don't have the appetite to drink thick drinks..I have been drinking water even added Kellogs protein water mix to help...well, it has 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber...therefore causing my first BM only 3 days post op...not sure if that is bad or good...i hope my appetitite increases some to want to drink protein shakes...its not that i can't tolerate them, i goes down easily!...i just keep on pushing along!!!
  18. I was banded Aug. 4 with the Realize Band. I have lost just over 40 pounds and have not had a fill. As long as my progress is one pound per week, my doc says no need for a fill. And, that's fine with me! Forty pounds may not sound like a lot to most folks but it is MAJOR for me. I have never lost that much without a relapse. I have VERY good restriction and my eating and exercise habitats have vastly changed for the good.

    Is this normal?

Very normal.... early out you are very swollen from surgery.... so you can't eat much, but it increases a little each week. For me i was able to finish half from week 3-5 & whole egg at around week 6.... Even now, i am starting week 9, i can't do more than a whole egg regardless of how it is prepared.

    Disney lost...I WON!!

Ok you did way better than I did. I also just got back from Disney and ate like a normal person. I cannot say that I overate but I did not watch what I ate. We had 5 days there and I believe it when you say you walked 9.5 miles in 3 days. I did not however gain anyweight so the walking must have helped. Good job to you!! I wish I would have had more self control.

    Old Gall Bladder scar...problems?

my scars werent any where near each other really (see below). i actually asked my surgeon to do it in the same scars and he said it was easier to do them elsewhere to get closer to the gallbladder. I also had a 2nd band surgery to change to the larger band 3 days after my first in the same incisions.. so i was quite sore from that but i believe thats just cuz it was so soon after. i wouldnt worry but thats just me =0)
