    Not yet feeling great

I feel your frustrations. But I figure that I've decided to make this enormous change in my life and part of it entails this month of less then ideal food consumption. I'm shooting for May 2nd (four week mark) to have lost a tremendous amount of weight to really jump start my journey to being "normal-sized." Hang in there and know that great changes await ya. --MG

100 lbs gone in 12 months

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is a LOT of weight lost for one year--WOOT WOOT!!! I too work with my band in my own way. I follow the basic rules..getting my Protein in is #1 a close second is exercise! I cannot believe how strong I am..unreal! Other than that, I don't follow any rules. I eat healthy moderate portions, make good food choices and move as much as possible. I too cannot eat a hamburger, but will one day dammit..lol I am happy that I can occasionally eat pizza and bread with no issues..just have to know what mood my band is in for the day. I have lost nowhere near 100lbs and have been banded 4 months longer than you. Just goes to show..everyone is different. I'm thrilled with my weight loss and will be at my ultimate goal by 2012. I have 85lbs to lose total, so I will never see 100lbs lost..I'm glad you did though..AWESOME!
  4. lol yeah @kcw...the gummies are on my "approved" vitamin list that i got at my weight center. they're Flinstone Complete.

    Back to normal life?

You can expect every aspect of your life to change. You will find a new normal. The old normal wasn't working so well, was it? Your new life will be so much better. Pre op is not easy, but it is only a small blip on the radar. Post op is not easy, but again, a small blip in the journey that will be the rest of your life. Preop is hard, also, because of the unknown. It is normal to be scared and anxious, but all of us on this side can tell you to jump into the pool - the water is fine and you won't drown. This is a good support group that will help you through. Highly advise you to get on YouTube and start watching everything that has to do with weight loss surgery. You will get a ton of information that will make you better educated and realistic about what to expect in each step. Personally, I really liked Dr. Matthew Weiner. He does a good job of explaining the procedures, the diet stages (although it may differ from your own surgeon's), the recovery, different challenges in the process, and how to maintain.

    Help !

There's really nothing you can do but put on the big girl panties and keep rolling with it. You've just got to push through. It TOTALLY sucks, usually the second week is less hellish than the first, but as miserable as it is, know it's all for an amazing cause!!! It's worth it!!!! Just keep on, keeping on, try not to bite anyone's head off and it'll be here before ya know it!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198

  8. My weight does the same thing after a fill...rapid loss then it tapers down then nothing then maybe 1 or 2 a week...it's been a while since my last unfill in Dec and I think i need another fill next month is possible we'll see...
  9. I'm only 5 days out but I find it no problem at all to get in 600 calories and I could do more but I have to stop in the interest if losing weight. Is this normal so soon after surgery? Most immediate postoperative patients here I see are struggling to eat more than a few hundred calories a day. I'm worried I'm going to stop losing!

    Take Note

I honestly don't notice other people's weightloss (or weight gain) immediately. Especially people I see daily. It usually takes someone pointing it out or a certain outfit for me to do a double take. Its not that I don't care, I just don't identify them by their weight. It's hard to explain.... Weight is such a touchy subject that some people are afraid to bring it up first.

    New & Need Friends

Hi Madam, Welcome to the board! This is such a great site isn't it? I have not been banded yet, but am in the process. Madam, if this is what you want, go for it. The process takes a while from your first visit with the Weight Loss Ctr., so you absolutely will not be rushed into anything. From what I have read on the board and from my experience with my Weight Management Clinic they make sure you are really, really informed. They will no push you, that is your decision to make. I initially went to my first meeting last August and it actually seems like yesterday. I let about 5 months go by, holidays, etc. Now I wish I had taken the step sooner. Good luck with your decision! This site actually really, really helped me decide this was the right decision for me and I can't wait to get this "lap dance" going!

    New & Need Friends

Madam I feel like you and I are kind of in the same boat. I said when I turned 29 that If I hadn't lost the weight by the time I was 30, I was having the procedure. I turned 30 on Jan 31 and had my band done Friday Feb 16th. It is a tumultous process. The liquid diet is hell. You get depressed, you get angry, you give up things that you don't really want to (like beer and soda) but the bottom line is I want to feel good and look good more than I want to drink a Dr. Pepper. My eating habits were terrible and this whole process has made me take a good hard long look at myself. This is also going to help my family, I have a son that is overweight and now there is a whole new "food" perspective in my house. I was having asthma and problems so now I can look forward to a new me. Good luck in your decision!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes, its nice to learn we are simliar in alot of ways. Tracy i was a little worried when you mentioned the evidence of my past weight loss attempts. I did find an old WW weigh in card from 2002 but it only shows 2 months worth of weigh ins. I through alot of that stuff away because it reminded me of my failed attempts. I was going to the Y that same year, I wonder how long they keep contracts on file for. Atkins I did on my own so I dont have proof of that. I belong to a gym now but my husband and I only just signed up in January.

    Pre op diet slips

Unless that breaded mushroom was on your surgeon's pre-op, then you did slip. Yes, it was minor, but don't make excuses that it's okay because you got sick. The pre-op can be mentally rough and it sounds like you're looking for the group to say it's okay so you can eat a hot dog. No one can stop you from eating the hot dog but you. Eating the hot dog may or may not get your surgery canceled. So is the hot dog THAT important to you that you're willing to risk losing a surgery that could potentially save your life? And so you eat the hot dog and it doesn't cancel your surgery. So will eating a slice of cake be okay a few days post-op? Or maybe a slice of pizza two weeks post-op? You're giving in to your head hunger. Not an easy battle to win! I know the pre-op is tough, but the pre-op is crucial for shrinking your liver, and it's also a jump-start to your weight loss and to a healthier lifestyle that you will need to maintain post-op and for the rest of your life. Hang in there and don't give in to the cravings. You'll get through this and be on a great start to your new sleeved life!
  18. Elfiepoo said it! A wise and well advised response. But what shocked me most was that you said that your doctor was disappointed in you. My heart just broke when I read that. Here's what I pick up from your post. Something in your heart/mind has not opened up and is not 'allowing' yourself to succede at weight loss. In the Eastern philosophies they would say that there is a blockage in your heart chakra and you have yet to allow yourself the happiness, success & love you deserve. You are on the right path because you admittedly know what you are doing wrong. A good place to start, in my opinion. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Most all of us have done that. So don't feel alone in that one. Maybe some meditation on exactly why you are doing things that are contradictory to the banding process will help. If that doesn't work, as suggested by another poster, a good therapist might be able to help you get to the bottom of it. The band can be tricky. It works extremely well for some and not so much for others. But the truth is, it's a tool, and a tool only. The power to overcome anything, even something as addictive as food and drink, comes from within. Personally, I have had to use several mantras.... I love myself I forgive myself I deserve to be happy I deserve to be healthy I take full responsibility for my actions past and present From this day forward I will allow nothing, including & especially myself, to limit my success I give myself permission to be happy! Silly, I know ,but I say those things & just close my eyes & imagine little roadblocks in front of me or hurdles and as I say those words I just jump right over them, kick them down, or whatever image works for me at the time and keep moving right on down the road I visualize in my head. When I open my eyes I feel better. Tonight you will most definately be in my prayers. When your heart is ready I am sure you will see physical & emotional progress. Big hugs and lots of love to you.
  19. I feel your pain on the wine thing. I am a home brewer (beer). My friends, my social life, everything has been brewing and beer. Beer club meetings where we all share our latest creations, brew fests, micro breweries, this was what I did when I took a night off from being a mom. The day I found out I was approved was a Friday. We got a sitter, and all my friends and I went to a beer bar where I said goodbye to all my favorites ... I explained to my Maharajah IPA(my favorite beer) it was not him, it was me ... and had one last glass. And I have not had a beer since. HARD to do. Unfortunately, I have had to separate from spending time with most of my beer buddies as that is just what we did together. Now I work out at least 1/2 an hour every day ... usually more, but that is my minimum. It keeps me motivated to stay away from the no no foods when I just burned off calories. I do not enjoy working out. I do not enjoy giving up beer. I miss laughing with my friends while tasting an awesome new release beer. On the flip side ... I have lost 40 lbs in less than 3 months!!! My first fill was 10 days ago, I had no restriction before, and almost none now. I eat three times a day. 4 oz of Protein, 1/2 - 3/4 cups of veggies with every meal. I even puree spinach, bell pepper, and fresh basil into my eggs before I scramble them in the morning so it will make a bigger portion until my fill. For me, this was a life changing decision and I am in 100%. The thing that helps me stay on track with not drinking alcohol or eating the wrong foods is journaling. I journal on line, enter every bite of food i eat. I have been at 800 calories a day since two weeks prior to surgery. 800 is ot a lot of food (tons of veggies help). I'll be damned if I'm going to have a couple of drinks and blow a third of my calories for the day doing so. Butter, yea friggen right! I would NEVER waste those calories on a full fat condiment either. Start journaling, every bite. It is totally what keeps me on track. If it's truly what you want, to lose the weight, make the decision. Best of luck!

  21. Well today is my 2 year anniversary and I am so happy I did this!! It has been such a wonderful experience and I keep learning everyday. All dreams have been possible and many have been achieved. My newest is to become a triathlete in October! I am so excited for the challenge. If you are struggling or brand new - this is worth it and you can do it!!! I started at 256 in a size 22. I currently weight 135 and a size 2.
  22. I haven't had surgery yet, but it is all I think about!! I find myself always wondering what changes (besides weight) will happen post op. I find that I am ALWAYS hot and sweaty (especially in the face)...I am hoping with the weightloss, sweatloss will come hand in hand. Pleeeeeaaasssee someone say yes! Lol

    Anthem Question

pooh, I used your idea and padded my pants with some weight since I had to take my shoes off and low and behold I have a BMI of 41. We are now resubmitting. I cant believe I didnt think of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you are a genius.
  24. I was banded on January of 2010 and at the beginning I felt like you did. Now I am about 12-15 lbs from my goal of 145 lbs. It does take hard work I must say. But I've realized that the band is only a tool that you use to loose weight. I not a miracle surgery. You still have to work hard....meaning eat healthy and excercise. Good luck, don't get fustrated at the end you will see results.
  25. Good for you! It is so nice to not have obese on the chart at the doctors office now! My bum, well the lack thereof, was the first thing I really noticed. I am kind of finding it hard to find pants that fit right now because my bum has lost quicker than my tum! It is really interesting because I have always lost weight in previous diets in my stomach and breasts first, this time has been my arms and butt. Are you noticing that you are losing differently than you previous attempts?
