    Weight loss stall

This is your first stall, possibly first of many. No worries. I found drinking my protein helps while also adding to my hydration needs (I like Premier shakes). My struggle still (8 months out) is staying hydrated which is key to weight loss and good health. Keep going! Sent from my SM-N970F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight loss stall

Thank you for your advice for Cajunincheesetown. It has taught me a thing or two. I certainly didn't know about the daily protein requirements correlating to body weight. I will remember that when I am on the other side which will be next Monday!

    Gastric Sleeve

Thank you for sharing your story but as my VSG doesn't take place until 31st May I can't offer you any personal insight on bowel habits or pains in the chest. From what I have read, constipation can be VERY common due to the fact that the consumption of food is drastically reduced. Could the pains in your chest be reflux or even a feeling of fullness that is causing some pain? I'm sure that other more seasoned sleavers will have more ideas for you. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling hungry as this is something I am seriously hoping goes away or largely diminshes, for me. I would love to know why you think your weight has increased so quickly as this has happened to me too. For me, I feel it is to do with hormones (menopause) as I am 56. Keep up the positive attitude!
  4. Hi, I have cvs, have had it around 5 years now. I just found out from my friend that our insurance might cover weight loss surgery for me. I started gaining weight before I got cvs, but now its been more the last couple of years. I sometimes blame medication, but I started gaining before I started taking preventative medication for cvs. I have episodes way less because of medication, and I added the mito cocktail to my regimen(vitamins) and now even less episodes. Im afraid to change anything that might make me sick again. I haven't spoken to a dr yet, bit just doing research on it. I also noticed in some of my cvs support groups that there are a few who've had weight loss surgery and are way worse, or they didn't have cvs until after surgery. Please any info or insight would be appreciated.
  5. So 5/18/21 was my gastric sleeve surgery. Just 6 years ago I was at my goal weight of 141. In 6 year I reached 267. The biggest I’ve ever been. in the past was 217, (31 years ago after the birth of my second daughter) I do believe I know the reason for so much weight gain in six years. If anyone is interested I’ll share later to compare stories. Anyway the first couple of days weren’t bad. I felt more pain then anything. But for three days now I’ve been hungry but have no intentions of not eating right. For now I’ve learned to stay out of the kitchen and my daughter is giving great support and encouragement. If anyone could share with me about bowel habits and changes, colors, pain in the middle chest, or any other types of changes I’d appreciate it.

    Weight loss stall

Stalls are very common along the way. They’re just your body playing catch up. They can last 1 to 3 weeks but you will start to lose again. Yes, definitely increase your protein intake. I was told 60g too though some are told 70. I still aim to eat 60g at two years out. (Recommended daily intake for an adult is .8g protein per kg of weight in the US. It’s 1g per kg in Australia.)
  8. Have you had the revision? If so, what do you think so far? I'm in the same boat you were. Great weight loss, surgery was in 2010, but the GERD has gotten progressively worse. Non-cardiac chest pain, trouble swallowing sometimes, I'm on a prescription PPI and it was helping but I'm back to eating Tums again. When I finally decided to see a doctor I was eating 8 -10 Tums every day. I had no idea it was a bad thing until I read it somewhere!!! I suspect the appointment with the bariatric surgeon next month will give me an idea of what the solution is. I was self pay when I had sleeve surgery. I hope Anthem BCBS will approve and cover whatever he thinks I should do.

    Calorie & carb intake?

Your weight loss does start to slow as you get closer to your goal. Many of us find the last pound or two the hardest & slowest to lose - can take weeks. It’s because your caloric intake is getting closer to what your body needs to burn to function so closer to your maintenance point. I was never given calorie goals or told how many carbs I should have either. I was told portion sizes, to avoid carbs where possible & definitely no high processed carbs. Besides fruit & vegetables my carbs from less obvious sources like yoghurt or cheese, etc. The only obvious source of carbs were rolled oats (one serve lasted me 2 or 3 days so only about 10g each time I ate them). If you’re worried, ask your dietician/nutritionalist to review your diet.

    Calorie & carb intake?

I would ask your nutritionist. At 4 months out my nutritionist had me on a 600-800 calorie and 60-80 carb diet plan. But every person is different and so is their plan. Also, my weight loss slowed after 3 months. The first three months I lost fast. Then the following three months I averaged 8 pounds a month. The next 5 months following that I averaged 5 pounds a month. My average lately is about 3 pounds a month. I'm 16 months out now so my diet plan is 900-1200 calories and 80-150 carbs per day (I try to keep my carb intake around 90 and my calories no higher than 1000 (though some days it HAS gone close to 1200). Also, my daily sodium allowance is 1200mg, but I try and get under 900mg because I retain water like CRAZY!

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

Once your weight settles things may shift and even out (a little bit) so don’t count anything out yet ❤️
  12. 4 months post op as of May 20th. I have spoke with my doctor on calorie intake, but I’m curious what others are/where consuming at this time. Especially carbs, my doctor doesn’t like to give me a particular amounts because she says it depends are where they are coming from. For example she says I shouldn’t be too focused on the carbs that come from fruit which I understand but would still like to know a general amount. I also feel like my weight loss is starting to slow down. Lol I’m constantly stressing myself out about all of this.

    7 days out and struggling

I'm so sorry your frustrated. You are only a week out from major surgery, Our bodies don't react predictably from that a lot of the time. Just be patient and follow your plan and the weight will come off. In terms of your diet, of course listen to your team. I can tell you that early out I was "eating" only 1-2 oz very soft foods (like greek yogurt) and stuffed from that very small amount and waited 30-60 minutes after to drink fluids. Outside of those windows, I really, really focused on fluids. Small sips every couple of minutes as it was the only way to drink enough. It took a lot of effort to get them in until I could slowly drink more at one time.
  14. When I saw the original post I actually got excited. I know that sounds strange but I had found a lot of other people who had been put on diets before adolescence. (A bit of background, I’m a trans guy so I was raised female, with all the body image baggage that comes with that gender. Though I am very much aware that boys get body image pressure too, I understand by personal experience what it’s like growing up as a girl in our society.) I was 5 years old for my first diet. My mom got the diet from my pediatrician! I wasn’t obese. I was a little chubby but active and healthy. I look at pictures of me then and I look like a normal kid with a face full of freckles and round, pink cheeks. My mom had this terrible fear of me not being popular or well-liked. I am naturally an extreme introvert and, honestly, more than a little weird. I couldn’t care less about being popular. I was perfectly happy to be left mostly alone. From kindergarten on I was put on diet after diet. I would yo-yo up and down the scale, always becoming more and more overweight with each diet. I developed eating disorders (surprise) that eventually just landed me with binge eating disorder by my early 20’s. I had a few years of homelessness and food insecurity in my 20’s that just made my emotional attachment to food more intense. By my 30’s I was solidly obese. By my early 40’s I had hit a top weight of 408lb at a height of 5’ 4.5”. So, now at 46, I am dangerously morbidly obese. I look back to that chubby little 5 year old and can’t help but wonder, if they had just left me alone would I have still ended up obese? Well, I’m currently down to 340lb and my gastric bypass is scheduled for July 9th. What happened to me in as a child was wrong but there is nothing I can do about it now. I have to focus on my future. A future that, with a lot of hard work and some luck, will be healthier than my past. Have a great week everyone!

    7 days out and struggling

you're down to your original surgery weight because, like most of us, you probably "gained" weight while in the hospital because of all the IV fluids. It can take up to a week for them to work their way out of your system. I've heard of people "gaining" as much as 10 lbs while in the hospital! fluids go through our stomachs really fast since our pyloric valves were bypassed, so I'd be very surprised if you could stretch your stomach from fluids. Maybe you could if you REALLY slammed them, but 40-50 oz over the course of the day isn't "really slamming" them. I've never heard of anyone doing that from drinking fluids, and we were never warned we could stretch our stomachs from that. So...I'm not sure what to say...

What is your 1st major milestone?

Onederland was my first milestone. 180 which is the weight I can remember that I was when I did bowling league and other social things and enjoyed them is next. I hope to get to 160 which will be a normal BMI for me but I would be thrilled with 180 if I can stay there.

    Weight loss stall

    1) unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", your weight loss so far is very normal. Most of us lose 15-25 lbs in the first month after surgery. Yes - you will find people who lose more or less than that, but they're the exception. You're in that range, so you're perfectly normal! 2) you're in the infamous "three-week stall". Almost all of us go through that. It's not ALWAYS the third week, but it is for most (hence the name) - but it can really happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale if you need to. It'll last 1-3 weeks, and then you'll be on your way again. If you want to read more about it, do a search on this site for the three week stall. You will find about 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding...). It literally does happen to almost everyone. No changes necessary - just stick to your program and wait it out. It WILL break. oh - just re-read your post. Thirty grams of protein is too low. Most surgeons recommend at least 60. So THAT is a change you should make. Otherwise, you're good. Just hang tight!

Oh, Just Another Plastics Story pt 2

Plastics update! It’s been so long I forgot about these threads Mood: Happy Current weight:154 (no measurements as I can’t find my tape measure) I’m still very happy with my outcomes but obviously I see little things I want fixed. I would love more fat grafting to my behind and some scar revisions as most of my scars became hypertrophic (I knew the risk and it was still worth it - I just need to have them revised at some point) I think that happens to many people post plastics. Plastics is probably just the next rabbit hole. videos of this years swim suit and showing scars (WLS and plastics) FullSizeRender.mov FullSizeRender.mov

    Weight loss stall

Sounds like you need more protein (at least 60 g per day) and more water/liquid (at least 64 oz per day). If you can, talk to your nutritionist to come up with good parameters that are personalized to suit you. Also, 22 pounds is pretty good weight loss so far, so do not stress too much about that. Focus on nutrition and following your surgeon’s plan/guidelines. Good luck! 😊

    Weight loss stall

I have only lost 22 lbs, since surgery on 4/13/21 the past 10 days have been no weight loss. Can eat more things now, but wondering if I need to go back to 90 grams of protein per day- right now I’m at 30-60 and eat a small meal at night. Haven’t had sugar in a long time. Haven’t been drinking much water either. Any thoughts out there?
  22. Tomorrow is my official week since having gastric bypass and I’m struggling. I’m only down to my ore surgery weight and I don’t understand why. I also have right side pain that makes it hard to do things. I was doing great on just liquids and getting about 40-50 ounces a day and my surgical nurse called and was not happy I was getting that much and told me I might stretch my pouch out. She also told me I needed to add in the yogurts and creamed soups so I get 24-30 ounces of full and then 24-30 ounces of clear. I started adding in more full items and I can barely get any ounces of either now because I feel so full/sick. Is this common? Am I doing something wrong?

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I’m so nervous about calories at this point. My dr told me to go to 800 calories but I feel like it’s too much and might stall my weight loss? Am I being neurotic about this? So many people are doing 600-650 calories a day, even a year after surgery. (My surgery 4/21, HW: 206, CW 180.6)

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I just had my 5 week check up and dr told me that with the rapid weight loss it makes your body tired, it's fighting it. Other than that all is good with me 😁

What is your 1st major milestone?

Love the idea! My milestones were/are: 1. Being under 40 BMI -done 2. Losing 100 lbs- done 3. Being “overweight” (just reached this!) 4. Unsubscribing from Torrid and Lane Bryant emails- done 5. Fitting in my wedding rings- done 6. Finishing a couch to 5k app- just 1.5 weeks away! 7. Losing 150 lbs- I’m getting closer! 8. Hitting a normal weight - still a little way off from this but still working toward it I never planned for some milestones that were huge for me like fitting in the conference room chairs at work, being able to cross my legs, buckling my seatbelt without struggle, etc. Oh, but a huge milestone I forgot- onederland! And I’m 6.2 lbs from it, but who’s counting right?
