    Feet shrunk!

My feet have always been wide, even when I was a normal sized kid. Before I got really fat I wore an 8.5 wide, but often had to buy 9 or even 10 if I couldn't find wide width. My foot wasn't longer, but the bigger shoe accommodated for the width. At my highest weight I wore a 10W and sometimes and 11. I'm still losing weight, but I'm back down to and 8.5 or 9 now that I've lost 150. My already wide feet got wider when I was bigger and now they're just their normal wide width. No more boobs

I'm 49, soon to be 50. When I was 31 I had a breast reduction because I was HUGE. I was a DD after the reduction, but then when I had my son at 39, they grew back, and now I wear a 40H. I was a 48H prior to wls. I never have lost much weight in my breasts now or in the past. Because of the reduction, which included a lift, my nipples are where they should be, but since I've lost weight, my boobs do feel and look flabbier. Also, most of the tissue is at the side if that makes any sense and I have a lot under my arms. Breast surgery will be my last priority, because my stomach and legs bother me more, but I would consider it if they look too bad. A good bra helps! 3. Hello...I use saw your note on here, its old but thought, what the heck going to write anyhow. Your story is so much the same as mine. I started off with the Lapland, quite some time ago, lost some, not a huge amt. It was such a hard live with, couldn't seem to get the right fill, I spent alot of time throwing up.....had that taken out,got the sleeve, lost a little not a huge about, think I got down to maybe 223, then gained wt. Back..so tried to be real good for awhile My dr. Says the only thing now is the Loop Duodenal Switch...I did all the nutrition appt.s, the trainer, the psyche evaluation, which I ended up paying out of pocket, then I've been waiting and waiting and noone called, then they called the other day and say its been so long (their fault not mine, they had everything ) i wasn't happy but went, so I'm lingering at 260 myself. Now according to her they are suppose to submit it to my insurance and then will set up appt. to make a date. They better I called iurance an it us covered, and he said it takes about 14 days, maybe quicker.if not I will be bugging both of them. I bet by now you have everything done. If you don't mind would love o hear from me either by Facebook messaging me DonnaRobbinsSmith. Or by email Mammysm@aol.com. thx for listening. Donna
  4. Oh no! I’m sorry you’re going through this, too! Did your dr mention anything about the weight affecting your approval? Crossing my fingers and toes for you! Keep us updated!!!
  5. I was also self pay, and with a BMI of 69.9, severely obese. I had originally wanted sleeve and the first surgeon I saw suggested bypass because I had GERD and was so overweight. He got let go because of COVID when the hospital cut staff so I went to a different surgeon at another Healthcare system. That doctor recommended either bypass or Loop Duodenal switch, which is basically a sleeved stomach along with and intestinal bypass. Like the sleeve, it can cause GERD, but I chose it because he said it was the most powerful operation and the one I'd likely lose the most weight with.. Since I was paying out of pocket and could only do it once, I chose Loop DS. It has been 10 months and I have had no GERD symptoms so far. I'm currently weaning off my Protonix, so we will see how it goes, but so far so good. [emoji1696] Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

Approval with a BMI of 32?

Awesome. I definitely have joint & chronic pain. A lot of my depression is based around my weight too. Thanks for your input!

Losing too much weight prior to surgery?

I believe that your starting weight is what qualifies you, not the weight at the day of surgery.
  8. Thanks, everyone, for the thoughtful advice! 😊 It seems difficult to get a consensus amongst my doctors (and myself). It seems like they feel either would be appropriate, and that switching to bypass would be a toss-up between a somewhat increased chance of resolving diabetes and losing a little more weight versus an increased risk of long-term complications and vitamin deficiencies (which I've struggled with in the past). I don't think any of my doctors feel there's a really clear answer, and that's what's making this decision really difficult. 😳
  9. Hello, I was wondering if anyone in TX has been approved for the gastric sleeve with a BMI of 32? Since getting injured and being on depression & anxiety medication, I’ve gained 50 lbs in a year. I’ve always have difficulty losing weight, and I’m growing more concerned with the large weight gain + my families medical history of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, etc. I don’t have an medical diagnosis other then endometriosis, pcos, & chronic depression so I can’t imagine insurance is going to cover me - which is okay I guess. I’m just looking for a way to get help because I feel like my health is spiraling.
  10. I am in the same boat. When I go on the liquid diet in a week (pre-surgery), I will definitely drop more than what I am able to be within the range I need to be, which is a BMI of 40. I haven't had much craving for food funerals, but I also haven't dieted as much as I have in the past (fear of gaining, which is not possible with my insurance). I just increased protein and decreased the portions, I wasn't as hungry due to protein...I am struggling to get enough in.....Wondering what my doctor will say about this since I have an appointment pre-surgery coming up. 🧐

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: No new changes, really. Stomach feeling better and better each day. Still sleeping on my back. Had my one week checkup today which just amounted to the doc (one of his associates as my surgeon was not available this week) checking my stomach and asking if I was doing ok with fluids and my meds. He said the first visit they just concentrate on recovery but during my next visits they will start concentrating on weight loss and hitting goals. He said the tugging and burning I feel inside when I do try and lay on my side or move certain ways is normal and that it will be that way for a while. Said wearing a binder MAY help it feel better enough to allow me to sleep on my sides so I may try looking for one. But he said no turning or anything I do can hurt my insides so that at least was reassuring. I also forgot to mention in the beginning of this post that my surgeon took pics while he was doing the surgery and gave them to me. I think there are like 6 or 8 views of my stomach before and after, my gallbladder, liver, a hernia he found, etc. LOL He said my gallbladder looked healthy and he did see a small hernia around my belly button but did not think it was gonna be an issue so he didn't touch it. Hopefully that won't become an issue later cause I think I'll be mad he didn't fix it while he had the chance.
  12. I think we're talking about a couple different things here: Insurance approval, and medical team approval. Based upon my experience, I'm surprised that some people are able to go from 1st consultation to surgery in under 2 months. I guess certain medical organizations are more cautious and/or want to lay the groundwork for success. I was told up front that it would be at least 6 months before surgery would be scheduled, with regular consultations with dieticians, a full psych eval, and the requirement to lose X pounds prior to approval without any major re-gain, or I could be expelled from the program. My initial consult was in July of 2019. In January of 2020 I was medically approved (insurance approval only took a few weeks and the medical team handled the entire process; I never had one interaction with my insurance) and surgery scheduled for April of 2020. Covid unfortunately interrupted everything and my surgery was canceled as all elective surgery was put on hiatus. Trying to keep from gaining weight while being locked down, dealing with the stress of a societal implosion and unrest and the uncertainty of damned near everything, when being predisposed to stress eating was... uhh... "interesting". Then in June of 2020 things were put back on track for a mid-July surgery date.

What is your 1st major milestone?

I guess I wouldn't make a very good project manager (I've always known this!). I just plod away, one foot in front of the other, head down, being a worker bee. I'm trying to think of Mini Goals. Here's what I can come up with: 1) BMI under 40 (225lb) 2) Onederland 3) Fitting in "straight" sizes 4) Under my lowest adult weight of 179 5) BMI under 30 (169lb) 6) BMI in the healthy range 141lbs (stretch goal)
  14. Yes I regret it and I wished I have never done it, I lost weight , I am thin but I'm not healthy. 3 years post op gbp and I'm battling what I suspect reactive hypoglycemia and dumping and vitamin issues. I am a wreck, I would advice nobody to get the surgery.
  15. I am feeling sick all the time now. I thought this was supposed to get better as more time goes by? I am 9 months out and for the past month or so I feel completely nauseous most of the time. I have been trying to eat a little bit more so I don't lose anymore weight but feeling sick isn't allowing it. I started taking Miralax every day per my docs orders and think that this may be the cause of it? I had to cut back to every other day because it was making me have diarrhea. Now even though I am doing it every other day, I still have diarrhea and a bad belly ache/cramps every day. I called the docs office and they said to keep doing what I am doing and they will see what is going on when I have my colonoscopy. Well that isn't for another month. I used to drink Peppermint tea and that would help but now its not helping.

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

...Also, don't forget about some exercise to help things firm up a bit (and stay that way-ish). The weeks/months immediately after weight loss phase I thought I was pretty flappy/gaunt/saggy pretty much everywhere. The plastic surgery 6-7 months into maintenance helped alot of course, but I also think the regular exercise I was doing during that time was also a factor. Case in point: my inner thighs were much firmer-looking around 3-4 months into maintenance, but now, after several months of minimal exercise, I am alot flappier there again. Sigh. Although I am about 3-4 lbs less than what I was after plastics 1.5 years ago, so that may also be a factor?? *shrugs*

    Purée and stall?

This is so frustrating for me right now. I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 12lbs. And most of that was my first week after surgery. I lost 38 before surgery. I am following my diet and now exercising daily. At what point should I be concerned or consult my nutrition team? Should note, this was a revision RNY which my doctor said I might not have a great weight loss from.

    Surgery date set

I have been preparing for surgery since January, and my surgery won't be until July or August. Although waiting has been really hard, I will say that I've taken the time to start eating the types of foods I will need to eat for the long term after surgery - not the post-op liquid diet, but the long term healthy diet of lower carbs, higher protein, lots of veggies, low sugar. Some people have food funerals and gain weight prior to surgery, but I am working really hard to lose weight and it's been great for me so far; I'm realizing that it's not that hard. The only time I crave junk is when I see TV commercials, and I rarely watch TV, so it's not really an issue. Any weight I lose now is weight I don't have to lose after surgery!
  19. I called the surgery center at the end of January and I'm being told I will have my surgery end of July or August... I have the last insurance required nutrition class June 4th, and I will still need to see my PCP, and I'm not sure exactly when I'll have a date. It's really been slooooowwwww. But I've taken the time to lose some weight, so that's good!
  20. I'm sorry this happened. I hope you don't get denied for this! I would just say to be extremely dedicated to tracking every day and eating really "clean" through your next weigh in so you can show them you can lose all the weight you gained and more. I find I'm less hungry when I eat high protein/low carb and lots of veggies and that's how I've lost weight as I prepare for surgery. I also haven't been weighed yet at the office due to COVID so I don't know how their scale is different than mine, but I know that will affect it because I won't be weighing in first thing in the morning completely naked! I hope it works out for you!!!
  21. I'm possibly looking at revision from sleeve to RNY. Weight regain hasn't been too bad, but GERD and hiatal hernia are the reasons. I'm trying to find an upside besides not needing a prescription PPI and Tums for the rest of my life.....what about dumping. Sweets are a struggle with me. I can do it, but it isn't easy. Does anybody think it is a GOOD thing, that the fear of dumping is a deterrent? I think it would be but I'd love to hear from others that have actually had RNY. Thanks y'all.
  22. Yeah, I don't have an option to not take my pills after surgery; the surgeon said just not to take a few that might be affected by the surgery, but I've actually already stopped those for other reasons. I was taking a medication for nightmares that is actually a blood pressure medication and he said I would need to stop that for a bit, but I decided to see what it was like to stop taking it, and I haven't noticed any difference in my nightmares (blood pressure has always been fine). I was also taking metformin for weight loss (still don't have diabetes) and he said I would need to stop taking that, but my doctor never refilled my script for that, so I haven't been on that for a while anyway. I'm losing weight now and I wasn't when I was on it.

    Gastric Sleeve

i was the same i gained 6 stone due to steroids for a condition i have but was put on immune suppressants as i could no longer tolerate the steroids. I thought i would of lost my weight after that but i didn’t and i have been pre menopause since age 33 with my condition affecting my pituitary and hypothalamus, so i had RNY bypass in january 2021, iv lost 3 stone so far but slowed down and been at a stall for over 3 weeks now. i have been getting pain and rang my team and they suggested it could be trapped wind so try something for that, and earlier on after surgery my bowel habits were not regular but once you start gradually eating more proper food it helps. and a few times the colour of mine were really light nearly white but this got better after i was eating proper foods. Hope this helps. 😁
  24. Hello friends! I'm feeling a bit devastated this morning. I just went to my fifth of six required appointments for my insurance. I had gained four pounds 😭. I am two days from "that time of the month" and am SUPER bloated. I can go up 7-10lbs this week of the month easily due to bloat. My previous few appts had been phone visits, so this is my first recorded weight in the office since Feb. I asked the doctor if she thinks I will get denied by insurance. She said maybe. She said she does see them take into account the final weigh in and compare it to the first, but they could deny me for this one weigh-in. She did note that my weight on my scale at home was lower than theirs and I was bloated. She said she couldn't make any promises. Don't get me wrong, I do blame myself 100% for this. I am just frustrated because I have been making positive changes. I have been being careful about not overeating and choosing healthier foods, I walk 15-30 mins each day and have been tracking about half the time (I need to work on this). I've been cooking healthier dishes, swapped to a smaller plate and utensils, dropped almost all of the sugar out of my diet, but the scale just doesn't like to move for me unless I go to extreme measures. This has always been the case for me. I have been making food and non-food changes to set myself up for success - ex. - I recently changed jobs to take a less stressful position because I recognized my previous job was allowing no time to think/act on healthier changes (was working 60 r weeks). I am in the second week of this new job. So, I am just feeling incredibly disappointed in myself and really sad that all of this work the last five months may come down to these stupid four pounds. Again, I own it - I'm not blaming anyone but myself. This is just hard. And it SUCKS. So, I've cried my eyeballs out and now am trying to move forward and make this last month really count. I am determined to drop 10-15lbs before my next appt. Has anyone else gone through this? I have Premera BCBS through Amazon. I am in NC. If my end weight is lower than the first do you think I will get denied? Come hell or high water I WILL weigh less next month! Thanks for listening ❤️

    Calorie & carb intake?

some plans are low carb, some are ultra-low carb, others really don't focus on carbs at all (like mine). I never counted carbs - I just had to be sure mine were the healthy kind (fruit, vegetables, whole grains). And yes - weight loss slows down quite a bit after the first couple of months - but stick with the program. It took me 20 months to lose all my weight, but it's G-O-N-E!
