Vegetarian here. I do a lot of eggs, greek yogurt, cheese, nuts and beans. I occasionally do tofu & edamame. I also eat whole grains like quinoa & farro. I then supplement with unflavored protein powder that can be added to soups as well as used in the protein shakes. I avg about 80 gms of protein a day.

Suggestion-Low fat cottage cheese and lite greek yogurt have a good amount of Protein. Hoping the medicine will help!

Help with daily goals
BLERDgirl replied to knjay1205's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing well for just recently having had surgery. It takes a minute to build up to hitting 60gm protein/64 ounces of fluids. Just keep at it. As for Protein powders, I liked adding FAGE 0% greek yogurt to my mix to give it a nice protein boost. For inexpensive protein powder CVS makes a whey isolate in vanilla and chocolate flavors. The vanilla provides a nice blank canvas to add other flavors to. I would be careful not to use too much fruit since it carries a lots of natural sugar. Perhaps only add fruit a few time a week. I also add a tbsp of almond butter to my drinks occasionally. It takes a lot of trial and error to find a protein shake you like, so don't get discouraged if you dislike the first few you try. I mostly prefer to use Isopure unflavored because I can also add it to hot beverages like soup. -

I love the unjury Protein powders!! Loved them before surgery and, fortunately, still love them post surgery. You can order Unjury online at www.unjury.com. If you're not satisfied with the product, you can return it. For me, it comes to about $1.25 per serving for just the powder. They even have a chicken Soup option that I use for lunch at work; just be careful of Water temperature (read the directions). It took me weeks before I felt like I was able to drink enough liquids throughout the day. Some days it's still a struggle to get enough in. Sip, sip, sipping all day long is the key. Once I recovered from my complications and was able to eat regular foods, getting enough protein became a little easier, but I still supplement with protein shakes, at least 1-2 servings a day. My new tummy doesn't tolerate much food at meal time. Some "go to" foods for me are (in no particular order): 4 oz. 2% cottage cheese (or less fat) Unjury protein powder mixed with various beverages, i.e. skim milk, SF drink mixes, etc. Low fat cheese/cheese sticks Beef Jerky (a favorite) (Aldi's/Simmons brand) Boiled egg Peanut Butter 1/2 cup black beans w/meat (my made up "recipe") Yogurt Roasted chicken Good luck on your journey!!! -

I also use this powder, I didn't know I could add it to yogurt I thought it had to be dissolved into a liquid. Thanks for the tip! I put it in my refried Beans with melted cheese today. Yum!

Hey! I had my sleeve on March 23rd and have doe really well on pureed Soups and liquids. I have tried chicken salad, cottage cheese and yogurt but I am having trouble with my stomach. It goes down to my stomach and then feels stuck like. Also I feel like my stomach is irritated too. Like when I drink it kind of burns. Does anyone have any input on this? Thank!

I can relate to things not tasting the same and the lack of energy. I am having a hard time with the artificial sweeteners in the protein drinks. I am using Greek yogurt as my main source of protein now. You will get through this your body needs time to adjust to its new lifestyle. Your mind wants it yesterday, your body will catch up. Stay strong Sam!

Pork chops are a now a thing of my past, like roast. Not worth it! I'm going to liquids today. I am super tight from last night's episode, so I think that's best. B-8 oz shake w/fiber L-greek yogurt w/fiber S-8 oz shake w/fiber D-8 oz shake w/fiber S-8 oz shake w/fiber 719c, 105p, 30nc I think I'll make some egg drop soup today. I've got a great recipe that's low cal and low carb. It always helps with liquid days if I have that on hand too. I'll have 72oz of Water & some form of exercise. If it's not raining, we'll walk outside again. It was great last night, 72 & sunny. I'll take it!! So.....what's your plan for today?

April 1st Sleevers! Tomorrow is our Day!
CrissyBat replied to x0CheekzVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Morning All,Well yesterday I went back to work and wasn't so bad. Everyone mentioned how I looked like I had lost weight, but I played it off since no one knows what I have done. Eventually I'll say something. I was able to manage to eat a whole yogurt and a 20 oz bottle of Water with a Crystal Light add in. This wasn't done at the same time but throughout the day. So that was an accomplishment for me. So I made it through the day. The most taxing part of the day was having to go to the grocery store and shop for company coming over. The rush through the store made me a little flush. I came home and cooked for the first time. It was such a weird experience. I cooked a meal without even knowing how it tasted along the way or even the finished product. So I just kept quizzing my husband on how it tasted. I told him I felt a Blind person trying to write on a piece of paper. You know you've done something, but you don't what the final product came out as. Crazy. Well as for the BM, that hasn't taken place. 7 days. I took the suggested dosage of Miralax on Monday and still nothing. If it isn't happening because of my water intake then my goose is cooked, because I'm drinking as much has I can handle. I don't feel any discomfort, but I know I need to go. Ooh my, the struggle is real. Thanks x0CheekzVSG, for checking on my day. How is today going for you? @@CrissyBat have you done any exercise yet (walking)? I finally did and tell you what - it certainly got my bowels moving. I'm not getting all my liquids in either - I don't know why I thought that would be the least of my problems. Everytime I drink though, even a little, my stomach starts rumbling. I find that I tolerate crystal light and Vitamin water better than regular water. My goal for today: 32 oz h20, & 1 protein shake. Baby steps! @@brandnewme2015, I was walking in spurts. Well today I walked continuously for 45 min and I'm proud to say, I had a BM. Thank you. Well as far as today, it's been a weird one. I woke up extermly hungry and thirsty. That was a 1st. So I said I would hold out for a Protein shake, NOT! I didn't have any cold, so I iced one down. That only caused what felt like indigestion, so I only took a few sips. So after I waited my 30 min, I went for some cold water. That's all I could think of. I just felt like gulping, but I tried to slow my sips. Well after that I felt nauseous. Grrrrrr! Well on my next TO DO for the day was to get in all my Vitamins. It seems everytime I took them, the nausea came back. I don't know if that's because I haven't eaten enough or what. Is there anyone getting in all of their vitamins in a day. So basically I have been nauseous all day so I haven't done good on water or calorie in take. I wish everyone the best of luck. -
I'm five months out. at this point constipation remains my biggest enemy. Colace seems to be consistently good. smooth move tea is good, but not every day. I eat yogurt almost every day, too. The Apple is the best. But it took me a while to be able to eat one with the skin. I have it with PB2 every night. It is a total treat. Good luck.

Learning how to eat slowly!
della street replied to canes2015's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 10 weeks post-op bypass -- it does get easier, but for me at least, required full concentration on chewing. I've had to tell my husband to be aware that I need to chew-chew-chew because sometimes he'd ask me a question and when I didn't reply immediately, he'd ask again and again -- I now hold up my hand and point to my chewing-away-jawbone ) One time I ate a Greek yogurt too fast, and my pouch hurt, too. I knew I hadn't eaten anything 'bad' -- just too fast ( Not much help for you, sorry - but I do sympathize -
I agree with everyone's comments. I'll use today as my sample day. Mind you I'm vegetarian so my Proteins are mostly plant based. I do supplement with unflavored Isopure. I also tend to eat light for dinner. lunch is my biggest meal because I am most active between 8 am - 2pm. I usually drink 4 -8 ounces of Water when I wake up. Most days I go the gym in the morning and I can't stomach food and then workout. This morning's Protein shake was Fage 0% greek yogurt+a scoop of Isopure unflavored +½tsp cacao powder +½ unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk. I typically drink half before my workout and the rest on the way home from the gym. (40 gm protein) I carry a water bottle with me everywhere. If I'm not full from the protein shake I start sipping on that. Once I get home I'll make lunch Today was ¾ cup of meatless turkey and left over malai kofta (an Indian dish made with chickpeas, pea, spices in a sauce made of tomatoes and cashews.) It was mostly just the sauce leftover. (15 gm protein) I also often eat a salad with an egg and black Beans for my protein but I wanted to use up the leftovers before they went bad. I'll then refill the water bottle and drink that. Typically another 20 -24 ounces depending on which bottle I grab. Today's snack was 2 pineapple rings. Sometimes I need that bit of sweetness and I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners. Dinner is Soup with a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder. (27 gm protein.) I don't often snack in the evening so I may sip on water. One other thing I try to do is plan ahead. I log my food for the day in the morning before I head out to the gym. I don't eat them often but I keep Protein Bars in the glove compartment of my car along with 1 ounce servings of nuts (usually cashews or pistachios) in case I get snacky. I also have a Blender Bottle storage jar set. It's a tremendous in staying on track. Saturday I was meeting friends at an event. I knew they were serving a continental breakfast but wasn't sure what all that would entail. I carried the top 2 tiers only. The top help my Calcium supplements and the bottom help a scoop of unflavored protein. It fit perfectly in my handbag. At the event I had fruit, yogurt and a cup of coffee to which I added my protein powder.

@@Aube, below is a "typical" day's menu: As for carbs, mostly I get them from my shakes, Greek yogurt, and the very limited veggies I'm able to fit in after my Protein. Other doctors and nutritionists give you carb targets, but my doctor just says to limit them as much as possible. If you're not logging your food yet, I'd suggest using http://www.myfitnesspal.com/. It helps you keep track of your protein and fluids, but also can help you figure out if anything is going off track and affecting your weight loss. Okay, here's an example of my day: I keep a 2-quart jug and a 24-oz Tervis tumbler (with a handle) both at home and at work. I count my morning Protein shake as a meal, not a Fluid. (Premier Protein - 30 grams of protein) 30-60 minutes later, I have a cup of coffee. (Count it as a fluid if you like.) After that, I drink a 24-oz. tumbler of decaf, sugar-free iced tea, like Crystal Light throughout the morning. (Lots of frequent sips) Then I walk for 40+ minutes. Then it's lunchtime - tuna salad or chicken salad, or leftover protein from dinner. (16-22 grams of protein) and maybe a bite of veggies if there's room. About 45 minutes after lunch, I'll fill another 24-oz tumbler of iced tea and sip that throughout the afternoon, finishing by 30 minutes before my afternoon snack. At around 4:00 or 4:30, my afternoon snack is usually a Greek yogurt (12 grams of protein) or some leftovers. (This is also a good time to get in some veggies or a V-8 if you're getting enough protein at other times.) Maybe a cup of hot tea in the later afternoon. (Count it as a fluid you like.) Then dinner – again, getting 20-25 grams of protein from lean steak, fish, chicken, or pork, and maybe a bite or two of veggies. Finally, another 24-oz cup of iced tea or Water 30-45 minutes after dinner that I sip throughout the evening. If I'm hungry later, sugar-free Jello, pudding, or popsicles are good. And if I'm short on protein or still hungry, another yogurt or protein shake. (I'm not worried about the calories because this menu only provides 700-900 per day.) All my Snacks are protein-based (nuts, Jerky, cheese, yogurt) So that's 70+ grams of protein and 72+ ounces of fluid, with some exercise as well. If you have a regular enough schedule, you can follow it every day. If not, maybe a modified version will work. The big trick is in pre-planning your meals and your fluids, especially if you're going to be away from home or work. In those cases, I always make sure there will be something I can eat, or I bring along a Protein shake or some kind of meat to carry me through. I've also gotten pretty good at restaurant eating. I avoid the bread and salad, order chicken, steak, lamb, fish, or pork, trade in the starch for a second veggie, skip the dessert.... and end up taking half of the meat, and almost all of the veggies home. I know we need to learn to eat "normally", but I'm not there yet – especially when it comes to carbs. When I get to goal weight, I'll work on finding my new low-carb "normal". Hope that helps! Rog

New idea for protein...and it tastes GOOD!
missheidi47 replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@CanyonBaby I will ask the dietician when I see her in a few weeks. Right now I can't do that much Protein all at once. During my pre-op diet I mixed Protein Powder with plain Greek yogurt, which is about 45g and really yummy. I guess if I do it next week when I'm on full liquids I will only be able to eat half (or less) at a time anyway. -
8 days post op pain even when drinking fluids
BLERDgirl replied to kerryyoung's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can also thin out yogurt with milk or by blending in a nutra bullet. However if you are not feeling ready to progress to the next food stage, let your nutritionist know. There's no need to move forward until you are ready if it's going to cause you pain & discomfort. -
I love genepro protein powder. It's tasteless, dissolves in anything. 1 small scoop is 30 grams. I just dissolve 2 a day in anything I'm drinking or eating. Soup, juice, yogurt.... There is no way I could get my protein with out it. I despise protein drinks & the fake sweeteners give me headache.

Okay guys..I started back at work and my whirlwind job makes it way difficult to consume liquids and eat because I'm always on the go. I'm sure so many of you can relate. I've taken to doing shakes through out the day just because they are easier to transport, I'm able to be less mindful of the size of bites and the number of chews. Probably not the best bc I don't wanna be on shakes indefinitely, but I'm only 4 weeks out so I think shakes are still super normal to use. Here's my question: I can drink 14 ounces of a shake super fast. I can drink a 16oz Water bottle over a series of three slightly spaced "chugs." Am I doing anything super harmful to my sleeve? When I eat food, I feel restriction at about a quarter cup (if it's super dense. Maybe a half cup of something like yogurt) I don't want my quick drinking to stretch my pouchie poo out. On the plus side---I'm meeting my protien and liquid goals daily lol. Any thoughts?

GOOOOD MORNING!!! Let's take today and make it happen!!! I didn't get exercise in last night, let myself slip into a pity party. I did eat totally as planned though, so I'll take it since I fought head hunger all stinkin' day long. Today's plan: B-8 oz shake w/fiber L-Rev wrap and greek yogurt S-8 oz shake w/fiber D-pork chop 828c, 108p, 34nc As you can see from those stats, I've cut net carbs and increased Protein in an attempt to boost weight loss. My NP suggested I try it and see if it helps with this last 20-30 pounds I want to lose. I've got to quit fooling around and make it happen if I really, truly want to see my goal weight. I could actually do it by fall if I'd get serious.
