    A Dream

I haven't noticed any change in my dream state as a result of surgery. But on the other hand: As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine or through your sweat glans. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

    I've Been Bad

I went to a weight loss surgery meeting last night and met a girl who was 3 years out. She has gained 40lbs back from eating the bad things she knew she wasnt supposed to eat. Not encouraging but a warning. It can happen. She ate a whole black forest cake on Valentines day just grazing on it all day. You know what you have to do, you didnt go through all of this to slide backwards. You had a few bites. no big deal, you are human! but dont let it be a habit. get out of the house, go for a walk, join a gym, start a yoga class. change something little and it will help knock you out of your rut. You worked really hard to get where you are now, keep up the good work and keep on going!!
  3. Just wondering for those that have more to lose how do you go about walking so soon? Maybe it is just me, but right now (pre-op) I can barely make it to my mailbox and back without passing out...from my weight and the heat (tx). Does your body really adjust that quickly? I would LOVE to be able to go for a walk the week after surgery...but I just can not see this happening. I will still be morbidly obese and then I think about when I do any physical exercise how thirsty I am. I am still trying to sort it all out in my head I guess. If we can not gulp down some cold Water after a workout/walk, etc. Im not sure how I can do it. I can usually drink a 20 oz bottle of water without stopping till its gone. Wont be able to do that after.....how do we stay hydrated in 100 degree temps and trying to walk outisde?
  4. My dad had lap band in March of 2008 great results with weight loss but has always had throwing up problems. Recently over past few months developed a problem swallowing. Last Thursday he had a Brain Stem Stroke (minor) and is now lost any ability to swallow. When the surgeon went to put in the stomach peg it was unsuccesfull he was unable to scope past his esophagus. The had to go the alterate route and it was succesfull. The speach Therapist mentioned that Lap Band patients have developed swallowing problems and have had to have espophial dissolution. Obviously the stroke can also cause the problem I am wandering since he had trouble prior to the stroke if it is possible to be a side affect of the Lap Band. He is still in the hospital and has no other side affects that are major from the stroke. Sorry for my spelling and grammer. Any advise or feedback is apreciated.

    Workouts for apple shaped bodies

I was sleeved with dr kelly on 09/02 and like you I carry most all my weight in my stomach. My legs and arms are small, and my butt if you could call it that (lol) not really much there at all. I remember when I wanted to tone up and lose weight I worked on the stair master and elipictical those were so good for toning. Plus I use to love to run on the treadmill and my belly fat seem to melt away. I am just now trying to get back to the gym every other day, because I am in no way ready for running. I will have to work at that, but I have never seen the weight fall of so fast as I did when I got up to running. Each day I would run for as long as I could and then rest and before I knew it I could run for an entire hour. Talk about over all toning that made everything tight. At a year of working on the treadmill I was up to running at 7speed for an hour, wow that felt good. Then I became pg, had my son and haven't been back to the gym consistently in 4 years. Also, gym people tell me to add 15 minutes of weights everyday from the beginning, but for some reason I just couldn't get into weights. All though they really do the body good. I just found it boring. but seriously running will melt your belly. Let me know how it goes... Good luck! Laura
  6. Just a gentle reminder to my fellow sleevers to always stay hydrated! Spring is here summer is around the corner so water is essential. I had my sleeve in January 24 2012 so I'm over a year out. Even now im still trying get my 64 minimum! I started at 240 highest and currently I weigh 165- my goal is 140 so 25 lbs away from there! I check the scale every other week because now I dont care about my weight I care about how I feel. By now I can eat anything 6 to 8 oz max if its protein then 6 max. Carbs I can stuff more lol. I ate carby foods and gained 10 pounds and I acknowledge every savory bite. Breaks over!! I'm going back to protein shakes and sticking with my vitamins and I know I'll hit my goal. What I'm focusing on is yoga, cardio and strength training. I love working out! Its an amazing and beautiful experience to know that you can do something and not feel tired in pain. At 24 years old feeling that happiness brought tears to my eyes. I LOVE my body. My scars my tiger marks are a part of me. I'm okay with it. I eat as many fruits and veggies as I want because I can't eat that much anyways. The sleeve works there is no excuse! I can share one slice of pizza with my mom and feel good when before I ate the whole box. Seriously. I share food with my family when before food was something I couldn't even control. Working out is my high. I just need to remember to drink water! Hope this motivated and helpes some good luck and well wishes to all!
  7. I am scheduled for the 17th, and I am getting more nervous as days go on. I've had surgeries but nothing this major. I start my pre-op diet on the 7th (10 days). Not to freak you out (actually this still freaks me out!) but the other night I actually woke up in a nightmare choking, thinking that I already had the surgery and had some kind of obstruction from it and couldn't breathe... It's weird, because I know this is something I chose to do and not an immediate life or death surgery. In the end I keep telling myself it WILL be life or death if I don't get the weight off.... regardless the anxiety is setting in bigtime as the days pass and the date comes closer. I am going to ask my primary if he can give me some anxiety relief meds when I see him in two weeks.
  8. I am told 1) it will shrink my liver and 2) I did not really loose the required weight before surgery. But mostly I guess it shrinks your liver and is better for surgery. I can drink Protien drinks i am going with Designer Whey with 100 Calories and 18g of protien. So I can drink more in a day. I plan on drink 5 so that will get me to 500 calories and 90g of protien. Inbetween I plan on fat free jello which is 10 calories per box and probably going to pick up some fat free popsicles. I am really not look fawrd to it but I am going to do this.. It is my first of many goals in my life and it starts with this clear liquid diet I need to do!!! As I type this it is now early Thanksgiving morning and Thanksgiving is my last big meal I plan on having. hahaha I have sleep apnea and I want off my cpap machine. I can not sleep with out that thing. I have to bring it with me if i want to sleep other then home. If the power goes out in the middle of the night I can not sleep at all with out. I try to lay down and take a nap I feel like I can not breath.. I don't like the way I look I hate my neck and other parts of my body. I need to do this for myself but more importantly I need to do this for my 15 yr old daughter. I want to be around for her longer then I am going to be if I continue down this road i am on. The surgery part scares me to death, like I said I have never had surgery before for anything. I like the fact that there are others out here that have the same date as me.. Its like we can start this new life together and have each other to talk to about things and how each otehr is doing. Mel I will add her right now
  9. yeah I also guessed he might thought I was talking about power lifting, but I did clarify to him that I just wanted to have a decent amount of weight training in between cardio days, and even though I clarified, he remained so sure on his statements. So much that I actually thought that all I learned trough out the year about weight training was wrong, he made me doubt :S
  10. Weight loss now will be as hard as it was before surgery. Since your daily calories are already so low, there isn't much room for change there. You could try going full keto. You didn't mention exercise.. if it's possible to increase that... At some point, I think you'll do well to just shed the few extra pounds that are making your clothes tight, and not worry about the rest. Focus on, say, 20lbs. Get that off, then re-evaluate. You do NOT want to get back on the yo-yo wagon. It would be better to buy bigger clothes and STAY PUT, rather than boarding that train! In other words, whatever you do to change things up, you'll need to keep doing for good. Make sure you are sleeping enough. (which might mean 9 hours a night). It really will make a difference.
  11. I was sleeved 1/27. I have been exercising since day 3....started out with short, slow walks and just gradually added activity. I bought and am using a fibit Force (LOVE IT) and I have my first session with a personal trainer tomorrow after work. I am working out every day for about 60 mins-- 2 days weights, 2 days 90 min of hot yoga, 3 days 60 min or more of cardio. I have lost 21 pounds in 4 weeks. i have hope for the first time in a long time I might get back to the fit person I was about 6 years ago before I stopped exercising and ate my way up to 300 pounds. I am feeling really good about myself-- I LOVE exercise and I am excited to do more things (like kickboxing and racketball) as I lose more and gain mobility/reduce risk of injury!! I AM EXCITED!!!

    crazy question....

During my mushies phase, I was lucky to have enough room for the proteins (which you need to eat first) and veggies to have room for rice and pasta. Plus, simple, refined carbs are not conducive to weight loss. Maybe whole wheat pasta or brown rice instead?
  13. I have limited resources (Iraq, army cob), can anyone recommend a resistance band workout that doesn't rely on a videotape? I want something that will strengthen and tone and I want to do it in my room until my confidence is high enough to get me to the public gym. Plus I'm concerned with maintaining/increasing muscle tone as I lose weight. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    only weightlifting

This topic may have been addressed here already but I couldn't find it. Due to my knees and now a foot condition, the treadmill and bike are too painful. Do youthink it is possible to get an all over workout with just lifting weights? Will circuit training do the job? I think I may also be motivated to workout if I stick to lifting. I was getting bored with the bike so avoiding the gym. Now my foot is acting up. My work involves being on my feet on cement floors for 8 hours which may have some impact on my motivation to jump on the bike or treadmill.

    Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred

Has anyone done the 30 day shred? This is not for the faint. The program is like working with a personal trainer...seriously. Jillian is no joke. But there have been a lot of good reviews/results with her program. just do a google search for reviews and you'll see. I am guessing it is not against board rules to post other websites since we reference weight watchers on this board so...do a search on Amazon and my fitness pal community and you'll see some amazing results. Anyway, I am only on day two but am siked! BTW, this is not for the beginner. I have heard some say they do it in conjunction with Couch to 5k and other running/walking/exercises.
  16. These are all great ideas! To inject one small word of caution into the narrative though, please be careful to use correct form, especially when dealing with heavy weights. I don't want to imagine what it would be like to get a sleeve and be all excited about getting fit and muscular, and then getting a hernia or a ruptured disk. Otherwise, exercise safe, and (most important) have FUN!
  17. Hi all I am new to this forum and have a question that may require an expert to answer. My wife is on Peritoneal Dialysis (she has dialysis Fluid in her peritoneum all the time). So my question is when they insert the Lapband wouldn't it compromise the peritoneum causing the dialysis fluid to leak ? Just wondering as she needs to lose a lot of weight in order to qualify for a kidney transplant. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer, DDP
  18. If you are post-op and were a low BMI patient ... Did you still have hair loss considering you most likely didn't have a huge amount of weight to lose? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I read several posts within another thread on bicycling and it has me interested in taking it up as an exercise regime especially when we go camping on weekends. I know most skinny tired racing bikes would not hold up to 400 lbs and the ones I have seen on the internet for "Big People" are way out of my price range. Would a Schwinn Heavy Duty handle this kind of weight? Any other affordable bikes out there? :help:
  20. I have always had a problem with overdoing when I exercise. I try to start small and work up gradually but I end up getting worn out and can't do anything for a week or more. This lady tells you how to build up after WLS. She said to increase the time by 10% per week. I hope this works for me. This is an excellent lecture for those new to the band or exercise. It is called "Lecture on Importance of Exercise Immediately After Weight Loss Surgery Weight Loss Surgery http://www.dynamic-progress.com/exercise-video-lecture/ http://www.youtube.c...t=FLFNut9fnDIMQ

  22. Hey All, I am entering Day 1 of my Pre-op and I am sooooo excited. I think I am almost too excited to be hungry! It's been an okay starts. My husband and I have been up since 7 with our DD. He keeps slipping up. He brought me some French Vin coffee in bed. But then I had to remind him that start my pre-op today. So only Water. I think I am going to try to plan each day out the day before. While there aren;t any calorie restrictions, I still want to make sure I look at my carbs (no more than 40 a day) sat fats (no more than 5/serving). So here is what I had and what I plan on for the day Goal: Shrink the Liver not Loose weight 9:00 am 16 oz of water and a plain hard-boiled egg 10:15- 16 oz of water a a half of banana (other half is my daughter's :-) 11:30- 16 oz of water and a apple 1:30- Protein shake (150 cal/ 1 gr of sat fat/ 6 g of carbs/ 26gr Protein) and 8 oz of water 4ish -Some snack within guidelines (I was thinking Greek yogurt with frozen strawberries) with 16 oz of water Dinner- Plain chix breast w/ sweet pea with 16 oz of water Late night snack if needed- Protein Shake (280 cal/ 2 sat fats/8 gr carb/ 56 gms of protein) Wish me luck!

    Ideal Weights..are They Kidding?

When I went to the doctor for my consultation I honestly thought that I did have a big frame. I was shocked when he said that I will probably be more on the small/petite size once I've lost all the weight. My BMI chart said that at 5'5" I should be about 120, but Dr W. says that I'll look great at 135/140. Those charts are so confusing, and he said that doctors shouldn't use them anymore.

    Fun strength training ideas?

You can make sandbags, get a duffle bag, and some plastic sheets, fill the plastic with sand, duct tape the crap out of it, and put it in the bag. You can make the sandbags smaller that way you can add/remove weight from the larger bag depending on what you want to do. You can do overhead press, squats, firemans carry sprints, sandbag toss, farmers carry with 2 of them, and many other things. With the tire (go to an old tire store and ask for one, even a semi truck tire is decent to start with), and get a sledgehammer, beat the living crap out of the tire. Just be careful when doing these outside, your neighbors will think you're insane. I frequently take my 500 pound tire to the front and flip it down the street and back, I've had neighbors come out and join me, and other just look at us like we're freaks. It's good times had by all. My backyard has numerous tires from 250lbs to 800lbs, several homemade sandbags, kettlebells and dumbbells (the old ones that have either chipped or cracked that I no longer care about), some atlas stones, a few farmers carry handles, an old water soaked heavy as hell punching bag with 25 foot rope attached for carrying or dragging, and a homemade wooden push sled.
  25. The only person you have to believe in is YOURSELF. How hard are you planning on working? How bad do you want to lose your weight? How committed are you to your own success? You don't have to answer any of these questions out loud, you only have to be honest with yourself. You can do anything you want to do with this surgery. There are far too many amazing success stories on this site alone to think that you can't succeed if you give it 110%. Can you fail? ABSOLUTELY! But only if YOU allow it.
