    Really off track...

Congratulations on taking a very important step toward success - coming back to this site, where you can get answers and support. There are 2 things you must do to start feeling the restriction again: (1) Focus on eating dense Protein, and eating it FIRST at every meal. Carbs and sweets, and other slider foods, are guaranteed to leave you feeling less restriction than dense protein. (2) If you have gotten away from the rule about no drinking from 30 min before to at least 30 min after each meal, you have to get back on track with that in order to feel the restriction. The best way to get rid of the craving for carbs and sweets is to stop eating them. I realize that is much easier said than done, but keep in mind that the cravings will be totally gone after 3 days. You can do it!! Best wishes!

    Bad, Negative Attitude

Well said Sasha..... Sara you and I are band twins.. I was banded on 5/18 too 5 days ago. I am struggling tonight. Made dinner for my family taco salads... They smelled so good. I was dying to just put one bite in my mouth, just one, but the shear fear of getting stuck or putting my health in further jeopardy kept me from doing it. I get to start mushies tomorrow. I have talked myself out of pureeing Soup, potatoes or oatmeal all day! I know some get to eat mushies sooner but my Dr says one week so I might even be off by saying tomorrow...It is so tough and the one thing we all have to remember is we wouldn't need a lap band or surgery if we weren't addicted to food and had the ability to control our portions. Food has been my comfort when I was stressed, my friend when I was lonely and certainly my confidence when I felt I had none. How are you messing up? Don't risk complications by eating things you shouldn't be. You have made it this far I know you can do it! I had my hubby go to our favorite Chinese place today and he got me hot and sour soup. We strained it so all I have is the broth left. It is heaven. I would much rather have had their taco salad but I know that will come when I am healed. Are you drinking a lot of Water? I hope we can help you in some way your my band twin and I know we can do this together!!!
  4. Just corious im on day 1 and my oc has me on 3 shakes starting and liqs today. Was this normal for you guys to? I see most people did not start shakes till wk2.

    Beating pre op cravings!

Traveled to Atlanta today on business with Orlando later in the week. Yesterday I beat the cravings. Today I was pretty strict. I typically fly first class being a frequent traveler and boy, they just try to feed you! I did pretty darn good today. Not perfect but soooooo much better than I would have done even a month ago. Think I may just go find a treadmill in the hotel to kill time.

    YAY FOR FRESH VEGGIES!!!

A good friend who had gastric bypass had her only horrible moment on a taco out to eat with her husband. She's never eaten a taco since. This was like 3 years after her surgery! That's always in the back of my mind........ and not a pretty image. Oh...and what was your surgery date? I can't wait to be able to test fresh veggies.

    5 days after surgery

I’m 3 days post op and their goals for me are 64 oz of water/ fluids (shakes count) and 60 to 80g of protein. I’m getting closer on protein than water. My friend used to work as a nut in bariatric dept I was sleeved and she said it’s normal not to reach these goals in the first week and not to be too worried about dehydration bc it would be for those woh can’t keep anything down and at that point would recommend Gatorade. I’m in the 50s for protein and 26 for water.

    Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass?

So happy for both of you! I hope I get to meet my goals also pray everything goes well. Still debating on sleeve or bypass. Now did you get any loose skin? How many weeks did it take you to heal before exercising??

    Strict doctor's orders

It's strict, all right. Ill be one week Clear liquids after banding, 3 additional weeks of "full liquids" then mushies then "real" food. It's so far off I try not to even think about it. I've been on full liquids for almost a week and thought I was doing well. The idea of clear liquids for a month is pretty grim. You'll probably never want to see another drop of chicken broth as long as you live! I think you've got to throw your trust into your doctor. He knows your body and history and must have a reason for a month of clear. Maybe he's used to patients who are non-compliant, and just assumes you will be too, so gives you a super strict regimen. You might want to talk to him about it and ask him if he got you confused with a GB patient, lol. Good luck to you!
  14. So I’m 22 days post op. I had the gastric sleeve done on June 19,2019. My starting weight was 255 and I’m down to 229 but of course I’m experiencing a stall. I have been gradually adding soft foods after the 2 weeks. So like mashed potatoes boiled eggs really tender chicken soft veggies soft salmon. Everything has been soft and I have been making sure to chew. I see that some people don’t get hungry but I’m starting to. Some days I have restrictions other days I don’t. I feel like I did something wrong maybe stretched my stomach. I don’t know if that is even possible so early in. Really just wonder if anyone has any answers or had felt this ?
  15. Takes awhile i was uncomfortable and miserable for a few weeks - Then like overnight i felt great - Ride it out as for the heartburn get meds for it from your Doc. Soon life will be normal - but we all agree the pre week diet sucks and the first few weeks after suck. But its worth it big time
  16. Hello! I'm new to this community. I'm 27 years old, 5'5" tall, and I weigh in around 230lbs. My highest RECORDED weight is 268lbs in Dec of 2015. I'm looking to have the Gastric Sleeve surgery done, hopefully before this year is out. Luckily, my insurance does cover WLS, but I'm looking to have it done before the year ends due to having a high out of pocket deductible. Because of other medical issues I've had this year, it would greatly reduce my share of the payment. So far I've gone to the WLS seminar and a support group meeting. My Consultation with a surgeon, nutritionist, fitness coordinator, and first psych eval will be done on Sept 20th. My MiL and SiL had the Gastric Sleeve done in April or May of 2016. I thought it sounded too good to be true, and wanted to have it done back then. My husband recently developed foot and back problems and has decided to look into surgery and is going through the process as well to have the VSG done. It took me 3 days to finally decide that WLS was right for me. I had to battle with my unhealthy relationship with food, as well as my fear of failure. I still have moments of doubt, but all of the online research of articles and YT videos has so far overruled my nerves. I am still nervous about being approved, though. My BMI is only 38.3, and the seminar noted that you needed to have 1 co-morbidity and needed 2 co-morbidities in 2 different places. The only co-morbidity I have for sure ATM is sleep-apnea. I suspect I have PCOS, but my near constant taking of BCPs has the clinical symptoms under control. I also have GERD, and I read somewhere that GERD could be considered a co-morbidity, but I've only seen that once and am not sure. Does anyone know if GERD is considered a co-morbidity? I know it's a frequent side-effect, but that doesn't help me. lol. I'm also worried that I won't pass the psych eval. I am bi-polar and am on a few anti-depressants, as well as go for Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT). I'm worried that with being hospitalized in Nov of 2014 and Nov of 2015 for psychiatric reasons, as well as being a current ECT patient will weigh against me. Any thoughts/experiences in this area would be great to hear about. And here's my husband's and my faces for you. Picture taken in Summer of 2013.

    5 days after surgery

Hi there, I can relate - I’m 3 days out and I have no idea if I’m getting enough or too much in. I just had an optifast soup, which is fine according to my plan, but other plans say it should just be clear broths at this stage. The soup sat best with me than anything I’ve had yet post-op but I can only get tiny sips in, so I don’t know if I’m stopping because of discomfort or because I’m full. It’s more important to get liquid in at this stage than protein to stay hydrated so don’t stress about protein. I guess we just need to listen to our bodies better right now. I went for a walk and it really helped with gas pain. I wish I could be more help, but I’m in exactly the same boat and don’t know if I’m doing this right. Stay in contact - we should start a group for December sleevers.
  18. The weeks after surgery are not necessarily to lose weight, but to heal properly from the surgery itself. This is why doctors usually do not fill the band immediately after surgery. You are healing and it is normal to feel hungry. Your doctor would tell you that this is normal. There are many people that feel like they are able to eat as if they never had the surgery. This is why these weeks are referred to as Bandster's Hell. Many people do not lose weight during the time before their first fill. If you do not lose, or you gain, it is okay. You will lose soon enough once you begin getting your fills. If you do happen to lose weight, consider it a bonus. Just remember that everybody is different. Just because one person lost 20 pounds in the 5 weeks after surgery does not mean that you will. Also be aware that you may not feel restriction with your first fill. If you read the threads on this website, you will see that many people do not start feeling restriction or really losing weight until the 3rd-4th fill. Be patient. Just keep making good food choices, try not to overeat, and take this time to heal. Rachel
  19. My body is so weird right now, it's like it doesn't belong to me... Why now, after 7 weeks would I start to feel so weird??? - I'm suffering from the worst insomnia I've ever had in my life. Last week I went to sleep at 4:30 three separate nights, and this week I saw 3:30 twice in a row getting up at 6am both the next days. I'm so tired it hurts and I'm getting a sty in my eye, but yet I get in bed and can't settle down. I just lay there, staring at the ceiling. I'm not worried, or nervous, or even thinking about much. I just cannot seem to relax enough to drift off... - I have MASSIVE amounts of gas all of a sudden. I don't think I'm doing much differently, but I'm passing gas constantly and my stomach feels very bloated - I seem to have developed hemorrhoids for the first time ever. Yuck & ouch! - For some reason I suddenly feel my sternum, poking down between my ribs. WTH???? I've never felt this before. I thought I might be feeling the band, but I think the band is deeper inside me so I'm assuming this is breastbone. But Why have I never felt it before?? I haven't lost that much weight. Some, but it's not like I'm skinny or anything... - My stomach muscles hurt sometimes. Randomly. I lie on my stomach sometims and am fine. And the next it hurts. I was in a 5 hour meeting yesterday and finally had to stand up because sitting bent me at the stomach and hurt. has anyone else had this before? Would very much appreciate any insights on any of these weird issues!!! Thanks!
  20. Hi Sasha, I had insomnia pretty severely also. It's funny because 4:30 was the time I was falling asleep too. I went to the drs 3 times because I couldn't function without sleep. They changed some of my med times around the 1st time then gave me trazadone the 2nd time (it did nothing), finally at my follow up psychiatrist appointment he gave me triazolam (halcion I think). What a huge difference! He gave .25 mg and I only took 1/4 each time. After about 2 weeks my body seemed to reset itself and I don't usually need to take anything now (occasionally if I am not asleep by midnight I will take a small piece of one and I am out). I know how frustrating it is, talk with your doc and let him know how much it is disrupting your life.
