  1. I found this years ago, and while it sounds crazy, I always listen to what it says lol. 1. Thou shalt consume thy Protein first, followed by thy veggies and fruits. If thou, then hast any room left thou shalt comusme thy carbs lastly! 2. Thou shalt take the tiniest of bites, placing thy fork and thy spoon upon thine table, that thou shalt have more time between bites to savor that which thou hast eaten, and allow thy stomach adequate time to inform thy brain of thine fullness. 3. Thou shalt chew and chew and when thou has done so, thou shalt chew some more, lest thy band rise up and smite thee, causing in thy chest great pain, and spewing forth. 4. Thou shalt drink of thy Water, copiously, consuming all that has been recommended to thee, that thou mayest be spared the pangs of hunger and dehydration, and thou shalt thus, also keep thy kidneys well flushed, that thou shalt not develop stones to aggrieve thee. 5. Thou shalt exercise in a manner that thou mayest choose, of thine own accord, providing that thou art faithful to thine execise regimen, that thou shalt not falter on thy journey to thine smaller self. 6. Thou shalt honor thy band and maintain it well, that it shalt be a steadfast friend to thee throughout thine entire life. Thou wilt, from time to time, as thou hast been told, obtain for it the fills that it needest that it may then help thee in thy hours of need, keeping it always in perfect adjustment for thine benefit. 7. Thou shalt not worry and gnash thy teeth, becoming aggrieved at those times when thy losses seemingly stop and thy weight remaineth constant, remembering then that thou tookest long to acquire thine pounds, and that thy pounds must then take time for loss. 8. Thou shalt maintain a log or dairy of thine measurements, that thou mayest truly perceive the effect of they band when thine scale doth pause in it's downward progress. 9. Thou shalt join into and participate within thy local support community, for without the input, experience and love of they fellow bandsters, thou shalt have a much more difficult time in thy journey, and when thou art well upon thy road, thou shalt then likewise assist those who followest in thine footsteps that they too might be successful in their own diminishment. 10. Thou shalt beware of thine " soft calories syndrome", keeping always in thy mind that thou canst thus sabotage thine efforts and thine investment and lead thee then therefore into depression and guilt. As once stated "Just because thou canst, it meaneth not that thou shouldith".
  2. I was sleeved may 7th and am now feeling better about it. I am a baby when it comes to pain so i was not a happy caper the first 4 days. I cried a lot too. Not sure if it was the anastasia side affects (I read this can happen) or just the realization that I finally had the surgery I was working for 6 months to get. I went thru my difficult days and now.am feeling great. I'm so happy I've done it and I've lost 19 pounds since. I am on the clear liquids for a month so in 2 weeks I'll get to go to puree. My doctor does one month at a time. Liquids, puree, soft foods then regular foods. I'm don't seem to like anything sweet anymore (popsicles, jello, power aid - all sugar free of course) they seem to be too tastey so I stick to water. And I have a very hard time getting my protein liquid down. Again I am a baby, so if I can get thru it anyone can.
  3. Also sleeved on 5/5 and feeling better everyday. I am also in purée food and enjoying more variety since u can only stand to drink one shake a day . I have to remind myself to stay within the 1/4 cup serving or my tummy definitely reminds me I'm steady on the weigh loss ( down 10 lbs) since surgery day. Glad I did the preop diet because that helped me lose 7lbs before surgery. Good luck everyone!
  4. My PCP was very supportive of the lap band and never talked about by pass to me. The surgeon and her staff were all really happy that i picked the lap band. The Surgeon even told me that she would not have done by pass on me because the nurses get upset when she operates on young people ( i was 19)Overall everyone was very positive.

    low carb low fat

I eat a lot of fish lemon sole - sauteed in butter and lemon chile - burgers (just the patty 10% lean) I havent' made my staple chicken breast marinated in olive oil, lemon and oregano Veggies usually portobello mushrooms grilled. Have done baked eggplant w/ the greek garlcky yogurt.
  6. I was banded on 9/10/10 in Dallas,Tx. I am new to this journey. I had my first fill on 10/5/10. I start real food tomorrow. I am afraid I won't have any restriction. It seems as though I can eat most anything. I haven't had any problems so far. Just waiting for that restriction, getting a little frustrated. I have read it may take a week or so for restriction. Sounds strange to me, this I don't understand. You would think you would have restriction immediately or not at all. As I said, I am new at this and waiting for my next fill in 4 weeks:glare:
  7. I can't speak to the suggestion to gain 10 lbs (am 398 here) but I do know I find myself going up and down.. (consult is Dec 1). Somedays are 'bandy' (eating good food) other days are crazy bad (1/2 gallon of ice cream, a whole pizza, high carbs, etc...). I think this is just normal for me....
  8. Anyone else who did binge-eating and making every bad food choice possible prior to starting (and delaying starting) the pre-op diet? I feel disgusting and actually am getting turned off to the sweets and junk. What predicated the bingeing in recent weeks was my bariatric group telling me I might want to GAIN 10 lbs prior to surgery (to be over 200 lbs)---really crazy. Was this just to increase my medical necessity in the eyes of the insurance company?
  9. LMAO!!! I love the title. Yes my period was hell I was in so much pain I ached horribly from the waist down and it lasted 10 days. That was my first period post op
  10. Weird post... I know. My dog of 10 years is an old girl, so needless to say, she doesn't move around as much as she used to. But now, I've made it even worse for her, she's getting fat! She gets so many table scraps because I always take too much food and can't eat it all. My mother brainwashed me! She told me not to waste food and that there were starving children in China and now instead of throwing it away, my poor dog is feasting on scraps and becoming as big around as she is tall!! Poor girl has become rather.... well lets just say that she doesn't smell as good as she used to! Anyone else had a puppy dog that has been over indulged??
  11. Hello All, Today is my Two Year Bandiversary! I am down a total of 63 pounds from my all time high. I am 5 pounds away from a normal BMI (149). My weight has been stable for several months. I feel so good where I am that I haven't been strongly motivated to lose the rest of what I need to in order to get to my orginally selected goal of 140. I am maintaining my current weight with ease. I eat to my appetite level and concentrate on making good choices and not eating junk. I am hopeful that this means I will not easily gain the weight back. I am more active than I was two years ago because being more active is easier than it was. How nice is that? I've lost weight, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. I've gained size 10 clothes, self-esteem, and self-confidence. I'm not the largest person in the crowd. I don't feel as though people are looking at my plate and judging what I am eating. I've had no complications. I hope to keep it that way. Best wishes to all as we journey on to healthier selves!!
  12. I'm a may 6'er. I've lost 20lbs and feel great. I'm pain free, walking several miles a day and doing my elliptical. I don't start my puree stage until Wed when I go to my 2wk NUT class, so still full liquids. Looking very forward to eating some food! I had a large hernia repair also and was painful for the first 5 days and woke up on day 6 with markedly less pain and 2 days later practically no pain. Amazing how the body heals. The scale has been amazing to watch because I gained 10 pounds of Fluid in the hospital which was the amount I had lost on my pre op, so I can home May 8 and weighed what I had started at and lost the 20lbs in 10 days. So what are people's favorite pureed stuff to eat?

Afraid To Start Next Step.... REAL FOOD

Hey you, You have done wonderfully, 19 lbs, wow, that's great. I agree with the others about not stressing over it right now. Whether you realize it or not, you have already developed a good foothold in this journey. You have been posting and reading like crazy, and now that you have a couple of weeks under your belt being banded, you've already begun the transformation. Just go with the flow, you already know quite a few things that you won't eat, due to others also having problems with certain foods. Now is the time to learn what you can and want to eat. Your pouch is smaller than your old stomach, and as long as you eat solid foods and avoid drinking immediately after, it will begin to work for you. During this time, you will still have some restriction, but certainly not a lot and it will become less and less as the swelling continues to go down. But take this time to try foods that you would like to incoorporate into your new lifestyle, just try them in smaller portions. Eat a lot of fill food, like salads and lean meat. During this phase, try to avoid as many liquid calories as possible, let Water be your liquid of choice. That will help to eliminate calories that don't sustain you right now. You have lost weight in the past, simply try to follow what you did before to lose weight for the time being. It isn't going to be permanent, but it will buy you some time until you can start to get fills and the beloved restriction. Avoid the scales if at all possible. Don't give yourself another reason to beat yourself up or mess with your head and tell you that this isn't going to work either. It will work, I promise. I know you have it in you to be strong, but when you're running short on strength and determination, there are tons of people here willing to share some of their's with you, including me. Together we will all succeed!! (((HUGS))) Cindy

    Small sins

I think it is strange how different the post-op diets vary among surgeons. I was amazed how strict others post-op diets were. I guess I had it easy. Day 1-2 liquids clear the first and the second any liquid. Day 3-10 soft food 1 1/2 oz blenderized meat with moistener and 1 oz blended vegetable if you could fit it in after the meat. Week 2 and on 2 oz meat/protein and 1-2 vegetables as tolerated not blended. I am in no way advocating not following your doctor's orders. I am only commenting on how different the diets can be. I felt I had in incredibly talented and competent surgeon. It is interesting how conservative my surgeon is in other ways like not advocating this surgery for NSAID use while other surgeons do. I even asked him about his post-op diet during my pre-op visit because I thought it was weird as I had been reading how others were so strict and he told me he did not think it was necessary. He felt it was more important to be getting natural sources of protein in as quickly as possible. Again I want to say it is important to follow you own doctors orders. I am wondering if surgical technique plays any role in what kind of post-op diet a doctor requires. I know many others have drain tubes and stitches where I had no drain and durabond adhesive and no external stitches. Plus my surgeon does all his laproscopic procedures robotically. I am curious if that plays any role in post-op diet and healing. Maravilla, this post probably in no way helped you, sorry. I just thought it important to say how different one surgeon can be from another so we should definitely be tolerant of everyone on this board because no one diet experience will be the same and not get sucked into there being one right way to do this surgery or a post-op diet. If you are still very unhappy talk with your doctor and see how he feels about you advancing your diet. There is always a chance he might think your ready but I wouldn't decide on your own or from my or any other board members advice. Good luck even if you have to wait you'll get through it.
  15. If something (for example eating food you have to "chew, chew, chew" 10 days post op) HURTS you need to STOP doing it. You just had MAJOR SURGERY.

    Calories

Hey, just wanted to know if anyone has over 10 cc's in band but can still eat over 1200 calories a day?
  17. Sometimes people gain some weight after surgery due to IV fluids but it doesnt last. When I had my emergency surgery to have the band removed last March, I gain almost 18 lbs andja phenomenon called 3rd spacing was blowing me up like a dead fish. I wasnt eating or drinking that whole week It went away in about 10 days after I was discharged. It has alot to o with the type of IV fluids they used.

    Feeling Bad

I didn't feel better until day 8. Much to my dismay, I missed a week of work, but I'm on day 10 now and I feel like I've turned the corner. I do, however, get that same urge to burp and it feels stuck. I figured it'll find its way out eventually, all the others did.

  21. Hi Mollybrown, I can't stand the taste of the protien either. I went to my local GNC and purchased Isopure in 6 different flavors. I haven't tried it yet but the sales person said it wasn't bad but is better if kept really cold. Good luck with your pre-op diet! Day 10

This is all new to me. I am hoping by keeping this journal I will be able to stay on track. I have been banded 10 days now. Basiclly, I feel good. Usally I'm alway on the go but now I get tired very easily - have been needing naps. Incisions are 99% healed and the port area is the only place that's tender. I still get shoulder pains though. I'm able to eat now and that scares me. I am only 10 days and can eat almost normally just less of it. Does this mean soon I will eat more and more and MORE....... Today, I was at a meeting where I ate lasagna, bread and brownie. :think I feel guilty and horribe!
