  1. @ms.sss My GP wasn't sure, but based on my diet and weight issues, she figured that had to be the case. What little I did find about it mentioned that it's not unheard of in people who are of Belgian/Irish descent. Both locations are prone to famines, so what was a life saving trait is now a malignant one in their descendants. I've never found a name for it when looking either. I'm going to try Keto again for a week or two and see how I feel. My doc recommended it as a way to restart my weight loss, so we'll see how that goes. I really appreciate your input!

When did/could you smoke after surgery

I smoked weed within a week after surgery. I was fine. My doctor said as long as i felt ok it was fine for me to smoke. If you need to cough though, it hurts like hell so try hugging a pillow against your stomach.
  3. If my surgery goes through (still waiting for insurance crap to be handled), which is Monday, I was told to wait 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks after. I use MM but first off, it can mess with anesthesia, and second it can interfere with your healing (something to do with the blood vessels contracting.) It has been hard for me too, since I also use no pharma as well. Work is stressful for me so its been hard to not grab it when I need it.

Is smoking marijuana safe after surgery?

I'm pre-op, so no help to your question specifically, though I don't think there is any documented specific risk of using post-op. Just a note of caution though, it is STRONGLY recommended that you stop all use of THC in any form at least 2 weeks before surgery because it is well documented that cannabis use can interfere with the efficacy of anesthesia. Folks who use, very often need higher doses of meds to get and stay sedated. So if you aren't going to go cold turnkey at least 2 weeks in advance, you absolutely need to disclose to your surgeon and anesthesiologist when you go in, otherwise you are putting your literal life at risk. They won't care and won't report you (if not legal in your state), although they may delay your surgery depending on their pre-op requirements. But delaying and being safe is better than risking complications. Absolutely ZERO judgement, just want you to be informed and use accordingly.
  5. The "10oz per meal"...do you know how many calories these meals consists of? At 10 months, weight loss is more affected by caloric value vs volume/mass. A 10oz salad is just a fraction of the calories of a 10oz burger. If you can, try tracking your food intake and see if this is where you can make some changes. Track it for say, a week straight and you can get an idea of your average intake. Reduce if necessary. Calorie intake is *usually* the issue if a stall lasts longer than a few weeks (months?). If not, I'd probably suggest to consult a medical professional to see if you have any circumstances that pre-dispose you to being heavier. Good Luck! ❤️
  6. Hey Everyone, I hope you're doing well. Here's a bit of background on me before I get into my current dilemma, if you don't care about that, skip to the TLDR at the end. I'm a 27 year old man and I got my surgery last year. I've always been heavy (the last time I was less than 300 lbs was in elementary school) and I wanted to live a longer, happier life. I talked with my doctor and she said that Bariatric surgery was the best option for me. I went to one Bariatric clinic and was basically treated as a number, so after six months of prep and almost $1k, I left them and went to a Bariatric clinic that a family friend had had good luck with. I had better luck with them and was able to get my surgery ~ 4 months after my first visit with them(vs almost a year with the first one). My finance(then GF) and I actually got COVID three months before my surgery, though it was not horrible for us. My hospital stay was fine and my recovery went pretty well. I had issues with the liquid diet following the surgery, but after that I was fine until now. Read after the TL;DR for my current dilemma. TL;DR: I'm 10 months post-op and my weight loss has stagnated. I'm prepping ~10 oz per meal, though I usually don't finish it, and have been doing that for about a month. I do about 20-30 minutes on a peddle bike (under my desk) per day. My doctor recommended Keto for me (which I tried pre-op and lost 90+lbs, though it was terrible for me psychologically) and I started it today. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to push past the wall I'm stuck on. Thanks for any advice. Paul
  7. I tried smoking a joint the first week after surgery. I didn't wan't to take pain meds cuz it backs me up, so i figured I would try some pot and see if it would help to keep my mind off my sore tummy. Anyhoo, I hadn't smoked in a while, so of course after the first drag i had a coughing fit. Ouch the pain in my stomach from the coughing was 10000000x times worse, *sigh*. So that was the end of that. If I remember correctly, I tried again the next summer (about 8 months postop), and no issues. Though i probably would have been fine having some earlier (like when my tummy soreness was gone).
  8. Hey i just posted same question i had my surgery last week but ive been smoking for years ( weed/hash only ) my friend suggested edibles but not sure tbh cause ur stomach has to proccess the thc - i just wana smoke before i sleep abit but probably risky

    Revision surgery 9/8/2021

I had my revision surgery on 9/8, and the gas pain was insane. It took three days for it to subside. Shortly after that, I had a sharp pain near one of my incisions, which has finally started to go away as of yesterday. I have lost 13 lbs, and I feel pretty good. I plan to keep this thread updated for people who are thinking of revising.
  11. Has anyone here tested positive for Covid after surgery and suddenly stopped losing weight? I’m 5.5 months out and started having symptoms a little over a week ago, tested positive yesterday. I haven’t dropped any weight since and am actually gaining. I’m not on any medications since I am vaccinated and my symptoms aren’t severe. I’ve been consistently dropping weight up until the last week and a half. Not sure if it’s possibly inflammation from Covid that’s causing this?
  12. Hi am 52 years old had gastric bypass October 19,2018. Am almost three years out and the best decision I ever made no regrets . My heights to was 350 am now 184 pounds but i exercise and lift weight . I am happy to say I have a tool to work with because losing weight on my own I couldn’t do it I have disc problems and thyroid issues but now they remove the thyroid issues so am left with the back issues but I still keep active . I can always adjust my tool and lose more weight but I stick to fruits , vegetables , protein which Include protein shake and smoothies and my weight remains the same even through the pandemic

    Day 5 post op- struggling.

Hey - Totally normal. The goals of how much to consume in terms of liquids are very optimistic. First week, I probably couldn't get more than 25-30 OZ down for an entire day, forget anything more thick than water/broth/tea. If it makes you feel any better, when you get on the scale in a week or two, youll see your body has been having a grand ol' time eating itself - the numbers are shockingly awesome. First few days/weeks are scary. Nothing feels normal, digesting anything feels damn near impossible. It'll all settle. Weird pains will come up (not to suggest you shouldn't reach out to your doc, but dont freak) they too shall pass. Recovery takes time, and adjusting to a strange diet plan, a new digestive system, and relearning every food/drink rule that youve spent years getting accustomed to is really hard. And totally worth it - Hang in there!
  14. I am on my 2 week liquid diet, 12 days to go before surgery. I’ve been doing good so far! I’ve been smoking weed for years, as it helps me sleep and calms my anxiety. I prefer it over any pharmaceutical. I quit blunt wraps for the surgery because I am not addicted to tobacco thankfully. Because I’ve been smoking for years, I no longer have munchies. That was one of the effects as a newbie smoker, but now I don’t have them or I alternate to healthy snacks. Smoking has been helping me get through the pre op diet. As long as I have the “munchies” under control, should I be safe to smoke after the surgery? Any other bariatric stoners out there?

    September Surgeries!

I had the same exact thing happen. I’m a cash pay as well and I was postponed from Aug to Sept. I had all the same thoughts too. My surgery was last week and I’m so happy I did it and it’s over. The waiting and the liquid diet is really the hardest part. Breathe and go to your happy place.

    Facial wrinkles

in principle, the main points have already been described to you. so maybe I'll repeat myself a little. also faced such a situation, now I study all sorts of "hot" creams for wrapping. write that they increase blood circulation in the dermis, which in turn triggers the processes of renewal and saturation of the upper layers of the skin with oxygen. I think to try one of these creams for my belly and thighs. I don’t know for the face ... everyone talks about the need for cоllagen and retinоl, that they are excellent helpers in the fight against wrinkles, and they also talk about necessarily sunscreen (which I successfully forget😓), so I don’t use retinol creams or serums yet because i read tha it's bad combination retinol+sun. But my must have is orаl cоllagen pіlls I use an alginate mask all the time (I buy a large can at once on Amаzon and use it for 1-1.5 years, it is very profitable), it moisturizes the skin very well, I advise you reaed more about it futures and use it at least once a week

    lifting skin

I'm losing weight now. The first 10 kg went quickly (three weeks). Now the skin on the arms and stomach looks so-so. She's very flabby. I am training, I am on a HEALTHY diet again, because before this first 10 kg I was eating 1000 kcal. So what to do with the skin? how to do it like before losing weight - filling, elastic? maybe someone knows, creams, wraps, etc.
  18. A lot could be due to starting BMI. I only had to do 2 days clear fluids, but I do know my surgeon has patients that have to do Optifast before surgery for 2 weeks or more. So, it really depends on the patient. I had no swimming/hot tub. I couldn’t even shower for 72 hours.

    September Ops

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow of low carbing for 11 days and then three days on liquid. Anyone else eat all the stuff they love before starting the diet? Not going to lie, I made shrimp with pasta tonight! Getting nervous about the surgery now that it’s closer.

My pain is subsiding as the days go by. I still have tenderness around my incisions but it’s not unbearable. It seems that the gas I’ve had internally has caused me more pain. I had the gastric sleeve performed last week. I’ve been able to drink a few ounces of protein per day, but concerned I’m not getting enough. I can assume that’s why I still feel weak and sluggish. Other than all that…lol, I am hanging in there with a little smile.

    VSG 1st month

Yes, just stick to your program! It happens to all of us. Just make sure you are hitting your daily protein and water goals. Stalls can last days/weeks so be patient 😊

    VSG 1st month

Same. I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow, lost 25 lbs. off the bat, not a pound down the last 4 days. I started tracking everything in MyFitnessPal to see what my calories/macros look like. I'm following my clinic's plan to a T. I'm trying to be patient and not get worked up over the stall. But it is super frustrating. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

    September Ops

I’m 6 days post op and have the same problem. I haven’t been able to have more than 1 protein drink a day so far, plus my other fluids. Today i forced myself to have 2 and am currently trying to finish a third. How is your pain? Did you have a bypass or sleeve? I had the bypass. My incision locations do not hurt, injust have this annoying inner pain to the left of my naval. It shoots pain whenever I move. If I didn’t have that, I’d be ok. Todays also the first day I’ve really wanted to eat something. But I have 1 more week in phase 2.

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

Way to go!!!! That's awesome! I'm struggling with a bit of a skin infection on my shin right now and there's swelling so I don't see my 8 day stall breaking just yet. Hopefully these antibiotics kick in and my leg returns to normal so I can get back to cardio. At least I've stayed the same, so silver lining is maybe I have lost a pound or two considering the swelling has to add some weight. I will definitely check out that link you posted. Congrats again. Keep up the amazing work.
