    Hungry hell lol

Are you allowed plain yogurt? It's considered a full liquid typically. I mixed plain Greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder to have as dessert after my broth at dinner time. It was really filling (40g protein) and yummy. Helped get me though pre-op.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

@@elladvyne OMG!!! I was an ICU nurse for 20 years and would rarely (thank Goodness) get pulled to what we called "intermediate care" which sounds very much like what you described. Worked like a dog every time and never got to go to the bathroom! Are you going on an all liquid pre-op diet? Or is it a combination of liquid and lean Protein? My opinion here- I don't think an all liquid diet is safe considering your work. Perhaps 2 liquid meals followed by a lean protein meal might work. If your plan is for all liquid, please talk to your surgeon/dietitian. Post-op- How long are you taking off from work? Once you get back, keep a Water bottle handy wherever you go. Also- greek yogurt is your friend and easily portable. Good Luck!

    Disney World

If your program is similar to my own you will be on soft foods. Both WDW and Disneyland have excellent options for people who have had bariatric surgery. There is Piccolo Pete's at the Magic Kingdom. You can get refried beans or tortilla soup without the strips. They have yogurt parfaits but you have to be careful with those as they can contain quite a bit of sugar. If you have advanced to regular food they have lots of awesome options including quinoa and lean chicken meals plus salads. Lots of fresh fruit. They also offer a pomegranate lemonade made with Splenda which is 5-15 calories per serving. I love it. If you are staying at the resort each one has there own dining areas and convenience stores and many healthy options. They carry Dasani and Vitamin Water Zero in the park. I did take some protein bars to supplement. Even a few shakes. I took my pedometer and walked over 70 miles while I was there. It can be quite humid and you will be sweating so really be on your hydration. I was very happy and relieved with their options. If you happen to not feel so swell they even have medical centers at each park. It was one of the best vacations of my life. Just listen to your body. If you need to take a break then take a break. You can even pull up the menus for each quick service and dining room online and pre-plan. You will have a blast!!

  8. I have had complete confidence in this whole procedure & all the experiences of others I have read. I am 2 weeks out today, and weighed today for first time since surgery. Down 10 lbs.....really?? Very disappointed. I know with any other "diet" in the past I would have been very happy with this, I guess my expectations were a lot higher. A yogurt fast for 3 days and only liquids for 2 weeks and ten lbs is it?? Makes me concerned I have done this and will not be able to lose. Has any one else gotten this slow of start and still had a good overall loss? I have read with most people their biggest loss is the first month and then tapers off to steady. If this is my "big loss" , I'm in trouble.

  12. So our surgeon (spouse and myself ) explained that it wasn't the dinner. It was most likely something from lunch or earlier. Apparently our sleeves can get finicky and the yogurt went through but something else was lurking at the exit. Since the lurking offender is blocking the exit our saliva and water have no choice but to come back the wrong way. It can be ugly, violent and unexpected. Both of us have had this happen. Not pretty and it makes you very unhappy with your sleeve. The worst part is it's happened with foods that have gone through fine before. Hopefully you can think back to earlier meals and find the culprit.
  13. Hi OrangeAwareness. I would refrain from watching some of the you-tube videos. There seem to be a lot of negative ones out there and they could end up leaving you feeling discouraged. If you do watch some of the videos make sure they are ones that are positive. While each person has the same journey we don't all feel/taste/whatever the same after surgery. It will definitely change your life. I know it changed mine in a wonderful way. Some easy things to eat (more of a grab and go) would be: Danon light and fit yogurt mixed with a tiny bit of fruit. (I mix vanilla yogurt with cottage cheese and add fruit. you can't taste the cottage cheese at all, just the yogurt. It's high in protein) Boca burgers are pretty soft and I like to melt a piece of cheese over the top of it I like the already mixed tuna packets (the deli style ones) cheese sticks/string cheese unsweetened applesauce Right after surgery I really liked this potato leek Soup my mom made and pureed for me. It was thick and I froze it in an ice cube tray so I could just pop one out and heat that up and eat it. I unfortunately don't have the recipe but I am sure you could find one online. I also choked down Protein drinks (I haven't been able to do sweets since surgery) but they proved WAY too sweet for me. I also ate sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding. I hope this helps a little bit at least!
  14. I average between 400-575 at 4 weeks out. I've been doing a protein shake for breakfast to get a good chunk of the protein in ( isopure zero carb vanilla, 25 g mixed with 8 oz simply smart milk, 10 g..30 germs to start day..I drink half at 6 am and half around 830 ish. For lunch I have half a Greek yogurt or a slice of deli turkey and slice of cheese., I usually can't finish yogurt some have as my second snack...dinner has been 1/4 cup refried beans ( can is going to last forever) or one small bread less meatball, or egg, ham, cheese mini crustless quiches, 40 calories each made in mini muffin pan...sooo yummy
  15. Was there sugar in the yogurt? Maybe you are developing an aversion to dairy????
  16. I have my first weigh-in on Monday. According to my scale I'm down 11 lbs since my initial weigh-in (I need to lose 16 before surgery). But of course that's without clothes and first thing in the morning, so we'll see what they say. On Wednesday I went to my first of five Behavioral Skills classes. That was interesting and I feel it will be really helpful. It's been a little over two weeks since I met with the nutritionist and I go back in 2 weeks. I already feel like I've made some big changes. I'm drinking Protein shakes for Breakfast every day (the Premiere chocolate ones are quite good), I'm eating big delicious salads for lunch every day (Bolthouse Farms Ranch Yogurt Dressing? Amazing!). Last night I made a dish with quinoa. I've never even wanted to try quinoa before! And I gave up my beloved sour cream for plain Greek yogurt! I consider myself a pretty picky eater so these are pretty big changes for me already. If this is how I feel only a few weeks into the process, I really feel like this is going to be hugely successful for me. I am feeling so excited and ready.
  17. For me it's all about the carbs. Doesn't seem to matter how many calories or fat I consume – if I can stay in ketosis, the weight comes off. Very slowly now that I'm at my goal weight, but it's still inching downward. So I'd suggest that you detox from the carbs, and eat your 60-80 grams of Protein plus drink 64+ ounces of Fluid every single day. Getting 30+ minutes of exercise helps too. If you like sandwiches, eat the guts without the bread, and supplement it with a protein shake, yogurt, or some other meat if you're still hungry. Tuna and chicken salads are pretty satisfying without bread. And if you feel munchy, always chose a protein option like nuts, cheese, Jerky, meat, or Greek yogurt. I sometimes find myself going back several times for a handful of almonds, but it doesn't seem to matter, as long as I don't have any starches. No booze, fruit juices or sodas either. And avoid all sugary desserts! If you crave something that tastes sweet, sugar-free Jello, pudding, or popsicles can help with that. And I agree with the others that you should log everything that goes in your mouth for a while. If you're honest with yourself and your food log, that will help you make better choices. If you can do all these things, you stand a good chance of making your goal. Good luck! We're all behind you!!!!

    6 months and eating more

Being a sweet tooth queen. I just had to find healthy sweet treats to make for myself.I made froen yogurt with raisins, almonds, and trail mix. I also will add a bit of honey to sweeten it a little. My hardest times is of course when it is PMS time, ugh. It seems that it has gotten worse since this surgery and plus my age too, I believe. I was thinking about getting sf cake mix so that when my family have the real deal, I can enjoy my sf slice. I enjoyed baked apples and baked bananas with my yogurts too. The baked bananas are the bomb! You have to try it.

How can I get enough protein

In the beginning it is helpful to rely on protein shakes/ drinks to get to your protein goal. You may also have to add protein powder to soups, cereal, yogurt. As your tummy adjusts you will be able to acheive your goals more easily. I think I was at about 10 weeks before I could finish a whole protein drink without diluting it.

I think you are all fabulous! Each one of you is dealing with a life battle and I think you are doing an amazing job handling things. @@M3l1 easy to find bariatric friendly deserts..Just google it pumpkin Cheesecake pudding Parfaits 1 (6-ounce) container light vanilla Greek yogurt (I like Dannon Light ‘n Fit) 1 (4-serving) package sugar-free instant cheesecake pudding mix 1 1/2 cups low-fat milk 4 ounces light cream cheese 1 cup pumpkin puree 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice Can add Protein powder What are meringues anyway? They don’t have any flour. They don’t have any fat, (except if you dip in them in something like . . . dark chocolate!) Meringues are egg whites (all protein) whipped up like crazy, with added cream of tartar, salt and sugar substitute, then mounded on a baking sheet and baked . . . forever! They take about an hour and a half in your barely hot oven (225 degrees F) and then you turn your oven off and let them sit for ANOTHER hour, cooling down. It’s a crazy way to make Cookies, but the end result is nothing short of YUMMY! Your kids will love these lighter-than-air, chewy, sweet goodies, almost like cotton candy except with a heck of a lot more protein! WINNER! Print Dark Chocolate-Dipped Almond Meringues Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes Yield: 2 dozen Dark chocolate glaze: Dark Chocolate-Dipped Almond Meringues 4 large egg whites 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup spenda or stevia 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp almond extract 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa 1/2 cup 72% cacoa dark chocolate chunks (I broke up 4-5 squares of Ghirardelli Twilight Delight) Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, securing with masking tape. To Prepare Meringues: Beat egg whites with a mixer at high speed until foamy. Add cream of tartar and salt; beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar substitute, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form (do not overbeat). Gently fold in vanilla and almond extracts and cocoa. Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet. Place in preheated oven. Turn temperature to 225 degrees F and bake 1 1/2 hours or until dry. (Meringues are done when the surface is dry and meringues can be removed from paper without sticking to fingers.) Turn oven off; leave meringues in oven 1 hour or until cool and crisp. Remove from oven; carefully remove meringues from paper. Cool completely on wire rack. To prepare glaze: Place dark chocolate chunks in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50% power) 30 seconds or until melted, stirring until smooth. Dip half of each meringue in chocolate. Place on wire rack to dry. Store in an airtight container. Notes When preparing these cookies, be careful not to overbeat the egg whites; properly stiff peaks will have the consistency of marshmallow cream.
  22. In the very early stages I viewed drinking Water and getting in as much Protein as I could my "job." When I am at work it doesn't really matter whether I want to do something or not-- I do it because it's my job! I found it was easier to do when I viewed like that. Also, keep sipping, that will help. Have you tried greek yogurt? That was a life saver for me- Don't worry about starvation. That is not a problem at this point in time. The most important thing is fluids. Without that people end up in the hospital with dehydration. Protein is next and hopefully your totals will improve. Don't expect to feel hungry for awhile. If you are lucky, maybe for a long while! I was so annoyed when my hunger came roaring back at 4 weeks! Good Luck.

When were YOU allowed to go solid?

@@bangbangbarbie I am dealing with the same thing! I had surgery 03/26 I called my doctor's office afraid of moving too fast because things seem to be going too well and they very patiently told me that the guidelines were just that, guidelines. They said there were mainly in place because many people can run into issues with food getting stuck, creating feelings of discomfort that can lead to them not getting in proper nutrition for the rest of the day. I was told that so long as I gradually introduce new foods, and chew them very well, I can progress at whatever pace my body accepts. They said the stages they have (liquid, puree, soft food, 'normal' food) is in place not only to reduce blockage but also to align with how our innards are healing (i.e. they can tolerate soft cooked veggies before our pouches can handle raw carrots), but as we all heal at different rates our abilities to tolerate things also varies. I'd also been afraid of eating too much and stretching my pouch so had limited myself to 1/4 cup at each meal, I was again reassured today that eating 1/2 cup in a sitting would not cause me harm but that I may find it easier to eat 1/2 cup of yogurt than I would 1/2 cup of chicken and veggies! Fair point I reckoned. I was really glad to hear back from them because I felt ready to progress to the next stage ( soft food: eating things like chicken) last Friday, only two days after finishing my liquid diet but was afraid too.... Needless to say that didn't stop me from trying lovely tender chicken over the weekend, never did I think I'd enjoy plain chicken so much!! Let's embrace the smooth sailing!
  24. Hi everyone! I had my surgery one week ago. My surgeon advanced my diet to eggs, cheese and yogurt. Does anybody know if i can also eat creamy soups? Thank you #16lbs&counting

    Last Supper

I think every pre-op diet is a little different. Mine was only clear liquids and the 4 protein shakes per day. My coworker's husband had surgery a month before me from the same doctor and he was able to have low fat yogurt, cottage cheese and certain veggies in addition to the liquids. I stuck with the liquid diet and lost 13lbs before my surgery. Check with your dietician.
