  1. Yes I regret it and I wished I have never done it, I lost weight , I am thin but I'm not healthy. 3 years post op gbp and I'm battling what I suspect reactive hypoglycemia and dumping and vitamin issues. I am a wreck, I would advice nobody to get the surgery.
  2. I am feeling sick all the time now. I thought this was supposed to get better as more time goes by? I am 9 months out and for the past month or so I feel completely nauseous most of the time. I have been trying to eat a little bit more so I don't lose anymore weight but feeling sick isn't allowing it. I started taking Miralax every day per my docs orders and think that this may be the cause of it? I had to cut back to every other day because it was making me have diarrhea. Now even though I am doing it every other day, I still have diarrhea and a bad belly ache/cramps every day. I called the docs office and they said to keep doing what I am doing and they will see what is going on when I have my colonoscopy. Well that isn't for another month. I used to drink Peppermint tea and that would help but now its not helping.

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

...Also, don't forget about some exercise to help things firm up a bit (and stay that way-ish). The weeks/months immediately after weight loss phase I thought I was pretty flappy/gaunt/saggy pretty much everywhere. The plastic surgery 6-7 months into maintenance helped alot of course, but I also think the regular exercise I was doing during that time was also a factor. Case in point: my inner thighs were much firmer-looking around 3-4 months into maintenance, but now, after several months of minimal exercise, I am alot flappier there again. Sigh. Although I am about 3-4 lbs less than what I was after plastics 1.5 years ago, so that may also be a factor?? *shrugs*

    Purée and stall?

This is so frustrating for me right now. I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 12lbs. And most of that was my first week after surgery. I lost 38 before surgery. I am following my diet and now exercising daily. At what point should I be concerned or consult my nutrition team? Should note, this was a revision RNY which my doctor said I might not have a great weight loss from.

    Surgery date set

I have been preparing for surgery since January, and my surgery won't be until July or August. Although waiting has been really hard, I will say that I've taken the time to start eating the types of foods I will need to eat for the long term after surgery - not the post-op liquid diet, but the long term healthy diet of lower carbs, higher protein, lots of veggies, low sugar. Some people have food funerals and gain weight prior to surgery, but I am working really hard to lose weight and it's been great for me so far; I'm realizing that it's not that hard. The only time I crave junk is when I see TV commercials, and I rarely watch TV, so it's not really an issue. Any weight I lose now is weight I don't have to lose after surgery!
  6. I called the surgery center at the end of January and I'm being told I will have my surgery end of July or August... I have the last insurance required nutrition class June 4th, and I will still need to see my PCP, and I'm not sure exactly when I'll have a date. It's really been slooooowwwww. But I've taken the time to lose some weight, so that's good!
  7. I'm sorry this happened. I hope you don't get denied for this! I would just say to be extremely dedicated to tracking every day and eating really "clean" through your next weigh in so you can show them you can lose all the weight you gained and more. I find I'm less hungry when I eat high protein/low carb and lots of veggies and that's how I've lost weight as I prepare for surgery. I also haven't been weighed yet at the office due to COVID so I don't know how their scale is different than mine, but I know that will affect it because I won't be weighing in first thing in the morning completely naked! I hope it works out for you!!!
  8. I'm possibly looking at revision from sleeve to RNY. Weight regain hasn't been too bad, but GERD and hiatal hernia are the reasons. I'm trying to find an upside besides not needing a prescription PPI and Tums for the rest of my life.....what about dumping. Sweets are a struggle with me. I can do it, but it isn't easy. Does anybody think it is a GOOD thing, that the fear of dumping is a deterrent? I think it would be but I'd love to hear from others that have actually had RNY. Thanks y'all.
  9. Yeah, I don't have an option to not take my pills after surgery; the surgeon said just not to take a few that might be affected by the surgery, but I've actually already stopped those for other reasons. I was taking a medication for nightmares that is actually a blood pressure medication and he said I would need to stop that for a bit, but I decided to see what it was like to stop taking it, and I haven't noticed any difference in my nightmares (blood pressure has always been fine). I was also taking metformin for weight loss (still don't have diabetes) and he said I would need to stop taking that, but my doctor never refilled my script for that, so I haven't been on that for a while anyway. I'm losing weight now and I wasn't when I was on it.

    Gastric Sleeve

i was the same i gained 6 stone due to steroids for a condition i have but was put on immune suppressants as i could no longer tolerate the steroids. I thought i would of lost my weight after that but i didn’t and i have been pre menopause since age 33 with my condition affecting my pituitary and hypothalamus, so i had RNY bypass in january 2021, iv lost 3 stone so far but slowed down and been at a stall for over 3 weeks now. i have been getting pain and rang my team and they suggested it could be trapped wind so try something for that, and earlier on after surgery my bowel habits were not regular but once you start gradually eating more proper food it helps. and a few times the colour of mine were really light nearly white but this got better after i was eating proper foods. Hope this helps. 😁
  11. Hello friends! I'm feeling a bit devastated this morning. I just went to my fifth of six required appointments for my insurance. I had gained four pounds 😭. I am two days from "that time of the month" and am SUPER bloated. I can go up 7-10lbs this week of the month easily due to bloat. My previous few appts had been phone visits, so this is my first recorded weight in the office since Feb. I asked the doctor if she thinks I will get denied by insurance. She said maybe. She said she does see them take into account the final weigh in and compare it to the first, but they could deny me for this one weigh-in. She did note that my weight on my scale at home was lower than theirs and I was bloated. She said she couldn't make any promises. Don't get me wrong, I do blame myself 100% for this. I am just frustrated because I have been making positive changes. I have been being careful about not overeating and choosing healthier foods, I walk 15-30 mins each day and have been tracking about half the time (I need to work on this). I've been cooking healthier dishes, swapped to a smaller plate and utensils, dropped almost all of the sugar out of my diet, but the scale just doesn't like to move for me unless I go to extreme measures. This has always been the case for me. I have been making food and non-food changes to set myself up for success - ex. - I recently changed jobs to take a less stressful position because I recognized my previous job was allowing no time to think/act on healthier changes (was working 60 r weeks). I am in the second week of this new job. So, I am just feeling incredibly disappointed in myself and really sad that all of this work the last five months may come down to these stupid four pounds. Again, I own it - I'm not blaming anyone but myself. This is just hard. And it SUCKS. So, I've cried my eyeballs out and now am trying to move forward and make this last month really count. I am determined to drop 10-15lbs before my next appt. Has anyone else gone through this? I have Premera BCBS through Amazon. I am in NC. If my end weight is lower than the first do you think I will get denied? Come hell or high water I WILL weigh less next month! Thanks for listening ❤️

    Calorie & carb intake?

some plans are low carb, some are ultra-low carb, others really don't focus on carbs at all (like mine). I never counted carbs - I just had to be sure mine were the healthy kind (fruit, vegetables, whole grains). And yes - weight loss slows down quite a bit after the first couple of months - but stick with the program. It took me 20 months to lose all my weight, but it's G-O-N-E!

    Weight loss stall

This is your first stall, possibly first of many. No worries. I found drinking my protein helps while also adding to my hydration needs (I like Premier shakes). My struggle still (8 months out) is staying hydrated which is key to weight loss and good health. Keep going! Sent from my SM-N970F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight loss stall

Thank you for your advice for Cajunincheesetown. It has taught me a thing or two. I certainly didn't know about the daily protein requirements correlating to body weight. I will remember that when I am on the other side which will be next Monday!

    Gastric Sleeve

Thank you for sharing your story but as my VSG doesn't take place until 31st May I can't offer you any personal insight on bowel habits or pains in the chest. From what I have read, constipation can be VERY common due to the fact that the consumption of food is drastically reduced. Could the pains in your chest be reflux or even a feeling of fullness that is causing some pain? I'm sure that other more seasoned sleavers will have more ideas for you. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling hungry as this is something I am seriously hoping goes away or largely diminshes, for me. I would love to know why you think your weight has increased so quickly as this has happened to me too. For me, I feel it is to do with hormones (menopause) as I am 56. Keep up the positive attitude!
  16. Hi, I have cvs, have had it around 5 years now. I just found out from my friend that our insurance might cover weight loss surgery for me. I started gaining weight before I got cvs, but now its been more the last couple of years. I sometimes blame medication, but I started gaining before I started taking preventative medication for cvs. I have episodes way less because of medication, and I added the mito cocktail to my regimen(vitamins) and now even less episodes. Im afraid to change anything that might make me sick again. I haven't spoken to a dr yet, bit just doing research on it. I also noticed in some of my cvs support groups that there are a few who've had weight loss surgery and are way worse, or they didn't have cvs until after surgery. Please any info or insight would be appreciated.
  17. So 5/18/21 was my gastric sleeve surgery. Just 6 years ago I was at my goal weight of 141. In 6 year I reached 267. The biggest I’ve ever been. in the past was 217, (31 years ago after the birth of my second daughter) I do believe I know the reason for so much weight gain in six years. If anyone is interested I’ll share later to compare stories. Anyway the first couple of days weren’t bad. I felt more pain then anything. But for three days now I’ve been hungry but have no intentions of not eating right. For now I’ve learned to stay out of the kitchen and my daughter is giving great support and encouragement. If anyone could share with me about bowel habits and changes, colors, pain in the middle chest, or any other types of changes I’d appreciate it.

    Weight loss stall

Stalls are very common along the way. They’re just your body playing catch up. They can last 1 to 3 weeks but you will start to lose again. Yes, definitely increase your protein intake. I was told 60g too though some are told 70. I still aim to eat 60g at two years out. (Recommended daily intake for an adult is .8g protein per kg of weight in the US. It’s 1g per kg in Australia.)
  20. Have you had the revision? If so, what do you think so far? I'm in the same boat you were. Great weight loss, surgery was in 2010, but the GERD has gotten progressively worse. Non-cardiac chest pain, trouble swallowing sometimes, I'm on a prescription PPI and it was helping but I'm back to eating Tums again. When I finally decided to see a doctor I was eating 8 -10 Tums every day. I had no idea it was a bad thing until I read it somewhere!!! I suspect the appointment with the bariatric surgeon next month will give me an idea of what the solution is. I was self pay when I had sleeve surgery. I hope Anthem BCBS will approve and cover whatever he thinks I should do.

    Calorie & carb intake?

Your weight loss does start to slow as you get closer to your goal. Many of us find the last pound or two the hardest & slowest to lose - can take weeks. It’s because your caloric intake is getting closer to what your body needs to burn to function so closer to your maintenance point. I was never given calorie goals or told how many carbs I should have either. I was told portion sizes, to avoid carbs where possible & definitely no high processed carbs. Besides fruit & vegetables my carbs from less obvious sources like yoghurt or cheese, etc. The only obvious source of carbs were rolled oats (one serve lasted me 2 or 3 days so only about 10g each time I ate them). If you’re worried, ask your dietician/nutritionalist to review your diet.

    Calorie & carb intake?

I would ask your nutritionist. At 4 months out my nutritionist had me on a 600-800 calorie and 60-80 carb diet plan. But every person is different and so is their plan. Also, my weight loss slowed after 3 months. The first three months I lost fast. Then the following three months I averaged 8 pounds a month. The next 5 months following that I averaged 5 pounds a month. My average lately is about 3 pounds a month. I'm 16 months out now so my diet plan is 900-1200 calories and 80-150 carbs per day (I try to keep my carb intake around 90 and my calories no higher than 1000 (though some days it HAS gone close to 1200). Also, my daily sodium allowance is 1200mg, but I try and get under 900mg because I retain water like CRAZY!

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

Once your weight settles things may shift and even out (a little bit) so don’t count anything out yet ❤️
  24. 4 months post op as of May 20th. I have spoke with my doctor on calorie intake, but I’m curious what others are/where consuming at this time. Especially carbs, my doctor doesn’t like to give me a particular amounts because she says it depends are where they are coming from. For example she says I shouldn’t be too focused on the carbs that come from fruit which I understand but would still like to know a general amount. I also feel like my weight loss is starting to slow down. Lol I’m constantly stressing myself out about all of this.

    7 days out and struggling

I'm so sorry your frustrated. You are only a week out from major surgery, Our bodies don't react predictably from that a lot of the time. Just be patient and follow your plan and the weight will come off. In terms of your diet, of course listen to your team. I can tell you that early out I was "eating" only 1-2 oz very soft foods (like greek yogurt) and stuffed from that very small amount and waited 30-60 minutes after to drink fluids. Outside of those windows, I really, really focused on fluids. Small sips every couple of minutes as it was the only way to drink enough. It took a lot of effort to get them in until I could slowly drink more at one time.
