    My First Nsv!

Ok so its really kinda funny, i was at my daughters softball game, and i was holding a bunch of stuff walking to my car when........... my underwear fell off inside my pants! ROTFL, you couldnt see that they sliped down, but i had a big grin on my face lol
  2. Well at the last day of the the month I can look back and see all the changes that have happened so far. My pre-op diet began....I only lost 4 pounds but a loss is a loss. I had my lap band placed on the 12th along with the hiatal hernia repair. Gas pain was really the worse but thank goodness I don't have to worry about it now. I can eat like a normal person but not really- if someone would have asked me if I ate a lot before I would have said no not really. *Sigh* Now I understand and accept that I was an over eater, a snacker, and all those things that damn weight loss and getting on the road to being healthier. This month I have learned acceptance. I accept how I was and I know I can accept the changes that are going to be. 12 years and 2 deployments in the Army has already taught me to adapt but to accept things, that is different. I accept that proof for me, so far, has been in the numbers. I am down 16.4 pounds, almost 1 pound a day since surgery, minus my 4 pound pre op diet. I do have a NSV also, my wedding rings spin around my finger...:-) I just had them sized up in August and they were still tight so I will be happy to get them sized down again, hopefully this August! Looking forward to next month-hitting the gym and my first fill but my journey's start is something I will always remember, and I can accept that too.

    NSVs!

Four summers ago I was told by the "lady" sitting next to me on an international flight from Germany that "People like you should have to buy two seats because you're so fat" (don't worry, I had some choice words for her, too!). So, my NSV this summer was a real delight: flying coach and having PLENTY of room!

    Exciting NSV

This is a fun one. I rushed home from work today and had some errands to run and quickly changed out of my suit into some brown cords. While I am running my errands I was like wow... these are so baggy on me and also seem like they are bootcut? Well, it turns out that I had some plus sized brown cords that were elastic waist and too tight last winter (I thought I was putting these on) and I had some bootcut gap regular sized non-elastic waisted cords which were also brown but I had forgotten about.. when I got home I realized that I had put the much, much smaller ones on and they were baggy on me!

    I have a new job!

WOW, what an awesome NSV as well as a fantastic lifestyle change. This will also help you in your goals of staying healthy, plus you get to pass on your knowledge to kids who really need it. I think it's wonderful!!

    I luv my sleeve

Those are some great NSVs, Size 7!
  7. This one is a little different. It comes from the inside. I was making up a little bowl of nachos with some veggie chips as an experiment, and I was chopping up my cheese and had cut a bit off the main block and thought "This wont be enough, but I'll get more after I chop this up". Well, I was chopping up my cheese and it dawned on me. I had too much. AND SO I PUT IT BACK. There was a time when I would have said "oh well, extra gooey nachos". Anyway, it sounds kind of silly now that I'm typing it out, but it made me happy at the time, so I'm sharing. I'm waiting for the NSV's where someone says something, or I'm able to do something physically that I haven't done in a while, but I think mental growth NSV's are good too.
  8. Now ... I know what you are thinking ... Did MINI lose more weight? Nope ... in fact I am gaining it (not on me, but keep reading to find out what I mean). So, why the NSV? Because it is a baby!!!!!! We are in the whirlwind process of adopting a newborn baby boy. I have wanted to adopt for years, but it never seemed to work out. Well, the Lord provides in very mysterious ways and suddenly we are adopting and have less than 3 weeks until his due date. We are so excited!!!! So, why is this a NSV? Because even though I will be an older mom (in my 40's), I probably have more strength and vitality than I did with my pregnancy 10 years ago. I'm sure there will be a lot of late nights & being worn out, but I know I am in much better physical shape and can keep up with this little guy. I'll share again when he is here!
  9. So today I was able to put on my wedding rings and not force them on! I haven’t worn them in almost a year because they became too tight. Going to try and sleep in them tonight.
  10. I thought I would post a litlle about where I am at, 3 months after surgery. First off I still Love my band and have I do not have any regrets. My surgery date was February 16th, 2012. My starting weight was 232lbs. Since surgery I have lost 38lbs. WooHoo! It feels amazing and its starting to look amazing too! Along with that victory I have had those amazing Non scale victories that just make this whole process worth it. One of my NSV's was Shopping in the Juniors section and purchasing a size 13! (now they are loose 11 here I come ) As for my Lapband, I believe i have a 10cc LapBand, i am currently filled to 6cc. I have had two fills so far and have just experienced what restriction feels like. I am still getting used to what foods work for me and what do not. So far this seems to be a new process each fill. I feel that the Lap Band has been a success so far for me because I have changed my life style completely, I realize this is forever, I do not deprive myself like I am on one of my old hardcore diets. I eat healthy as a lifestyle now, not a 4 week diet. When I am craving something that is higher in calories than normal I will allow myself a bite if it is something my band will even allow and I stop there and move on with my life. My biggest motivator is knowing that these 38lbs are not coming back and that this is just the beginning! I know this website can be full of issues which we all run into at some point or another, but I just wanted to post my progress so far because nothing motivates me more than reading others stories and learning how they are living with the lap band.
  11. I've been here for a while, and I still don't know what a NSV is. :phanvan

    My VSG Play-by-Play

Update: Getting much easier to deal with. My energy levels are coming back though I’m still as weak as a newborn kitten. Gas pains got a lot better, especially once I finally had a BM. I think it was backing up in there—take your Dulcolax or Miralax or milk of magnesia religiously! I do get grinding hunger pangs that feel like my stomach is literally twisting on itself. I made some protein jello (big box of orange sugar free Jello plus half a scoop of vanilla whey protein = creamsicle) for when I can’t handle the pains. They pass quickly but are debilitating. 8 cal of protein jello and I can sort of stave them off. I walk one minute every 15 minutes plus 5k a day which takes about 40-45 minutes. I’ll start running once I feel like I can sweat safely. Scale victory: down 9.6 lbs. in three days. NSV: Had to size down in shorts and throw out unders that are too big. Also my BP went from 145/85 with two meds a day before surgery to 123/68 with one med three days out.

    Non-scale Victories!

Please tell us about your favorite, newest, or most memorable non-scale victory! We have many little victories in the war on obesity and I think it is important to recognize as many of them as we can to sustain us when we get in a rut. That's where I am, stuck in a rut! I am trying to remember some of my NSVs to sustain me trough this, but it sure helps to hear from you guys too. Often times I can read them and go "Oh yeah, I can do that now too!". It really does help me and hopefully it will help others too. So let's hear them!
  17. Love it! My bras don't fit. I love pretty bras. Even overweight/obese I had a rainbow of them. (I have weird obsession with wearing a bra that matches my shirt) I love the Cacique bras for the support and lift, and have dozens of them. My DH jokes that I have "bra Christmas trees" because I hang numerous ones from one strap onto a clothes hanger, lol. I have a hanger in the laundry room just to air dry them. I even hang them in the closet because they took too much room in a drawer : ( When we lost my son I literally gained so much, so fast, that I had to get those bra extenders. About 20lbs down I was able to stop using those... then I lost 20lbs more and was having to use the last/tightest hooks. I realized today that my bras are all too big around! One of the measurements I took to start was my ribcage (right at the bra band level) and it has gone from 44 in to 36.5 in! My bras don't fit at all! This is a great NSV for me!

    NSV

@Dub I am with you on now having to dry the clothes in the dryer ... trying to shrink them up so I don't have to buy new ones so often ! LOVE that feeling! AMEN on the knee pain ... I'm bone on bone and should have replacements ... but because of lymphedema the surgeon said I had to loose weight first because he couldn't manipulate my knees enough to do the surgery ... BUT ... 90 lbs today! So I'm sure replacements aren't too far in my future Congrats on your NSV's !!!!!! Keep celebrating!

    NSV

@@Dub - that's a good one (knee pain). I have noticed mine isn't as bad either For us girls - - how about hooking the bra to the closest set of eyes (tighter)! I am rather chesty and the (WLS & NSV) has helped with shoulder pain.
  20. In a heartbeat. I am about 120 lbs down from my heaviest and 85 of that due to the band and I have gone from a 54-56 inch waist to a 38-40. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 26 and now at 30, I am free of all my meds and insulin. I no longer have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I was taking up to 5 pills and 3 shots of insulin a day. I am at a point where my goal weight is in sight and I couldn't feel better. I think I had read a post above that someone was having frustrations with the changes that come along with the band. To that I can say that measuring food and remembering to chew and take small bites is so worth it since the alternative would be me still eating 5 (or more) double cheeseburgers from the dollar menu at one time and feeling like a complete failure. I was actually thinking the other day while clothes shopping (at a regular store since I don't have to go to the big boy store anymore) that I couldn't remember the last time I got tired from just walking around. Or being drenched in sweat from just moving around, or feeling self conscious about my weight on a date, or being embarrassed about needing a seatbelt extender on a flight, or feeling uncomfortable in my own skin.... the list goes on and on, but I think you get the point. NSVs are now a part of my life and FAR outweigh any frustrations or changes caused by my band. During the clothes shopping trip that I mentioned above, I tried on a large size shirt. When it actually fit, I literally had to sit down in the fitting room and collect myself I was so happy. I was 10 the last time I fit into anything in the large size. The band has helped me take control of something that was pretty much killing me. In 2008 when I was admitted to the hospital after I collapsed at work, the doctor told me that I was diabetic and not only that, but I had severe diabetic ketoacidosis too. I had no idea I was diabetic and thought I just had the flu. It was so bad that the team of doctors figured that my organs were hours away from shutting down. I was going to leave work early and go home to take a nap. If that had happened the doctors thought I might not have woken up. I remember being hooked up to every machine imaginable and then being told it was a good idea if I saw someone to help me put my affairs in order "just in case". I was in the hospital for 9 days and they were THE scariest days of my life. It was a more extreme wakeup call than most people get, but I honestly don't think I could have come this far without my band. I feel lucky to have been given the opportunity to have it. I consider it the best gift I have ever given myself.
  21. I was in bed, I flipped over on my back, I had had to have an unfill earlier in the day and was kind of depressed. My arm slid across my upper stomach, I though G*D D*mn it, the port has flipped and is sticking out. Now what am I going to do? I felt around to see if I could feel how bad it was and suddenly realized that they were my ribs that I was feeling. I cannot believe it, I have felt them like that in years. What a great way to end a terrible day!!!

    NSV

Well......I'm early into this but some of the NSV's are starting. *Having to use the clothes drier for all my clothes. *Going to a new set of holes on my belt every few days. *Knee pain improving greatly.
  23. Congratulations Catherine! You are doing great. Keep up the good work. I wanted to share one of my NSV's. For years I have gone with my sisters (who are a size 3/4 and a size 8/10) to Victoria's Secret and watched them shop while I looked at lip gloss and shimmer body powder. I finally got down to a size that I could order a bra and panties. And the bra was actually to big and I had to return it. The panties fit perfectly! WOOHOO! I returned the bra and using my new pretty pink angel credit card (LOL) I ordered several more pair of panties and 3 new bras! Oh yeah... and two tubes of lip gloss... hehehhehe

    Non-scale Victories!

GREAT nsv's, everyone!! I am only two weeks out but my nsv is that I already feel more energetic!
  25. Every Tuesday I go to P.F. Changs Happy Hour to get steamed dumplings. (I peel off the wrapper) The bartender there is absolutely adorable. Usually it's pretty busy but today it was absolutely dead. We were discussing the fact that I work for a major diet company as a weight loss consultant (ultimate irony, I know) He then told me that he thinks that I am a great role model for my clients. He said he thinks I have a perfect body and that I'm so beautiful and blah blah blah. I don't care if he was just saying that to get a tip I was skipping all over the place. So happy!!
