    First time I weighed myself

Today I started to weigh myself it has been 10 days since my surgery I started at a weight of 285 and am down to 267. Yay some weight loss. I was almost afraid to weigh myself on the scale but now i am very glad that i did. I decided that i will make it a weekly thing. only about 97 pounds to go. I decided this weekend I would join the gym and start cardio 3 times a week and work myself up to an hour. What does everyone think?

    Here we go again

My daughter had gastric bypass surgery done 3 years ago, and although she has lost 100 lbs. she is not feeling good most of the time. If she isn't pooping she is throwing up. She says she wouldn't do it again even for the weight loss. It is an extremely invasive surgery where they cut the intestines and a lot of things can go wrong. Lap banding is minimally invasive and much, much safer, but in the long run it can cost a lot of money for insurance companies because of the costs of the fills after the surgery and the follow-ups. My daughter only had to follow-up twice in a whole year. I am never going to get gastric bypass. My dr. vetoed it right off the bat because the danger, but completely approves of lap banding. Don't let insurance talk you into something you may regret and can never, ever change for your whole life. If you are unhappy with the banding you always know deep down it is reversible. This perogative does not exist for gastric bypass patients. They are stuck with the consequences for life. My daughter is so affected by this she has been depressed for 3 years. Anyway don't give in.

    Am i wrong??

I wouldn't make it a habit but as long as it went down and you didn't have any issues...don't worry about it. I screwed up on post fill diet last week. I know that they have the diet progression so that your stomach heals but the progression is so different from surgeon to surgeon. I would stick with mushy foods until you get the okay from your surgeon to move on.
  4. Thank you for the response! How do you feel? I notice you just had surgery a week ago.

SOME MORE POST OP QUESTIONS. HOW DO YOU COPE?

Hello, now this will be my experience. 1. It was very hard to get the calories in. The main thing was to stay hydrated and try to push the Protein shakes. I had little appetite and had some nausea. Make sure to sip sip and sip. 2. At 2 months out, I can sleep on my tummy. 3. The Protein drinks kept me full and with the nausea, I had no desire to eat. 4.Head hunger to me is when I am looking at. recipe videos and I get hungry. Other than that, its real hunger over here lol. I am set to eat every 2 hours. I stop drinking my Water 10-30 minutes before I eat. 5. My go to foods/liquids are yogurt,Protein Shakes or bars. I am still depending on the protein drinks. There are plenty of people that can help. Keep the questions coming. Later!

    1 Week post op

Congrats on your great recovery! I hope I'm like u in a few weeks
  8. Alright fellow sleevers I'm ready for you to chime in your thoughts below on my VSG story. November 7th I started my liquid diet at 198.6 pounds. On November 14th the day of my VSG I weighed in at 190.6 so I'd lost 8 pounds in 1 week!!! Wahoooo!!! Had the surgery that morning out in Dallas, TX. Came back home to ATL, GA on Friday morning. On the following Tuesday (the one right before Thanksgiving) on November 22nd, I weighed in. I was now down to 177.6. Great Job for me! 21 pounds exactly. But heres where it gets very discouraging. I HAVE NOT and I REPEAT HAVE NOT lost any more weight since that day November 22nd!!!!! Had my first Doctor Consult with my surgeon on Monday January 2nd and still weighed in at 177.6. He was not happy with my weightloss either. He said I should have lost way more than 13 pounds since the surgery. He told me to cut out the Protein shakes/smoothies and just do my 3 tiny small meals a day. I am now doing hard core cardio workouts which is a bootcamp class 3 days a week and hitting the gym to do an hour long class 2 other days. So I am getting in 5 days of damn good workouts. I am so sad b/c today was my day to weigh in and it said 178.6!!!! WTF is going on with my body? Why has it let me down and have me regretting even shelling out $15000 for this surgery???? I am so lost and confused b/c I'm getting my Water in, eating my small meals and averaging about 600-800 calories a day like he said. Any thoughts or suggestions????? Confused, Amber

    One Year Out

I'm 8 mos out and eat 6-8 0z at a time depending on what the food is. Sometimes it's less than that. I can't drink much w meals.... Maybe a few sips. I wouldn't stress about ur 3 oz. Because ur sleeve might have been made smaller than mine. I was told and have read that it's normal to expand a couple of oz. But I don't over eat in fear of stretching. I started at 277 and weigh 175. I would like to lose another 10 or 15 then maintain. Sounds like ur doing great.
  10. It has been a long awesome journey...The surgery has already changed my life in so many ways...Last year I was 377 lbs for my first visit with my surgeon now I am about 250 I feel so different its amazing...I have energy, I feel healthy and my way of life is just different...I can walk up stairs without being winded i can walk around the mall and stores with no problem. I went from a 4-5x shirt to a XL...My pants went from 54 to 40-42...I want to lose another 50-60 lbs...It has slowed a low my weight lost but I am happy with my progress! If you are thinking of getting it and have doubts do not hesitate...food is not as satisfying as the feeling of a new life! It was all worth it... The only down side would be the amount of skin I already have...I am not going to stress it I will deal with next summer...it still wouldn't change my decision... I am going to post some pictures soon as well

    Getting back to Work

I took 3 weeks since my job is go go go on your feet most of the day and after 2 weeks I was NOT ready for that yet.
  12. Thanks guys.......when I had to crush them the first month following surgery I just didnt take most of my meds. Pudding and crushed pills were nasty. I did not try layering them in applesauce good idea! As I was typing my first post it dawned on me to split my pills and take half in the morning and half at night ( I have 8 prescribed pills and the 4 vitamins) so I have been taking 6 and 6 instead of 4 and 8 and while it has only been 3 days it is working better.

    Goals

I have made goals for myself to keep me motivated throughout this process. My nutritionist has given me a 3 month, 6 month and one year goal but I also made some mini goals in between. I am looking for suggestions on the rewards. Going out to a nice dinner is no longer a great reward lol. I also don’t want to buy too many new clothes until I get closer to my goal weight. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Today I hit my first goal and my reward is a spa day. Can’t wait to schedule it!
  15. Catwoman7: Oh I've no doubt I was building it up, mostly because the idea of having something put down my throat while sedated. I have THE most sensitive gag reflex, so the mere thought makes me feel panicky. It's why I would no-way no-how be able to get a gastric balloon. Sorry to hear you got saddled with two strictures! lizonaplane: My surgeon said it should get better in a week, as I'm on a double dose of 40mg Salpraz this first week to really zap it. If it's not better in a week, I have to go back as it may then be something else. Regardless I have to stay on the medication for six months. Shoppgirl: Thank you! If it drags on I may be less zen about it, but for now I can roll with it. As you said, it could have been worse!

    Post surgery

I was diagnosed by a blood test, but not after a biopsy. I was sleeved on 9/26. My surgeon said that it would resolve in 3 - 4 months after surgery.

    Newbie

You will probably need a sleep study, EGD, and psych appt for sure as well as medically supervised weight loss classes. But I know my doctor said that some preoperative appts had to be within 6 mos or 3 mos of surgery date. So wait on psych evaluation. But get a sleep study scheduled asap bc this takes the longest.
  18. K, so I'm wondering if anyone out here has figured out or decided that tracking your food causes too much anxiety or stress for yourself. I've been obsessive about it for years and had a revelation last night and this morning. I'm a control kind of girl. I feel stuck where I'm at, and I know it's more of a mental barrier. So my solution seems to stop tracking it ALL. Just eat until I feel satisfied and focus on Protein first. It's scary for me to think about tho. It's also super exciting to imagine the freedom associated with zero tracking...just listening to my tiny tummy. Anyone else deal with anything similar? I see my therapist monthly, but don't see her for 2 more weeks...which is why I'm bearing my soul to you all here. Thanks guys!

    Lap Band Abroad

Don't know if anyone can help????? Had my Inamed Lap Band System 3 weeks ago IN GERMANY and the Doc thought they had someone to do my fills here in Arizona. Turns out they are having a lot of trouble so I am looking on my own. Anyone know if there are any docs in the states that will do adjustments on me. I would think that if they can do fills on post-ops from Mexico they could do it on me with the proper post-op reports/info. I will check with docs found in the forum but wondered if anyone else has experienced this. ANYONE HELP!! :omg: Celeste Banded 03/01/06
  20. No eggs it is alot of work for your sleeve right now most wait for 6 weeks for eggs.
  21. You are not failing. The surgery will not have made a major impact on your hunger at this point. The surgery is just the first part of a process. The easiest way to stick to the diet at this point is to remember what you just went through and why and also remember that it is not like previous diets, it has an end. You won't be on liquids for ever. At this stage sticking to the type of foods you have been told to eat is more important than focussing on losing weight. So if you are hungry feel free to eat/drink more of the foods that are allowed as per your Dr but do not be tempted to eat foods that you should not be eating for a couple of weeks. You need to let the band heal into place properly and eating ahead of your diet can affect that.
  22. FITINDEX smart scale here, and I have the smart tape measure that goes with it too. I love it. It underestimates my body fat by about 3%.

    struggling

I didn't worry about getting in Protein in the first two weeks. On full liquids, I ate greek yogurt because it's high in protein. I couldn't do the Protein shakes. At around two weeks I started drinking some RTD Muscle Milk Light but mostly focused on my 1/4 to 1/3 cup of pureed foods. I have a desk job an went back to work on Day 7. Hang in there, you'll be fine.
