    The Six Month March

And I question the decision daily; Just this past Friday (7/20/2018) my mother came over to watch a movie with the family. She brought MceeDees for everyone except me, I had a home made grilled chicken chef salad. Any way, my mother, who is a 10-year veteran of gastric by-pass, managed to finish only half of a small burger, and maybe 1/3 of the medium fry. 20-minutes into the movie, she starts to drop off to sleep... she has a bit of narcolepsy. Suddenly she wakes up, apologizes for falling asleep, and then begins to take a sip of water... she caps the bottle, just before her eyes go wide, and all of the color drains from her face... a very eerie sight to see. She starts fanning herself and chanting "Do not pass out, do not pass out..." I managed to get her a 5-gallon bucket just in time for her bring back up the water she just drank. No food thankfully, just the water. Apparently, she has these episodes a couple times a week... sometimes she still passes out, even after expelling the "what-ever-she-ate-or-drank" She was quite embarrassed, but we all handled it well without panicking. Saturday my wife had a heart to heart with me, pleading her case again that she does not want me having the surgery, if I have the possibility of going through the same stuff myself... I told her, that until I get used to the "new me" I will probably have my own episodes.

It took about 5 or 6 weeks for me to go from consultation to surgery. I had to get a psych eval, stress test, nutrition seminar, and a 10 day liver shrink diet before surgery. My BMI was same as yours and my surgery date was July 11. Good luck on your journey!
  3. I think the order is dependent on where you are in the process. Luck - or genetics- how your body reacts to the anatomical changes is a huge factor in the honeymoon phase. 10 years out it really doesn’t play a part anymore and weight loss is more dependent on diet and exercise. Which mean will to succeed has to be the highest, since you have to have the willpower to stick to that diet and exercise.

    May Sleevers progress

I was sleeved on May 16th and have lost 31 pounds since my surgery. My surgeon said that he likes to see a weight loss of 8 to 10 pounds a month. I think we are all doing great!

So I’m 5 weeks away from surgery and my advice to all you guys get a wholesale membership. They have big bags of boneless skinless chicken breast that I pretty much use for everything. You can get protein drinks there you can get frozen veggies. You can get all the zero drinks which if you hate water like me are a lifesaver. Don’t be afraid to drop say 10 bucks on like broccoli. If it’s frozen you can find so many uses and this is coming from someone with just my husband to feed. Also moms and dads please don’t feel guilty about changing your kids eating habits my parents let me eat nothing but junk and that’s how I got to where I am it starts at home with you guys

    Forever

I would honestly rather have a life saving surgery then die in my sleep at 30 because that’s where I’m headed. I’m going downhill fast I just turned 27 and it’s a miracle that I’m still here I won’t make it to 30 at the rate I’m going. So I legit told my surgeon do anything in your power to save my life weather it’s 1 surgery or 10 I don’t care just I have too much riding on the next 50 years

    I feel scared and ashamed...

Being afraid is 100% natural. But the sleeve's mortality rate for "on the table" issues is amazingly low. In fact, ALL of the WLS now have super low "on the table" mortality rates. The numbers you might be looking at or hearing are usually skewed by old numbers, the surgeries have all advanced quite a lot even in the past 10 years. As far as getting "too fat"... we all understand. It's not 100% your fault either and you shouldn't shoulder all the blame. It's a battlefield out there, horrible easy to access foods are all over. Advertising bombards our subconscious mind at every turn. Let the past be the past. Stop dwelling on it and start moving forwards. The road ahead is going to need your undivided attention. You can't change the past, but you can control your future. So leave the past where it belongs, behind you. Now you get to start working on where you are going now. Congrats on deciding to take back control of your life. The path laid out ahead of you is tough, and is going to require major changes to so much of your typical daily routine. It's going to get emotional. It's going to get stressful, it's going to be painful, it's going to be very hard. But. It's very worth it! Remember, you are stronger than you give yourself credit for, be ready, post-op is an amazing journey!
  8. Congrats! Those are some amazing results! And don't forget, you'll be losing upwards 10-20 additional lbs or so with that tuck from the skin removal!
  9. Hi everyone! It's officially been a year since my SIPS (aka Modified DS) with Dr. Roslin at Lenox Hill and I couldn't be happier! I am down 125 lbs and 25 BMI points. I had my one year check-in and everything looks good, and they told me I don't have to lose any more weight (although I think I'd be comfortable losing 5-10 more and toning.) Now I'm planning for a tummy tuck and brachioplasty in a few months once my weight is stablized. This surgery is so worth it; I can't believe the difference, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. To everyone thinking about doing this or who has and may be struggling: keep at it. You won't regret it. #transformationtuesday
  10. Hi All :: First post! July 11th Sleeve Gastrectomy, day 12, so still in the liquid diet phase. I've been having some symptoms post "eating"... specifically, uh... shall we say, "liquid fecal urgency" about 10-15 minutes after consuming broth and/or protein shakes. Is this "dumping syndrome"? I've read lots of clinical articles with fancy medical terminology, but they don't really describe what it FEELS like. I was hoping folks on this Board could provide some insight! Thanks :: Erik Da Viking
  11. Just make sure you’re vaping 0 nic e-juice. I did some research on this when I was pre-op and I would test negative on a home test for nicotine if I abstained for 8 days. There’s a chance your surgeon may use a more sensitive test, so tack on a few days to that abstain amount. Also- you can get 10 home cotinine (the metabolite of nicotine) tests on Amazon for like 7 bucks. I was where you are just a month ago!

    Exhausted/Tired

Completely normal. I took two naps a day and slept 8-10 hrs a night for the first week after my surgery. Your body needs to rest.

    Grieving for clothes?!

I know the feeling. I recently cleaned out 95% of my closet. I'v even given away clothes that I had to buy as I have been losing, so "new" clothes. I gave away favorites. I gave away clothes I only wore once because they were for special occasions. I gave away my "pretty bras", that got far too little use. I gave away 10 winter coats. My closet has 10x's the number of of empty hangers vs. hangers being used. I've had to buy quite a bit of new clothes, even though I'm still losing, because I have to look professional. The trash bags full of clothes literally cost me tens of thousands of dollars. So, yeah, I have definitely grieved. But it is balanced by how much I love they way I look in my new clothes. How exciting it is to get out of plus sizes. How much more confident I feel when I'm wearing my new clothes.

    Exhausted/Tired

I had surgery 7/10, today was one of the first days I had real, sustained energy. Cleaned the house, purged the kids toys, etc. It takes time

Did your team give you Zofran? In my case I would take the Zofran, wait 10 min, then test with a tiny sip. If it wasn't rejected, I'd try another and so on. If it's plain water you don't like, try it as Crystal Light or some such. What kind of foods can you have at this point? Can you incorporate water into them?
  18. Know that your body will find its new point. You won’t keep losing forever and will likely regain 5-10 lbs from the bottom. That’s a typical pattern. I’m your height and I bottomed out and regained about 7. I maintain comfortably at about 135 with lots of muscle. You’re not too thin you just aren’t used to being normal weight. But yes if you do want to stop add some nutrient dense high calorie food. Dairy, nuts, avocado.... that kind of thing.

    Alone

I agree with @ValJean. What a thorough response, @CyclicalLoser. So many great tips! @kingcake, are you able to stay any longer in the hospital? I stayed for 3 nights by choice mostly because of fear of coming home too early and not having help, plus I adored the nurse team and loved all the pampering in the hospital. I did not have any help when I got home and pretty much did exactly what @MarinaGirl did to prep. I got bills paid for a couple months, deep cleaned my house, filled up my car up with gas and washed it, purchased all my post-op liquids for about 2 weeks, set up my bed so I could easily slide in when I returned, organized my vitamins, borrowed a toilet riser (a shower chair would have been nice at the beginning). I felt overly prepared and that's what helped me come home as I got to focus on just me. It was fun. I binged on Netflix and watched weight loss surgery YouTube channels and aside from daily walks in my neighborhood, I moved from bed to couch for the first 10 days. Lots of napping took place. This is your time for you and you don't need anyone. Just be prepared and get a couple bottles of liquid Tylenol. This way, when you ease off RX pain meds, you can begin taking Tylenol and start driving again. Congrats on your surgery! You're going to do great!
  20. Mine told me any 15 gram or above protein, carbs and sugars below 10 was okay so you could even drink Premier Protein waters or similar. Between PP , Adkins, Muscle Milk and the, other you ought to be able to find something. FYI don't buy Wal-Mart's Equate, it is supposed to be equivalent,to PP but it tastes FOUL. I could barely shallow, the stuff.

    Abnormal ekg?!

Please get it checked out, try calling the cardiologist yourself if necessary. It is better to find out it is nothing than to have it be the edge of the iceberg that sunk the Titanic. I'm afraid I may over react but it is justified. I once had a son, well actually 3 children, but one I want to discuss. Seemed the healthiest of all my kids, seldom sick, good looking, had a job he loved, a wonderful guy in every way. But he had undiagnosed cardiac problems,no one guessed. Went into our local hospital with chest pain, wasn't all that bad , even walked in after being transported by squad. 17 hours later he was dead, he had an aortic aneurysm that dissected, the larger blood vessel exploded and he died. He was 31 years old and I loved him so. No chance to say goodbye, no chance to say I Love You although I had told him that often through his life. And my arms still ache to hold him, granted he was an adult but we hugged often. And after 10 years , it still hurts. If I could have exchanged my life for his I would have done it in a millisecond. Please get it checked out. Those that love you as well as the world still need you here!! Much love and tears💦 your friend. Frustr8

    Time to be honest!!!

Surgery tomorrow so today is clear liquid only, The last 10 days have been tough, I was supposed to be on shakes, SF Jello, SF popcicles, and broth but I cheated with dill pickels and a couple of small salads. I stayed under 700 calories everyday but at times the headaches got me and I caved, At least I lost 10 lbs so that was good. I am so ready to get through the surgery and onto the other side!

    Vitamins schedule

I am almost two weeks out from surgery so I'm still getting my vitamin schedule down. What I do is take my acid reducer, biotin, and Vitamin D first thing in the morning (all the pills are really small and give me no problem), first multi (I take Centrum Chewable) with breakfast, first 2 calcium chews at 10, another 2 calcium chews at 2, and my other multi with dinner. I use Nascobal as my Vitamin B so I just snort it once a week.
