  1. This is an interesting thread. When I first had surgery, I didn't feel I deserved to have a healthy and slim body, I just wanted to feel a bit better. Now much of my excess weight has come off, I am so sad for the pre surgery me, who was so low and underconfident she couldn't even dream of being a healthy weight. Funny how things change. I have been feeling a bit fed up with my dietician saying it's not likely I'll hit my own personal goal (which would be a BMI in the region of 22-23). I hit 29 with little effort (beyond surgery, not eating much, and the challenges that come with a tiny stomach of course!) and am now enjoying exercising in a variety of ways. I am 9 months out, and while I appreciate weight loss will (and has) slow down, I didn't go through all of this to remain at an unhealthy weight! I may not get to my ultimate goal, but I'm certainly not going to give up before I've tried. We have gone through a lot to get to where we are now, and we deserve to succeed. So I say go for it - set your goal and work towards it. Set smaller goals on the way (the first 25, the next hundred bracket, lower than 5 years ago, that sort of thing) and celebrate each win. As you get closer to goal, you can always revise it if it doesn't feel right.

I have loved this weight loss bonus! So much more room in my suitcase, I can pack waaayyy more clothes and shoes when I travel!

    Can I change my surgery?

I had a revision on 4.20 and initially I was going to have a sleeve revision - I changed my mind to bypass and glad I did! I had severe GERD and a hernia and I have never felt better...am also losing the excess weight I gained back.

    May Surgeries - check in!

How did eating once a day cause you to gain? That’s what I do now and I did gain so really just curious.

    I'm losing my hair!!

Great job on the weight loss! Try Viviscal Professional and PRP Injections. A bit pricey but worth it! And the hair loss is not permanent…it will stop and grow back!

    May Surgeries - check in!

I had the sleeve 5 years ago lost 125 lbs gained 35 back because I went back to old habit of 1 meal a day. just had the bypass on 5/10 and have currently lost almost 15lbs! It’s a different feeling I have before I could feel myself getting full now I can’t but then my stomach will start to hurt and gets hard so I know I’m full no bad habits coming back this time!
  8. Aloha, Not trying to hijack your question, but I also am struggling with this question. My pre-surgery meeting with my surgeon is 6/22 where I expect we'll discuss this, with surgery (DS) on 7/12. I'm heavier than most on this board with a CW of 411 at 5 foot 6 inches, aged 42 years. At first I thought, 200 is a weight that I can live with as I can travel, sit in single plane seats/bus seats and zipline and skydive and bungee jump and ride in rollercoasters, etc. etc. But as the weeks tick by, I don't want a weight that I can simply "live with". If I'm going to alter my body so significantly, I'd like to thrive! I'd like to get out of "obese" and "overweight" BMI's. The lightest I've weighed as an adult is 185 pounds and that was when I was 19 years old. Even though it sounds absolutely nutter, I'm gonna tell my surgeon I'd like to weigh 154 so I'm officially in a "normal" BMI. He may laugh or scoff, but hey, it's a goal. A 257 pound loss may be impossible, but I'm ready to shoot for the stars after imprisoning myself for so long.

    First Stall and Carb questions

you're just in a stall. I had several along the way - especially during year 2. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. At 1000 kcal/day, you should still be losing weight. Protein and carbs are fine - I was not on an ultra-low carb plan, and I lost over 200 lbs. (P.S. some plans ARE ultra-low-carb, but others are not. We didn't have a carb limit at all. I usually had around 80 a day)
  10. My goal was to reach 135 and now I am at 131 at 9 months out. I don't like the way I look or feel at this weight. I wish I would have stopped losing around the 140-145 mark. That is when I felt better about the way I looked. Now I am trying to stop losing and just maintain and having a very hard time with it. I believe you will know what you feel comfortable with at the time.

    Elusive Sleep

I was on Trazadone before the WLS and it made me gain a lot of weight. You could be experiencing anxiety? Check with your doc. There are lots of meds for it that don't make you gain weight.

    First Stall and Carb questions

Hello everyone has stalls at different times of their weight loss journey. It is completely normal. I have had several. Some have lasted a week, and others have lasted 3-4 weeks at a time. It is very discouraging but if you stay on track, you will keep losing. Your carbs and calories seem very high to me. I am 9 months out and my carbs don't go over 20, protein is 90-100, and calories is around 800 at the most per day. I know we are all different, and on different eating plans. I am not a doctor, but my advice would be to try to increase your protein, eat less carbs and calories and watch what happens. Good Luck
  13. I have been doing great since my surgery on New Years Eve. I was losing weight well and only weigh myself once a week. I never had a stall and that is probably because I had covid and it hit my whole gastro system so I lost weight there too. I was still losing weight well this last week. I have lost nothing. I was like well here is my first stall and now I am still the same weight. I have added a frozen yogurt Yasso at night after dinner because it has been hot and I have not added a snack to my diet yet. I am wondering if my weight stall is normal at 5 months or if it is because I added something new to my diet that I should not be having. I never let my carbs for the day go over 50 and my protein is between 60 to 80. My calories are never over 1000 either. If I have higher carbs for the day I do not have the yogurt bar. Do you think this is normal? Should I put protein shakes back into my diet? Should I do my snack earlier in the day?

    Vitamins & Bypass?

I had the sleeve done 10 years ago and missed the memo on not drinking carbonated water. I stretched my tummy out and got hungry again, of course means more food and weight gain. 🙄 On the 19, I had the bypass done. It’s more aggressive than the sleeve and the advances in 10 years convinced me to do it. I’m less than 2 weeks in but I think, if I follow the rules, this will be the fix. good luck on your journey

    Elusive Sleep

Careful with the trazodone! One of its major side effects is weight gain:(
  16. My starting weight was 230, and I wanted to lose an even 100, so set my goal at 130. When I told the nurse my goal, she looked at me like I was crazy, and said that losing 70lbs was more realistic. I pretended to go along with her, but again set my personal goal at 130. When I hit 130, I decided to go for 120. After that, I just naturally dropped a few more lbs, and seem to hover between 113-117. I was 114 this morning. I'm honestly not doing much in the way of effort to be this weight, and am happy with the way that I look. If it ever becomes a struggle to maintain, I wouldn't be opposed to going up to a 120-125 range...but for now, it's easy to just hang out where I am!
  17. Since I started out at 393, I've made my goal weight 200 or mess. I am currently 241. Ideally I'd like to be 150 or 160, which is the lowest I ever was as an adult. I am still in the overweight category even at that weight since I'm short. I can't believe I can ever get there again, so under 200 is my goal, which my surgeon says is very doable. My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit recently, so I do worry I won't get there, but I won't give up. Even this weight is such a huge difference from where I was before. I'd just prefer to get out of the obese category! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Not consistently. There are potentially lots of explanations depending on you. Certain foods can trigger moods. Or caffeine withdrawal. Medications can have that side effect, especially if your dosing should be changed with your weight loss. Also your hormones are probably wild with the fat burning. Maybe try journaling and see what comes up. Your body is wise and you may be able to identify the problem yourself!

    Stall/Gaining HELP!?!

Oof, I’m a bit over 6 months and I’ve also been stalled for about 1.5 weeks. Very annoying, since I’m getting plenty of exercise and 1000 calories per day. At my height that’s definitely a calorie deficit. I’ve just decided to step away from the scale for a few weeks and not worry about it. If I was snacking a ton or eating things that were off-plan that would be one thing but I just don’t think that’s the case. If I’m still this weight in in two weeks then I’ll be back here with a bit more panic and plans to shake things up. Otherwise, just the lovely scale driving us nuts as it loves to do.
  20. I had my gbp surgery back in 2018 I was 205lbs I'm 4'10 with a very small frame. I was having health issues more than I can count on being in and out of the hospital. So the doc and I talked and decided that this would be good for me, so I did it. I had no issues and I went down to 110lb in like 6-8 months my energy was back I was able to enjoy riding bikes and going to the pool just everything outside including hiking and camping. I stayed that weight for a long time give or take a little. But it's now 2021 and with in the last two or three months my weight went down to 81lbs and I'm always nauseous and I have been vomiting a lot, my energy is down in always lightheaded and dizzy. I'm meeting with my doctor next week to talk about all of this but I feel I'm not getting enough. I'm getting scars cause I look sick all the time. I'm 48 and I'm thinking about having a gastric reverse done. Is this something to consider?

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hey April Sleevers, Everyone feeling ok about making it through the holiday weekend? I will be attending a family gathering where family will see me for the first time. I'm 7 weeks out so I've lost weight and can only eat 2.5 ounces of food. Sox I'm preparing to handle a few questions. I'm feeling confident about staying in plan. How about you all?

  23. Hi everyone! So I definitely need some support in getting my water intake. I'm struggling getting water in big time. Its not like its that difficult for me to drink water, my problem is that I have such a busy work life as most of us do im sure. Most of the time im working strictly from home but I am also a mental health case manager, so I do outreach clients out to their homes and sometimes a session can be like an hour long and I would literally forget to drink water when im with my clients. Today for instance, i went to visit eight clients and I didn't drink water at all while I was out I'm concern about my water intake, im hardly getting any in. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions of something that works for you? I really need to get at lease 64oz in per day, to help with dehydration, for more energy and also to help with weight loss because I think my weight might be stalled because of me not drinking enough fluids.
  24. My surgeon wanted my goal weight to be mid-overweight range. They weren't worried about being in the normal range, but wanted me far enough away from Obese that if I had a little bounce back I wouldn't fall back into obese. My personal goal moved around a lot, and actually ended up just above my original goal... From 150 to 187 (dr goal) to 167 (half my previous weight) to 160. I'm pretty happy where I am (although body dysmorphia is a *itch). I may try to hit 150 so that if I do have a little gain further out I end up right around 160.

    I smell funny?

I do smell something... at first I thought it was the smell of the protein drinks but now I believe it must be the odor of weight loss - whether it is ketones or not - I don’t know. It smells somewhat like vitamins.
