Stalls sucks. I am 10 weeks out of my surgery and I am just coming out of a 20 day stall. It was terrible, mentally. 20 days is a long time and you really begin to question things at that stage. Like everyone says out here, you just have to be patient.

How long before "regular" food?
RestlessMonkey replied to Rutiglius's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post op diet was: week 1 clear liquids (which meant no protein shakes) week 2 liquids (including blended cream soups, etc) week 3 mushies week 4 mushies and soft foods week 5 regular food... and I stuck to it. i learned my lesson the hard way during my preop diet. -
I am October 4 also. The first day of the liquid diet was tough. Day two hasnt been as bad, although I woke up feeling dizzy. After a Protein drink the feeling passed. I am glad surgery is on a monday because it will be easier to keep me on the diet that last weekend. I am sure this weekend wont be fun. Atleast during the week work is a good distraction for much of the day.

I've been sleeved for almost 2 months and I love it. My sleeve has helped me finally be and feel in control of my weight and health. Since I had this procedure done, I am more motivated to get up and exercise at least 4 to 5 times a week, I started with walking right after surgery and everyday up til my 6 weeks out and now I swim, I do strength training, zoomba and I still walk alot. It does take making some serious adjustments, as far as changing eating and drinking habits, but it is well worth this for me. My sleeve, has become my 3rd best friend, ( God 1st, & hubby 2nd). No regrets at all!!! I was a snug size 16 on March 1 and now I'm in a comfortable 12, thanks to my self and my sleeve partnership!

Hi everyone! I was banded on 2/25/09 and had pretty good restriction in the beginning (like most) and have slowly started losing restriction. Which I hear is normal. I still have some restriction, but I am able to eat most anything. My first fill is coming up on 4/6/09. I am both excited about this and scared. Excited for the obvious reasons, to lose weight! Scared, because I guess it's the unknown. To date I have been able to eat what I want and I know this will change with some restriction. I knew this from the beginning, but this time before restriction has given me some freedom . Are these fears unfounded? I am still losing about 1/2 lb. a week currently and definitely eating less than I used to. Any advice??:tongue_smilie:

how long after surgery did you have a drink
Hazel-eyes replied to jaylow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drink about 2 1/2 -3 weeks after surgery.....but this was only 1 drink sipped over an hour or so. I think you would be fine with a glass of wine. Enjoy! -
Six weeks, but don't expect immediate results. That only happens for the very rare lucky ones after their first fill or two, or three, or four....

i have the same question - i'm being banded july 5 and practically live in my backyard pool with my 5 year old son - hope we can get in the pool soon after!! would settle for 2 weeks post surgery max!

How soon can you take a bath?
Foxbins replied to ravenjeh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said when my incisions were closed (which happened at two weeks)--and not to let the shower water really soak them either--just a quick swipe with the antibacterial soap and a fast rinse. Sorry! -
When did you get to eat solids?
Bufflehead replied to ad5707's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No solids for me until 8 weeks post op, and then they had to be soft enough to cut easily with a fork. Not released to "full" solids etc. until six months post op. -
Knowing that I had to do something about my weight which was completely out of control. I made an appointment with Dr. Misra, (Beverly Hills, California) to discuss what options are available for me. I went in with the notion that i was going to do the lapband. After advising Dr. Misra about the ups and downs of my weight issues and I wanted a more "permenent solution" she strongly suggested the Vertical Sleeve with the STARR treatment. Hearing this wonderful option I decided with the advise from my husband and daughter- this was the right choice for me. My surgery, scheduled July 13th 2o11 in Santa Clarita. Amen the surgery went off without any complications and I was realeased the day after. Coming home was a challenge due to the fact we have stairs in our home. Taking the three days to finally master the courage to walk the steps to go upstairs. I was able to rest more comfortably. The first couple days as you know were dealing with the gas issues and the lack of sleep. Only able to take a couple of sips at a time seemed so odd to me. How am I surviving on just a few sips of protein? But, I did, and the third week I went to see Dr. Misra and to my surprise I was down 20pds. I was in a state of shock... and since then, I have continued to lose consistly 20pds per month. I am proud to annouce that as of today I met my 3rd goal of 199. I am so happy that I made this final decesion to do something about my weight issues. Needing to thank all my friends and family for their most incredible support and kind words. And to my friends here on Vertical Sleeve for all their wonderful eamils, suggestions and great advice. Its now onto the 4th goal. I am hoping to reach my final weight goal of 150 by the end of June of this year. I will keep you all posted on the progress. Once again... thank you "ALL" for every sweet emails and kind words you have so graciously given me. Maddy

How do you find her recipes, everything is all over the place. I see a few, but are they all together somewhere? I am 5 weeks out and can try anything now, but have only stuck to turkey breast and chicken. I need some good recipes please. I am not an exotic cook, need simple recipes since I work long hours. I am not really craving anything either, but know I cannot live on chicken. Please help Thanks

I have dieted my whole life, I lost 17 pounds when I was 10 years old! I was under 175 for years, I am 5'9". Around 20 years ago I suddenly gained 50 pounds, then slowly 30 more. I managed to stay under 257 (set point?) for years. Then I started to creep up, and nothing I did seemed to get the weight off. When I started to have other problems, blood pressure, and cholesterol... I knew I had to take things to the next level. WLS. My Bariatric Doc recommended the sleeve, and it looked SOOOO much better to me than RNY, I jumped on it. I was one of his first patients. I have been very happy with the sleeve, but never got to my modest goal (my doc never set a goal). I was about 5 pounds away from goal, when I hit a serious stall... then I gave up some accountability, and gained 22 pounds over around 4-5 months. I had long term company, a vacation to New Orleans, bone spurs that kept me from the gym and walking until I got through the whole sports medicine system... and a few other things that made it very challenging to stay on track, and in a blink... 22 pounds up. At the first of this year I got back on track, logging everything, getting a fitbit to keep track of exercise, and try a couple of eating plans to try to kick start the weight loss. I tried "eat more- lose weight" I started to gain (around 4-5 pounds) which is normal on that plan, but I chickened out because... well it was gaining weight! I then tried the Southbeach phase one... which is good, lost a couple of pounds, but lets face it, its a diet. I am a vegetarian, and that adds some extra carbs. I was still coming to VST, getting support from my buds here, but stepped that up. Some of us grouped together who had gotten to goal and gained, or others that had never made goal, and that conversation started here. Georgia introduced the 5:2 fast diet into the conversation, and some of us jumped on it around 6 weeks ago. We have had varying degrees of success, but it has had positive results besides weight loss for all of us. As of this writing, I am down 7 pounds at 5 1/2 weeks, (was at 8.8 pounds a couple of days ago) after some very slow loss (around 1-2 pounds a month). I am getting close to my lowest weight after surgery, and to goal. I had my surgery January 19, 2011, and am over 2 1/2 years out as of this post.

How Many Days/Weeks Did/Do Your Stalls Last?
gr8ful1 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
May I respond to your question with a question? This question is really for everyone, and I think the answers might add value. When you are having a stall in weight loss, do you have a corresponding stall in losing inches from your waist/hip/whatever measurement? I've seen some people mention stalls lasting 3 weeks, a month, or even more. But did your clothes continue to get looser as the scale stayed pegged on the same number? -
Sorry you're going through the emotions! Most of us went through the freak out too. I was scared because it was my first surgery ever... And somehow I got it in my head that surgery meant I was a failure. I got my head back in place about it being a tool that I could use and not a sign of failure and I haven't looked back. The first few weeks are tough and you'll be tired and emotional as you adjust your relationship with food and start to lose weight but it is the best tool for those of us that just could not lose the weight. You have to do it for your own reasons but I have not regretted the decision once I got past the initial healing. It's amazing to feed that I am in charge if myself finally! And I love how it feels to be losing weight (since you really have no other option). I hope you can find some calm. Good luck!

How long before you felt normal again?
shriner37 replied to destiny_77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I started to feel better about day 4 post surgery, and began improving fairly rapidly after that. I would say my full energy didn't come back for a few weeks though. The good news is when it did I had more energy than I've had in years! -
Excited, Nervous, Thinking too Much!
Newme4ever replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Petra 1124, you took the words right out of my mouth. I felt the same way this past week. I'm scheduled for the 24 th and all fear and concerns have played over and over through my mind a million times over . I decided that I was not going to tell anyone except for my husband and my children. I don't want to hear anyone's negativity . This is not the easy way out like I've heard when I expressed to a friend that I was interested in doing this. And guess what even if it is so be it, this is for our health and well being,I want to enjoy my children and do what I love to do with them, just like you, I am nervous that we can't eat the things that we used to but I keep telling myself that is what got me here in the first place. I'm sure in time we can eat what we want in super small portions ( works for me) . Once we start losing weight everything will fall into place . We will do great ! Good luck and don't let anyone discourage you. We are finally doing something for ourselves. ( at least for me everyone else came first and I put myself on the back burner , not any more) ttys -
Just got off a cruise
PinkJewels replied to Sabrina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We just got off the carnival valor a week ago! I personally fell in love with the smoked salmon. They had it on bagels from the deli, but i'd just have them throw it on my plate. LOVED snorkeling in roatan, such a great destination. Don't get sucked into the "cave tubing" excusion in belize, we thought it was a huge rip off. Spent 3 of the 4.5 hours just in a bus, and then about 45 minutes hiking in the jungle with wet bathing suits and water shoes. -
How long before taking NSAIDs (Motrin, Asprin, etc.)
Tiffykins replied to PatrickG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to wait 6 weeks as well. I swear by that Icy/Hot or Aspercreme stuff. The aspercreme works great for my lower back cramps when I stretch it weird. Hope the heating pad works for you soon.
