  1. At five weeks, I was just a few days into eating cooked regular foods as tolerated. But, since your doctor has you on a slower transition, you should just roll with it. I am surprised that you seem to be eating mostly carbs. Even at the mushy stage, you can eat regular food, just cook it to softness and then run it through the blender a bit to break it down. On soft mushy foods, I was eating yogurt (protein), scrambled eggs (protein), refried Beans with cheese and a little sour cream (protein), beef stew run through the blender (protein), moist chicken meat (protein), moist ground beef or turkey (protein) and steamed fish (protein). Let the blender be your friend. For every 1/2 cup of Protein, I was to eat two tablespoons of veggies. One of my biggest issues with food was changing my habits developed around food. I loved sweet rolls, muffins, pancakes, etc. for Breakfast as soon as I opened my eyes - sweets with a cup of sweet tea. Now I have eggs for breakfast, but one day it's a fried egg, one day it is boiled, maybe another day it is a small cheese omelet with sauteed peppers, onions, mushrooms and ham, and today I am eating deviled eggs. lunch was frequently an hour after breakfast. Now I make a point to drink at least two bottles of Water before I eat anything else, and then it is a snack. Today I had a gherkin and an ounce of cheese. Some days the snack is 1/2 an apple with a tablespoon of Peanut Butter. A couple of days a week, my snack is 1/3 cup yogurt with some berries. See, it is not the same every day. lunch is now early afternoon, and I am starting to eat more tuna salad and other cold salads and vary the ingredients. My late afternoon snack might be a little dark chocolate with a handful of almonds. In my soft phase, yogurt was my go-to. I could put a little sugar-free jam in it to give it a little flavor. Supper was any soft meat I wanted plus a couple of spoonfuls of mashed veggies. My favorite was/is green beans because they are not starchy. My bedtime snack, if I have to have one, is usually oatmeal with stewed apples, or 1/2 banana and peanut butter....there are so many things you can do. Meals cannot be the highlight of my day anymore. I have to be creative and find interesting things to do that don't involve mindless munching on popcorn or chips. Bariatric surgery changes your life. You need to think differently to feel differently and get healthy. This gets better as you graduate through the various phases because your options open up. No, I do not eat Pasta anymore. Last night for dinner, I had two meatballs with spaghetti sauce and parmesan cheese, and a few green beans. I have had pizza a couple of times and just use a fork to pull the goodies off the crust. There is no flavor in regular crust anyway. It's just a plate you can eat. Dessert will be a peach, not peach pie. Put on your thinking cap and get creative. Drink water, sip, sip, sip until your eyeballs float. You can do this!

    April bypass buddies.

My GB surgery was on the 8th so today is day 5. I am kind of amazed at how tired I am. it's 1:25 and only just now managed to eat Breakfast. Showering and getting dressed used up a whole lot of my gumption. Am hoping the yogurt, cottage cheese and Protein powder will give some pep. So far, NOT. But the pain is less, and everything is sweet and peaceful. So it's a good day to recover some more. Looking forward to renewed energy and vitality. Hope this all goes well for you other April babies. Life is new and renewed and we are going to be great!

    Protein question

At 6 weeks I was allowed solid foods, so I switched to Protein bars instead of shakes. I was SOOOOOOO over shakes by then. It took me a while to be able to eat a whole one, but I definitely prefer them to shakes. Just be careful about saturated fat, carbs, and sugar when choosing a Protein Bar. Some of them can be pretty terrible for you. My personal choice is Quest Bars (specifically chocolate Chip Cookie Dough). If you have a Vitamin Shoppe or GNC near you, you can buy individual bars to try out the different flavors. Even some grocery stores sell the individual bars. Here's what I eat in a typical day to get my 100 grams of protein in. Keep in mind, I'm 7 months out, so I can eat a lot more than you probably can right now: Breakfast: Quest Bar (21g) Morning Snack: Reduced Fat String cheese (8g) Lunch: 3-4 oz. of meat of some sort (14-20g) Afternoon Snack: Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt with Granola or Kashi Cereal mixed in (12-15g) Dinner: 3-4 oz. of meat of some sort (14-20g) Coffee: w/ 2 oz of Soy Milk (2g) Evening Snack: EAS AdventEDGE Carb Control shake or Quest Bar (17-21g) So that's 88 grams on the low end of everything and 107 grams on the high end of everything.

    Protein question

I am 6 weeks out so I am eating (almost) a regular diet. A scrambled egg or yogurt and beef jerky for breakfast. Lunch consists of left overs of whatever was for dinner, Soup, lunch meat or low fat refried beans and taco meat for lunch and for dinner. I am just having a hard time getting to 60grams. Protein shakes don't sit well on my tummy. I was drinking Isopure for a while but the taste of them gets old quickly. Idk what my problem is to be honest.

First Day on Stage 3 Puree

I like Greek Yogurt and actually have been making my own for years. You can add some fruit to it if allowed at this time. It is not the sugar laden yogurt most are used to so people are often thrown by it at first. I just can't see peanut butter being a good option for a meal. There are much better options. But to each their own.
  6. Hi Everyone, Well today is the day in which I stared my stage 3 phase "puree" diet. I decided for Breakfast I'll have some Greek Yogurt in which I've never tried before and I might add that it was the most vile thing that I've ever had. So I've decided instead of the Greek Yogurt I'll have Peanut Butter for breakfast. Does anyone feel the same way I do about the Yogurt? If so, what are you eating to take its place. Have a beautiful day. Prada.
  7. How much Protein are you getting? Does MFP show you a pie chart of where your calories are coming from between protein fat and carbs? If so, what are the average percentages? Are you getting in all of your Water? My best guess is that, if you just started going to the gym two months ago, your body is right now trying to adapt to the increased level of activity. Most people experience a slow down in weight loss when they take up exercise. Keep up your activity level and maybe try introducing more high protein Snacks to curb hunger. When I started exercising intensely around 4 months post-op, I had to add a morning snack to my regime (a reduced fat cheese stick), because I was getting hungry between Breakfast and lunch. I also added a little granola to my afternoon greek yogurt, so the little bit of extra carbs would help fuel my late afternoon workouts.

    OCTOBER 2014

@@Beni First thing in the morning, I have my coffee with a packet of Bariwise Hot chocolate and a Quest bar. That sets me up with 37 grams of Protein to start the day, if I eat the whole bar (which I normally don't). For lunch, I either have a fish dish of some sort (17-30 grams of protein), or Greek yogurt with Bare Naked Granola Protein (28 grams of protein for the combo). By the way, I tried Starbucks Doubleshot with Protein yesterday, and it was pretty good too. Ended up with 41 grams to start the morning that way, but I think I'll stick with the Bariwise because of the sugar content. For my "snack," I have a Bariwise fruit drink (lemonade and grape are my favorites). That's another 15. And if I'm really hungry, I'll eat a bag of protein chips (Bariwise barbecue is my favorite). That's 10. That means by dinner, I have around 80 grams of protein already in (with no chips). But I still focus on protein at dinner. I either eat whatever meat my sister cooks for herself and some veggies, or I have a bowl of Special K Protein plus 1/2 cup of almond milk and some fruit (berries of some sort). Either way, I'll be closer to 100 grams. I was getting about 60-70 grams previously. This has definitely helped.
  9. Find yourself an unflavored Protein powered to add to things whenever possible. Learn to alter thing you enjoy. Greek yogurt is a good source of protein. Edamame can be count In a form much like humas, or regular humas will give you an alternate source. Blackeyed peas oddly enough seem to have a good amount of protein. Non meat eater? Not trying to pry however does this include fish? I am 22wks going on 23 wks post op. Although I personally have no religious or personal restriction for no meat, chicken, or anything for that matter. I have found that mean seems to be an issue for my sleeve. Fish is my main source of protein along with cheese and protein based drinks. I also learned that post op the palet does change and things that once were so wonderfully tasty now are yucky! eggs are another thing that my sleeve is a bit picky about or maybe I should say egg as I can only handle one. Scramled sometimes works sometimes makes me uncomfortable. Post op I find that I read more labels than ever! A simply trip to the grocery now has become a process filled with reading labels. Tofu comes in various forms now as well and can be a meat replacement. Start looking in the organic isle and reading. I know you said soft food stage however realize this is different for everyone. I have purée first and learned to blend the vegitarian burgers into something yummy Tons of support to you!

    5 days post-op

I am 4 days post op and actually came here for the same reasons, lol. I am feeling very hungry right now. I know it is too soon to eat anything ,and I actually got 60 gm of Protein in today (eating and drinking is a full time job, amirite?!?) but as sad as this sounds, I just knew I could not be the only one feeling icky right now. I might go get another 4 ounces of Fage yogurt 0% mixed with SF raspberry syrup to take the edge off. At least it will keep me occupied for the next 30 minutes! I am so glad you posted, @hello2brenda. It really is comforting to know there are others feeling the same things I am right now. Thank you to the others that posted here, too, and good luck to all on this new journey!
  11. That was the hardest phase for me. I didn't eat any meat. I lived on yogurt, ricotta and cottage cheese- all low fat of course!

    Not getting much in

For me Puree was week 4 (last week) and I could do about 2 oz of cottage cheese or chicken salad, about half of a yogurt or sugar free pudding. I do a Protein drink for breakfast and have a early 11:00 lunch, so I typically have a snack about 3:00 and then dinner at 6:00ish... It is crazy though that some doctors say only 3 meals a day, some say eat something every 3-4 hours, 3 meals 2 Snacks, etc... I just stick with what my plan says, and have had no problems so far. The thing I am most diligent about is getting all my fluids and protein.

    Hungry hell lol

Get a light greek yogurt. The kind I buy (Danon Light & Fit) is 9 carbs and 12 grams of Protein.
  14. I start purees tomorrow as well and go back to work. I have stocked up on baby food (no judgement!! It's easier and convenient, and on SALE!), pudding, Greek yogurt, and apple sauce.
  15. mine said no yogurt I love it.

    10days post op

I am 4 days out of surgery. It went well, I got home, and wow did I miss the PCA! Also the easy out and back in bed. Everyday I feel better. My husband and I went for a stroll. It was so beautiful outside and I could smell every blossom. Heaven. My nose is supper sensitive and the house smells are hard to take. I ate yogurt today and it was good mixed with some vanilla Protein powder. Each new accomplishment feels satisfying. Go me.
  17. @purpleandgold You should ask her specifically about the coffee then. As for yogurt, the Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt has a really good calorie/protein/carb range. For example, the strawberry has 80 calories, 12g Protein, and 8 carbs.

    March 2015 Surgery!

Hi everyone. I had mine on 4/8/15. Still sore and tired. But am sleeping at night now. Every day brings a little bit more of myself back. Just ate my first 2 oz meal of yogurt plus 1T Protein. Slight headaches now and then also. Otherwise good. Thumbs up!

Can I have coffee on my preop diet?

Here's my diet: liquid diet: * Water * juice sugar free * Jello sugar free * Yogurt (natural or flavor) * Bouillon or clear broth (chicken, meat, vegetables, miso Soup, etc it has to be clear, just the broth) * Cream Soups made with non fat milk * Popcicles * Protein shakes 2 a day ( morning and night) Also, She says I can have yogurt, but yogurt has a lot of carbs so I am a little bit confused on that.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

@@samuelsmom I'm gonna do the full liquid, with chicken Soup for lunch and maybe a hardboiled egg or yogurt for a snack. The diet I'm going to do calls for 5 shakes per day for the full liquid, about 800kcal/day. I figure with the yogurt or egg, I'll still be below 1000kcal/day. I was gonna take 4-5 weeks off. My boss and about 1/2 my coworkers know, so when I go back, I shouldn't have a problem with not lifting. I feel it's better for them to know instead of getting a funky attitude when I can't lift or push someone.

    Post op diet

I was also sleeved Tuesday. My doctor gave me a slip n slide diet. Basically it has to be able to slide off your plate and through a funnel with no problem ie jello, yogurt, protein shakes, soft scrambled eggs, soup broth is what I was given

Yogurt is only my list from my surgeon, but I don't know how...it has so many carbs!

    really struggling

Hi there! Let's refocus that thought. Think before surgery when you were heavier, couldn't walk, couldn't catch your breath, depressed, illnesses?, whatever it was that forced you to get this tool to help you with your new life. A chicken wing will only last a minute this new life you will carry with you. The new freedom you will gain from focusing on the positive aspect. Your addictive brain is giving all these thoughts because it wants it's quick fix, it's drug...the thing we all need to fight as food addicts. You will be able to have chicken wings in a new way when your body is ready. Baked not fried a yogurt hot sauce you can do this!! Hugs

    so many questions?

I did not have a revision, but I did get my sleeve done march 11, it is great! Yes you can eat too fast and have the stuck feeling, yes you can eat and vomit also! The thing is that you are not starving or so hungry that you want to "shove it in" at least not me. I no longer live to eat I now eat to live! My mother has the band and she struggles daily with it, she is still hungry, because of course they do not remove the hunger hormone when they do the band, but with the sleeve a lot of those hunger hormones are removed thus for you are not hungry all the time! I do feel full after just a few bites of food and I stop. I do not feel that my stomach feels any different, just that it's sore inside from surgery, I had mine sewn done inside because of other reasons so I am just a little sore. Just don't eat too big of bites and chew your food and stop when your new tummy tells you to and you will do great! Liquids liquids liquids and then soft liquids and then eggs, tuna, cottage cheese , yogurt, cheese, some moist chicken ground turkey meat, deli meats, plus every doctor is different!! Good luck

    Liquid diet suggestions

@@amacox I believe unjury has broth. You can add the unflavored Protein powder to anything liquid, it may be less expensive, too. Remember, unflavored DOESN'T mean it has no flavor, it tends to have kind of a creamy flavor, not really sweet, but not salty, either. It is just that they do not ADD flavor to it. It works well in coffee (decaf, of course!), cold drinks, Soup, broth, and I put it in cottage cheese, yogurt, scrambled eggs - anything wet. Make sure it has enough moisture, or it will clump. It will be cloudy and not very appealing to look at, but it does the job....just use a glass you can't see through!
