    OMG - I did a 5K!!!!

I don't believe it but we did a 5K this weekend as a family (3.1 miles). My youngest is only 3 and my DH ended up walking with him on his shoulders for about 90% of it, but my dd who is 5 did a great job! I couldn't believe that I did a 5K. DH did 3 or 4 of them last year and I refused to go with him (as I hadn't had my surgery and did ZERO exercise!) but this time I did! Yeah! Our time actually sucked - we averaged 17:32 per mile, but with the 2 kids dragging along and this being our first one, we were thrilled to just finish it! I guess this should go under the NSV thread, but I was so proud of us I wanted to shout it! I am pretty sore today. I do the treadmill about 30 minutes 4 or 5 times a week and am never really sore, but I am today! Street walking is a whole new ball game!
  2. So I am about 2.5 months out, surgery was 12/22/2009 My stats: Consult weight (Oct. 23): 362 Surgery day weight: 350 Current weight: 312.8 But my NSV is that I was, for the first time ever, able to use the elliptical today! I've tried in the past and never made it more than 3-5 minutes without dying. Today I went 30 minutes on the fat burning program. So while my weight is slower than it should be and I have lost any clothes sizes... I'm getting more fit! I even had an older woman at the gym come up to me after and say "don't take this the wrong way, but I didn't think you were going to be able to do it, THAT'S AWESOME" I didn't take it the wrong way, I am 300# and can now start to keep up with the best of them!!
  3. It's between two NSVs. 1. The guard at our library (rare books) called after me after I walked past him. I turned around and he said, "Oh, I didn't even recognize you!" 2. I reserved two horses this weekend. The man asked if either my husband and I were "heavy-weights." I said, "Nope!" This was just in the last two days. I'm loving this!
  4. The beauty of NSV. Love that. At 4 mo. and stuck at 47 pounds lost. My husband keeps telling me legs are really slimming down. Will have to get the measuring tape out and count that loss until the scale starts moving again. Thanks. ????
  5. @@kimmeesue - That is the beauty of NSV (Non Scale Victories) . It allows you to be happy with things other than the numbers on the scale. Taking measurements and watching them change. Taking pictures along the way to have a visual of your progression. Noticing that you can walk easier. If you were on meds, the fact that you no longer need them or now use less. The thrill of buying clothes in a size you never imagined seeing again. NSV's are even more important than the scale.

    Non - Scale Goals:

Hey, just thought I'd let you know that one of the NSV's I had (non-scale victories) was to sit in an airline seat AND be able to buckle the seat belt! I've done that twice now. Most of the NSV's I have now are things I never even dreamed of...hiking, climbing lots of stairs, and stuff like that. I can't even tell you what a difference the lapband has made in just a year! Can't wait to hear all about your NSV's!
  8. I weighed exactly the same as surgery day on day 11 (that's the first time I weighed myself postop. I didn't step on the scale again until week 7 and I was down 17 pounds. Just concentrate on water, protein, healthy choices and learning new habits. Enjoy the NSVs and stay off the scale.
  9. I voted 100% for the BIG celebration. I do Celebrate all the little victories (scale and NSV's) along the way. I have committed to buying one outfit at each size rather than looking dumpy in too big of clothing all the time. I buy 5-7 outfits at every other size to save money. Mom had a bunch of items at my next size down so I've saved myself money on the next size (which I'm almost into!! woohoo) I've always had an extensive wardrobe so just these few of outfits is REALLY hard to deal with. Thank God that my shirts fit longer and I can have a few extras of those. I've hit 1/2 this past week as well. I honestly cannot afford to celebrate in any significant way. I know that I want the bodybugg but it's out of range at this time. My big celebration comes when I get to goal. New wardrobe, fitted fabulous leather coat (drool) and whatever else I can come up with at the time.

    Bowling!

Hi Everyone, Well, todays exercise was bowling. Proper bowling not wii bowling. The whole family went and we had such a laugh. Ok, I am not a brilliant bowler, in fact because I have weak wrists I can hardly lift the bowling ball, but I do enjoy doing it. (We don't go that often - I think this is the third time in five years!!!) It is so expensive by the time you have two lanes with everybody doing it. My granddaughter loves it too. She still has to use the kiddy helper thing to get the bowling ball where it should be. (My technical knowledge is vast isn't it!!!!) Bless her heart she scored higher than me. Oh well, she enjoyed beating me. So now I am tired but happy, as not only did I bowl, I walked up three flights of stairs to get there and walked down afterwards too. No lifts for me anymore. I guess that is an NSV right there. I didn't have to use the lift! That is a first for me. I also had to dig out some smaller skirts as most of my usual outfits have a habit of sliding to the floor. Woohoo! Everything else is pretty much the same as I have not lost any more weight, but feel sure that I will start losing again soon. I just have to be patient. (not my strongest point). How is everyone else doing? I long to be able to report the pounds are melting off me, but like I say, the scale isn't moving. I do feel thinner though. I think I am finally starting to see a difference when I look in the mirror. Small changes, but they all do add up in the end don't they. Phoenix
  11. WOW! I have survived another shift at the hospital. Chocolates, Cookies, cakes, etc everywhere! In between rounds I sit in the lounge with collegues and the table in front of me is FULL, I mean FULL of all kinds of goodies I would have gone for last year. :faint: :clap2: This time...hmmmm I guess it is an NSV I sat there several times a day and did NOT have anything!! I went to the fridge and had only the food I brought to eat that day, plus a light yogurt! I am sure I am not the only one with this experience... how have you handled it? Tiny tastes? big bites? nothing at all? Xmas with my family I will try little tastes of everything.

    New NSV :)

You go girl! That is a HUGE NSV. I am very proud for you. My advise is to keep a list of all your NSV as you go along for it helps to look back at all these great little miracles when you are at a plateau in your wt loss (like I am right now). Have a great day and ENJOY the new freedom of skirts with no stockings!
  14. Hi Everyone! I just wanted to share my progress so far with my sleeve. I started my weight loss journey with a lapband at 286 pounds. My band leaked, slipped, and broke apart in my body. No fun and it never really worked. I had my revision to the sleeve on December 27, 2010. One of the best days of my life! So far, I am down 47 pounds in three and a half months. I feel amazing and I am so happy! A few recent NSVs. I made it to ONE-DERLAND! I went to a wedding, was gone for a weekend with no calorie or carb counting, and I LOST two pounds. I have to shop in the "normal" section of the store and I still can't believe it! Sleeve life is great! Don't hesitate if you are thinking of having the surgery. I LOVE the sleeve and you will too. I can't wait to finish my journey and make it to my goal. Here is a before and after pic.

Encouragement Tips... What do you do?

@@CTJohn that's a lot of shirts....and closet space! I have next pants to fit into waiting in my closet -- a pair of purple linen and a pair of red linen. Want to get into them by summer. To remind myself of my new body and how far I've come, I like to fondle my collarbones. It is amazing to me how good that feels to have them there again. On the scale I always note now that I'm able to look right down -- my big fat belly is not obscuring the view. Whatever the number might be, that NSV is a beautiful thing. Oh, and I can look in the mirror and see that I have a waist. A waist! Thanks for the encouragement -- love this thread. Now to go do my walk at the lake!

    I put on my

Carla--OUTSTANDING NSV!!! Not only you're "old" jeans, but your old "skinny" jeans!!???? YIPPEE! I'm jealous, but I'm excited for you and hopeful I'll have a NSV like that some day! Are you feeling well, getting more energy, getting in protein and water...all that good stuff?? I feel like you're "lapping" me...getting out so far ahead of me...but I'm still gonna try to catch up with you. That's one of the great things about this site...we can use it as needed...a crutch, a kick in the butt, a challenge, a pity party, whatever our need at the time! Keep up the good work. I'm really proud of you!! Nanster:biggrin1:
  19. I have been visiting family the past two weeks and haven't been able to post (they still have dialup and I'm impatient). For the first time in over five years, I was able to get on the plane, sit down and buckle the belt, without requiring a seatbelt extender!!! I am so happy!

    NSV & More

Being new to all of this I am slowly learning the terminology & abbreviations. Found out today was NSV stands for and I thought I'd share one of mine.... The one that stands out the most is silly but significant (to me anyway). I sat down one day to put on my socks and shoes to get ready for work and I crossed my right leg over my left knee... and it stayed up there!!! I was so very excited. I can't remember the last time I was able to put on socks & shoes that way. I make it a point to do it every time I'm getting ready now just to make sure the skill hasn't left me as quickly as it arrived. Silly I know, but I LOVE it. Small victories keep me moving:thumbup: I find it easy to get discouraged, especially when you're uber aware of family & friends around you and it feels like they have these expectations for you to be successful...quickly. But I have to remember to stay positive. I'm always encouraging others to stay positive - I need to learn to practice what I preach :tongue_smilie:

VICTORY - nsv & sort of sv

pfunkem - that is an awesome NSV! Truly, the weekends are my trouble time too! It is so easy to say well it's the weekend -- something I continue to work on. I ordered a 'wrap' Friday and Saturday for dinner while out - and found myself only able to eat 1/2 of the larger one Saturday nite and was able to say NO to chips, etc. It is so hard and I think you deserve LOTS of cheers!!! Way to go!!! Taking care of YOU!

    Slipping into Shoes

One small NSV for me is my feet have shrunk. I bought some new shoes a while back and had to set them aside and buy wider ones because they did not fit well and were too tight. I tried them on for the hell of it yesterday and they fit great and I wore them the whole day with no problems. I never would have never thought of my feet shrinking…probably a guy thing.

I Made It Through My First Fill - Barely

I'm able to eat mushies now. I had to wait 48 hours after the fill to eat. It was a little scary at first - since I could still feel liquids going down, but I did fine - works great - eat about 1/2 as much as I could before the fill. As soon as the scale and NSV's stop - I'll go back for another. Still a big sissy - but at least I know what I'm in for.

Jacole - oh your post brought back a flood of memories. I cannot wait to see your after pic! Congratulations on getting your band next month. I hope the insurance doesn't give you any hard times and it goes smoothly. I remember looking at all the before/after pics before my surgery, and I would always ask myself, "will I ever be able to post pics on here", It was such a good feeling when I finally posted my 6 & 9 months comparrison shots. It was a NSV for me. Again, I am looking forward to seeing your progress!
