    Hair Loss

Yeah the 3 month mark seems to be just about right. At the 3rd month I started seeing globs of hair in my hand when I washed my hair, then a ton more on the floor when I blow dried. It was scary. But as they say, it will grow back. You will see lots of "baby hair" in the more skimpy areas and they will kind of stick up. I am 5 mths out of surgery and I think I can finally say, the globs has stopped. Now it is down to strands. Lots of it, but just not globs. So that is giving me an indication that the hair loss is slowing down. Plus I ordered this prodcut from a friend from "it works" and I can't wait to try it. It is for hair and nails. It is packed with Vitamins and minerals for hair.

After surgery care? Need your input!

This makes me feel better that I am not being too over dramatic. I have my two week post op tomorrow and I think I will talk to them about it. I just feel was easily dismissed.
  5. I should think so! I'm about 3 weeks out and feeling relatively normal. Everyone is different of course but you should be able to move around just fine. The only thing you might struggle with is your energy level-- be sure to get enough Protein so you can spend the day sightseeing without needing a nap! I'm planning a trip to NY for xmas and I'm hoping all that walking around will do me some real good
  6. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks on clear liquids! One more week to go! I'm getting really bored on the liquids, and can't wait for the next stage! Any good recommendations for mushies?

    Hair Loss

I started losing my hair between 3and 4 months out. I lost a good bit of the volume of my hair. I started taking biotin and within a week it has dramatically decreased. I don't know if it's coincidence but I'll take it
  8. @ DebbieDeb....wow, eating 1000 calories a day and working out 5-6 days a week....and you're stuck on a plateau.....that's discouraging....I've been at 145 for 7 weeks and I think I'm getting 1500-1700 calories in and I should be at 1200-1400.....I've been grazing too much so I really need to concentrate as I feel I'm slipping into some bad habits and denial. So this week I am really going to work on tracking my food intake. I'm 5 lbs from goal but 10 lbs from where I want to be; surely I can do this. And you can too.....maybe increase your water intake? I'm also going to increase my workout by 15 minutes and see if that helps. Let's check in again next Monday.

    Watching grass grow

All of the above is great advice. I also made a list of things I wanted to do, a kind of bucket list of things after weightloss, that were not possible/ fun at my highest weight. Even only 8 weeks out, I have already managed some and it is very motivating. I collected recipes that I knew would be bariatric friendly, too. I made a binder for them so they would be ready to go when I was. My family has since implemented a "new recipe" night every Saturday where we cook and test one out together. (Makes a great replacement for eating out.) Check out the Food Before and After thread link below for lots of pics of yummy healthy food people eat post op for some great inspiration. Food before/after Hang in there, you can make this time count for sure!
  10. So today im 3 weeks post op. Im still on pucc line for nutrition. Surgeon said maybe nxt thursday hell take it out. I was down 39 lbs but I have gained 10 since being on this nutrition. Surgeons not concerned. He says its all liquids and once im off theme weight will come off. Im basically starting over. I wasnt able to drink nething until this past weekend. W.o the nutrition id be so dehyrated. Im lucky if im getting 5-10oz fluids in. I was given permission to start trying liquids again. Im good with water, G2 & sf popcicles. Just made some noodles and im drinking the broth.so far so good. I bought some girl scout thin mint creamer for coffee today. I dont drink coffee but I was going to add some to my proteon shakes to see if that helps my stomache tolerate it. So far not hungry or thirsty. Im actually scared to try stuff. Dr said once I tolerate fluids again I can start a few bites of yogurt. Im so scared. Did neone else feel like this??

Anyone up for training for a 5K?

I am not a doctor, but I watch How I met your Mother and Dougie Howser sells deodorant now.... sooo . I take 200ml liquid advil with my morning Water. My thinking is that the gel passes quickly through my pouch and into my "low stomach" for absorbing. The liquid disolves as soon as the gel melts so it does not sit and erode the band. I don't take more than 200ml a day and not more than 4x a week. I do not have any fill yet. I will re-examine the advil when I have some restriction. Friday AM Eliptical 1.75 miles - 30 minutes - 165 BPM

Anyone up for training for a 5K?

HI 2big4u Just last week when I was in my Surgeons office getting my date for the operation. They gave me a book Lap Band Owner’ Manual the nurse opened it to a page and pointed out to me that for Life I was not to take Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, or Aspirin That they could over time erode my small pouch to only take Tylenol.

    Sooo hungry!

How many weeks out are u?
  15. nervousnellie

    Sooo hungry!

Do you think it's head hunger, or real stomach hunger? I'm one week out today and I have stomach pains (kinda like a cramp) and I wonder if it's hunger. I just still don't feel good enough to even think about solids (even if it is real hunger). I don't even know if that makes sense....haha!

    Loose skin

If you do a search on this topic you will find hundreds of posts on this topic. I know as a newbie loose skin and hair loss were two of the biggies that concerned me. I recently went back and posted a picture of myself 11 months out from surgery exposing all of my goods on an thread titled - "My top 10 ways to prevent loose skin." I'm convinced genetics and how long you spent over weight have the most influence on whether or not you will have excess skin. I also was a sloooow loser. I once read it takes skin 2-3 months to adjust every time you lose. There were times my thighs look horrific and a few months later they snapped back into place. If you lose too much too quickly, your skin may newer fully snap back. My loose skin is limited to my lower stomach. I have had two very large babies and my lower abdomen had Freddy Kruger stretch marks on it. There is no way that's going back to normal without a tummy tuck! There's likely some tell-take signs you will have loose skin in areas. For example, if you have fat pockets that start right above your elbows, you will probably have bat wings. I carried most of my excess weight in my mid-section, so it doesn't surprise me this is where I have excess skin. It doesn't look bad standing up, but when I bend over, I look like I would whelp a litter of puppies! What I can tell you is part of this journey is accepting our new bodies. I decided to post a pic of myself exposed because I noticed most people are wearing pants and long shirts in their after photos on this site. It always made me wonder what was lurking underneath. Many of us will be left with more excess skin than what we are comfortable with. Some can afford plastics. Many cant. Regardless, I wouldn't trade the new active lifestyle I live for anything. For reference, I am a woman in my mid-40's. 5'7" and was 241 at my heaviest. I was 226 the day of surgery. I was 152 when I took this picture a few days ago. I am currently 7 pounds away from my stretch goal of 145. I haven't exercised with much consistently during the 11 months post surgery. I took this photo as my "before" picture and hope to see how tone I can get after I start doing squats, sit-ups, and lifting weights! I have to say I'm a tad more motivated now that I can actually SEE my muscles! Who would have thunk I had abdominal muscles? Albeit pretty separated post child-bearing, I'm sure!
  17. What to expect during this journey? Any food recommendations during the full liquid phase
  18. I understand your frustration! My surgeon quit 2 weeks before my surgery!! I had to find a new surgeon at a different hospital that would take my entire workup and get the surgery before the 1st of January due to insurance resetting. I did find 1 and he did my surgery the same week that I was supposed to get it done in the 1st place. Sometimes things get in the way and throw you on your butt but get up and continue to work hard for what you have been waiting for! I hope it all works out the way it should for you!! I am going to Hell....

Wether or not it is fried, 3-5 small shrimp are not that dense. Track it in your tracker and move on. For me, the thought of fried anything doesn't appeal to me at all, but I love grilled shrimp. It is helpful to look at your choices in context and not as black or white/good or bad.
  23. What is the best/smallest thing you have chosen to eat for maximum Protein? I am 4 months out. I have lost just about 55 lbs (now normal weight) However, in the midst of all this I am also going through extreme family stress. 2 weeks ago hair started falling out in clumps. I know I'm not getting enough food and I have to force myself to eat every day (stress reaction). I was eating better before the stress so I know its' not the sleeve as far as quantity. I am finally able to eat chewable Vitamins (about 3 weeks now). I haven't tried taking Iron because I wasn't able to tolerate it before surgery. I cannot seem to tolerate any Protein Drink, Soup and never could handle Beans (texture makes me gag). I've thought about protein shots but have been told its not the right type of protein. Do you

    Loose skin

I agree with the stretch mark theory. I lost 100 pounds in 5 months (112 lbs since pre op diet) and have loose skin in only the one place I had stretch marks, my lower abdomen. The reason stretch marks reside there was due to a past pregnancy in which I gained 70 pounds in a short period of time.. The stretch marks were flat and faded, but the area refuses to flatten back out. I was worried about my chest, but it has improved slightly in the past few weeks. I'm going to give it more time, especially after I hit my goal weight. My friend had some results tightening up sagging skin with a silicone body wrap she wore under her clothes everyday for awhile. You have to be quite consistent with it and it's not cheap.
  25. Hi! I'm about an hour and a half north of Pittsburgh. I went thru Hamot Bariatrics in Erie with Dr Ali. I was self pay and his total cost was $14,125. They have a monthly support group and lifetime support with the nutritionalist. I am very happy I chose them! I am only three weeks out, but feel free ta ask any questions!
