This week I noticed that after being down just over 40lbs my seat belt retracts in the car when I get out. I used to have to pull on it to make it go back in place.

Hi.... I had surgery on Weds, 4th September 2013. I had taken Thursday and Friday off thinking that I would go back to work on Saturday 7th September. Wrong. I had to take 7th & 8th September off too. I went into work on Monday 9th September. I am a police officer, I am at management level. This was too soon. Even to sit at a desk..... My advice would be to take 2 weeks off work after surgery. I am fit, active and can cope with pain. You need time to let the wounds heal and adjust to the new feelings inside your body and head.

How Long? (Recovery Time)
hungryforchange replied to HeatherA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would suggest 2 weeks off as well. I started to feel almost normal around day 12. My port didn't hurt so much. I could move around without pain and put on my own socks and shoes and no longer felt like I needed a nap in the middle of the day. -
Has Anyone lost weight and felt restriction after 1st fill?
countrygirljtl replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on October 4, 2007, had no appetite and lost 8 pounds in that first week on the liquids only. since then I have had 2 fills and have had no restriction gained back about 7 pounds, feeling very frustrated. I believe I have 1.5 cc's in my 10 cc band. At my hospital at Lahey, I think they have a specific amt that they fill for each time you come, in increments. I do have friends who went to the same hospital who got there restriction after 1 or 2 fills. I go for my 3rd fill this coming week, I am afraid of what the shock of true restriction will be for me, but I need for the band to start working for me, at least these postings give me hope. I need to lose this wieght, my hopes are going down. Janet -
Has Anyone lost weight and felt restriction after 1st fill?
candy8360 replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know about the weight loss, got my first fill last thursday. I've been really tight and can feel restriction. But, I still am not eating the suggested 1 cup. I probably am eating around 2 cups. I have a hard time swallowing unless I take really small bites and chew really well. I think I may have overdone it at lunch today. I am STUFFED. I am definitely eating less than before the fill. I've heard though that the stomach can settle, and even though I feel a lot of restriction now, I may not feel as much after a few weeks. I HOPE I can write back soon and say that I have lost weight!!! I should though, because I am eating much less. Last wednesday, the night before the fill, I ate 11 hot wings. Yesterday for lunch, I only wanted 4. That is a big difference. and, my doctor told me he wasn't that strict about eating before a fill, but I've read where others say their doctor says not to eat. I asked my doctor because he had not told me not to eat. He DID tell me to eat soft foods for a few meals afterwards to find out how my stomach handled the fill. I have a 10cc band and got a 3cc fill. -
Has Anyone lost weight and felt restriction after 1st fill?
Elisekc replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm on my third week after surgery and I have lost 26 pounds. I don't have a fill for 4 weeks, but do get the full sensation when I am full. I want to know how can you eat more than the current 1/4 cup after the fill? I see that the normal menu calls for about a cup of food. How am I ever going to be able to eat that. -
Has Anyone lost weight and felt restriction after 1st fill?
thenume replied to swstacey1977's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had two fills so far, each time it takes about two weeks for me to be able to eat a little less than before (it takes ny fills sometime to kick in). My first fill, which was 2cc's in a 10cc band, there wasn't to much of a difference. My second fill which was 1cc took about 3 weeks to kick in. I can still eat quite a bit sometimes, but the satisfaction of being full lasts ALOT longer. I ate a meal of grilled king fish, a table spoon if rice and salad ( I ate all of it ) at 4:30pm on Sat. by the time I was ready to go to sleep for the night @ 12am I was still full and had taken a short nap at 6pm. So you do notice a difference. Also as trapped inside said make sure you chew, chew, chew! -
Hey everyone ! My first fill is tomorrow and I'm so scared ! I not only have a huge fear of needles, I also have a very low pain threshold. I am DREADING going in tomorrow - and I think it's mostly "fear of the unknown" - even though I've read all there is to read on fills. Here's the kicker ... I'm also VERY excited about getting my first fill and starting to lose some weight (I haven't lost since the week after surgery - and have basically just been maintaining) Anyone else have this irrational fear ? -------------------------------- UPDATE Well, after barely sleeping last night because I was so scared (I *TOLD* you I was a wus) - it wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected. I went in - laid on the exam table and told the doctor I was scared LOL. He had me hold my shirt up just past my port and told me not to move. Then he went in. I have to admit that I did feel it - and it was NOT pleasant .. but no where near what I was expecting. I felt the pressure, and I also felt the "gush" of Fluid. He put 5cc's in (he said I have a 15cc band) and sent me for my barium swallow (which was fine) I bled a bit (enough to saturate a small gauze) - and it's sore now - about as much pain as when they have to take blood from the back of my hand - but I've had no "down time" since leaving the Dr's office. I go back in a month - and I feel a lot better about it ... because even though it was uncomfortable/painful - at least I know what to expect. Thanks for all your replies -

Post Op Questions
monica.londono replied to heather200202's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! Welcome to the post op community !! I was on clear liquids for one week after and then started total liquids for an extra week, so I just started puréed food on the 3 week. Also my doctor didn't told me to start my protein shake and vitamins until I was 1 and a half months post op and I had no problems what so ever, but I'm NOT a doctor so maybe you have other needs different to mine. My advice would be to just give him a call and explain your tummy is not agreeing with the protein and vitamins, and ask if you can start in a couple of days or if you can start with less and increment it little by little. Good luck !! -
Be careful with bread/doughy products - even at 6 weeks out, they're tough to "swallow!"

Well, I have to say that I am a bad patient and I haven't followed post-diet guidelines very well. I think I started eating mushies on Day 4 post op. I had about four tablespoons of mashed potatoes and I waited for something to explode inside but everything was fine. My surgeon doesn't put any fill in during surgery so I'm still wide open, and I swear the hunger pains were so bad I couldn't stand it. Since then, I've had well cooked vegetables, including some mashed sweet potato last night. I ate about half of a rotisserie chicken breast with it, eaten in small bites and chewed well. I've not had a stuck episode or any PB'ing yet. I've had several very moist turkey meatballs and tonight I'm having some grilled lemon pepper fish with a small salad. Also, my surgeon isn't as strict as some - he says Clear liquids day one, all liquids days 2 and 3, mushies from day 4 on through 3 weeks. I've just introduced some normal foods here and there to make sure and I'm doing fine. I told him yesterday during my post-op followup that I had turkey meatballs and he didn't even flinch, said I was healing very well and not to worry about weight loss until my first fill, which is now scheduled for May 5th. But to answer your question, I've had mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, refried Beans with cheese, yogurt, instant oatmeal, cottage cheese, Soup including the noodles, sugar free pudding cups, sugar free Jello cups, sugar free pudding "mousse" cups, the list goes on

Sooooo Ticked! Should I Laugh Or Cry! Bmi 39.18!
Silly Phylly posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Saw my Doc and got the official BMI of 39.18! Less than a pound away from being approved by BCBS AL! Ughhhh! See my internal med Doc next week to start the 6 months of diet and frustration! I wish I could just go straight to Alvarez, but I know I need to try to get it covered by insurance. The money that I would self pay with needs to be put aside for any cosmetic issues that I may have in the future. Oh well, nothing worthwhile is ever easy! Par for the course for me! God knows best and He will see me through! I just need you all to help keep me sane through all this. -
I am self pay and had my first appt with my surgeon the third week of April. I am scheduled for surgery June 9th. I would have gone quicker but I had some timing issues with scheduling preop stuff because of my work schedule.

Emotional Changes Post op.
May212013 replied to liteNsun's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can say this.... YOU WILL BE EMOTIONAL! I am not sure if its the pain killers or hormones but it happens for a couple of days maybe about a week but then it calms down. Was hard for me to do a lot of what I was told to do as far as eating and drinking. I didn't and still don't like to eat! I feel better when I don't eat mind you I only eat about a half of a spoon! I can drink about 5 oz now! I was sleeved on may 21. Do it together. Have a weigh date where you both see the progress together. Shop together. You pick and let him pick an outfit when you go shopping when the time is right! Just include him cause its not easy for anyone. I hope I helped. -
TELL ME ABOUT IT! I was in a stall for 3 weeks. It broke this weekend but then yesterday I weighed myself and I gained a lb. I guess i'm not gonna start losing lol. I'm extremely frustrated and stressed that I haven't lost in WEEKS. Maybe in your case you're building muscle and toning up and that's why the scale isn't changing. I'm sure your body is changing and you're looking better and better each week. I wouldn't focus too much on the scale. rather focus on how you feel about yourself and are you happy with how you look and embrace it. The scale will move eventually. Good luck! and how exciting! YOU"RE GETTING MARRIED! WOO HOO

The longest stall in the 1st 6months?
CJsmom84 replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should increase your calories. Thats what they said each add 100 per week til you begin to move again. So if your at 700 move to 800 and if the weight starts to come off leave at 800 if not move to 900 the following week. -

The longest stall in the 1st 6months?
Holly5.3 replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a good point, about increasing cals. I'm at my first stall, but I started exercising so I figured my body is adjusting. I've been at 600 cals. since my surgery, 10/11/12, maybe I should increase cals to 700 now. Hope it works! -
The longest stall in the 1st 6months?
CJsmom84 replied to ArtSong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Then try zigzagging your calories day to day. It will confuse your metabolism. And you should start burning it again. I'm sorry you've been stalled hope that you begin to lose again soon.
