    I NEED HELP!!

Hello great people I hope you all are well...I'm in need of some serious help...I joined this site in May of 2018 before having gastric sleeve surgery in August 2018....I was doing great feeling really good for a long time but the past year I have been having some serious tummy issues. First I would like to tell you all that I am seeing my doctor that did my surgery but he sends me to my gastroenterologist to have certain test done plus i also see my primary care at least every 5-6 months so I'm definitely on top of that, So my problem is several issues, I have chronic gastritis, low magnesium which can be fatal, I've been in the hospital at least (4) times already this year for dehydration because i have flare ups from the gastritis and then that's when i found out about the low magnesium, I barely intake 600 calories a day and this has been going on for a long time, I do take all the required vitamins every day faithfully, I was hospitalized two weeks ago and magnesium was low again they gave me a shot of magnesium and the ER doctor was very concerned so I had already had an appointment for September 23 with the gastro doctor but she asked me to see if I can get in sooner which they did accommodate me and let me come in the day after I left the hospital. My symptoms are nauseousness, diarrhea and when I have the flareups i literally cannot eat for about a week and I know this is not good nor healthy, I have changed my diet to pescatarian because land meat was making me even more sick and I know that I am malnutrition-ed....I am really trying every thing...I have not been on the site in a long time because of changing jobs and it's really busy...I apologize for being so long winded but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and if you have any advice for me?? I have a test coming up on Monday for an upper GI, and blood work from my primary care and gastro on Wednesday, he wants to check my magnesium and they have put me on 500 mg of magnesium supplements. I really feel bad most days for the past year. Any feed back is greatly appreciated 🙂

    First food after bypass

Diet progression varies depending on your surgeon. I think I was about three weeks out when I moved to soft food, but it's been several years so I don't really remember. Chicken can be tough for some people the first few weeks/months. I think I was fine with cheese, though - I remember eating cheese sticks when I was early out.
  5. that sounds really unusual for seven weeks out. I'd contact your clinic. It could be something like a stricture - if so, they need to get that "fixed".

    Post-op blood thinners

I had a couple of injections in the hospital but they stopped them because I was up walking so much. At home I took Eliquis for a couple of weeks.
  7. Hi Everyone, My name is Emma, I'm new to the forums and I'm hoping to find some answers. I'm 7 weeks post op and have never had a pain free day since my surgery. Any time I eat anything at all I have debilitating abdominal pain after around 5 minutes, and often times I vomit all of what I consume. When I say consume, I'm not talking a vast amount of food, I mean around 2-3 spoonfuls of mashed food. I do manage to drink water (I don't drink much else, I never really have) and that stays down, but 9 times out of 10 I get a very painful and bloated abdomen once I have drank. Again, I'm not drinking in large quantities or rushing what I do consume, so I just don't understand why I'm having such issues post op. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience to what I am having or if there's someone out there who could shed some light on what's going on with me. I'm honestly getting to the point where I'm regretting the decision to go ahead with the surgery; its making my life a complete misery! Thanks to anyone who's read this far, I hope you can offer me some advice. Emma
  8. Ok had the same thing. Dr said it was too much bile going into the gut causing loose stools, diarrhea and foul, very foul smelling stool. Dr gave me colestipol prescription granules and all of it disappeared overnight so after months and months of all this, the colestipol stopped it in one day. Anyway I now am down to once or twice a week taking the colestipol and I am normal again. No diarrhea, no loose stool, no foul smelling stools and no more very foul constant gas etc no nothing. Ps if I don’t take granules at least once a week it will come back in 2-3 days all the foul everything. But once I take it again it goes away in a day. The exact name of my prescription is colestipol hydrochloride for oral suspension 500 grams

    First month weight loss

I lost 23 pounds the first month... but I was also over 300 pounds. Also, there something called the 'three week stall' that many people get in the beginning of their journey. That skipped me. There are thousands of posts about the three week stall so you can look it up if you want. You may be going through that yourself. It usually happens within the first month after surgery and can last up to 3 weeks.

    September Ops

A little update. Sleeved on 15. Rough first few days. Slept most of 15th when not being sick, managed some water and a few licks of yoghurt today. Mainly gas pain and bloating. Ended up with water tebtion after surgery so had to be catheterd, sent me home with one until Monday. Completely wiped out and emotional. Rollercoaster day. Hoping things start to improve as the week goes on. Bonus - an not hungry!

    How fast is too fast?

people lose at all different rates depending on a bunch of different factors - age, gender, metabolic rate, whether or not you lost a bunch of weight before surgery, body composition (% of muscle), genetics, activity level, etc. As long as you're following your clinic's plan, you're fine. you're also about to hit the infamous "three-week stall" that a vast majority of us experience (it's not always the third week, but sometime within the first 4-6 weeks post surgery). Your weight loss will likely stall for 1-2 weeks (and for a few, three weeks) before it takes off again. it seems like most people lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month (but of course you'll always find a few outliers who lose more or less than that), but i'm guessing you'll end up at the higher end of that range - and maybe even a little over, which is fine. You're normal!

    Immediate NSV after VSG!

Same here. Isn’t it wonderful ? I was in 2 meds for BP - am 3 weeks post op and without meds I am at 120/82

    Post-op blood thinners

Post-op blood thinners are extremely common. Just like most things bariatric related, the duration varies from surgeon to surgeon. I'm scheduled for VSG next week and I believe my surgeon does 10 days. I would say if you have confirmed with your surgeon and have nothing indicating blood thinners would be unsafe (clotting disorder, etc.) the stay the course!
  17. I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there in the same boat, or who has gone through something similar. I had Lap Band surgery in 2014. Ultimately gained back all my weight and more. After the birth of my youngest daughter, I underwent a revision to Duodenal Switch in August of 2019 at 285 pounds. Over the course of the next 6 months, I also got sober, and ultimately, at this point, I'm down to 130-135, having lost 150 pounds. I was sitting at about 160 pounds in January, and have lost the additional 25-30 since then. In January of this year, I started struggling with dysphagia. For the most part, I would vomit solid food back up, no matter how slow I ate, if I drank or didn't drink. Protein, veggies, carbs, you name it, I tried to make it work. With Covid and such, it was April of this year before I managed to get an endoscopy, which showed a severe hiatal hernia (which had not been present at the time of my lap band, or my revision surgery). Had that corrected in May, went about 8 weeks of glorious being able to eat again, and then it was like someone slammed on the brakes. Back to being unable to keep solid food down. Worse than before. Many, many days vomiting liquid too. The day I had my most recent endoscopy I was so dehydrated the anesthesiologist ultimately had to do the IV on me, after 3 nurses tried and failed, even with ultrasound. During that procedure, they found that my gastric pouch has a greater than 90 degree turn in it, resulting in the upper part of my stomach being dilated and food being unable to travel back up, in order to go down. I'm having another revision surgery tomorrow to correct the issue. My understanding is it is just a revision of my stomach pouch, which with duodenal switch, is basically similar to the gastric sleeve. Has anyone else had a revision surgery for medical reasons, while at a normal weight? I've struggled to maintain my weight at 130-135 for the last several months. And by struggled I mean I've been trying not to lose too much more weight. I am definitely down to what I would call a healthy weight on my frame. I'm wearing a size 6 pant, small/medium tops, etc. Any problem areas are really skin based at this point I think, not weight. If anyone has gotten this far, and has in fact had a revision while at a normal weight, what was your diet like after surgery? I'm obviously going to discuss this with my surgeon as well, but all the literature I've been provided with thus far is for weight loss patients. The goal being to keep calories low, protein high, jump start weight loss, all that jazz. I'm just interested in how it will work for me, being as my weight goal is maintenance, not loss.

    OOTD

I'm doing a Mud Run in a couple weeks and I confess that I have spent more time trying to figure out what to wear that weekend vs actual training! Got these running pants and sports bra delivered today and decided this is what I'm gonna wear. Suitable for getting muddy, yes? I guess now I can spend more time preparing for the run! 😂 P.S. Yes, I still wear scar tape on my arms!

  20. So I've been taking the ProCare Health One A Day Vitamin with 45 mg of Iron for probably about a month now. In the beginning I had no issues with them (whether I had food in my stomach or not) but for the last week or two I feel nauseous for like 15 min or more after taking them. To be fair I don't always have something in my stomach when taking them so that's understandable, but many times I at least have some fruit or an egg before taking it in the am. Just wondering if anyone else has issues too? What do you eat before taking it? I wonder if I should just switch to taking it after dinner instead. After I've eaten something of more substance? Not sure why it was fine initially and now I'm having issues.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Good afternoon everyone! I am brand new to this site, but would love to join in on the fun! I have my surgery scheduled for September 21st! That's only 5 days away! I've been on the liquid diet for just over a week now, cheated once which I regret now, but I am back on track and ready to do this!

    Hello, I'm John

Glad to hear you are doing so well. That first week can be very challenging. Hopefully, the restlessness will ease. Good luck with your return to the office.
  23. Hopefully, some of you out there can share your experiences post surgery in regards to your initial weight loss. 🧐 I had my WLS last week on 9/7, so I’m about 9 days post op. With that said, I’m excited about my journey but a little concerned. As of this morning I have lost approximately 18.7 lbs since my surgery date. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that I’m dropping weight, I just wasn’t expecting to lose so much in such little time. 😳 Any feedback would be appreciated!
  24. I just wanted to relay my sons story. He is a 15 year old sophomore in high school. He weighed 280 pounds and his 6‘1“ in height. We had tried every manner of diet/weight loss regiment to no avail. I knew his weight was a major issue for him psychologically and that he wanted to change. I researched all options from medication to surgery. After much research, we decided on the gastric balloon. No surgery. No recovery. Can be reversed easily. He had the balloon placed on August 20th. As of today, he’s lost 18 pounds. He’s been doing very well with the whole situation. He had about three days of post procedure issues with nausea and vomiting. These were easily controlled with medication. He hasn’t taken any medication since a couple of days after the procedure. I’ve been trying to keep him on 1000 cal a day diet. That has been going well. I am slowly introducing an exercise regiment for him… A rowing machine. I’m going to start pushing that more intensely to a 5 day a week 30 minute protocol. I would like to avoid having the balloon increased in size, which can be done. I have been looking into introducing semaglutide as a possible supplement if the weight loss stalls. But, balloon plus exercise will have to fail for me to consider adding a medication. Anyway, I just wanted to put the story out there for those who may be in a similar situation. ByAnyway, I just wanted to put the story out there for those who may be in a similar situation. By the way, I had the procedure done in Tijuana. His goal is to get to 225 pounds.
  25. @MandoGetsSleeved I appreciate the kind words, I've been struggling with the fact that my weight plateaued for the last month or so and it's been making me feel like a complete failure and that I wasted my money on the surgery since I was wasting it (stretching the pouch out). I downloaded Baritastic and have put in my current breakfast, hopefully it helps keep me on track without making me crazy (I know My Fitness Pal had a tendency to do that to me). @blackcatsandbaddecisions Thanks for the advice, I'll look into eating a salad or two throughout the week to keep my calorie intake down. I know I haven't been doing an amazing job in eating the right foods, but I thought that if I was keeping to ten ounces or so, I'd be fine. I guess that's incorrect, so now I got back to counting calories...my least favorite form of weight loss program. I'm considering doing/am started on a pouch reset. I'm worried that I've stretched out my pouch to double it's original size and from what little research I've done, that appears to be the only non-surgical way to shrink it back. If anyone has any advice (including "Don't Do It!) about Pouch Resets, please let me know.
