Bread is not on the post op diet. I get you wanting it, but say good bye for at least a year. You should be limiting your carbs to 30 a day. My typical day goes like this, Protein shake for Breakfast, greek yogurt plain with sf syrup for snack. Some type of lean meat and a veggie for lunch. A low sodium V8 for a snack and then for dinner lean meat and a veggie. If I need a snack at night it is usually a piece of cheese. Read the labels of everything, you would be surprised where they hide carbs.

Big Deal Tomorrow
MaineJackie replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Skiing was amazing! I took it slow.....stuck to my half day plan........and thoroughly enjoyed myself! It was perfect weather---bright sun, no wind and about 20 degrees. I packed food.....didn't have any snack shack food. (Greek yogurt, Kashi bar, cheese stick......) Now I am home, showered, resting......and yes, my legs are sore but it feels so good. Next year? I will be skinny enough to get new ski gear.......... -
How long does everyone stay full?
topazz replied to Niki1617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also feel hunger after 2.5 hours. I usually take a protein shake, yogurt, cottage cheese and fruit or cheese stick if I get hungry. I only have 2 cc's right now. I go for another fill on tues, so I am hoping to see a difference. -
Mexico Doctor Questions
deedadumble replied to tampa's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had Dr. Lopez, but had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta, so my experience may be a little different than those of others. Pre-op diet - two to three Protein shakes a day (I used EAS or Premier) and a sensible dinner (protein and veggie) Post-op diet - 2 days of clear liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids (pudding, Jello yogurt, strained Soups included), 2 weeks of blended/pureed, 2 weeks of soft solids Does the Doctor provide pain meds - Yes. I received 2 sample packs of ketorolac tromethamine (6 pills each) when I checked out of the hospital. Does the Dr./Nurse speak English clearly. I will be on my own. - The doctors speak very good English, the nurses in PV do not. Is there a TV and internet in the hospital. - Yes Do they give a leak test before leaving? -- I only had 2. One during surgery and 1 the day after surgery. How were incisions closed? Will I need a follow up in the states to have something removed -- The incisions are closed with internal, dissoluble sutures and external glue. No need for followup. Some of my internal stitches started spitting (coming out of the skin), which I am told is fairly normal. Hope this helps! -

Two Week Follow Appt Today
My Big Day 3/15/2011 replied to Can'tweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job on your weight loss! I went for my two week post-op today as well and am down 19.6 lbs from last weight pre-op. They say that is the norm to lose between 20 to 30 lbs the first month post-op so I seem to be right on track. I was however lacking in the fluids department and need to up the fluid intake. I wish my doctor would allow this list but I am on a strict low carb/no starch diet until I reach my goal. Only protein, fruit, and veggies, milk and yogurt allowed. No oatmeal, cereal, mashed potatoes, etc! It's probably a good thing b/c those are the things I ate too much of before surgery. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting the food list. -
Worried about my 1st day back at work tomorrow

How about fat free yogurt? -
I think Oz did an Ok job and seemed to have changed his mind since a few years ago. I agree.....six months out and she is eating 4 spoons of yogurt for lunch? I am 3 weeks out and eat more than that. Did anyone notice neither banded woman had a Breakfast? I also agree that doing this sooner rather than later is a wise choice.

Hi fellow bandsters! I'm 5 days post-op and I'm dying of hunger! Lol not really, but I'm seeking something more substantial than the broths, shakes, yogurt and milk I've been living on since Monday. I am allowed "strained low-fat cream soups" so I am looking for suggestions! I'm preparing for a trip to the grocery store tonight so what do you recommend? I'm not very familiar with cream Soups so input is appreciated :-)
-
Also try yogurt, cottage cheese, pureed soups, any cooked and mashed beans, apple sauce. I don't think you should try lettuce yet. Just eat very slowly and you will do fine. Joan

I'm being banded tomorrow and was supposed to follow a 2 week pre-op diet. I only lasted 6 days, as it was only yogurt and cottage cheese... way too much dairy for me. I was nausious most of the time. Now I'm panicing, thinking that my liver will get in the way and there will be lots of complications, or no band. Take my advice... stick to the diet. I'm very scared right now!!!

16 days post open. Side pain
skinnyme123 replied to Angelkeeper4's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Laurarogersclark, I don't know how I lost so fast. My surgeon said its almost scandalous. But I haven't lost any in 10days so I'm definitely at a stall. I also was very sick prior. On steroids on and off for a year, pneumonia that turned into laryngitis that had me down for 5 months until my first surgery this year which was a sinus surgery. Then down again for recovery after that. It was a hellatious year for me. My body maybe just went wtf?!? Don't judge your weight loss to others. I was also 336lbs when I had surgery. The bigger you are the faster you lose. Just trust the process and your instincts. Do what your doctor says and you'll do fantastic we all will!! I also can't stomach much solid food right now. I eat mostly chicken soup, yogurt, cottage cheese and fudge pops! Lol oh and frozen yogurt pops...yum. So maybe not eating much solid food...I don't know. And oh yeah, left aide pain where the rny is...still hurts... at times, a lot. -
So What happens.....
Catherine55 replied to cheechtrish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seriously. . suck it up!! Check with your doctor, but you should be able to eat plenty of yummy things during the full liquids phase. Why don't you buy some turkey chili and blend it with some chicken broth and Greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream)? Or you can do banana smoothies with skim milk and maybe a dash of cinnamon and sugar? You have to get creative. It's worth a trip to Whole Foods or some other spot to buy some delicious soups that you will enjoy -- then just blend them up and thin them with broth if you have to. This phase really does not have to be a huge deprivation phase -- there are plenty of delicious liquid things that you can enjoy without going off the rails. BTW, when you get to mushies. . don't forget about FF refried beans and cheese. . yum. Was a staple for me during that phase! Best wishes, Catherine -
Thanks everyone for replying! So, this morning I'm taking SF2009's advice and did my diary for today ahead of time. So, I cut the shakes, the yogurt and the amount of cottage cheese I have in the morning to .75 cups and it makes a huge difference! Calories 1,219 Fat 63.4 Carbs 44.7 Protein 124 My protein's a still kind of high, but I know I can work on getting that down. I kept hearing the doc say protein, protein, protein and went crazy getting food high in protein Julia BTW, I'm 5'2 and my doc said I should 60-90 grams a day

Purée days - how do you get enough protein?
GassyGurl replied to ValerieLynn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I ate buffalo chicken dip, ricotta bake, pimento cheese and yogurt. Google for recipes. Everything was already soft, so I didn't puree. I just chewed, and chewed. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I fly every 1-2 months sometimes 10-12 hours one way and never had any big issues with my band. I find it is best to request low calorie meals to eat ( they usually serve fish, eggs or softer kind of foods) and if I eat slow the food never gets stuck. I always prepare a just in case plan and bring yogurt or a soft kind of food to eat in case my band disagrees with the food served during the long flights.

Post op liquid diet - can you lose too much?
Sistersue posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. Has me on a strict clear liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. In the first week I've been losing 1 to2 lbs a day. Yesterday I lost 5.2 lbs in one day. I was starving all day. I even thought about having some yogurt last night but didn't. I know I didn't burn 15000 calories yesterday. Does 5 lbs in a day seem like too much. I left a message for my Dr but today is surgery day for him. -
Anyone got any advise for a soon-to-be bander??
tnt21705 replied to shutterbug6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I got to say is gasX strips, hot tea, hot chicken broth, applesauce, and DanActive yogurt drinks. That's what I ate for the first two weeks. Follow the after surgery diet (don't jump ahead not matter how good you think you feel) Walk, walk , walk as much as comfortable after surgery to get the gas moving. Don't get discouraged if you feel terrible that first week. I did not feel better until my 9th or 10th day out. Everyday I feel better. Somedays my tummy feels good and some days not. On the days my tummy is bothering me I walk on the treadmill and that usually helps too. I find that I have gas in the tummy and it helps it work its way out. Hope this helps. -
I've searched and searched this 3 week stall thing, but I'm not getting the answers I need and desparately need the help of my pro sleevers please!! I'm working on my 4th week of being sleeved. I'm on full liquids which include creamed Soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, etc. Since last monday the scale has not moved at all!! I'm stuck and need some advice. (I dont weigh everyday. I weight about every other day or every 3 days.) This week is the first time I've been able to actually get water/fluids/thick fluids down with ease! I've been struggling getting all my 64oz of Water in and my 80g of Protein a day. But yesterday was great and I was able to drink all my fluids and consume all my protein. Here is what I have scheduled for todays menu: Morning: Bariatric Hot Chocolate- 15g protein, 80cal BF: Zoi greek yogurt w/splenda- 11g protein, 100cal Drink throught the day: Syntrax nectar Cappachino- 20oz, 48g protein, 0cal L: 6oz of cream of potatoe Soup blended- 2g protein, 120cal S: Premier Protein shake- 30g protein, 160cal D: blended cottage cheese w/seeded cucumber & tomatoe- 14g protein, 100cal Plus about 3 16oz bottles of water throughout the day as well. So, my question is... where am I going wrong? What can I do to help move the scales and my pants sizes along?? I'm getting discouraged and a bit frustrated! I'm following the plan to a "T" and I'm getting most of my essentials in. I just dont know what's wrong!! I understand that my body is still healing and I need to give it time, but I expected a little movement since the past 2 wks. At least something!! Please HELP!!!! Where is TIFFYKINS or LILMISSDIVA???

The best meal I ever ate
ybnormal replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Meggie the TJ's cottage cheese and their greek yogurt are amazingly awesome too! Lynn is on her way to Vegas as we speak and as soon as she gets here (probably about 4 days drive) we're going to TJ's and shop. love love love Trader Joe's stuff. Tomato, icky. Not sure if that's my cup of tea, but maybe. It just seems a shame to waste it by not dunking a grilled cheese sandwich into it lol XOXO Renee` and yeah...your face does look thinner! WOOT! -
I consider myself something of a gourmand and I love well prepared beautiful food. I have made food from all cuisines and was also the head baker in a european bakery renowned in this area. But the cup of Trader Joes organic tomato Soup thinned with a half a cup of milk I just had is probably the best eating experience I have ever had. After my last week....I savored every sip and experienced it in a way I can't remember ever doing. Each sip suffused my body with the most divine feelings. My senses were 100% alive! And tomorrow- I finally get yogurt if I thin it to liquidy, I mixed a fruit at the bottom Greek yogurt thoroughly tonight and then strained the bits of fruit out. It is glistening in the fridge awaiting me. I think one new food now that I am allowed thin liquids is enough.

OK, I AM DESPERATE TO GET TO GOAL! Latest Pic
swizzly replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'll apologise in advance cos I know my approach is not 'normal' and is even a bit controversial sometimes. But it IS perfectly in line with what they do in the clinic where my care is managed (in Europe). I never had Protein shakes (which is good, cos I hate them LOL) or liquid/mushy phases -- they move you right to real food on day four post-op, and you're just meant to eat slowly and chew very thoroughly. They believe your digestive system gets confused and/or lazy (some things get lost in translation LOL) by not having 'real' food in there, so they want it right back into your system asap. They also don't approve of very low-cal eating (but they also don't give any calorie or food guidelines, apart from eating a very balanced way and not big portions obviously), so they are trying to get people to eat 800-1000 cals as soon as possible post-op. Thus I was up to 1000-1200 in a month or two, and probably 1500 by six months out. I got to my original 'goal' (arbitrary and set only by me, they don't give out goal weights in the clinic at all) in about a year or 14 months I think? I can't remember everything in detail and I'm not a tracker really. I then set another goal and am still working veryyyyy sloooooowwwwwly toward that one... But I got to my original goal fairly easily, never felt overly freaked out about calorie-counting or keeping food to the bare minimum -- oh, and I never lost my hunger except for the first two days post-op. So I've had a very normal appetite throughout (I would consider my pre-op appetite to have been relatively normal too, though -- I was not a binge eater and couldn't overeat pre-op much either, just had much more capacity of course...) and I've been able to eat anything I've tried, haven't thrown up or anything. Labs and bloodwork all doing great, two-year DEXA scan showed good bone density as well. Anyhow, I also never started exercising till I was nine months post-op, for personal reasons. That said, I do walk a lot (and now I have a fitbit, I realise I walk quite a lot!) in my normal routine, so I was doing that all along, but I joined the gym eventually and do a moderate (20 mins HIIT on elliptical, plus weights/abs) workout 2-3x per week. It's not anywhere near as ambitious as many people's workouts, that is for sure!! I like to operate on the Minimum Effective Dosage principle, in most areas of life... So I've been doing a modified paleo/primal version of eating since about nine months now, no grains, no legumes, limited sugar, etc. I do eat dairy (tons of it LOL), so I'm not a fully religious paleo eater or anything. I eat full-fat everything cos I hate processed/diet/low-fat food -- the exceptions to this are for 5:2 fasting days, and also early post-op I ate a lot of diet yogurt and sf pudding and that sort of thing, cos I thought I should I guess? I've read a lot of very good research about how to eat and I sort of make my own plan. I love coffee (and caffeine LOL), and I've read many good health benefits from it - and I've no insulin issues anyhow, so I feel free to enjoy my coffee. I've been doing 5:2 for three+ months and didn't lose any weight from it, not sure why. I read a few directional data about how it might be different/less effective for women than for men, but nothing definitive for sure. But because of some issues I was having, I now am trying a modified approach to the 5:2 as well, with a target of 700-800 cals for fasting days instead of 500. On my 'normal' food days, I usually eat between 1500-2000 cals. This is long and rambly...but the point is, there's more than one way to get to your 'goal', whether that be a certain number on the scale or clothing label, or just a certain level of improved health. And eating super-low-cal seems to really work for some people, it wouldn't work for me (not to say I wouldn't lose weight on it! Just that it triggers my anorexia issues and that my clinic wouldn't support it if they knew I was doing it); and that eating fairly healthily and 'high-cal-ish' from a VSG perspective can also work! It took me like 14 months to lose 80-ish lb (I consider that pretty fast though, but amongst many VSGers I was a very slow loser), and I was fine with that. It's taken another year to lose 10 more. So maybe the last 10 will take a year or two as well. No big whoop -- I also want to enjoy my life as it happens... Good luck to all of us, right? -
I'm glad I found it. It makes me feel better reading people questions and responses. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had a lot of regret for a couple of days. I was so miserable with nausea. I'm feel a lot better. I can't drink the protein drinks. I'm on purées so I'm get protein from my diet. I still don't know what I'm allowed to eat. So far I eat refried beans (fat free), Greek yogurt, chili, and pudding. I really want to try other things. I have tried everything to get the protein shakes in. I feel like I'm going to vomit every time I try to drink one. I three different kinds, isopure, inspire, and carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added).

I don't care for the Greek yogurt either, too tangy for me. Although in casserolesas sour cream, it is fine. I had to play with it to 'sweeten' it up. sugar free jelly'and Stivia or Sweet 'N Low help a lot!! You are so welcome. I just had my cottagecheese for breakfast, at this point I can eat a half cup, so that is 13 grams rightoff the bat!!! Yay! Since the beginning, I start the day and end the day with a cupof milk. I really, really did not want to lose my hair and haven't, so "mission accomplished". LoL I also take Biotin. I don't know if it helps, but the nurse at thedoctors office suggested it and I know it can't hurt! If I think of anything else, I'llsure send it your way. I like fish, I know you said you don't. I do NOT like fishy fish.I love Cod.....grilled. I put it in Olive Oil, with the crushed garlic (find it at Wal Martin a jar) use a TB or a little more. Sea Salt and ground pepper. Marinate it for a littlewhile if you have time, if not, just spoon the mixture over it....then grill. We like charcoalbut gas is fine too........this is oh-so-good. Fish is 'soft' and easy to eat, full of Protein. If you want/need to snack....get the low fat/skim mozzarella cheese sticks, even eat morecottage cheese or get some deli sliced lunch meat. Have a great day!!!Stacy
