    2 months out

I had my surgery when my baby was 6 weeks old! It feels great! I am just a little over 6 months out. The first few months weight came off easier. I went on birth control in July and it has slowed. I still average about 11 to 16 pounds a month, but usually only lose weight about a week and a half out of the month. Yay for new moms and getting healthy!
  2. Yesterday my husband and I dropped by his cousins house to pick something up. I haven't seen my cousin in law in about a year in a half. When he saw us, he greeted my husband and looked at me and said" you are really skinny". I thought I heard him say that, but all I could do is stand there and smile while simultaneously think I weigh 197lbs, I'm not skinny! My husband kind of startled me out of my trance and said- Rodney gave you a compliment--laughing hysterically as if he were reading my mind! I quickly said thankyou and told him he looked good himself (he's been lifting weights and used to be skinny). I can't get over that. People who see me that hasn't seen me in a longtime WILL say to me things like " Wow you look good" or :you've lost alot of weight", but skinny...I've NEVER heard that in my life! The strange thing is I saw Rodney's brother the week before and he yelled across the store- "Oh my God, you've lost ALOT of weight"! That was embarassing. I still want to lose 20lbs pounds. I feel like I still have a ways to go! Oh well, I'll take the compliments however I get them!

getting my first fill w/dr Spiegel

Hi - I am Donna in No Calif, I was banded on 12/29/05. I am going for my first fill on Friday 2/10. I have gained back 5 pounds since surgery - yikes. I fill like I could eat normally (which isn't good). Will this fill stop this feeling and help control my hunger? Thanks !

    Working Your Sleeve

If you aren't eating enough calories your body enters into starvation mode and you will not lose weight. I was told to eat 900-1000 calories day of the right foods.

  6. I too found out I had sleep apnea. I had to bring the machine with me. The most important thing is make sure the Anethesiologist knows about it. He will more than likely come and talk to you before the surgery, and he will probably ask you if you have sleep apnea. He will monitor it during surgery. Now, back to the cpap machine. I hated mine too, I talked to my sleep study doc about it and they gave me a perscription of Ambien CR to take until I could get use to the machine. It took about 2 weeks but now I can tell a difference if I don't sleep with it. I've had mine now for about a year, I think it helps you lose weight, you wake up feeling so much more refreshed. When I started the machine, I had my machine on a pressure of 15, now that I've lost weight, I'm down to an 8. The doc thinks another 15 or 20 lbs and I will be completely off of it. I'm not sure if I really want to give it up though, it really makes me feel so much better in the mornings. I hope you will talk to your doc about the problems you are having with the machine and mask, they have several types of mask you can try.
  7. I would highly recommend Weight Watchers. I have taken off 50 pounds twice on Weight Watchers. I've never taken off more than 30 on any other program. Weight Watchers has a great website w/an online forum like this that is VERY supportive and helpful and FREE! But, I think to give it a really good go, I think actually going to the meetings is key. If you go and don't like the first leader you get, then try another leader. There are some great WW leaders, but they aren't all great so you may have to try a few to find one that you click with. If this is you last and final go at trying a diet, though, I HIGHLY recommend going ahead to your doctor first and checking in w/your doctor monthly as if you were doing the 6-month supervised diet that is required by many insurances (if is is required by yours or if your insurance might ever change). The reason I say that is then if it doesn't work out, you can use that info in your medical file to get WLS approved more quickly (if you ever choose this). I hope you don't take this as discouraging, but I'm only recommending this because I wish I had done that on my last and final go on WW. Better to have it documented if you need it, than have to do another diet later that you don't really want or need. I wish you all the best!
  8. I am so happy!! I thought for sure traveling and eating out MOST of the time I would have not lost any or even gained some kgs back. Today I went for a fill and I had lost over 3kgs!! Yippee!! I'll be back on the forum now that I am home.:cool2:
  9. Hi guys! I've always been able to count on this forum when I need advice! I was banded in April 06, and have been dealing w/ a horrible infection this whole time. It's a long story.... but needless to say I DON'T recommend going to Mexico!!! Because of the infection, I wasn't able to get a fill this whole time, and had only lost 40lbs right after the surgery. FINALLY a couple weeks ago, I was at a point to where (even though the infection was still there) my doctor agreed to fill me. I was sooooo excited to be able to start loosing weight again, and have lost 14lbs since the fill. IRONICALLY... the SAME day I got my fill, I found out I was pregnant!!! From what I've read on the internet, I will now have to get an unfill so that the baby can get the proper nutrition. Is that right? Does anybody know????? I informed my current (american) lap band dr that I was pregnant. She didn't mention anything about an unfill... just to stop taking my antibiotics, and that we wouldn't be able to do anything more about the infection until after the baby is here. I believe after the baby is here, she is going to want to remove the band all together. I feel like this next 7 mos is my last chance to loose weight w/ the band. But that can't be good for the baby(??) I haven't gotten the chance to see an OB doc yet. Im trying to make sure the food I do eat is nutritious and taking Vitamins as well. Does anyone know if the OB dr will require that I have an unfill?

    heart tickle

dont know how else to explain it but does any other people have a felling like when you eat something you can actually feel it tickle your heart almost like a slide and then drop? weird feeling weight lose is going good down 125 in a year and a half love he band but just very tight right now. cant really eat to much. only thing that works for me is fish. i was just curious is this something normal to feel or is something wrong? any feed back would be apreciated thanks again.
  11. @@happybuddy my advice would be to go and see your OB/GYN. Primary Dr. is great but what it sounds like right now is that your hormones are in a big flux. You want to check that out and make sure you aren't experiancing PCOS (Poly cystic overian syndrome) This can be the cause of your body holding on to the weight as well as Water weight gain. Our hormones and not just the thyroid are what make our body and our brain work to keep a balance. If any of these are out of balance they send signals to the brain that we might not want them to send and trust me I speak from personal experience here. Even though you see the OB/GYN the sex hormones may or may not be your issue. They are probably the issue with the periods but more than likely there are multifaceted issues going on at once as your body is undergoing major changes to the way you are eating etc. Keep the faith, you will get where you want to be. In the mean time be healthy and keep doing what you need to do for you. Try not to focus on the scale number and let it get you down. It's just a number, focus on how you are feeling and work from there to get your body in motion. Prozac can make you hungry and can also cause some weight retention, however if you have been on it for a bit and your dose sounds low it's probably not the issue. My step son is on this medication and it has worked wonders for him, don't stop any medications without checking with your doctors.

"Curves for Women" can I still do?

You won't be able to do curves until you are healed, which I believe is at least 2 months..you can probably do walking and some other aerobic excercises..but curves has a lot of weight lifting which is out until your body is healed.
  14. So, I've been between 248 and 238 for the last year. Even with fills and extra exercise I can't seem to get past 235. Which is a painful reminder of my ridiculous struggle with weight loss in high school...couldn't get past 235 then either. Right now I'm at 245. Trying to stay optimistic, since I've already lost over 80lbs, but I'm still looking in the mirror after my run and can't help but cry. I'm so frustrated. I'm only half way to my goal, and it feels like I've been losing the same 10lbs. over and over again. Any suggestions?
  15. Hi everyone I have a question. I had my surgery on June 4th starting weight was 264 it has been 4 months and I have only dropped to 244. Ire entry had my 3rd fill yesterday. Before I left the doctors office I needed them to take some out because I couldn't swallow Water let alone my on saliva. I actually threw up a little in the doctors office. So I had my doctor take some out and I felt better instantly. Anyways it's been 4 months little frustrated that I see all these individuals having these huge successes and I am not seeing anything. Can anyone let me know how do you know if you're starting to feel restriction? Today I had a little yogurt and practically felt it go down my stomach and come right back up.. Not sure if I should continue liquids today till I feel a little more comfortable. Be aide the two bites I did have did not feel good going down. Is this how restrictions could feel. Also a lot of people say signs of burping or hiccups are signs that let you know you're full. Well since surgery I wake up burping a d every now and then hiccups. Is this normal? Thanks guys just nee some motivation. Really have no one to talk to about this.

  18. Hello all, I am new to the board and seeking some guidance and advice. I have gained so much weight and regardless what I do or dont do I cannot change and my number keep going up!! I am 36 and growing up was heathy weight then grew an obsession with being thin and developed anorexia. It stuck with me until early 20's. Since then I have been gaining weight. Right now I am 5'9" and about 240 pounds. I feel so horrible, worthless, unworthy person among many more feelings. I have been diagnosed wiyh fibromyalgia, chronic pain, insomnia, knee, ankle, back pain and depression. I honestly feel so helpless and worthless. I cannot even bare to be intiminate with my hubby, that is just wrong. I have tried every diet, life style changes, coaches, groups, books, workout sets/methods and with little or no changes . I am thinking of surgery. What are great tips and ways to get the ball rolling? Is there a slower weightloss surgery that would prevent or limit the saggy skin? I need help. Thank you
  19. Food is everything, everywhere, imbedded in every aspect of our lives. Today, like many many days, my boss came up to me and asked "would you like ice cream from Mc Donalds?" and naturally it is for a "reward" of sorts for good performance for the day. I looked at him and said "you know my answer" in a playful way. It's crazy how food is our natural go-to for reward. I yelled out of my office to my friend across the way, "I am one STRONG lady!" because it's true. These last 5 months, I have withstood so many potlucks, ice cream socials, food truck days, donut or bagel breakfast, boxes of dilly bars, I COULD GO ON AND ON! A part of me feels defeated, the reason why? Why couldn't I lose the weight differently and still be able to partake in some of these things in moderation? I know the answer why.... I would never have done it. I need the dumping syndrome to prevent me from partaking. This surgery FORCED my hand. The other part of me feels accomplished, strong, and amazing. I have powered through every hard moment, Candy on Valentines day, birthday party cupcakes, s'mores at cook outs, frozen margaritas at the health club pool, bread at the restaurant, baked goods at Easter, ice cream on a hot summer day,....... I have said NO to everything. I have been strong and it has paid off.
  20. Yo are not alone, you will get it back slowly. But for now you must try to have sex with your huband. TMI Sorry. He is there for you through your changes don't push him away. You can always please your husband eventhough you don't want to be pleased. I am now about 7 month s out and I don't do it the way I use to but since the weight lost it has been the best sex I have. Good luck
  21. I HATE SCALES! So I've been exercising for 5 weeks without fail. Sometimes walking 5 miles a day, other times riding my bike for 10 miles. Each day I strip down, tip-toe my way onto that scale waiting for my prize. URGH!!!! I gained? So the Dr. and everyother human being has reminded me that muscle weighs more than fat...How much more? Jeeze, I must be solid muscle by now and the fat should be dripping off me. Patience, patience... I'M NOT Patient! Ok, so tomorrow when I get on that scale it better throw me a bone or I'll throw it out the window. Ollie- P.S. Sorry to rant but somedays you just have to!
  22. I went to the church to the walking track tonight and my daughter wanted to go, so I said whatever. When we got there she said she had to use the restroom and I went ahead and started walking. I was on Lap 4(16 laps is a mile) and she walked with me but kept telling me to slow down I was walking to fast. She finally gave up on lap 12 and started playing on her iPhone while I finished my three mile walk. That made me feel very good!!! I am 40, current weight 214.4, I have lost 46 lbs to date. I can not Believe that my 13 yo could not hang with me, kinda makes me laugh!!
  23. Same exact spot. Totally gung ho on the sleeve. Now I'm reading about reflux, etc and wondering if I should reconsider. I'm told my reflux is likely due to my weight but who knows? Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App

    post op pain

I'll call today. He said everything was fine when I brought it up in the hospital, so I don't think it's anything else more sinister. I'll still call today though! Thanks for the replies, this is really discouraging so far. Pain is exhausting. Also, I gained 10lbs in the hospital just eating ice chips. I thought that was funny in a sick kind of way.
  25. Oh I TOTALLY feel the same way -- and I had a sleep study done recently too that said nothing was wrong. So I figure the extra weight I'm carrying around is what makes me tired. How can it not? (grammy the suitcases metaphor is awesome lol) I've been concerned because many people on here say right after surgery they are tired easily; I guess that's to be expected in immediate recovery. But I have faith that once some of the weight begins to come off I will feel better (I'm pre-op btw). The whole energy thing is a huge reason why I'm getting WLS. I'm tired of being tired!
