  1. The Protein shots have whey in them like the powders do but they also contain collagen. I think this is how they pack in huge amounts of protein in a few ounces. I thought I could slide in my protein this way but my oh my they suck. Nasty indeed! I am 3 weeks removed from surgery (hit my "Stall Wall") and decided that I am just gonna make a pate out of two chicken breasts daily and eat that. Those two alone have nearly 60g of protein. For the gas get those Gas-X strips from Wal-Mart. They help. Get a heating pad for the shoulder too. They were suggested from someone here on this site and they helped. I am told the gain from the fluids is very normal. I had none. My surgery was on a Friday and by the following Monday I was walking about a mile per day. The first couple of weeks out I was mostly concentrating on Water intake. I got in some protein from the skim milk and the broths. Not nearly 60g but some.
  2. So I noticed over the last 2-3 days that the arm that I had the IV in is REALLY hurting, swollen a bit just above where I had the IV, and is firm to the touch. I had to get the IV in the crook of my arm because there were no other good veins. Anyway, this morning has been the worst so far, and it's gone from annoying to concerning. Anyone ever had this? Not sure if it's worth going to the ER for or if it can wait until tomorrow since today is Sunday.

    Getting colds?

I got my second cold a week after my first one. I'm a bit worried as it seems like a lot.
  4. Try some refried beans for protein, you might tolerate it better than meats for the moment. I am 10 weeks and I get that sharp pain every now and then when I eat to fast.
  5. Ok so I'm not almost at 4 weeks post but I'm having an issue when I eat. I get this really bad pain when I'm eating. Idk if its that I'm full or if the food does not agree. I don't feel sick I just get a sharp pain. Has anyone experienced this? I'm getting nervous because it happens with almost any protien I eat
  6. Yes the pain is higher, but no tummy wind, lol. I did get that in the beginning days though. I really now believe its just my body reacting to what just happened a week ago, but luckily i have a doc appointment next tuesday. Thanks for your post.

    Low Carb Cooking

Hi Everyone, We are always talking about watching the amount of carbs that we eat each day. I keep trying to find ways to satisfy my needs to eat low carbs yet have delicious food. Well I discovered a new cookbook that I just love. This guy was on QVC and I thought to myself these recipes and foods sounds so great—but do they really taste this good. They (QVC) has a policy that you can return anything in 30 days if you don’t like what you purchased, so what did I have to lose—NOT a thing. OK, I LOVE this book. For Breakfast I made “cheese Danish Dreams” Doesn’t this sound good? It has 260 Calories Fat: 24 grams, Protein: 10.5 grams. Fiber: 0 Grams and Net Carbs: 2 grams. Prep time 5min. Cook time 2 min Serves 2 Shopping List: 4 ounces cream cheese, softened 2 large eggs 2 tablespoons Splenda 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix with a fork until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly into the bottom of 2 microwaveable Cereal bows and microwave on high for 2 minutes, until springy around the outside and soft in the center. Use spatula to remove Danishes from bottom of bowls, and let cool 2 to 3 minutes before serving. You can top with additional cinnamon and sugar substitute before serving, or add fresh berries or sliced almonds to the cent for something even better. I had fresh Raspberries and it was so good. The Book is called “Still Livin Low Carb and the author is George Stella. The cost of the book is $17.67 plus postage of $6.72 for a total cost of $24.39. In 3 ½ years I have never recommended a cookbook, but this is one that I thought you would really enjoy For dinner we had Flourless Focaccia Bread that was like a pizza. It is GREAT and made with Soy & Flaxseed Flour. Net Carbs: 4.5 grams. Sometimes I am just looking for new ideas and this truly was an inspiration to me to find this book. Pain meds

I was on a narcotic for pain immediately after surgery. This also caused me to have nausea. I asked to be taken off the the narcotics; I had mild discomfort, but no real pain, plus no more nausea. I was able to walk around better and that helped with the gas build-up. I didn't take any additional pain meds afterwards, nor have I since and I am 3 weeks post-op. They sent me home with some non-narco pain meds, but I never had to take them. Also, they didn't need to give me anything to calm down, so I don't know if they even offer something like that. There was a woman there at the same time as me, she was very nervous prior to surgery. The doctor said that it was her choice and she could leave if she wanted to. I don't think they will operate if someone is too nervous or too anxious. By the way, in Mexico, there is no HIPA, so no patient privacy. The staff was so irritated with her, they were talking about her amongst themselves and with the other patients. That is how I know her situation. Plus, she spoke to me a few times. I felt she didn't do enough research prior to her decision, and that is why she was so nervous. 9. Hi everyone! I'm interested to see if anyone is juicing (like green juices)? Have you noticed an improvement in your health or blood work? I'm starting next week and would love any recipes you might want to share! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Saying prayers. It sucks. Now what everyone doesn't want...duh duh dunnnhhhhhh--yes, that's right! It's time for the "Advice from a Pre-Surgery Newbie" Show, starring? FluffyChix! Ok, so now for some practical advice. You are a medical professional--so you must be aware of this stuff--if not, get to know it! 1. Take baby steps. Begin again. Today. Right now. Only focus on the next bite. Today your one job is to dump the carbonated diet drinks. Dump em baby. Use LaCroix as a sub if you must. 2. Tomorrow or when you feel you can, work on the next step...make your snacks healthy and filling: 2oz of protein, or PB3s, or 2oz of GS apple + 2tbsp peanut butter (I'm presurg and this snack right here fills me for 3 hours). 3. Next step, STOP drinking while eating. You can do this. It's actually the easiest step. Make it the first step if you want!!! 4. Next step, go back to eating protein first with every meal. Follow the baby step meal order: protein, non-starchy veg, high carb bs, dessert. 5. Next step, get rid of all the sugar and carby nonsense. Lose the desserts and high carb nonsense. Dump all the sugar from your diet. Tighten up your daily food intake. REALLY this is the fish or cut bait time. It may take several days...get rid of the CRAP. 6. Go back to planning your meals for 1 day. Weigh and measure everything. All. The. Things. Each day, recommit to weighing and tracking (and planning--don't forget the planning) for that day and that day only. Each day. Every day. Recommit. 7. Start walking every day--just around your house, inside your house if necessary...just 5 minutes if that's all you can do. Work up every day to more. And that's as simple as it gets. Don't eat within 3-4 hours of bedtime. Sleep elevated. Make low acid choices. Chew the crap outta stuff and makes notes on what makes the GERD and your esophagus feel worse. Take your PPIs. Treat yourself kindly and with respect. Congratulate yourself on getting through some serious ****. Congratulate yourself on graduating and improving your life. Go back to basics. Each day plan and log your food. Only focus on taking the very next BEST bite. Don't forget to surrender to your higher power. Read about CBT and food addiction. It's an awesome tool for overeating or eating with abandon. And lastly, don't put off a revision if it's called for with the GERD. Just jump in and get it done. Don't waste any more of your life on this. But you do need to get the overeating/eating off plan stuff together cuz as you know, you can eff any surgery if you're determined to do so. Do OA or Greysheeters. Go to therapy. Just concentrate on changing one thing at a time. Take baby steps and you can turn your life around. This is exactly how I backed into starting my new life on the pre-surgery plan. Before I could even do my plan, I had to slowly and gradually back into it until I had strung together so many successful days that I'd built momentum and resolve. Resolve and commitment grow exponentially with success. The more you see the scale move (or whatever your marker of success may be), the stronger the resolve to stay on plan. Good luck. If I can do this, you can do this. I'm the queen of recidivism. I practically wrote the book on it.

    Travel Question...

I am leaving for Mexico next week to spend Christmas. And not Cancun Mexico... My question is: What are some Snacks I can bring on my trip? I don't want to be stuck there with nothing "healty" to eat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Have a blessed day! Lesley

    Broken Promises - PLEASE READ

I have not forgot her as rude as it may seem. I promise it will go out by this week.
  14. I had the gastric sleeve 2 weeks ago I'm on puree food I eat about 2 oz three times a day.don't really feel hungry but since I am eating I subway more energy. My question is I lost 17 lbs in the first week after surgery and the whole next week haven't lost another pound anyone else go through this?
  15. Jennie-O is also really good. It's only like 90 cals for 3 links, no carbs, and 17 Protein. They have an entire line of Turkey products. Sent from my KFOT using VST
  16. I really don't know what to do about my diet, but I think something has to give. I work out 7 days a week. I do it because I like it, because it relieves stress and I feel like it is helping with the weight loss. Originally I was doing low carb/low sugar, but I am thinking I need some more carbs. I feel tired a lot. My muscles are so TIRED. I could hardly pick up my 5 year old this evening. (and that is something I have always been able to do easily) I have no idea how to do this in a healthy way and to not add too many carbs. Since my relationship with my surgeon is in the shitter (Sorry, just the truth), I don't feel as though I can even go to the office anymore. I have already paid for nutritionist appointments. Maybe that is what I need to do-bite the bullet and go in and see the nut. I can't stand the staff at his office though. Ugh. I emailed one of the nuts tonight, but they don't even know me because they go through quite a few employees a month and I haven't seen any of the new ones. Ugh. I am so frustrated!
  17. Feeling much better, been eating baked chicken or yogurt and water. I’m gonna say it’s normal to have one of those days when u wanna cheat, This is new to me but I’ll make it through. I feel like I’m getting head hunger a lot so I usually just drink water or finish my work. Is it normal to no feel restriction tho, I usually stop myself so I don’t feel uncomfortable.

    Newbie

Hi, Inamed, makers of the Lapband system have guidelines for prospective patients. The US FDA has stricter guidelines. But with a bmi of only 27, you are only overweight...not even obese....the cdc considers a bmi of 30 or greater to be obese. Congrats on being only 3 bmi points above 'normal'. Since the band treats morbid obesity...you are very far away from that. But that's Inamed....maybe you could find another manufacturer that treats just people overweight and not obese. Good luck and don't give up on weight loss.

I slept through the night for the first time with no stomach spasms or pain. 60 0z of fluid remains impossible for me to get in and I'm struggling with protein drinks of many different kinds, but trying my hardest. I've been off of pain meds since coming home from the hospital. I see my surgeon tomorrow. The best part? I'm down 11 lbs!! Only 70 to go lol! Looking forward to mushies on Monday the 20th. Today is the first day I've felt a little hungry for something.

    Hair Loss

I have read a lot about hair loss and mine started about 3 1/3 months out. I've lost almost half the volume of my hair. What I haven't been able to find is how long the loss lasts. Any ideas?

    Stress Test

I'm new to this site. . . I began my journey last week and have completed the psyc eval, had visit with nutritionalist, had blood work done, and attempted(!) the stress test. I assume I didn't "pass" because they are sending me to see a cardiologist. I'm very worried about it! My appt is tomorrow...I'm wondering how common this is and how many people don't get clearance for surgery from the cardiologist? I look forward to reading your comments.

    Alcohol After Surgery

I had a wine cooler on Thanksgiving, it was strawberry daiquiri flavor. I'm 8 weeks post op and my doc says it's best to avoid but I didn't see a timeline in my folder. My advice is don't go overboard but one drink I'm sure wouldn't hurt. Come to find out I thought the wine cooler was very sweet and didn't enjoy it all that much. I'm more of a vodka kinda person but I probably wont drink that until I'm a little closer to goal.
