    3mos - Am I eating too much

Yeah I can't eat the whole wheat pasta and that's what I really love if and when I do make pasta....it seems like it blows up inside of me. The weird part is I can eat one thing one day and the next time I eat it it comes right back up. I just want to bite into a burger so bad....but every time I tried I can't do it. Right now I just had some ham and it's sitting in my throat I am going to have to bring it back up...now tomorrow I might be able to eat it...I just don't get it some times. I know I put too much in my mouth when I am talking to people and stuff then I get sick...I have to learn how to slow it up. I was banded Aug 5th and I was at the time 216 lbs...the most I weighed right before that was 225 lbs now I think I am 190 lbs. I haven't weighed myself for two weeks...I was weighing everyday and I had to stop. I am losing so very very very slow. Seems like every one else is just dropping weight. I just don't know if it's my age, my menopause or what. lol but I go to the gym I try my best to watch what I eat. I think I am eating right, but I feel like I am not losing weight fast enough. Oh well.

    3mos - Am I eating too much

I would like to take my weight from before my surgery then it feels like I lost more. But I take my weight from the day I had my surgery. Which is not much weight lose. I am a slow loser too and it's going to take me a long time at least the year. I read everyones things on here and then I figure something must be wrong with me or I am doing something wrong, everyone seems to lose weight so much faster. I can only eat so much, I go to the gym, I drink water. I don't know what else to do. I know at this point with the cookies and baking and dinner's it's been harder but that is over now and i didn't do too bad. If I eat too fast or I don't chew it comes right back up anyway. I just want to see some weight lose.....it's driving me nuts.

    3mos - Am I eating too much

I feel like I am eating too much as well. Plus my hunger comes back much sooner. I now have 3cc's and it will be a few more weeks until my next fill. My weight loss has slowed down to only 1/2 lb a week. At least it is something. I'm hoping I continue to lose and not start gaining.
  4. I am posting this here because my dermatologist says my eczema is "obesity induced" as I only developed it after my daughter was born and I was at my highest weight ever. I can't find much helping her theory except a short article on Medscape. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/750765_11 But maybe she is correct and others have herd this and am suffering the same thing. Nothing seams to really help me. I have tried over the counter as well as prescription creams, lotions and steroids. EVERYTHING. So finally she suggested I try A&D ointment. I had been avoiding it because I am allergic to shellfish and seafood. It had an inactive ingredient of cod liver oil. She says that it is in such a small dose and the oil undergoes filtration, purification and deodorisation steps to take out impurities, heavy metals and almost all the protein which is what causes the reaction. Anyone allergic to the sea that uses this stuff? I would really like to hear from someone who is actually using it and not a theory because nothing else is working. And does anyone think this will magically go away when I start loosing weight after my surgery? I don't feel it will.

    Can you believe this?

I agree with you,, I am just afraid since she has been at this Hospital since 1981, and is Head of the bariatric unit, that she could make my life living hell while there, or at least not so nice. I have the director of nursing on my side right now, and she seems to be nice, so for now, I will wait. I also want a formal appology from this nurse. I have a pretty good memory so I will be able to account for what happened as well as the emails she sent me etc.. and of course it is on the board..... Thanks for all of y our support this board is sooo awesome....a great bunch of losers-- weight loss ones that is,,, (its a joke-pun)

  7. I'm being banded on April 4th and have been doing the preop liver shrinking diet for a little over a week. My problem is that I have no appetite anymore. My diet should be (in a 24 hour period) 2 high protein shakes, a light sandwich with 4 oz low fat meat, 1c salad, 1 small piece of fruit, 4 oz fat free/sf yogurt. I started out doing okay with that, but now I can hardly get in 2 of those items. Yesterday I had nothing but the yogurt and sandwich. Every time I went to drink a shake I couldn't bring myself to open the can. I don't know if it's aversion to the slimfast flavor or what. I don't miss food...and surprisingly, I sometimes simply forget to eat. I'm worried about being in starvation mode and not losing any more weight. I don't want to go to the hospital on Friday and have them think that I cheated on my liquid diet because I didn't lose very much weight. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, Kim

    on my way now

I lost over 80 lbs doing low gi, but then I kinda blew it when my dad's heart went out of sync and then he broke his hip and then he was in rehab and I was going back and forth for months and he almost died twice. I put all the weight back on and a little more. It works if you stick to it, but I dont think you can get the nuances from the south beach book is why I suggested also reading low gi diet books. For instance, potatoes are a no no, but if you really really crave one, boil a new red potato. Baked potatoes have more starch, only boiled and the newer and smaller the less starch, the lower the gi. Rice, pick a whole grain chewy rice and boil and boil and pour off water and keep boiling at least 20 minutes. If its a chewy type brown rice it will still be good. Instant rice is totally out. pasta, again, small small portions if at all, then the opposite is true, dont overcook, its gets more starchy and again whole grains only. Whole grain cereal no sugar, everything you can you need to switch to whole grains, and its a side dish not the main dish, like you dont have a whole plate of spagetti, its a side to your protein. One of the books breaks foods into red light, green light and yellow light foods, red always no, yellow are maybes, watch them and green you can have all you want. unsweetened yogurt or yogurt with artificial sweeterns is the lowest gi food on the charts. good for snacks or breakfast (except I hate it). the books on low gi to me helped me understand what I could eat a whole lot better than telling me to eat so much of which foods and a bunch of receipes.

One of 50 in Dalton, GA

Thanks all for the well wishes and thoughts. It's done! I didn't chicken out! The surgery went well. They talked about the nausea so much before the surgery that I was a little scared. I HATE, HATE, HATE being nauseous. But I wasn't nauseous at all - not at all! The nurses were amazed that I did so well - they said they wished all their patients came through so well. The surgery was completed by 11am and I was released from the Surgery Center by 2:30 and back at my hotel. Today is Post-op day 2 and I am home and feeling fine. Other than some pains from the Gas - which for some reason landed in my shoulders and upper back - I am feeling quite normal. liquids are going down well and I don't feel hungry yet. So on to the journey - here's my stats: 284 - Starting Weight 274 - Pre Surgery (lost 10 lbs on pre-surgery diet) 44 - BMI From what I see on the posts, most folks are losing 7-10 pounds a month, so I'll make that my goal and see how it goes.

    self-pay: Is it worth it?

I'm a 55-year old divorced woman and I don't have a whole lot of extra money, but I paid for my surgery in May by taking out a loan against my 401K. That was my best option because it's low interest and when I pay it back, I'm paying myself back. I think of it as a car payment too (fortunately I paid cash for my car a couple years ago) and a much better investment than a car! I've only made two payments so far, so maybe it's a little soon for me to be saying it's worth it.... but I believe it absolutely is. I've lost over 30 pounds in two months. I don't feel hopeless and miserable and desperate anymore. I feel positive and hopeful and happy. I'm already starting to feel a little better from the physical ailments I've been suffering with because of being overweight. I'm making plans for the future, I'm walking through stores looking at cute clothes and actually thinking.... I might be able to have fun clothes shopping again one day. My self confidence and self esteem are already rising. And I still have a long way to go to reach goal.... it can only get better from here. I've lost 100 pounds three times over the last 20 years (Jenny Craig, low-fat, and Atkins) and I've always gained it back. I know how to lose weight, I don't know how to keep it off. But in recent years I haven't been able to find the strength and discipline and energy to do it one more time. I'm weary of it all. Getting the lap band has helped me find the strength, discipline and energy.... and with every expectation that this time, I'm going to KEEP it off. When you buy a new car, it depreciates the minute you drive it off the lot. And it loses that new car smell pretty fast too. Long after it's no longer new to you, you're making those payments. I'm expecting that I am actually appreciating with each day, and that the longer I am making those payments, the better and better I'll be getting! P.S., don't forget the cost is tax deductible too, so you will get some of that money back on your taxes next year!
  13. Thanks for the advice. I think your right and I need a little unfill. Its a shame I let it go on for 4 1/2 weeks in order to lose more weight and it backfired and I haven't lost hardly any since the fill! I made an appt but they can't fit me in until Friday afternoon. Thanks again.
  14. I just had my fourth fill on June 9th and I am now at 6.8 cc. I postponed this last fill three months as I felt I was "ok" still losing and ate just enough. The reason I went for this fill is that in the last month I was getting my hunger back and no weight loss in over a month so I figured ok I will go. She put in .8cc and since then I can't keep anything down. Today was the first day it was better. I had soup and some salad and no pain at all and it stayed down. I am eating very very small portions and chewing and I have never had a problem since being banded. Liquids are not a problem at all except for my protein shakes in the morning. I was wondering how long do I wait to see if I am too tight or give it more time and see how it goes? I have to say I was in the Keys on vacation this last week and it was so frustrating that ANYTHING I ate came back up no matter how small or how brothy the soups were. Any advice? Thanks!
  15. Thanks everyone!! I think doodlebugsmom has a good idea. Maybe I should go back to liquids a couple of days and let my stomach chill for a bit. I am able to keep down tuna fish and some chicken broth and scrambled eggs totally fine. Smaller portions to date still, but that is what I expect so I am going to try the liquids then give it a little more time. I would love to say barely eating in almost two weeks that I have lost a lot of weight, but I haven't lost anything. I will call the Dr tomorrow too and see what they advise as well to be safe, but I feel ok and not hungry. Thanks again all for the advice I love getting support from people that actually know what they are talking about and are living this as well
  16. First cong on the weight loss, I was also banded on the May 1st. About a week or so after I went with my wife to my nutritionist, I had lost about 10 lbs. But was not feeling too well, sweating etc. She believed it was low blood sugar and had me get regular crandberry juice. Said to have 8 onz a day. You need to eat something and get some carbs in you. You dont need alot. With that said my weight loss has slowed, down almost 20. started to keep track of food etc. If you cannot get to a dr. I strongly suggest you see a nutritionist that works wtih lapban they can help you to know what you NEED to eat. Regards Rosstheboss

    Still Struggling With Body Image

Okay I think all of us to some degree know where you are coming from. I have lost all but 20 lbs of my weight I am in my 60's and I have struggled with my self image all of my life when I weighed 120 lbs I was fat in my head. It took a therapist asking me to bring in pictures of my self through the years that I realized it wasn't my weight that was the problem. It was my head and how I saw myself. I am a pretty woman I have a great fun personality and I love people and fun and doing things for others my one true wish in life is that I had a friend like me. Sound arrogant no I know my good points and I have learned that how I think about me is how others think about me. Sure I don't go sleevless often , and the girls are lower then I like , I still have a little muffin top but that does not define me and anyone that uses that to define me doesn't deserve my attention. This a learned attitude on my part, I was just like you once and I really appreciate your willingness to lay yourself out there. You are not alone in your thoughts and I hope you learn to love yourself and appreciate all the good things you are instead of focusing on the negative things you think you see in the mirror. Anyone who has gone to the level we have to look and feel better deserves to be at peace with themselves...Good Luck and God Bless

    Still Struggling With Body Image

I'm 5ft 10 and 140lb and I feel fat most days. That's because I was 130lb when I was sick and I beat myself up for regaining that weight. I mean, I had cancer, looked like a skeleton and have returned to a healthy weight and I beat myself up for it? Sheesh. I see fat thighs and a fat bum when I look in the mirror, and they ARE flabby. A tummy tuck hasnt improved my self esteem one iota - I didnt have a bad stomach in the first place and had the tuck to fix a ventral hernia, but I am STILL dissatisfied. I cant fit into my really skinny clothes. I have seen a psychologist for this problem for a while, but truthfully, I dont really think psychology is all that useful a tool for some people. I got nothing out of it. It doesnt help me to "talk" about it and have it gently suggested that my thinking is faulty. I already know that. I really just accept that I will never be happy with myself and I will always have that inner voice suggesting I could do better, be better etc. My best bet is to try to ignore it as much as possible and recognise when it is getting out of control. The truth is, when my eating and exercise behaviour is faultless, I can accept my imperfections. When I know that I'm not doing the most I coudl for myself, then they magnify. So the solution is simple. Eat right, and exercise and know that I've done all I can to be the best I can be, and live with whatever that is.

    Still Struggling With Body Image

Many people have difficulties with developing a positive and accurate self image, including those who have lost a considerable amount of weight. Working with a therapist to address these issues definitely would be helpful, but there are also other things to try as well. First, it important that the reassurances for positive self regard are initiated with you. The negative thoughts you wrote about are just like tapes you replay in your mind, over and over. Try to raise your awareness of the messages on those tapes, and change them to focus on positive and accurate thoughts. Identifying and modifying them will be a key issue to focus on with a therapist We all need some external validation from others, but ultimately, it is much healthier if we can develop our own positive self regard, and then we are able to reason our way through the negative thinking. You can begin to work on this today by challenging the accuracy of your automatic thoughts. If you "hear" something often enough, you tend to begin to believe it. Only you can change the messages on those tapes...it just takes some practice! Good luck!

    Question about lady bits

This subject was discussed on "The Dr.'s" TV show yesterday. A lady called in because as she aged her lady parts were not as firm as when she was younger and she didn't like the way her slacks were fitting "down there". The lady OBGYN doc told her this is normal and will happen to every woman as she ages, but she could use some moisturizer creams and exercise that area. I don't know what you think of the doc's advice, but I don't think that is going to work with large weight loses. Maybe it would help some if a gal was real young, had not had any children and didn't have much to lose. That's not me! )

    6 Weeks 2 Days Postop.

I'm in the same boat right now sleeved sept 19th was 352lbs before preop was 310lbs day of surgury I'm 8 weeks today and I'm 272lbs now but haven't lost a pound in over 2 weeks my personal goal is 200lbs doctors goal is 170lbs ( not happening) I use to weight 190lbs and look sick. But the stall worries me. I hope I start back soon.
  22. Because this has been a problem area for you my suggestion would be just to continue to measure your food. Someone one here ( sorry 8 am not sure where it is) has a list of weights and measurements for food. It is probably on the food and nutrition part of the web site. There are list of different varieties of foods and portions for each stage. Please don't be in fear..... Just wiegh and measure everything and you will be safe. Some of us never will gain the ability to judge when we are full.... I agree I with BKLYN I would see what your INS covers and go to a seminar if I had too to get into a Nut. Best wishes

    Telling kids?

Oh, I haven't lied! They haven't asked beyond "why do you have so many appts?" - and I say "my doctor is helping me lose weight so I can be healthier". I just haven't gone into detail on what I'm leading up to yet Thanks for the replies!

    Antidepressants and lapband

Our psychiatrist who does counseling said that there does appear to be a link between obesity and depression. i.e. Most obese people do have some level of depression. She does not recommend going off antidepressants before you hit your goal weight, but once at goal for awhile she said it is worth working with your doctor and/or psychiatrist to see if they are still necessary. I imagine it depends on why you are suffering from depression to begin with. Simple chemical imbalance, or other issues? Depression, no matter the reason, doesn't seem to be a permanent condition for some people. In fact, most people I know in person who have been on antidepressants have only been on them for a year or less before being successfully weaned off. Me? I'm a lifer. Never did succeed at getting off them, and it'll be 12 yrs this summer since I first started on them. I'm not holding out much hope that being thin will make a difference, but ya never know.
