Thanks to this forum I hit ONDERLAND today!!! 173 Days Post OP
CapK replied to MiamiMama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats!! How wonderful! I am almost at onederland too. Hoping to loose the final pound to hit it this week. -
I think the issue is more with the duodenal switch patients because the duodenum is taken out it's the a portion of the intestines where the enzymes are... along with a portion of the intestines the stomach and the appendix along with the gallbladder.. it doesn't really affect patients that have had the roux-en-y the lap band or the sleeve. Sorry to hear about the constipation. I've been there maybe three times since 2012.

There used to be a tea shop at the mall near me, but it closed. There might be one near where I'm staying in Toronto this week, so I'll see if I can find one. Otherwise I can probably order some online. Thanks!

I broke my stall and lost 5lbs at the end of June. Then I stalled again and lost nothing for the longest time. A couple weeks ago, I had a rough patch and started snacking on junk thanks to some meds I was put on making me constantly hungry. I saw the scale go up by 4lbs. This week, I decided to go back to "the beginning". I am doing 2 shakes a day and then really good dinner and snacks. I lost that 4lbs and am down almost another lb. SO CLOSE to 199.9. I have been itching to get below 200 as well. Sitting at 201.0 this morning. Are you counting your cal/carbs to see if you are above or below your target? I noticed when I stopped counting, I slacked on eating as well. Edited to change the month from July to June. I stalled for SO long!

Those first days are a challenge! I also found warm drinks slightly easier at that stage. Broth was my best friend! I drank both regular and bone - bone broth has a lot more protein so that was a bonus. I kept drinking both for a while. For me, things improved exponentially after the first week.

How long for hospital weight to drop off?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to greenchilegoddess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my VSG I was 278.2 the week before surgery, 271 when discharged, and 258.3 at my post-op appointment 10 days later. I had very minimal bruising or swelling that time. When I had my revision (8 months later due to gerd), I was 222 a week before surgery, left the hospital at 234.4 (was there 4 days due to needing iron), and was 215.7lbs at my one week post-op appointment. I had loads of bruising this time around. The picture is from a week post-op and I still had visible bruising at 20 days post-op (second picture) though it never hurt. -
I was super worried about this, but so far at 6 weeks out I haven't had any issues (knock on wood). I'll have to ask my parents if they think that's true, because it's usually my mom who has to deal with it (I call her all the time even though I'm 41!). I think the only thing that I've been cranky about is being hungry, but although that's been really rough, it feels pretty specific and while I complain about it, it doesn't seem to be affecting the rest of my life. I am actually pretty happy about how good food is tasting now that I'm not just eating the same three things all the time. I think food actually tastes better than before surgery because I'm taking the time to enjoy it rather than shoveling into my face without even paying attention. Plus, I'm feeling really positive about my shrinking body and increasing energy levels. I always had a lot of energy before surgery, but now I'm feeling almost "spritely"! Still have a hard time lifting things. My upper body strength was never good, but now it's just gone!!!

I felt swollen for about two days, don’t know if I looked swollen but I could not have cared less if I did at that time 🤣 My surgeon & nutritionist are very strict in that I am only allowed to weigh myself once a week, so I never noticed the fluids on the scale! -

I lost 9 lbs on the 2 week preop diet and gained exactly 9 lbs from the IV fluids. At the end of week one I was back to my preop weight and the end of week 2 I had lost 6 lbs. I wore an abdominal binder so I really couldn't tell how much swelling I had. Good luck on your journey. -
Thanks for the link for the dissolvable Tylenol. What protein soup are you using? I drink chicken bone broth but not enough protein. Never mind not liking my favorite shakes Now I am finding myself craving cumin , paprika, turmeric, and other savory spices. I hope your pain is getting better. I figured out today that walking really is helping. I may of overdone it but I feel way better. Also it hurts less to swallow. I figured out I was swallowing in a way that I also swallowed air. It’s amazing to think I use to guzzle 500 ml in 5 minutes. Now I can only drink half that in 30 minutes. Pain in abdomen still I think from to. Much stomach acid. The left shoulder pain comes and goes. How’s your hands? Any better? I am kinda excited in a way. Can not wait to see the pounds drop after working so hard and getting no where. I have been told to not watch my weight till about 4 weeks out.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Breanne (w 2 pups) replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m 2.5 weeks post op. My pain started there a few days post op, but I as gone a week later. If I do so much I can feel it at that spot, but nothing like it was. -
It’s likely just a stall. We almost all experience at least one, some experience a lot more. They usually last 1-3 weeks but can be longer. It’s just your body coming to terms with the changes: weight loss, reduced calories, etc. Your physical body gets stressed too & just sometimes needs to take a breath like we sometimes do emotionally & mentally. Keep doing what you’re doing & you will start to lose again. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

It differs person to person. Some say a couple of days some say a week. I didn’t drink much for the first 3 or so days because of pain on swallowing from swelling so the IV fluids likely compensated for me not drinking. I wasn’t peeing any more than I usually did. I weighed myself day 4 post surgery & I was 1.5kgs less. I didn’t notice much abdominal swelling either & had no gas pain at all. This was totally different after my gall removal surgery - gas pain for days, bloated & took 4 days of peeing like a racehorse to lose the 2kgs I’d gained. But as I said we’re all different. We retain fluids differently. Our body reacts to trauma differently. Our surgeons operate differently (mine uses little gas in bariatric surgeries but uses more for gall). We heal differently. As long as you realise any weight gain is likely from the surgery you’ll be fine. It certainly won’t be from eating copious amounts of food 😉. Hope all goes well with your surgery. -
Hi all, I’m three months out from my sleeve. I lost 46 pounds and feel so grateful but now I’m stuck!!! I haven’t lost a pound in three weeks! Is this normal? Please tell me it’s not😩

It’s been 4 days by which time the nurse told me i should see results but I’ve also read it can take 7-10 days. 🤷🏻♀️ I can see some difference but will probably need the little top up next week to get the missed spots. Also thinking about getting some PDO threads around the mouth area to take in the chin & nasal labia folds. These are the collagen threads not the barbed lifting threads. Apparently the neutraliser produces the same reaction in the body as bee & wasp stings not that it includes the actual venom. The concern is because our bodies overreact we may go to into anaphylaxis. So not worth the risk she said. I hope your family is more aware of your allergy than mine. We were all in our mum’s garden a few years back & I did this big dash away saying bees. My brothers laughed & teased me as only brothers can for being afraid of bees. I’m allergic I tell them & they look at me with disbelief & as if I was joking until Mum confirmed it. How did you find out about yours? Not by having an anaphylactic reaction I hope. Oh & congrats on your 3 year anniversary too @ms.sss. Whoo hoo! I so love that colour on you, @Sophie7713. You look fabulous. And I think that’s such a clever idea to tuck the legs in your shoes - like matching socks. I still think we should be eligible for a rebate on all the excess fabric we have to cut off to make clothes the right length. I think those velvet pants look amazing on you @WishMeSmaller. Legs for days, girl. Saw this yesterday. Finally payback!! 😆😆😆

Food Before and After Photos

Love that you massaged the kale & spinach. Sounds so intimate. 😉 I’m a giant bowl of salad every day person too regardless the weather. Chicken or prawns & never skimp on the dressing. Mmmm. Can’t wait for lunch. I used to scramble 2 eggs & it would take me three days to eat them @slimbunny so like you. Could eat one egg by maintenance & still can’t eat 2 scrambled eggs almost 2 1/2 years out. I sometimes make a three egg omelette with various vegetables & eat half for lunch & the other half for dinner. It took me a while to meet my protein goal every day but my surgeon was happy if I was close to hitting it. I found a good high protein yoghurt & yoghurt drink that helped ge close to goal so I didn’t have to have shakes (🤢). -
You will be fine! I had a one-week fast and had several slip-ups also! My surgery was performed on October 6th and I am now 2 1/2 weeks out. Everything went very well! Just know that your journey is just beginning! Please send an update once you are feeling well! The best to you! 💜🌹

Food Before and After Photos

2 weeks post surgery and I was dreading going to my cousin's birthday dinner tonight but this made the soft food diet so bearable! Refried beans, queso, chicken; simple and delicious if not much to look at. Forgot a before photo. I'd never have ordered this before surgery because it wouldn't have filled me. Stopped myself before I got that terrible knot in my sternum and took home the many meals left on my plate lol. -
3 weeks they put me on soft food, and I could eat all the foods on the list. Now I'm 6 weeks out, and I can only do oatmeal, and cheeses. I started having problems keeping other things down. I do good with vegetables. Any meat I have problems with. So I can't eat 2 oz if ground turkey, but I can do like 1 spoon of it, and then some soft squash.

This was me for the first week - to a T. I ended up improving a lot.... I am now 19 days post op and feeling awesome. The 2nd week is when I really started to improve honestly. Just do what you can and rest!

How do you deal with people telling you to stop losing weight?
Crick posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I am just over 9 months post-op. I hit my official goal in August but my personal, unofficial goal was 135 which I hit last week. However, I think I can still go lower - yes, I am wearing size 6 pants and jeans and small tops but I especially have weight around my belly. I can see it shrinking from the edges but I still have another at least 5 lbs I could lose I think. Plus, I have a TON of loose skin. I’m already starting to save for plastics but that’s not the point. In the past week I have had 3 people all tell me to stop losing weight (this was unsolicited, BTW) and that I don’t want to get too thin. Now, I respond that I am working with a doctor and nutritionist and I am still in the normal BMI range (I know, it’s a horrible measure but it’s one that people are at least familiar with) and that I could reasonably lose more and still maintain a healthy BMI. I am really trying to work on building muscle/toning as I have been since the end of March when I was fully vaccinated. I am really frustrated because I can’t imagine the audacity of people (and one of these folks is a dear mentor that I look up to) to tell me this. I know part of this is that I am so frustrated when I see other folks pictures pre-plastic surgery that were sort of similar stats and they look so much better than I do now, and I try not to let that cloud my judgment, but I am curious how others have dealt with people telling you that you are getting too small? Attaching pics to prove that I still can and should lose more in my stomach area (although what’s above my belly button is just extra skin I think that will require surgery). -
Swings of a pound or two are totally normal no matter what. It could be fluid retention, it could be your body going into the "third-week stall" (which there are like 20,000 posts about, it's NORMAL) a little early, it could be hormonal, it could be constipation. Don't freak out. Follow your plan. It will right itself.

September Surgery Buddies!!
lizonaplane replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
By 2-3 weeks out I could take gulps of water. I can't guzzle even 6 weeks out, but it's definitely not little sips anymore. Of course, your mileage may vary... Also, consider trying flavored water, too. That helps me a lot. And tea and coffee. -
As I sit her sipping a Premier Latte Protein shake back and taking 90 minutes and still not done. I use to love the taste but now I find it to sweet. Each little sip down I feel and god forbid I accidentally take a regular size swallow, UGH THE PAIN. I know they said the shoulder pain is from the surgery gas. I did some yoga poses for release of gas and that helped. I have rheumatoid arthritis and use to use the finger tip less compression gloves. Love them. I would assume the pain outside of the shoulder and belly is from the usual body reaction to surgery ie generalized thirdspacing fluids & inflammation. But we can not have NSAIDS. I am crushing acetaminophen 1000 mg every 6 h which is somewhat effective just need to mix with mylanta to get it down. I would rather some ibuprofen but we can not have for two weeks. Did you take the oxycodone the Drs offered? I was afraid to . How’s today for you any better?
