  1. Am currently waiting on approval (or denial) for my revision to sleeve. I know it hasn't been long. I know that the insurance company has 30 days to make a decision, but I'm ready to know now! I want to start making my next plan (either starting the process over or planning my surgery). I should have realized that once I made up my mind to have revision, that I would not be willing to wait. I have to learn patience... Sigh... I just want this done now! lol. I'm ready to be back to losing. My weight is slowly (ok not as slow as I'd like) creeping back up. I am up almost 30 pounds from my lowest. That is so disheartening... I recognize that is my own fault, but I need to find out something soon OR get some of my fill added back to curb my outrageous eating lately. How on earth do you deal with the waiting?

    On Pins And Needles!

Hi, I am self pay, so no insurance company to wait for. But, I can't get the time off work until September...so, I am scheduled and have paid two thirds of my surgery cost up front so far... and I still have 4 more months to wait... so, I know what you are going through! I have to lose 32 pounds before my Revision surgery and have lost 14 pounds so far... so, I guess I am also glad to have the time to lose some of my weight to make my surgery safer. Go luck and I hope all goes well! Cheers, Dottie
  3. Oy. I am 6 years post op from my first surgery, and almost 2 years out post op from my band to bypass revision and I was successfully maintaining my weight for over a year and recently the scale has gone UP 10lbs!!! My husband asked me if that was bad (uh hello!) I was maintaining at 147lbs and now the scale said 158lbs. It scares the life out of me seeing it go back up. I know what my issues are and I need to remind myself carbs are NOT my friend and I have to keep myself more active. I used to spend 4-5 days a week working on a farm I volunteer but I've had to scale back recently due to home issues. And sadly because I've been so stressed out I've been looking at eating as my coping skill again. I know what I need to do to get back on track and I am damn determined to do it, I just need a little nudge and support from those who know where I am right now. Thanks!!
  4. I had a pretty bad experience with my band and I am now HAPPILY sleeved! I had complication after complication with the band. Now with the sleeve, things are going great! I am losing weight and food doesn't have control over me anymore. You will love the sleeve! I was self pay for my lapband ($8000- Dr. Rodriguez). I had a 2800 co-pay for my revision (Dr. Nowzaradan).

    Stalled or plateau

A great thing my surgeon told me is that the best exercise I could do is use an elliptical, I don't have surgery till Oct 25 but I have a lapband that will be revised to sleeve. I found one where I live on letgo app for $35 hope that helps. Then I can exercise at home while kids watch tv or something. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hi there! I'm with you on the struggle. I had vsg in Fall 2012, lost 120 lbs. Had babies in 2014 and 2016, so I never even made it to the 3 yr mark at my goal weight 😫. I've so far lost 40 pounds, on 1200 calories per day, and I'm starting a reset today. I never thought to try Phentermine, but I will be making an appt to get some this week! The struggle is very real! We can encourage each other. I am not at all interested in revision, at this time.

    Revision from band to sleeve

That is probably good news, it should help with getting insurance to go for the revision. Keep us informed, and stay positive!!

    Revision from band to sleeve

Well hell, that does suck. Yeah, Lapbands work for some people I suppose, I had mine for 5 years before I gave up on it. In quick terms, within 6 weeks of being sleeved I had lost 5 more pounds than I ever lost in the 5 years I was banded, so your situation is not abnormal. Will insurance cover it, IDK. It would depend on your insurance, soI would call them. I had to go through the whole six month BS before the lap band, but to revise to a sleeve I only needed to do 3 months. I'm sure every carrier is different. Either way, I wish you the best of luck, and results!!

    Port revision booked

I had my port revision surgery this morning. All went well and I just have some pain in the ab muscle since they buried the new port pretty deep. I think I might actually go back to work tomorrow, and I'm just taking Tylenol instead of the prescription painkillers. I don't want to jinx it, but I'm surprised at how well I'm actually feeling
  10. My name is Kelli, I was banded Nov 2010 in Mississauga Ontario at the Surgical Weight Loss Center. I am 28 years old, have been married for a year, and the whole reason i started this process was so that i could have a safe pregnancy and have a healthy baby! I have to say, i am well on my way. My starting weight was 319.8 lbs, and currently, i weight in at 217.8lbs. Only recently did i pass the 100lb mark! I am so happy, and proud of myself, and feel soooooo amazing! I had a complication, and port infection about 6 months ago, and had to have a port revision. Since then, its been nothing but clear skies. Hopefully it stays that way! For Christmas this year, my husband got me a gym membership and a personal trainer. Its an early present. I've been going for about 2 weeks, and am actually starting to enjoy myself while i'm there! Anyways, i would like to get to know some of my fellow Canadian Bandsters, and maybe swap ideas, and some Canadian products. So many recipes from this site have ingredients that we don't have here, so it would nice to get some new ideas!! Hope to hear from you all Kelli

    Pre-surgery jitters

I'm a band to sleeve revision also. My sleeve surgery was 12/27/2016. My surgeon does but do the revision in I've surgery. My band was removed in November. That was a glorious day. I hated that thing. I can't believe I waited 10 yrs to get it removed. So far very happy with the sleeve. The only bad note of this whole process is learning I am sensitive to aspartame. It gave me a migraine post op. Terrible. My way of dealing with nerves was to start doing everything I could pre op to prepare myself. I started the low carb, high Protein diet back in September. I started drinking 100 oz of Water a day. I started regular exercise. Then I cleaned and organized my house. No regrets at all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    A few questions

I've heard it from my surgeon, and many others that a good plastics surgeon will not do a procedure until you're at goal weight and maintaining for a bit. The biggest reason being that you could wind up needing a revision done to what you've already had. This puts more strain on the body and of course costs more. Most insurances do NOT cover plastics as they deem it as cosmetic surgery. So check into that before assuming it does (not saying you are). I honestly heed to this advice. As much as I already want my excess skin gone, I am waiting til I'm at goal (and personally until after I have kids) to get it done because I don't even currently know how I'm going to afford it once, let alone a second time. Plus, I've followed the journey of a few different wls patients who had plastics and while some seem to bounce back quickly, not everyone is that fortunate and it can take weeks and even months of recovery. For me, I use spanx to help. I don't always need them just depending on what I'm wearing, but they come in handy.
  13. It definitely a good idea to taste numerous Protein powders before u hafta rely on them. When I was banded in 2009, I made the mistake of ordering cases of Muscle Milk and Isopure. That was a waste of over $130. I hated both. Never really found one I liked back then. When I went thru my sleeve revision last summer, I decided to try different brands/flavors. I stopped at my 3rd brand (Syntrax Nectar). Luv'd it. Got a pack of 12 sample packs (all different flavors) from bjsbaritatrics.com for $15.00. I also tried unjury and Premium (from Sams). I liked Syntrax the best. Not really fond of the ones u mix with Water (like strawberry kiwi, roadside lemonade, etc). I prefer the ones u mix with milk (cappucino and vanilla bean torte - mixed with sf coffee syrup). Adds a few more calories (also protein by 9gms) but ur drinking so little calories in the beginning, the extra calories are actually good. Just an FYI: I found out after my icky order from GNC.com had expired that whatever u order from the website, u can return if u don't like it. WOulda saved a boatload of money.

    Hello from New Zealand

Hello there and welcome! I think there are folks from all over the world here, and a good few from NZ as well! I did the revision from band to sleeve in April. The band wasn't working for me and I had some complications. In any case, this is a great forum for questions, support, and tough love as well.
  15. Me! I’m having surgery Dec 3 in Atlanta. I had lapband in 2010, lost 90 lbs. It slipped and almost killed me in 2014. Had revision to VSG in 2014 and now revision to bypass bc of severe GERD. Have Grade D esophagitis and been on protonix for years. Can’t wait to not have GERD anymore. Have gained about 10 lbs since 2014 and my weight right now is 154. Hoping to get down to 130’s. We will see if that happens!
  16. The revision was my 6th abdominal surgery, and I had a tiny thought in the back of my mind that the law of averages was going to catch up with me. The surgery went beautifully, I'm 2 weeks post-op, and the only thing I notice is that I tire easily. But I feel great. I agree with the others. Look to the positives. I still can't quite mentally accept the fact that I had most of my stomach removed. That's mind-boggling. But I know that I did the best thing for me.

Yes I had the lapband surgery there. Several years aft my lapband I had the revision to sleeve.
  18. Ok so when I saw your title I thought you were revising from RVY to VSG and had all sorts of wtf questions I wanted to know about the procedure. But since you hooked me, here are my two cents... HTH, and best of luck.
  19. I am 5'2 and weigh about 170. I currently have the lap band which needs to come out due to many complications. I have an appointment July 18, 2018 with the surgeon to talk about the revision. I think I would like to have the sleeve but am certain due to heartburn when I was pregnant he will recommend the bypass. I am terrified really. I started this journey because I seen my mother who was obese go through so many health issues that were weight related. I just want to be healthy and the thought of either surgery scares me that I will have created issues trying to avoid issues. I almost wish I would have never started. I am 52 years old and pray whatever decision the surgeon recommends is going to the right one.

    December 2021 Friends?

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you have to get revision?
  21. Just had my sleeve to bypass revision on the 6th. Sleeve was 2013 and the result was GERD and Barrets esophagus. So here I am. Physically more challenging this time but that could be cause I'm older. Good luck all. Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am loving my sleeve too

How are all the revisions doing with weight loss now that you can eat things you couldn't with the band? I am at a total standstill....I lost 15 imediately after the revision, but have gained it back and not losing anymore. Is anyone else experiencing this? Nancy
  23. @@mmy, When I first enquired about WLS last year, May 2015, I was at 32 BMI. I was already freaking out re my rapid weight gain, of 28 kg ..... I never had this problem before until 2014 Routine tests showed thyroid disease, so I had to put off my WLS for about 9 months, till my thyroid stabilised ..... By late February 2016, I managed to pile on another 12-13 kg, and my weight ballooned to 101 kg , BMI 37.1 My surgeon would have operated on me at 32 BMI, to prevent future health risks and to help my deteriorating emotional state. Unfortunately, with my Hyperthyroid (Graves Disease), it was too risky to be operated on. All up, I put on 41 kg (90 Ibs) in a 2 year period (was always slim before). If I did not have this surgery, I probably would be Double my normal weight now ..... I felt I was the only person on the planet that was obese with Hyperthyroid .... even though I now know that I had this disease most of my life, and it kept me slim until 2014. I have no regrets, I lost good amount of weight 7 weeks post op, for my height. I still have a long way to go, but each day is bit better .... My NUT revised my goal weight to 68-70 kg, and I was Not happy with that. I downgraded my goal weight to 65 kg (from 60 kg) I am starting to look better, my face is changing, my aches and pains and other health issues with my rapid weight gain are improving, I am happier, and life is getting better. Good Luck and Best Wishes

    Long-time bandster

Hello... Good to hear from other long term banders, I will be 8 years out next week myself. I had the 4cc/10cm band for over 7 years. You are correct they no longer use the 4cc bands in the US, there are still many oldies out there with 4cc bands that are doing well, but MANY have gotten their bands removed, or revised to other surgeries. Actually I wanted to keep my 4cc band, I lost a lot of weight with it very quickly and kept that weight off for over 6 years, but I could not longer get into the green zone without reflux, due to a hiatal hernia, so I decided to get my hernia fixed and the surgeon had to remove the 4cc band because they don't unbuckle without destroying the entire lap band system. I gained back over 50 pounds too because I had trouble keeping restriction (due to the hernia) in my 6th year and I decided enough was enough and got a brand new band replacement, I was not ready to revise to the Sleeve or Bypass. The longest person that I've heard that kept their 4cc band was Jessie Ahroni, (She actually wrote the first book on living with the lap band) she was 14 years post op, and someone posted on Obesity Help last year that she had her band removed in an emergency, and she updated that post herself and confirmed that she'd revised to the Sleeve. Apparently she was bending down and she said her band slipped really bad, and she had to have emergency surgery to remove it. Also I know a few that are 11 years post op, but they've had some replacements over the years, and are still doing good. Regarding my new AP 10cc band (Rebanded all in one surgery Nov, 2012), I love it, it feels softer on my body, and my band is tight and I have no reflux or burning, something that I had trouble with over the years with my 4cc band and I had to be on PPi's constantly -- but with my hernia repair and new band -- no PPi's reflux, or acid reducers and I am truly thankful to my new surgeon that fixed me. Good luck to you and I hope you have many more successful and uneventful years with your band!
  25. I am a bandster getting a revision sometime around June/July (depending on how long it takes me to save the $, I am self pay). My doc's stats are: We are happy to inform you that the latest follow up study shows that Dr. Aceves’ sleeve patients lose on average 96% of their excess body weight in under 12 months. Not all sleeve techniques are the same, some patients experience poor weight loss because of the surgeon’s technique. I trust my doc so much - he did great with my band surgery. I have no complications due to the band, just am not able to receive proper fill/aftercare here in the states like I had planned. I've only had 2 fills since my surgery Feb 4, 2011 and have lost right under 40 lbs. Can't wait for my sleeve bc I won't have to worry about follow up care other than labs, which ANY doc can do and my insurance will cover labs, but will not cover any sort of gastric adjustment. I really think that if I could see my doc 2-3 times a month I would of already been down 100 lbs or so by my year out - but that's just not how the cards fell for me. I am a fighter and I am not going to give up! I could of never afforded the Sleeve a year ago, but am going to be able to manage it now. Where there's a will there's a way. I need to find my happiness and sparkle again!! :ciappa:
