  1. I had vomiting since I first got the Band and once I was stuck so bad but it would not go up or down so my body was still trying to vomit it up and after a while I vomited some blood but was still stuck. Twenty minutes later I was vomiting blood clots. I was at a support group meeting at the time. Freaked my friends out. I called my Doctors office and they gave his cell number as it was a Saturday afternoon. I called him and he told me to get some Water and drink a tiny sip which I did and threw up more blood. Then I continued to take tiny sips for the next 10 minutes and thank God it went down. He told me he would meet me at the office in an hour if I needed to. I am more than an hour away from his office.I felt totally better and did not go in he told me to be on liquids for 3 days and that I had busted some blood vessals and that was what it was. For some reason the first year and a couple of months when I got stuck it always had to come up and out it would NEVER go down no matter how long I waited it out and I waited it out many times the longest was about 8 hours. I could feel it trying to go through the Band but was like stuck in the middle could not go either way. I also suffer from anixiety and the stuck feeling starts me in the direction of a panic attack. I usually have to let my med for anxiety dissolve on my tongue as it would not go down. My Doctor and I could never figure what was wrong. I had a Floro at every office vist, only have 3.8 cc in 10 cc Band. But after a while things just changed and things started going down instead of up. Almost everytime I have ever been stuck was with some type of chicken. I still get stuck some but not like in the first year. I know sometimes it is my fault as I do not chew enough. If I go out and eat with my son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren I can not sit next to the 4 year old as she talks so much I can not chew as she is waiting for an answer. Even with all the throwing up in the beginning I love my band and do not regret getting it. Cheri

    Fruit

Every morning with breakfast I have about 1/4 cup of the jarred ruby red grapefruit sections with its juice. It tastes really refreshing since I can't drink anything for 1/2 hour after that.Strawberries are in seaon here now and I am eating one with lunch every day. I have not had any issues with any fruit I have tried. Sometimes your doctor makes you wait several weeks before you can eat solid wholes fruits, but he will probably want you to take the skin off apples first.
  3. I did a 3 week pre-op diet haha. I am jealous of those who are only doing a couple days:P Anyways, just wanted to wish good luck to all of those who are having the surgery in the next few days/weeks!

Well I have now hit my target weight

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. It looks like my target date is feb 6th which is just three weeks away.I am more excited than nervous and I am ready to begin my new life
  5. I am having surgery on Tuesday, the 29th, and I cannot stop eating....I know I shouldn't be eating but there are so many leftovers and cupcakes/candy in the house from the holidays.... I know what I need to do so this is more of a "what the hell is wrong with me" vent. My friend had the bypass a few weeks ago and I was doing good until she scared the crap outta me and said, " eat what you want, because you won't be able to afterwards". I have been a mess since. ????
  6. Just because you can eat something doesnt mean you should... If you are still hungry or it doesnt hold your hunger for 4-5 hrs after eating 3/4 oz protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 starch you arent in the green zone and you may need a fill. It took me 4 fills to get there... but I managed to lose because I stuck to my portions and never went over my calorie allotment. I am not sure I have had the full feeling since I have been banded. But I have been satisfied... I learned there is a huge difference. Chat your Dr up about this and see what he advises.
  7. I keep reading on here about people having a hard time getting in 1 Tbsp of food or things like that but for me, since Dr said I could be on soft diet, I have no problem with 3-4 ounces of Protein. Today is the end of the 2nd full day and my calories are around 600/day and I have eaten taco cupcakes cheese, chicken, etc. Am I eating too much? I am not what you would call hungry, but have not problem eating the 3 oz portion I measure out. Help?
  8. Hi guys. This is just me being nosey. I like to visit the american pages (if you don't mind) its really interesting how things seem to be a bit different as far as banding goes. We have the NHS - where (SOME) overweight people can get their banding done free - although you need to wait a very long time (and the list is getting longer) - usually about 2 years and if anything goes wrong with your banding - its fixed free. I think you may need to pay for extra fills though. I got mine done privately - unfortunatley had to pay, but I couldn't wait any longer. When I went to visit the doc on 23rd May, I was in for 20 minutes and accepted straight away. I didn't have a complicated history and the doc could have fitted me in the following week if I wanted!! I have seen the dietician and had my bloods checked, but that was it. I see a lot of listing on yours with dates of certain appointments you need to go to before surgery. Can someone explain to me the process you need to go through and how long does it take. Does everyone have to pay in the US? N xx Happy 4th July by the way.
  9. If I really limit my carbs then I usually have a big loss that week. Follow my lap band blog www.biscuitsandexcuses.blogspot.com

Don't like to cook- can I make this work?

I have kids and hate cooking. I would prefer to eat 'assembled' food. Think sandwiches, salads, anything i can just throw together. My husband does grill chicken a lot for me..so that helps in re-heating throughout the week. Crock pot is good, but it takes 'planning' which i hate. lol

    Isopure

I bought a case of the fruit flavored Isopures from gnc.com before my band surgery 3 1/2 yrs ago. $58 and the worst thing I'd ever tasted! My nurse told me they tasted like Jolly Ranchers. Not sure where she gets her Jolly Ranchers but they didn't taste like em. I finsished maybe 1/4 of one and then I had to dump it. Yuck.
  12. I modified the chicken pot pie crepe recipe I made the other day to make a sweet crepe. carb chocolate crepes Crepes: 4 eggs 1/2 cup ricotta 4 tablespoons flour Pinch of salt 3 tablespoons milk . In a medium bowl beat the Ricotta with the eggs. Beat in the flour, salt, and milk. Allow to sit for 15 minutes. Heat an 8-inch nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Coat with vegetable cooking spray when hot. Pour in 2 tablespoons of batter and swirl the pan to coat the entire surface in a thin layer. Allow to cook, without turning, until completely done. The top should be no longer shiny and when you touch it it’s not wet. The bottom will be have a very slight golden color. If it’s too dark, lower the heat. (These can be impossible to flip and they don’t need to be, so don’t try if you don’t want to. I do sometimes to get the same color on each side, but they are done when it’s dry on the top.) Gently loosen the edges with a spatula and slide out of the pan onto a plate. Very lightly spray the top with vegetable spray – this way you can stack them on top of each other. Lightly coat the pan with cooking spray before each crepe. Proceed with above directions until batter is gone. Allow the crepes to cool to room temperature and then wrap the plate tightly with plastic wrap. These keep well in the fridge – unfilled – for several days. Filling: Filling (makes filling for 2 crepes) 1/4 cup ricotta cheese (low fat or fat free) 2 heaping teaspoons cocoa powder I packet artificial sugar (splenda or whatever you prefer) Mix the filling ingredients in a microwavable bowl Microwave for 15 seconds or until fairly well-heated Fill the crepe with the filling and enjoy!

    Post-Op Diet Tips

Do you have any tips on what to eat the first few weeks after surgery? I'm starting to buy stuff for my surgery (8/18/2012 with Dr. Alvarez). He has provided clear liquid diet instructions but if folks have tips on what kind of unflavored protein powder (what do you add it to? water? broth? or do you buy the protein broth?). I don't want to stock up on a bunch of stuff that I won't actually eat/drink. Any thoughts on the Isopure drink (it seems expensive...I was going to see if anybody uses unflavored protein powder with crystal lite or vitamin water zero? Not sure how that would taste). Any tips are greatly appreciated!!
  14. So excited to begin this journey. I've been on pre-op diet for a week now & it's been a breeze! They said to take a Metamucil if I got hungry. That worked well the one time I needed it. I appreciate everyone's comments & suggestions.
  15. Hey arthritis me. That name would fit me as well. To get weight off the joints is why I had the surgery. I lost a good bit of weight on Methotrexate too. I was 207 the day of surgery and I did not lose but three pounds in ten days. My surgery was dec 19. My weight two weeks ago was 197. I also had to stay two nights in hospital because I did not come out of anesthesia haze well enough to walk that night so I had more than enough fluids to shake. Also the less to lose the slower it goes seems like. Don't fret. It will come off. It seems like some do better once they start the real food opposed to the liquid phases. It's just all the Medicines given, IV fluids, and yur body simply trying to protect it's stores. Good luck to you! It will come off...
  16. You do look fabulous! It's great to see someone doing so well 2 years after. My dream is to look as great as you! I have lost 50 lbs. I'm half way there. How tall are you??? I'm 5'81/2 and my goal is 145. We will see what happens, I'm thrilled to have the first 50 off!!! It's been 12 weeks. I love to see these stories, your an inspiration!
  17. I think you're doing great....don't let anyone pressure u. I have been moaning and groaning as well about my stall...i guess they really are part of the process. I also agree with applesaucy...i dont really monitor my fats...only Proteins and carbs...for the most part if your carbs and proteins are in line, then your fats will fall in line also. I upped my Water yesterday to over 80 ozs and my proteins were over 80 and my carbs at 30...my calories yesterday were about 750. my stall lasted about a week and a half...
  18. I'm going to echo Julia's suggestion on fat grams. Your body needs fat, I'm not talking unhealthy, fried food yummy badness, but throw yourself some Peanut Butter, avocado chunks in there and then push clear fluids. Starvation mode isn't going to happen until your body exhausts all of it's fat stores, but your body does need good healthy fats to function. I had zero fat intake guidelines. Strictly to get in Protein, cut carbs, and push fluids. Eating full fat stuff worked fabulously for me, and I can honestly say that when I started looking at the fat free "light" stuff, it was full of sugar(carbs), and sodium. Those 2 things will stall out weight loss quicker than anything. Don't get frustrated, and don't give up.
  19. Totally normal. I know you won't listen...as I didn't listen when I was in your shoes...but I will say it anyways. Don't get on the scale everyday...or even every week. I weigh myself once a month now...and I am usually happy with the results...but when I was in the beginning I would lose...then go up...then down then up...it would drive me nuts. Weight can go up or down by five pounds a day. You will lose...just stop watching the scale and pay attention to all the clothes you shrink out of! Good luck!
  20. I am in a similar situation as you. I received my lapband in 2008 and quickly lost a few pounds. I don't know if I ever took it seriously. :smile2: Anyway, when I did decide to get serious about my weight loss. I found out I was pregnant (August 2009). I delivered a healthy baby boy on April 1. During my pregnancy I ate whatever I wanted & I never gained a pound. THANK YOU LAPBAND!!!! At my deliver date I was -5 lbs from my initial appointment. Now my son is 4 months old, its time for mama to get serious. Before my lapband surgery I was always on this website & day dreaming of the day I would be skinny. Anyway, the last time I logged in was April 28, 2009. Not anymore! I've made a follow up with my doc to get a fill next week & I will start over. I say all this, to tell you. You can start over during pregnancy. Or after pregnancy! Don't feel ashamed or embarassed of your progress thus far. You are not alone. Good luck & have a safe & healthy pregnancy. P.S. I was so tired while I was pregnant. I didn't excersise one time.

    Severe stomach pain

I am 15 weeks out, have been told to not eat beef for 6 months. I have difficulty with chicken and turkey. I suspect you will be very cautious from now on. I had a bad night when I ate small pieces of shrimp too fast. I am terrified of reliving that. I eat very cautiously. I am down 65 Ibs. Good luck.
  22. Just experienced my first horrible night. I am 10 weeks out. I ate one slice of rare beef, potatoes and a gravy sauce with pineapple and garlic in it. I started having some sharp cramping pains about 10 minutes later. I managed to rest and drive home. Later, I thought I was not going to make it through the night. Severe stabbing pain for 5-6 hours that came and went initially and then by 11pm to 2am became pretty intense. Vomiting was an issue. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced a similar situation? Is this because I ate such rich food? Is this a gallbladder issue? I am feeling pretty fragile today, can't really eat much just living on liquid diet today. I feel like I was beat up. Looking for some help explaining this. Thanks!

    Severe stomach pain

I am nearly 4 weeks out and had the same experience last week when I ate 1 piece of Mongolian Beef. Was sick with severe pain and vomiting for almost 24 hours. Not sure if it was the sugar content in the sauce or the beef. Horrible experience that I believe was dumping. Not going to make that mistake again any time soon!

  25. I had an interview yesterday. As a human resources professional it bothers me when the host doesn't ask the interviewee if they prefer to use the elevator or take the stairs. You never know if someone might have joint issues, heart problems, or anything else. We are after all HR and should keep these things in mind. Okay off my soap box. I was impressed that my host asked if I would prefer the elevator to which I said no. As we turn the corner I see that the stairs are actually one long staircase that was about 3 floors high. I was really excited that I could walk up the stairs, carrying my briefcase, and holding a conversation without gasping for breath. Oh and I got the job! Hurray. I have to go shopping this weekend because some of my pants are really to big.
