I agree about not stocking up on shakes. I still have some from my surgery almost 3 months ago. I put a couple ounces in decaf coffee for extra protein. I seldom want to drink a shake since I can eat food now. I still have sugar free jello and pudding too. I only made it once.

It is great to be thinking about this ahead of time! I agree with Splenda above, taste can change. I started drinking protein shakes a few weeks before surgery. I found two that I liked. After surgery, I have only been able to drink protein shakes on two occasions. They made me vomit. I do use Syntrax Nectar unflavored protein powder, to add to Crystal Light, oatmeal, pancakes, etc.
  3. Hi all, It's been a while since I have posted. Have been in a poor state of mind. It's been 18 days since my Sleeve surgery and though there was a good period of no pain it has surfaced again. My left side hurts immensely when I move. No movement no pain. I can't drink the protein shakes as I will through it up seconds after I consume. The surgeon's office said to try and dilute it with water so that it is not so thick. Tried that but didn't work. I am drinking 2-3 sips of pedilight every 30 minutes. I was at the ER for 9 hrs this past Friday night as all of this just hit my tipping point. They did a chest X-Ray an MRI and all the regular Labs. Everything came back normal. The MRI did show there was some inflammation but nothing to be concerned about and my white blood cells were fine so no sign of infection. Last night I scrambled a few eggs and they stayed in. This morning I sipped a peanut butter smoothie from Jamba Juice as it has 64g of protein. I got about a 1/4 of it down. Emotions are still all over the place. On Thursday we had to put our Boxer dog down as he developed a neurological issue that had incapacitated him. I know that this to shall pass. I did not expect to be so "un-recovered" this far out of surgery. I am assuming that since all tests came back in good standing the pain I am feeling is being caused by throwing up so much. Mornings are really bad as I am just expelling a lot of mucus. The "dry-heaves" are pretty insane so much air comes up. I am taking medication for bloating and gas and also something to break up the mucus. I see my regular doctor on Wednesday so maybe he'll have some suggestions. I hope everyone is doing great with their recovery! Be well!
  4. Hi all! I had surgery on 1/4 and am feeling a little down. I hear it’s normal, but I’m frustrated with the lack of progress. I’m almost 4 weeks out from surgery and down 14 lbs or so. How’s everyone else doing?

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Thank you all for the support. I had my one week post op appointment today. It went very well. While I was only on semi full liquids at my one week mark I am now on full liquids. (Malt o meal, cream soup, Greek yogurt- and removing fruit juices since those will now be empty calories) Tonight I’m having a little creamy soup rather than broth to see how that sits. I’m supposed to be setting up for 3 meals a day- it just seems like so much! Today I’ve had 54 oz of liquid- 20 of those being a diluted protein shake. (Coffee and a fairlife coffee protein shake) but I was also on the run all day! My appointment was in the morning, followed by a little shopping before meeting a friend at the gym for a walk followed by a hair appointment. I made sure to keep a water bottle on me and keep drinking as much as possible! But now I’m home and EXHAUSTED! Can’t wait to snuggle up with my pup and watch some tv! :)

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

I'm right behind you with my weight loss. I did have an issue with my teeth which stalled me a bit and I didn't want to consume anything. When I talk to my team they said I was back on track a little bit ahead of expectations and to keep up the good work.
  7. Hi All, I’m two weeks post sleeve. Getting concerned that I don’t feel ‘full’ after 6 tablespoons of food. This is causing me to worry in case I eat too much and cause problems. I’ve not been sick or had dumping syndrome so worried if something is wrong. Terrified that I’ll overeat and stretch my stomach. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just over worrying at the moment? I am assuming that if I ate too much - I would know about it. Appreciate any advice, thanks.
  8. 3+ years out and i still have days when I forget to eat. Once I realized its already 3pm and i haven’t eaten yet, I was STARVING. So here is my way too big, 474 calorie salad. Eating it now and anticipate that I’ll likely get through at about a 1/3 of it.

    First Appointment

My first appointment was about 5 minutes long. They weighed me, Took me to a room where a nurse went thru the paperwork and lab test that i brought from my medical record and asked me some questions, Surgeon came in after, explained what gastric sleeve surgery was and quickly read over the nurses notes and that was it. Got a binder with information on the steps needed to complete (Nutrition class, Support group, Psyc Eval) and in the mail a week later i got my lab orders and imaging orders to do.
  10. So, now am 3 months out with sleeve to roux n y revision and may have learned a couple things. Was originally on super low calorie low carb diet

    Determining Goal Weight

I do exercise - I'm not a gym rat, but I always tried to exercise 5-6 days a week. At first it was mostly walking and water aerobics, since I was too heavy to do much of anything else. I still do those - but I also now do Zumba and bicycling as well. I've also strength-trained off and on (twice a week) - but unfortunately not consistently because I don't really like it. But I recently started using resistance bands, which I like a lot more than the weight machines at my gym - so hopefully I'll keep up with it this time! as for calories, by the end of the first year, I was up around 1000 per day. Second year I was eating around 1200 until I hit maintenance at 20 months out. I then experimented with different ranges to determine my "maintenance range", which is 1500-1700 per day. As long as I stay within that range, I can maintain my weight. But of course that's going to vary for everyone depending on how much muscle you have, how active you are, etc. I know some women who have to eat around 1200 to maintain, and others who can eat 2000....
  12. Had a few of these recently and it's nice to remember it's happening: Showered at the gym (open stalls) - that was a bit of a process because I look pretty buff with my gym clothes on (arms and legs muscular and no loose skin, decent chest definition that's noticeable in a t-shirt), but my torso and the place I sit on look melted without clothes. But I did it. And nobody looked. Freedom. Got hit on by two girls in IKEA. In fact, I had to ask them if I could help them with something as they were staring uncomfortably long, and I've gotten pretty aware of that, having been fat for a long time. They giggled and one said 'oh we just thought you were cute hee-hee'. Oh. Oooh. I am honestly still reminded whenever two things happen: I need to tie my shoelaces or I need to sit on some flimsy chair. What a relief it is to simply ... bend down and tie those damn shoes! And if a chair breaks (thankfully, it never really happened), it's not my fault anymore. I have a 10-hour flight coming up and I've been lucky to get a business seat. Can't wait to feel how nice the extra space is, compared to before when it was absolutely necessary to pay 6x for a seat in the front to fit me.
  13. My surgery is also on the 17ht! I’ve ordered my vitamins, sugar free ice pops and protein shakes. I start my 2 week liquid/ modification site in the 2nd.

    A stall already?

I stalled every second week for the first two months, and the stalls sometimes lasted two weeks. then I'd get one week of weight loss before the next stall. That you made it a whole ten weeks before a stall is really impressive! As others have said - you just have to ride it out while sticking to the program. There's no one rule for how long stalls last, they just last as long as your body needs them to. They're frustrating and boring, but they do break.

9 months post op, weight loss stopped :(

If you're only eating 1000 calories at 9 months out, maybe try bumping that up to 1200 calories for two weeks and see how you do. (You're not going to "balloon"—200 extra calories a day for 14 days is about 0.8 lbs, if bodies were machines.)

    Everything

Wow! Your everything sure has a lot of stuff in it! JK those are all legitimate questions & things we all worry about pre-op. Some things to take into consideration is your starting weight & your age. The more you have to loose, the more excess skin you will have. If you are older, it might be harder for you to tone things up. The main thing is finding an exercise thing you can stick with! For me that has been Pilates. But even after doing Pilates 369 times I still have bat wings. I have always had a “poofy” stomach no matter how much I weigh, even at 100 pounds in my early 20’s. I would love to have a tummy tuck, but someone would have to die for that to happen so I will go without one. My daughter has that implant thing in her arm. She had a bypass just over 3 years ago (when she was 22) & has lost over 150. She has done great. I had a bypass to correct a failed surgery I had 12 years prior to control GERD that had failed. Because of this I have to take a Previcid for the rest of my life. As long as I don’t over eat (more then 3oz) & I don’t have spicy food the GERD stays under control. Today we ate lunch at a new place. But my husband & I both got heartburn! So we won’t be eating there again!

9 months post op, weight loss stopped :(

Hi there I’m exactly where you are I’ve been in a 3 month stall from months 6-9 and haven’t lost a single pound although I am about 12 lbs from where my goal was. This is however frustrating as I am eating under 1000 calories exercising 60 minutes daily by walking… the only thing I’ve slowed down on is my water intake which is about 42 oz a day. I’m wondering if this is the reason my weight has stalled…or perhaps it’s due to my exercise since I’m only walking but I do average 3 miles a day. They do say the closer you get to your goal it can literally stop…but this is a very frustrating feeling to have especially since my surgeon said after the one year point the weight loss generally stops….

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

It is tough I had to cook meals every day for my husband and two sons while i was on liquid and soft stage it was so so hard i just had to keep reminding myself i didnt want to injury my surgery line in my tummy. My son had his birthday and they got cheesecake during that time I did taste it about a pinkie nail amount and got really really ill. I sont know if you can get your hands on crushed ice but if you get some crystal light and put it over crushed ice and chew on that ice it does help woth cravings and the need to chew something. I was on liquids for a month before surgery so for two months i was fixing yummy stuff for my family while i couldnt touch it. Good news is pretty soon it just stopped bothering me. It will get better just stay strong. I feel, my husband agrees, I’m more happy and mellow since surgery. Ill be 6 weeks out Tuesday.
  19. I am scheduled for 2/3. Today was difficult. Weekends are less busy and I am around all the food. Only a few more days before we join the losers bench! I am on clear liquids on Wednesday. I work Mon, Tues, and Wed so I should be plenty distracted and do fine. I am very low energy today. Excitement builds as we get closer.
  20. I am scheduled for 2/3, too. I have only had two days that I felt over the liquid diet. Today was one of those days. Those shakes were hard to get down, and my energy was super low. But after 11 days of this and only a few more to go before surgery, there was no way I was going to cheat. Are you on a clear liquid diet Wednesday?

    Feeling bad

find a place that does the PCR test (the one you can get at pharmacies and doctor's offices - where they send your sample off to a lab and it takes 2-3 days to get it back). The antigen tests (the ones you do at home or the 15-minute ones you can have done at some places) aren't as accurate with the omicron variant as it was with the earlier variants - but the PCR is still very accurate with omicron.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

How are all my 2/3 surgery date buddies doing on their pre-op diets? It's been tough but doable so far. Today was the hardest. Watching football and not having pizza and all the junk food that I used to eat while watching football. Tried to treat my Fairlife Nutrition Plan shakes as dessert since it's sweeter than most anything else that I eat. Also struggling with low energy even though I am comfortably meeting all my protein and water goals. Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Anyone have high ferritin on lab work? What did you have to do? Just wondering because my doctors appointment is a few weeks away.

    A stall already?

I am 18 months post-op and have had several stalls. It’s quite common, and can happen at any time.

So I’m at the point where my hormones are definitely starting to change. I’m irritable and really seeing the fact that I have zero support from my mom or sister and that I’m in this alone. All I want to do today is chew on something- I think we all have this day. It has nearly been 3 weeks since I have had any sort of real food and I’m emotional about it. My mother does this thing where she takes all of her calls on speaker phone even when watching tv with someone else. This morning she was talking to her friend about the dinner her friend was making for some dinner party. This afternoon she and my sister were talking about what each of them was going to have for dinner- and it’s not even that I’m hungry- it’s just the thought of being able to chew real food sounds so good.
