  1. Lucky you about the shots. I had to take them because of the birth control I’m on. It’s been ruining my life for the past couple of months so I’m having it removed from my arm on Monday. And definitely don’t force the liquids. Drinking too much makes you feel like a brick just hit your pouch. And congrats on the 10 lbs!
  2. I only got three shots at the hospital and none to take home, I got then in the back of my arm, went to krogers and home depot today on the wheelchair thingies felt great to be out and about .. still scared to force liquids and have my pouch expand since Im still so inflated i feel like Im going to explode, other than that I'm down 10 pounds!
  3. I only had to do them a week but my bestie who is a CNA was busy so I did them myself! Longest most frustrating week of my life! Was so glad that he ended them after a week instead of the original 10 days he told me I had to do it

    In absolute shock

I have cardiac disease strongly in my family, before I got my cardiac clearance I had testing over a 3 week period. Like my BariBud BeeCat above I had all those, stress test , Holter Monitor etc. Did find a teensy anomoly, did not bar me from surgery but I will be on a every year check to make sure of no progression. And I gleaned a wonderful young female cardiologist in the deal. So it worked for the best. if I need more medication in the future, if I later require cardiac surgery, maybe 5-10% chance, she can and will take excellent care of me. Now I am 72 years old, yeah I know , not an usual age for major surgery let alone Bariatric surgery. But I am special, I am as healthy as a 45 year old, just trapped in a fat 72 year old shell. Peeves my PCP I have better test readings than he does and he isn't 50 yet. I told my Dr Needleman I would prefer an open rather than ending up as you did. These days 99,9% are laprascopic , so open is pretty rare. He leaned back in his rolling office chair, grinned and Said " Do you really want an 8-10 inch abdominal incision to have to heal?" I flipped up my 👕, and smiled back , I have an 6 inch right paramedian scar from 34 years ago when I lost my appendix and gall bladder. It lies just to the right of my navel, 3 inches above, 3 inches below. I smiled sweetly when I did it and he said " Okay, Okay, point taken. I'll keep that in mind!" His nurse told me later I had won THAT challenge. And Cardiology was only one of many. Began to think I should have had my good friend who will be my tattooist, put a representation of a legal tablet on the other side of my belly from the scar, that way each speciality could put their initials and date. And on September 5th At 7 AM EDT, Yes the first of that day, so if it takes more than 1.5 hours he will be in no rush, My REBIRTHDAY will come, my Wonder Wednesday when I become a " kangaroo" because like them I will have a little pouch. Scared, heck no! I drowned my fears in my tears long ago, now I yearn to start on my new improved life , use my surgical reconstruction for my benefit and live, baby, live!😝👍😷👍🌈

Best way to introduce eggs into the diet

Loved eggs all my life but couldn’t do them after surgery, they were horrible in any form. 10 months later I can enjoy them again and do almost daily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Pregnancy and weight gain

I’m almost 10 months post op and my doctors are fine with me getting pregnant as I’ve hit goal weight and plateau, they are fully involved so I don’t really need the lecture about waiting the 18 months. I was told to wait a year, unfortunately things happen and this happened and I’m dealing with it best I can. I was just wondering if other women had any tips or experience form being pregnant after the sleeve

    Pregnancy and weight gain

10 weeks pregnant or 10 weeks post sleeve and just pregnant. Either way you will be fine. Some women get so sick they eat very little through their pregnancy. The sickness can pass. Your team will assist with vitamins - keep up your fluids. Congratulations
  9. Had my band fitted 10 yrs ago done well with it was 18stone [emoji33] got down to 11st I was happy with that but past 3 yrs have been a nightmare:( .. I have a slipped band ( have done for few years ) but now it band coming out next week as my health is suffering bad cannot eat solids at all so I living off milkshakes!!! 10. Has anyone gotten pregnant after the sleeve? I’m 10 weeks and having bad food aversions and nausea. Idk how I’m going to gain weight when I barely ate before pregnancy and now even less with pregnancy because nothing looks appetizing and I’m sick half the time (not throwing up just nausea). I’m just nervous I won’t be able to eat enough to gain the recommended weight for pregnancy. Sigh! 😞

    need help or suggestions

use food app to track everything you eat cut out added sugars and keep all sugars under 10 grams per day no fruit cut your carb grams to 50 per day and they should all come from your veggies. no snacking do not consume any calories after dinner of any kind. Never eat if you are not hungry if nothing else get moving (walking) at least 30 minutes per day make your food choices from the 3 walls of your grocery store fruit and veggies (no fruit while stalled) Meats Dairy then use the 4th wall (the exit) avoid the middle of the store and if you have medical issues that you did not list in your very short post just ignore all this. good luck
  12. I had read (livestrong.com maybe?) that our systems can process about 8-10g protein an hour. It seems logical to me to spread the protein intake throughout the day, hence the 6 small meals per day plan my hospital advocates. I just put protein in everything I injest. By end of day I've hit my required 65g daily. I, too hate having my day parceled out into do this with this, and do that with that. But it's temporary, and we all find a rhythm that works for each of us. Had my 1st surgical post-op appt 10 days out from surgery. I was told that in 3-5 weeks I could expect to stop losing weight for up to a 14 day period - that it is normal, and it's just the body adjusting and catching up to itself - so not to worry. I'm glad they said that, or I'd be really upset and confused!!! So far I'm averaging about 1# per day wt loss.
  13. Hello everyone! I’m 12 days post op , down 14 days & I must say recovery has gone great! I’ve migrated to Purée foods on Day 10 & have been able to tolerate all that I’ve tried thus far. No issues, no complaints or any complications. Blessed! My hardest feat has been getting my 60 oz; in and I do that by starting early in the am and sip alllllllllll day! I get protein shakes in between that as well. Good luck to all those waiting for surgery! Best decision ever.
  14. Thanks to all for the wonderful replies! Before I continue on this particular topic, a bit more about me that is probably relevant to the discussion... sort of. :-) I am totally blind, and have been so since birth. What this means as it relates here is that my profile won't be very picture-intensive. Also, web-based forums are often a bit tricky to navigate with the tech that reads the contents of my screen. Please hang in there with me as I learn, and accept my apologies if I put the wrong thing in the wrong place. Anyway, on to the "good stuff." Mattymat, I just downloaded the Water Minder app on my iPhone to help with this. I think I'm probably drinking well over the recommended amount, but got the app to make sure after surgery. It says I should be drinking 82 ounces a day. at 10:40 AM my time, I'm already at 32. I don't make a hormone that tells me when I've had enough to drink, so I am thirsty all the time. In this case, that's likely a good thing. I had this discussion with my doctor, and she wanted me to cut down my water to about 48 ounces. I couldn't do it. I was thirsty all the time -- even more so than usual, and I felt terrible. I'll be interested to track fluids and see how much I'm actually drinking in a day. James, I appreciate your suggestions. I'm getting a Before picture taken so I have it, even though I can't see it. Having one seems important to me, somehow. If I encounter someone in ten or twenty years who did not know me at this weight, I might want to show a picture. I'm keeping an outfit, which will be a benchmark I can relate to. I used to walk a lot, but in the past year and a half, the edema has gotten worse, and I haven't done as much. I'm aiming for 10,000 steps a day, but for now, most of that is done on a stability ball. I'm trying to get back to more actual walking. Your comment about carbonated beverages and caffeine really hit home. May 7, I stopped drinking regular soda, and even harder at this time of year, sweet tea. I've switched to diet soda, and probably have one every day or every other day. I could see my intake increasing, and this is not the direction I want to go, so thank you for that reminder. Creekimp13, I've addressed the walking and water suggestions, but it is highly motivating to hear the same thing repeatedly. The imagery of getting out the fluid while walking is very compelling, and will help me push a bit more. Tall boots? What the heck are those? I think I haven't had the ability to wear those since age 8 maybe. Nearly any boots are almost impossible at this point, unfortunately. My jaw dropped when you said it gets up to 90 degrees and your feet don't swell anymore. Just having half of that to look forward to keeps me moving forward. My legs are enormous, and I'm short -- four ft. nine, so it's a challenge. I hate to even go up stairs when other people are around; I'm embarrassed at how slow I am. Frustr8: Good luck with your upcoming surgery. I can't wait to have an actual date! I have to have bloodwork, and can then make an appointment with the surgeon. Based on my research, I think I'd like to go the Gastric Bypass route, but would not be opposed to the Gastric Sleeve if she thinks it's best. I've worn pressure stockings, and they aren't fun. I'm not currently wearing them. My legs have lots of hills and valleys, and the stockings bunch in those areas, and very quickly start to break down the skin. So, for better or worse, no stockings for me right now. I'd love to hear about more of your journey! Thanks to all for such a warm welcome. When I started preparing for surgery, I thought I would kind of do the Lone Ranger thing. I could find the facts I needed, and that would be enough. However, as I got further into the process, I realized I would benefit from giving and receiving support, and am glad to have found this site. Lisa

    July Sleeve

That’s good to know. I should mention (if it’s significant) that I only lost 3 or 4 pounds on my 10 days pre-op diet. So maybe the extra weight loss was residual from those days? I have my first post-op checkup on Aug 1, and will meet with the nutritionist in addition to the surgeon.
  16. Yes! I take Opurity sleeve and bypass optimized. It only costs $10 per month but, the only place to buy it is Unjury. I think that their shipping is $7 worth it for me because I use their calcium and multi. If you have any trouble chewing it, try sucking on it. Taste is similar to a sweet tart to me. https://www.unjury.com/opurity-bypass-sleeve-optimized-chewable-new-formulation.html

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

We'll hold you to that promise, you know. Early 2019 is👶time for TexasMommy80, her Texas Daddy and l the Little Texan in her house. Just promise me they won't be Austin, Houston, Crawford or even Greg Perry, that would be too much, sorta like Lukenback with Waylon, Willie and the boys.

    Started at 29 BMI

Wow Im so happy I found this forum and topic!! Im a 30 BMI 5’ 3 170 and have dieted since I was 12. A few years ago I reached my highest weight ever of 229 but that was pregnant. my skin has been stretched out terrible. I lost 70lbs after losing the baby weight of 29lbs. So I got down to 130. But of course Im back up again. My pre diabetes keeps coming and going depending on my current weight. I honestly can’t handle it anymore. I eat 80 percent paleo not sugar or breads. No soda. I mean CLEAN!! But the scale keeps creeping up. I can’t work out like I use to do some health issues and joint pain. I don’t dare tell anyone because of the shame I feel about getting this done. I wanted to be a health coach and now Im having surgery. Its hard to explain. No one knows but my husband. So I have you guys to talk too. Im headed to Mexico next month to have surgery with Dr. Ponce at INT. Any advice on pre op and post op would be most appreciated. Im afraid of getting hypoglycemia after surgery. Also will I be able to work out hard like running and stay hydrated down the road? Im worried about throwing up and having acid reflex the rest of my life and regretting my decision. My doctor wants me to do 3 days before surgery of just yogurt and water. Is that really necessary? Also 10 days liquids. That freaks me out!!
  19. Well..... I am feeling pretty bad today because I have been gaining and am now at 8 pounds above my goal and all of it is in my stomach and thighs. Stress eating due to the fact that I am in grad school and the work load is intense. Having time for myself is starting to be a luxury. Anyway, I am really looking for help/advice at this point!! I admit that I have not been following the rules and guidelines. Thinking about it, I don't think I have followed much at all. I lost 70 pounds in 10 months with no exercise, couldn't chew veggies enough to tolerate, eat chips and baked goods too many times and hydration is a problem. Thankfully, I have never been hospitalized for hydration or any complications since sleeve surgery. But today I am trying to research what to do to reset the sleeve and what to eat etc. Joined a gym and went twice already.

Everything I asked you, you should know. BMR = Basal Metabolic Rate. This is how much energy/calories your body needs just to exist, think "in a coma" alive, but not moving, this is an important number. BMR decreases as we age and as we lose weight. So pay attention to this number. https://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/bmr Your daily intake, this is how many calories you are consuming total. Your daily burn, this is how many calories you are burning a day, this is BMR + normal activities + exercising. You stated your protein amounts, 60-80 is good. Your water is decent too. I'd try to see if you can increase that, we require lots of water just to function, adding healing, diet changes, exercising, increase our requirements and since our body uses water to breakdown and remove fat, you want enough to support your minimum requirements as well as allowing extra for fat loss. Are you tracking your body fat %? You don't need money for a gym. You can lift things you find around your house. A gallon of water is around 10 lbs and comes with it's own handle. When was the last time you checked in with your nutritionist and do they know you haven't lost anything in over month? They might want you to adjust your diet.
  24. I work in surgery with a surgeon that is in the Army part time. He was telling us that he had a Ruck March coming up and that he wasn’t looking forward to it. A Ruck March, if you’re unfamiliar, is a training exercise where the soldiers have to load up their backpacks with all their gear totaling up to about 60 pounds or more and go on a run.(that’s a very dumbed down explaination but the best I could do)  As he was explaining it to all us nurses in the room several of them exclaimed they didn’t they could even stand to wear the heavy load, let alone run with it. They, of course, range from petite to normal sizes up to maybe a size 8 or 10. Except for me in my size 18 and I just thought... that’s my life. I DO carry around an extra 60-70 pounds of weight on my frame compared to them. That’s why I struggle to walk, run or exercise right now, just as they would should they throw on a ruck sack. I can’t wait to shed my ruck sack and be able to jog, run, Zumba without it on.
