Does anyone actually like their protein drink?
wannaBthinsoon replied to AvaFern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GENEPRO unflavored. Tasteless and you can put it in anything, and has like 30gms of Protein per tablespoon, not per HUGE scoop. I put it in about everything. Can't taste it. Of course, if it was in just plain Water , I bet you could taste it. But I don't think I would ever consider doing that. You can find it at amazon.com -
I only drink the Lemonade one......rest are to sweet. I drink it every day with GENEPRO to get all of my Protein in. I have been drinking it for the last year and have not had a problem

Is eating fruit okay?
*Lexie* replied to pinkbunies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor approved fruit but just warned against any with seeds like strawberries which might irritate. Most mornings I have either a scrambled egg (or eggbeaters) with a scoop of sausage cooked into it and a small amount of cheddar cheese on top. It's a good Protein rich Breakfast. If I'm in a hurry, I have a hot chocolate with a scoop of GENEPRO Protein powder. I eat beef Jerky as a snack. I don't need to drink as many Protein shakes if I have some beef jerky. And it's delicious. -

Hi everyone! I'm Morgan, and I was sleeved on 12/5. I'm about 3.5 weeks out. The first day was ROUGH. I pretty much vomited from the time I woke up until the next morning. I'm doing well now, and just really trying to adjust to this new normal. I am having trouble getting all of my protein in, though. I do really love Genepro. I hear a lot of people mix it with coffee, so I might try that. I can't tolerate flavored protein shakes (my pouch HATES) artificial sweeteners, Sylvia, Trulia, and sugar alcohols. Premier Protein had been the worst so far for me. Are there any other options out there that actually taste decent? -

Any Vegetarian Recommendations for the Soft Diet Stage
jenifaoh replied to ItsABearDance's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Butternut squash soup with a scoop of genepro powder was a go to. Veggie chili made with black beans, lentils and soy grounds. -
I don't think the taste is bad at all, SassyMedic. I put it in Kool Aid and in broth, and I even made a great decaf chai tea the other day with it and added a small amount of vanilla Premier Protein shake to finish it off. I made the hot tea the night before with Celestial brand Decaf Mountain Chai 3 bags and let it sit out at room temp all night. Then I woke in the morn and out the tablespoon of GENEPRO in. It looked clumpy but I kept mixing with a fork and then went to take a shower. When I was done with the shower it was completely dissolved and no clumps, added the vanilla shake and put it in a coffee mug to take to my therapist appt. over 30g protein in that puppy and it was delicious! The need to eat until stuffed
MrsSugarbabe replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ShelterDog64 -- You mentioned earlier using unflavored GENEPRO in your morning coffee -- do you have to keep the temperature of the coffee at a certain temp to keep the Genepro from clumping? My morning coffee alone fills me up, but has no Protein so I'm wanting to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, and I've seen that several folks use Genepro in their coffee. I just want to be sure before I order a tub of it. I use @@unjury Protein Powder to supplement my daily protein intake and love it, but it will clump if the Water temp is above 140 deg. (chicken Soup flavor). I make my own latte in the afternoon and have switched from hot to iced so I can use the unflavored @@UNJURY in the latte. This is working well so far, however, sometimes I want a hot latte in the afternoon. Thanks for any suggestions! -

I like the strawberry Premier Protein, but milk products are causing serious stomach issues right now, so I had to put that on hold. I also like the Genepro in Crystal Light, but I only count about half of the protein. -
I was supposed to, but I have problems with artificial sweetner so I bought Genepro. Its flavorless so I can mix it with anything, I really, like it.

I've tried genepro. That's what I currently use if I don't get enough throughout the day or something but I don't chose to use as an everyday thing. I hate powders and it's been easier to get down than any other powder I've tried, but a powder can only be so good.. I've found that if u mix it with something really cold like a smoothie or slush or really hot tea or coffee it tastes better. -
I use Genepro, it has 30 g of protein in a pretty small scoop! I found it easier to get my protein in after surgery with this vs others with only 10g/scoop. 👍🏼

@ LisaGB: First I was 58 (just turned 58) when I had my surgery and my life has changed drastically!!! So don't worry one bit that you think you might be too old....like most people on here our only regret is that this surgery wasn't available when we were younger...but believe me, I am making the most out of every day now!!! If you are looking for inspiration, read some blogs...they were so helpful to me. I kept a blog every Sunday for the first year so you can see a little what to expect. You can see it at http://www.queenofcrop.com/about/%C2'> Then when you read that page you can decide if you want to start at the beginning which I recommend. I started writing again a few months ago, but it is in a direction that is not for everyone....the first year is all about the weight loss. For protein powder, I started using one that was recommended here and it is far, far superior to any other in my opinion. I cannot tell you how many PP I threw out!!!! This one has NO FLAVOR and 30 grams of protein. You can order it from Amazon. It's called GENEPRO Molecular Tri-Protein Peptide. Don't waste you money on other things. As far as exercising.....start slow...get some weights and just use them when you are sitting down. I have read about many others who were on walkers and after the first month they had a Walker Burning Party!!!! You will do just fine and I suspect your diabetes will be history too!

July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
KarenLR75 replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This actually has what I call a 'small scoop'. It is from a small bag of Genepro unflavored/medical grade protein powder that I THINK i got from BP, but I may have gotten from Amazon. Will have to check. I'll attach pictures showing the scoop next to a Premier Protein shake so you can get an idea of size. A 'scoop' (small scooper) is 7.2 grams which is roughly equal to a little over 2 tsps so you can see that it is a LOT of protein (30 grams) for a small amount of "powder" although I still calculate all of the calories, etc. that come from it. Sometimes I don't need an entire '30 grams' as it is = 58.7 calories. Sometimes I do a 1/2 scoop or roughly..a little of 1 tsp. It all depends on where my calories are at for the day. However, if I am not hitting my protein or need a boost, then I don't worry about the extra 58.7 calories. There were days when I was having an issue getting any 'real food' in and then I added this stuff to diced peaches, yogurt, you name it. However, my calories were very low so the addition of the extra 58.7 calories didn't matter. For 1 scoop if you use entire amount - besides 58.7 calories, there is .3 grams of fat (negligible to me), 0.6 gms of carbs (negligible to me). 0.6 sugars (negligible to me) and 30 gms of protein. Here are the pics of the nutrition info and the baby scooper next to my premier protein drink (I do NOT add anything to the premier protein drinks as they already have 30 grams of protein..lol). -

I was sleeved on 12/21 and have lost 31 lbs since then. I also have a stair-step pattern of weight loss - lose, lose, lose, stall, lose, lose, lose, stall. I am really big on hitting my Protein goal of at least 60g per day and I track everything I eat in My Fitness Pal. I eat small "snacks" every 2-3 hours. I have been in physical therapy to rehab a bad knee that is preventing me from engaging in most cardio exercise, so I have NOT been very physically active at all, but working toward getting there. Here's what I eat in a typical day - usually between 800-1,000 cals. Breakfast - Danon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt mixed with 1 scoop Genepro Protein powder Snack - String cheese + mandarin orange lunch - Small cup of chicken chili Snack - 1/4 c. tuna salad spread on three wheat crackers dinner - 1/4 c. Bolognese sauce over "zoodles" Snack - chocolate protein powder smoothie mixed with light almond milk and 1 TBS Peanut Butter HW - 270 SW - 244 CW - 213 5'5"

I've been super nervous about the genepro. I just don't see how they get so much in such a small scoop! I hope it's true. I ordered unflavored piping rock and the scoop is HUGE Takes me a whole day to get in a scoop in my liquids. The matrix nectars were very good (certain ones) preop but now even they are nasty. Guess I'm just roughing it out til food comes

Why is everything sweet?
ridgerunner replied to doppelganger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After a lot of Googling this subject I found a product called GENEPRO. It takes half the amount that you need of other products for the same quantity of Protein because they put it thru a process that takes all the excess unnecessay byproducts out. It also mixes easier because of this and as far as taste, I myself barely taste it. I have mixed it in cold and Hot drinks and foods and it mixes very easily. I am very impressed with this product. Non flavored protein powder

Genepro by musclegen research -
Hi everyone. I’m 3 weeks post op and currently in the “puréed food” stage of my diet. I’m having a really hard time having one single meal a day. I am tolerating tuna well so I’ll be able to have about 6 bites/3 quarters of one of those starkist packets over 40 minutes with slow chewing and long pauses. But truly no more than that a day. I’m meeting my protein goals with genepro in water and a protein shake daily. But I’m really struggling with food. Is this normal a few weeks out?

I avoid artificial sweeteners. I do get my protein in with Genepro in my coffee and with eggs, chicken, etc. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

My body feels awful...
Jennifer Rogers replied to Overcomer_Rev1211's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Overcomer_Rev1211 I'm 2 weeks out tomorrow, and I'm struggling with everything you are. Everytime I stand up, I get so dizzy my vision dims for a second. It scares me. I also feel HORRIBLY weak. I started out being able to get all my fluids in, all my protein, and I was walking every day. That lasted a week...this entire second week, I haven't walked once, I've gone the last 4 days with MAYBE 24g protein per day (and that's pushing it, and I'm only getting half my water down. NOTHING appeals to me. I think I'm just burned out on the full liquids and I'm waiting for an order of Genepro protein I got off Amazon...it's supposed to be fantastic and I can add it to ANYTHING I eat. I'm looking very much forward to my first post op appt tomorrow and getting the go ahead to begin the puréed phase. I am praying I start to feel better soon, and I'll pray for you too. It's definitely no fun. Much harder than I imagined. And I didn't come into this thinking it'd be simple, but crap! -
sleeve buddy in San Antonio ?
Erato Calliope replied to Shilatte's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@rln, I was able to start driving once I was off the pain meds. Pre-op j was using GNC's Total Lean 25 powder shakes. I found the powder more filling and creamier than the pre-made Total Lean 25 shakes. Post-op, I do the pre-made since they are a bit thinner and go down easier. I do the powder Total Lean every so often but I use Water instead of milk. Also, I was using Unjury's unflavored Protein powder to get an added protein boost to my Soups and other foods. However, I've switched to Musclegen GENEPRO unflavored Protein Powder. I can only find it on Amazon or on Genepro's website, though. It's about $10-$15 more than Injury, but you get much more out of it because you only need 1 tablespoon to get 30g of protein. unjury is 21g for a larger scoop that is = to about 2-2.5 tablespoons. Additionally, the Genepro dissolves much better in food and drinks. In regards to diet, technically, I'm supposed to be on soft foods till 6/22, but I'm actually eating whatever. For the most part they are soft but this weekend at a birthday party I had about 4 chips but I just chewed them very, very well. Most foods are soft as long as you chew well, ya know? I try to limit my carbs because my nutritionist promotes the low carb diet, but I don't freak out. In my opinion I'm eating so little that a teaspoon of rice or 4 chips once or twice a week isn't the end of the world especially if everything else that enters my mouth had a high nutritional value. I do need to start upping my veggies because a high protein diet is killer on your lower digestive system. Fiber gumnie and stool softeners are a must. Lastly, I'm also taking 1 Probiotics pill daily. It has 4 billion active cultures or whatever the term is that they use. Supposedly, and you may be able to find more about this searching the boards, there was a scientific study that was done on bypass patients testing the affect of probiotics on weightloss and the group that had the probiotics lost a much higher percentage of weight. I know that was for bypass patients, but probiotics can help everyone even if they don't help me lose weight, IMHO they help digestion in general.I'll look for the link to the article and I'll post it. -
Remember, fluids are the most important thing for us right now (I was sleeved 6/2), but there are good ways to get protein in without the shakes. Do you have any of the protein powders? I have two different powders: Isopure Zero Carb vanilla - 25g protein per scoop, and GENEPRO tasteless powder, 30g protein per scoop. The Genepro is really spendy, so I use it sparingly - mostly using the Isopure. You can get them both through Amazon. Here are three of the things I've been eating: Super Milk Pudding: SF pudding (I like cheesecake flavor) make up with 2c skim milk and 2/3 c powdered skim milk. Makes 8 servings 1/4 c each. You can add a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder if you want to amp up the protein. Without the powder it's 3g of protein per 1/4 cup (which is a great amount, I've found). If I add the protein powder, it doubles the protein to 6g. Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice: Cook Cereal according to package directions. Dissolve 1 scoop protein powder in 1/4c milk. Stir into hot cereal. Mix in 1/8 t cinnamon and one MINI squeeze of Stevia (if that - I found it too sweet so next time I'm leaving out the Stevia altogether). This makes 2 servings 1/2 cup each. It slides right down and has 15g of protein in each of the 2 servings. Broth: Heat 1 c broth (homemade or canned low sodium) and mix in 1 scoop Genepro tasteless protein powder. 30g protein in the one cup. Anybody else have any good ideas / recipes for "full liquid" recipes????
