Psycologist or Dietician?
missjoany replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could call your nutritionist to discuss the right foods to eat, and maybe count calories. You could also call your psychologist to discuss your feelings with food and how to deal with them. One day last week I felt like eating "just something". I opted for a yogurt instead of something sinful that I would have eaten in the past. I contacted my nutritionist when after 3 weeks I was extremely hungry. She has always been helpul. Good luck with your journey, I think most of us are having the same feelings. -
Map out your day, once banded, and you will be able to lose. I do not follow all rules of the band (I eat about every two waking hours), but I still lose. Your schedule will differ from mine, but the concept is the same: Know what you are going to eat the day before you eat it and stick with that. Here is a sample schedule from my day: 5:20 - out of bed, drink a sugar-free Red Bull 5:40 - on bike 6:40 - end of ride, time for a shower 7:14 - Drop son off at school and begin commute - Eat a Quaker Oats Breakfast cookie and bottle of Water 8:30 - Arrive at work, with meals in small cooler type lunchbox 8:45 - Eat one yogurt and one sugar free pudding - bottle of water 30 min after 10:30 - eat Clif bar - water 30 min after 11:50 - lunch - tuna salad and Soup 2:00 - Yogurt and sugar free pudding bottle of water 30 min after 3:30 - Red Bull - time to wake up. 5:00 - Start commute to gym - eat a Clif Bar and drink bottle of water on way 6:00 - arrive at gym 7:30 - leave gym 7:45 - arrive home and have some type of fruit and water...if it is a cheat day I may have a little full-fat, full sugar ice cream...moderation is key - never buy more than a pint at a time, then tell yourself not to finish off the pint that week. :cool2: In bed by 10:00 - non-essential chores get done on weekends.

What you eat on an average day?
bindi2203 replied to AngelWithHorns's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi i am almost 6 months out now. I eat i guess pretty much normal foods. like i did before, just not the same amounts. i pretty well now just eat off a bread and butter plate, and i find most times that satisfys me. For Breakfast i eat things like rolled oats, or poached egg on toast. or it could be friut and yogurt, what ever i feel like. lunch is usually a salad of some discription, and at the moment i am really into ones made with this really nice and easy low fat dressing, It is basically. 1/4 c white vinegar 1/4 cup of equall sugar ( not packed tight) or splenda a few drops of sesame seed oil, no more than 1 tsp total 1/4 c Water 2 tbs soy sauce. pinch of salt and that is it. put it into a shaker, and shake it very well. I also add some small diced fresh chilli, and i love a bit of bite, I tend to chop the vegies very small into it, as though making a salsa. some of the things i add are as follows, just to give you some ideas. 2x fresh truss tomatoes 1/2 avacardo 1/4 spanish onion finely diced 1/2 cobb of fresh corn I shave them off the cobb with a sharp knife. bunch of asian salad greens, or lettuce what ever you like, also chopped good handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped. 1/4 red capsicum 1/4 green capsicum or yellow what every i have on hand 3-4 button mushrooms 1/2 lebanese cucumber diced small i also add a good handfull of mixed sunflower and sesame seeds. just before adding the dressing. I find this goes really well with grilled fish or chicken. or some times i will have it just by itself with some cut up egg or shaved ham for the Protein. I hope you guys enjoy. also i make it up and there is always some left over for the next day. it tastes just as good as left overs. cheers. -
Weird feeling and need ideas for full liquids
laurenica23 replied to bandedincali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told drinkable yogurt fulfills a full liquid. The Light & Fit yogurt has a drinkable version ... I love the strawberry banana. It's only 80 calories, too. -
Sippy cup?! Thats genius! My doctors list is: ~Gas X ( I bought the dissolving strips) ~Liquid Multivitamin (I found Centrum in a liquid) ~SF popsicles (for dry throat) ~SF Jello ~Broth ~SF beverages (I prefer water) ~Protein drinks ~Mini spoons to help you eat smaller (Im buying a baby spoon) ~Beneprotien ( I found this on my own. Its has no taste and even better NO SMELL! 5g of Protein in each serving so great to add to yogurt of water) STAGE 2 ITEMS ~Food processor ~Eggs, tuna, canned chicken, low fat mayo ~Cream Soups ~SF pudding ~Oatmeal ~Instant mashed potatoes ~Yogurt I still have a few small things to pick up as far as food but I am well stocked for now. Oh and my DVR is loading with good things to watch during down times.

Weird feeling and need ideas for full liquids
susan1961 replied to bandedincali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any yogurt marked 'light' is generally sugar free, even though they don't say 'sugar free'.... the activia light I buy contrains sucralose, one of those low cal sweeteners. I was banded December 17. I had a similar feeling. Since it would improve after burping I believe it is due to distension of the sac, which can occur from air as well as from fluids/solids; the process of eating liquids often results in significant ingestion of air. I think that's pretty much if for full liquids. Good Soups were the mainstay for me. I have now been advanced to soft foods and there are certainly more options (thank goodness). -
Overwhelmed with food choices
heidikat72 replied to KittyCathy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
check out the blog "the world according to eggface" - tons of easy great food ideas! other suggestions: yogurt, tuna or salmon packets (both come in a variety of flavors, high in protein, low calorie and don't need refrigeration so easy to take on the go). maybe try to plan out a few days in advance at a time so you don't feel overwhelmed in the moment of trying to figure out what to eat right then. -
I don't think its bad necessarily for you to be below 1000 caories for a few days -- but IMHO its all of the yo-yo dieting we've done over the years that has messed up our metabolisms -- so a low calorie plan for a few days or weeks might trigger gain once you start eating more calories. And of course if you cut out carbs, once you have them you could regain some, but with that said, instead of a liquid diet - have you tried the plateau busting diet? I am sure you have seen it: (I have it saved but haven't tried it yet!) Dr. Fox' weight loss plateau/stall diet. Heard of it? It's ONLY for 10 days.....We could easily drop 10 pounds doing this...<o =""></o> 2 quarts of Water EVERDAY<o =""></o> 45 grms Protein supplements EVERYDAY<o =""></o> Daily Vitamins<o =""></o> 3 oz. of the following 5 times a day<o =""></o> Beef<o =""></o> Pork<o =""></o> chicken<o =""></o> <st1:country-region><st1 ="">Turkey</st1></st1:country-region><o =""></o> Lamb<o =""></o> Fish<o =""></o> eggs<o =""></o> low-fat cheese<o =""></o> cottage cheese<o =""></o> plain yogurt<o =""></o> Peanut Butter<o =""></o> beans/legumes<o =""></o> <o =""></o> You can also have sugar free popsicles (no real fruit ones though)<o =""></o> tea/coffee/diet soda/crystal lite<o =""></o> 30 mintues of exercise a day.....or more if you wish. Hi Everyone! Just got banded yesterday!!!
yougogirl commented on Jackiepurs31's blog entry in Blog 56939
Hang in there because it gets easier day by day. I was not hungry for the first 5 days. Moving to creamy foods, especially yogurt and pudding was like winning the lotto. The key is to keep a positive attitude and to remember that this is the first steps in taking back your life! -
How Do You Know If You Need An "un-Fill"?
Cocoabean replied to bandedehs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you cannot comfortably eat solids, you need a slight unfill. It is not an admission of defeat. You NEED nutrition to lose weight. You just do. Sliders are yummy. But they don't keep you satisfied and you can get a bunch of calories down with sliders if you are not paying attention. The more times you get stuck on solids, the more you turn to sliders out of desperation. You don't have to have ALL the fill removed. A 0.5cc unfill can make a dramatic difference. I needed an unfill once. I got a 1cc fill. I was too tight for a week. I got stuck on string cheese, yogurt, and mashed potatoes. I couldn't take it any more. So, I got 0.5cc removed. IMMEDIATE relief! After everything calmed down for a month I went back and got what I'd had removed put back plus another 0.5cc for a total 1.0cc on that fill. -
Unflavored protein?
BLERDgirl replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the isopure. I emailed the company to verify that heating it would not denature the protein. I use it in pretty much everything. I add it to tea, I really like adding it to soup or vegetable broth. I mix it with yogurt, and I've even mixed it with egg salad & my scrambled eggs prior to cooking. It's a nice protein boost. It was really helpful in the early full liquids stage it was especially helpful. Instead of drinking 3 shakes a day, I did 2 shakes and then in the even I would have veg broth with unflavored protein powder added. It was a nice break from all the sweet of the shakes. Nowadays if I have a day where I may be running around I put a scoop in a small container in my bag. Then I can grab any beverage along the way and add it to make sure I'm getting in my protein. -
Instead of milk, trying mixing your favorite cereal with some greek yogurt. Tastes great, stops it from being a slider food, and adds TONS of protein.

Need encouragement from slow losers
Briswife15 replied to Briswife15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, Fluffy and GradyCat! I needed reassurance that it is possible! I'm still on shakes, 2 ounces of ricotta, or 2 ounces of non fat Greek yogurt. Nothin' carby or crappy in my diet, and I plan to keep it that way!! Trying pureed boiled egg for lunch today. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

How do I know I'm full?
jane13 replied to theatrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@theatrejo -time yourself and measure. If you are eating for more than twenty minutes you are probably full. I would stick with hydration being you priority at this point. Yogurt is a slider so its hard for me to feel full on it at four months. I have pretty much been able to eat a 5oz cup from the first day of soft foods on 3 days post-op. -
My dietician gave me the following advice and I hope this helps you. After surgery your on a liquid diet for approximately 2 weeks. Must be in liquid form, thin enough to pass through a straw, smooth, has no lumps and no fizzy. Suitable fluids Commercial Protein drinks Plain Water Coffee/tea Drinking yogurt fruit juice Vegetable Juice Tin strained soup/stocks They also recommend you take a liquid Multivitamin. For constipation take prune juice or benifiber. Hope this information helps you, I could email you the information which will be in more detail if you like, just email me your email address.

I am 25 days post op. I lost 18lbs preop, 11lbs by 11 days postop and then bam... Stalled. I've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks. I am on full liquids consisting of 3 protien drinks and 2 yogurts a day. It's so disappointing to be on such a restrictive diet and not lose the weight. The nutritionist tells me it's normal. At this point, I regret having the procedure done.

Some NSV (and a scale victory too!)
Malaika replied to Malaika's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Actually you can eat 24/7 if you want - they have pizza and ice cream available on the Lido Deck 24/7; plus all day long on the Lido deck you can eat and to top it off, you can get room service (FREE) 24/7 ... so the only really "planned" meal is dinner. We just avoided the dining room and Lido Deck as much as possible. No pizza and only 1 small frozen yogurt cone. -
I was head hungry too in the 2nd week. I went out and bought yummy flavored yogurts and coffeemates to put in my decaf coffee. When im craving something i sip on that cause out takes forever

I can't get my protein down and I'm 3 days post op.
JamieLogical replied to aprilsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you allowed drinkable yogurt in this phase? That might help you get a little more Protein in. And definitely try different types of Protein shakes and powders. If you have a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe in your area, you should be able to buy individual packets to try out. -
How much should I eat?
ladylace replied to wildGoose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have same question...I am 4 days shy from my 3 weeks out... and idk what to eat exactly..or if I'm eating to much or too little.. I'm kinda all over...sometimes I'm starving. and can maybe eat half cup soup and a cup of sf jello pudding and drink 20oz of protein shake and a yogurt. lol and some day can only drink 20z of protein and sip on vitamin water through out the day... -
@@yescobar Are you logging your food on myfitnesspal.com or their phone app or some other program? MFP is really helpful to see if you are getting in the required amount of Protein, Water, and if you are limiting carbs and getting enough Fiber and whatnot. If you are not, consider getting an account so that you can see if you are getting enough protein every day. The phone app allows you to scan barcodes if you eat something premade like a frozen dinner or a container of yogurt. In regard to your protein powder, if you mix it with soy milk or cows milk, you will get extra protein on top of whatever the unjury has. So, for example, I use Body Fortress. A scoop of it has 30 grams of protein, and an 8 oz glass of milk to make it with, you will have 38 grams in one fell swoop. Also, as an exerciser, you might want to consider your calorie intake. I try to get in close to 1200 - especially on days when I exercise. If you are only eating 500 or 600 calories you will probably need to up your caloric intake to revamp the weight loss. The body gets stingy when you are not eating enough.

Swallow or crush pills?
Freckles70 replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, please check with your doctor or pharmacist. The type of pill really matters. In terms of general rules, I was told I could swallow anything that was smaller than an M&M. For me that means I only need to cut my metformin pills (they are huge...hopefully I'll be off them soon anyway) and I need to empty the capsule of Prilosec and take with a spoonful of pudding or yogurt. The pharm did need to change my metformin prescription from the extended release version so I could split them. -
12 Days Away: Liver Shrink
MSWMike replied to ShareeB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm on day 6 of 14 of my liver shrink diet. All I can have are protein shakes, any no calorie drinks (as much as I want), and sugar/fat free Greek yogurts. I'd love to have something to chew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I've been stuck a couple times, mostly about a month after surgery. About day four after my third or fourth fill, I got a piece of chicken stuck, I was talking and forgot to chew well. I PB'd once, I had a blackberry stuck and after a few minutes and a tast of pineapple juice, up it came. Yogurt I have to eat slowly or else it back up a little and I gurgle. Lately, I've had no problem getting almost anything down! I defintely need a fill!
