Welcome to Bariatric Pal. Many people encounter stalls along the way. Someone on this site coined a phase to describe this condition. It was "Embrace the Stall". So if you are not losing the weight at the moment then focus on other wins. Such as a drop in clothing size or throwing a medical condition such as diabetes into remission. Sometimes these are referred to as NSV which means non-scale victories. They can be simple things like fitting into an airline seat without using a seat belt extender.

Working out in the new bathing suit - LOVE IT!! Congrats on the NSV. It couldn't have happened at a better time than right after an intense cake craving! Good for you! -
FINALLY! Onederland! I can't remember the last time I didn't see a "2" as the first number on the scale. Seeing the "1" this weekend was just surreal. I think I must have stepped on and off the scale at least 10 times. What a motivator! I feel like I've accomplished the impossible and now ANYTHING is possible!! ~40 to go (I'd like to hit 50 just to have some wiggle room). For those who might be struggling after the first couple of months - Months 1-3 were EASY - weight just fell off. Month 4+, slowed A LOT (as in less than 8 a month) - Being able to eat pretty much anything I wanted without having an upset stomach didn't help. I was hoping to be under 200 by the end of December. Stalled (much of it my fault for choices I made, and simply my body catching up), got frustrated, felt sorry for myself, etc...and at times even wondered if it was possible or if I was just going to stop there with my weight loss. Booked a vacation and decided that I WOULD be under 200 before I left (next Sunday - nothing like cutting it close!). Got back on plan, made better choices, and quit feeling sorry for myself and WOO HOO - Major goal #1 accomplished. If you're struggling, hang in there, refocus, know you aren't alone in this journey and make up your mind that you CAN do this. NSV's this week - I didn't see the "OMG, PLEASE let this fat lady be seated ANYWHERE but beside ME on a plane" look. People actually look me in the eye rather than past me. Servers @ restaurants are concerned that the food they served me wasn't good because I didn't eat much. I got more work accomplished onsite because I didn't need a lunch break (quick protein bar and I was good to go). I could go to ANY store and buy some cheap clothes for vacation - Can't wait to rock that bathing suit coverup in Hawaii next week!

2 Week Up Date Post op....
Jammin & Losin replied to Jammin & Losin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well I'm on to my 3rd week being a bandster and I'm doing great!!! I'm down 11 pounds and I'm able to eat lots of different things right now which is great that nothing I've tried has bothered me yet. Also I was very excited that Tuesday I got back results from my cholesterol screening and in November it was 257 and it is now down to 177 Whoohoo I would consider this a definate NSV and I'm so glad that it is down in a normal range and my Dr. said I should be able to completly get off of the cholesterol meds soon. now if I can get that blood presure down so I can quit the blood presure meds I will be in really good shape and on my way to a smaller and healthier me. 2 and 1/2 weeks left till I get my 1st fill!!! -
Way to go jtag and Ang - outstanding and inspiring NSVs!!!!!!

What have you physically done that made your heart happy?
VSGAnn2014 replied to carolscience's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My physical NSVs are amazing -- things like walking anywhere I want to go in the city and not being afraid of knee pain and exhaustion and being unable to get back to where I started. Like today -- I mowed the front lawn, the side lawn, the garage lawn, picked up tons of downed timber on our property (storms around here), trimmed rose bushes, weeded flower beds -- and wasn't the least bit tired! Before WLS, I hadn't worked that hard that easily in years! Like this weekend -- we went to hubby's high school reunion (400 miles away), and I kept up all weekend, stood at the cocktail party for an hour without sitting down (!!!), and did half the driving to the event and back. That sounds like nothing now, right? Well, as we all know when we were obese we could no more do that simple trip than a man in the moon, right? We'd have stayed home, right? And maybe hubby would have stayed home, too, right? (Just look at hubby's NSVs about my WLS, eh?) All the things we gradually removed from our lives we're now putting back into our lives. Hubby and I are both so happy about this surgery's physical, emotional, recreational and health benefits! -
This is a great NSV Paula! You hav every right to be proud of yourself!
-
Congratulations, Paula!! It is absolutely these kinds of NSVs that mean the most. We're getting out and participating in life in ways we couldn't before--sharing experiences with the rest of the world we'd been shut out from in the past. Yay for you!! And that swimmin' hole looks like the best kind of fun. Can I visit next time?

Don't let others judge unless they walk in your shoes. I know I am off all my meds! I took 6 pills a day just to eat food and when I had the band I had my hernia repaired. My blood pressure is perfect, those pills are gone. That part is not being a failure but a NSV. Have you taken measurements and seen those numbers change? I use to wear a size 18-20 plus size jeans and now wear a 14 misses. I don't share with anyone but my husband and this site how much I weighed, how much I weigh now or how many pounds I have lost. Enjoy your weekend and don't let others bother you. You will do fine.

I go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off. I had my post-op today. I'm down 18 lbs from the day of surgery. I'm feeling great and getting my 60+ g of protein in and tons of water. I do 2oz of soft foods every 2 hours. Today my BP was 114/70 and I haven't been on BP meds since 2 days before surgery. I sort of feel like that's a huge NSV already!

While sitting at my desk this morning... I felt very uncomfortable ~ like my pants and panties were getting all tangled up. I was in such a rush this morning... I just got dressed fast and left for work. When I went to the ladies room, I realized my panties are WAY TOO big! Silly....but that felt GREAT... I need to go shopping for smaller panties tomorrow!!

Wishing I Could.....
Justine13 replied to Justine13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NSV? Never heard of that. I do love how u explained that- that is exactly what I think all the time. I saw all those things slipping away from me slowly (can't cross my legs without holding my leg with my hand and that hurts! All of those things. I'm sorry to keep repeating myself (if u have ever read any other posts of mine) but I am so counting down the days and I just pray insurance goes through. Xxx -
Fit in the bumper cars!

Howdy! I thought I was the only one having "issues" with my breasts. I was told that when you lose a significant amount of weight (50+ lbs), you will really notice a decrease in your bustline. I've lost almost 70lbs since 6/8/09 and have gone from a 44D to a 40DD. I was seriously concerned what size my breasts would be if I lost another 75lbs! :rolleyes2: I'm hoping to end up around a 36-38D and around 175lbs. I'm almost 5'10 w/ a broad build. I think I will look great at this size! Sorry, if that sounds a bit stuck on myself, but I am really working to see myself in a more positive light. PS~ I had a NSV 2 days ago. I had to get a guard for my ring. I almost threw it away while washing my hands after using the restroom at a restaurant.

Progress at 7 weeks with pics--and NSV (whoop whoop)
1gorgeousgodzilla posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm seven weeks post op and I have a looong way to go, but your pictures are an inspiration to me. i took some pictures this weekend and compared them to what I looked like only few weeks before my surgery (8/19/13). Can't believe the difference already and can't wait to see what I look like by new year's. Also flew this weekend and it was the first time in YEARS that I fit in the seat without making the armrest pop up or having to practically jam myself against the window side so that I wouldn't "ooze" over to the adjoining seat! Flying has been a huge source of anxiety for me-so grateful for my sleeve!- 15 replies
