  1. Hi Peeps, I had my Gastric bypass (RnY) on Aug 17. My stats are as follows. SW: 302 lbs Height: 169 cm. CW: 227 lbs. Total lost: 75 lbs Exercise: Walking 10km daily However, I'm feeling I'm not losing fast enough. Plus I've fallen off track with the festival season...been gorging on sweets, cakes and food. Just lost 8 pounds since November 15th. I'm worried that I'm going to ruin this. Any tips on how to lose faster as well as break this food addiction...can't seem to stop eating and feeling guilty after. Would really appreciate the help. Please help guys! Thank you.

  3. Wondering when you could drive comfortably after surgery. My surgeon says I can make the 2 hour drive for my one week follow up. That seems fast

    Belching and indegestion

Indigestion could be caused by heartburn. Belching could be heartburn, or it could be caused by eating too fast. Some people experience this when they are full. Others have runny-nose, etc.

    Belching and indegestion

I would talk to your surgery center. Sometimes belching and pain can be a sign that you're eating too fast, but I would talk to your surgery center to be sure. I know GERD is common after sleeve, but I haven't heard of it being an issue after bypass. Good luck!
  6. Originally I started at 315, got sleeved in late December 2016, made it all the way down to 195 in about 7 months or so. I had several major issues in a short amount of time, including losing my job, having a health issue with one of my children, starting my own business and then losing it, so I had a lot going on and didn't focus on keeping with the program. When I started my two-week fast at the beginning of November 2021 in preparation for revision surgery, I was about 293.
  7. I know This exact feeling but it’s true if you loose to much weight to fast you will have more loose skin. I have been at the same weight a few days but I checked my measurements and I lost inches so that alone was amazing. My a1c dropped which was exciting so remember the scale isn’t everything . Just keep doing what they said you’ll get there
  8. I’m 2 months post op and I’ve had the tightness in my chest. Boy does that hurt. Usually I get it from either eating/drinking too fast or not chewing my food enough. It takes awhile for the tightness to dissipate. I’ve had the dumps one time since surgery. I love bananas and always had them with my breakfast before surgery. I decided to eat half of a banana for a snack. Shortly afterwards I thought I was having an anxiety attack. Then the sweats, bad cramps, dizziness, nausea and diarrhea. It turned out to be from the banana I ate. I found out that bananas are loaded with sugar.

Is protein over-rated? Am I being misled?

Alright, I think it's time for an update. I caught a cold on the 28th and it's beating me up. I haven't been able to leave the house because everything makes me dry heave / gag. I can't drink anything but water and yoghurt now, can't really handle the fruit juice anymore. I developed oral thrush and was prescribed pills and a gel, I can't really do the gel because as soon as it touches my tongue I start dry heaving violently. I started feeling a little better on the 1st but things took a turn the next day. I felt some pain on the side of my throat and got it checked out, turns out it's tonsillitis. It makes sneezing and coughing a real pain now. On top of that, I developed bronchitis 2 days ago that just keeps getting worse. I can't sleep much anymore. I'm drinking 1.8L to 2.1L of liquids a day but I still wake up every 45mins to an hour because of how dry my mouth gets. Has anyone experienced or heard of someone that experienced a bad cold that led to more complications so soon after a sleeve? Genuinely worried now, been in bed for 5 days. I can walk around the house but I get short of breath pretty fast and start getting nauseous. Sent from my SM-N970U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Congrats! You are almost at onederland. I was 241.5 surgery date. Didn’t lose anything before surgery (Dec 17th) which was annoying since I wasn’t eating and I was walking 10,000 steps a day minimum. 7 days out of surgery I was down to 228 (13.5 lb loss) and then stagnated at 228 for about the next 2 weeks. Pretty sure pms and my menstrual cycle prevented me from losing more weight. I stopped obsessing over the scale because I was feeling like I wasn’t losing after the first initial loss so now I will only weigh in this coming Friday and every Friday thereafter, however I do feel the difference in my close. I can’t wait to be out of the 200’s. It hasn’t even been 3 weeks out of surgery but I want to be “skinny” already lol, but I also don’t want the extra loose skin so I need to remind myself to be patient and be positive that I am on my way to a healthier life. Also I can’t remember the last time I lost 13.5 lbs so fast so I need to see that as a win! You are on your way as well. Happy for you and that you are feeling better now and seeing results!
  11. P.S. if you're expecting to drop like 30 lbs a month, you need to adjust your expectations. Almost no one loses that much that quickly unless they're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life". Unfortunately, I think shows like that give people unrealistic ideas and expectations about weight loss surgery. Us "normal" WLS patients, with very few exceptions, just don't lose that fast. After the first month, many of us settle into about a 10-lb a month (give or take) rate...and the further out you get, the slower the loss.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Everybody will lose at different rates, depending on starting BMI, height, gender, muscle mass, etc. Some people lose really fast, and others at a steady lower rate. Keep following your plan, and make sure you are meeting the daily water goal. Water is essential to 'process' stored fat. For reference, I'm approaching month 2, and I am losing a bit over 2 lbs/week.
  13. Well, I had a different surgery (though my surgery DOES have a gastric sleeve stomach, if that counts), and likely weighed a lot more than you, but I'd lost 84 pounds at 6 months out. It sounds to me like you're doing great! 60 pounds is something to be proud of! As for the amount I eat... I can eat around a 6-8 oz now and I'm 23 months out. If I try to push I get uncomfortably full and then feel like I'm going to vomit for a few hours (I've only done this a handful of times, and all four or five times it was because I ate too fast and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I regretted it so much because I felt like crap for hours after. I have not been able to vomit at all since my surgery, even tried to make myself when I somehow got wheat into my system as I'm allergic and I didn't fancy a trip to emergency room, but couldn't vomit.)

Almost 1 week out. Dumping not sure ??

Lol so it’s just in my head . I didn’t know if I was eating my broth to fast . I’m trying to make it 30 mins . But only getting about 15

Prep recommends... I'm six weeks out

Hi fellow Diet Coke addict! I’m 2 months out and haven’t had a sip! Which is crazy because I used to think longingly about my beloved Diet Coke. I had a craving for a Diet Coke last week, but I didn’t have it. Plenty of people do drink it post op, but I sorta said “hi craving, I see you and boy do I miss your crispy zing in my mouth, but I’m good”. Will it also be that easy for me to say no? Probably not. But right now it is. The same can’t be said for food. I’ve pretty much had it all at this point, and I’ve enjoyed it, regretted it sometimes, and moved on. I eat something yummy everyday, just not a lot of it. I’m still figuring this out. Sometimes I eat too fast and just have to ride that wave and tell myself “ok remember this for next time and remember how little your stomach is now”. i focused on drinking water those first 10 days. The first 2 days were tough because of nausea. I did a play by play of the first 2 weeks on here called “post op day 2” if you’re curious about how it felt day by day. currently I mostly eat canned chicken with Mayo (like I truly love it, hahahaha), an egg in the morning, tiny sandwiches (see post, comically small sandwich), honey roasted peanuts, and dinner is just a small portion of whatever my husband is eating… sometimes it healthy, sometimes it’s not. I’m not as strict as most people on here, and that’s ok. I’m learning and living. I’m losing about 2 pounds a week now (with stalls here and there, including the 3 week stall). i have incorporated the premier protein latte flavor daily now (3 weeks post op until I was suppose to wait for caffeine). I sorta have just choke it down bit by bit, but I’m ok with it. i took omeprazole the first month as prescribed and haven’t needed it since. I brought a pair of crocs to the hospital to walk about my room, wet wipes, a medicine cup to sip water, 2 bottles of water, pads (because you’ll likely get your period out of nowhere), night time toiletries ( I didn’t shower there, was only there 2 nights), iPad, phone charger (long), ear buds, and pj pants, tank top with built in bra, and sweater (I was ridiculously cold for a month after surgery). good luck!

    Losing 2 pounds a week

yes - normal. The big drops that many of us see initially are mostly "water weight". After my first month, I was losing about 10 lbs a month, give or take. So that's about 2 lbs a week. On top of that, at your weight, you're what we call a "light weight". You're not going to lose as fast as someone who starts out at over 300 lbs.
  17. So eating 700 calories a day, one is creating a calorie deficit of 7K calories per week, if their maintenance is around 1700 cal/day. That sounds about right depending how fast your metabolism or activity. If one wants to eat more then they have to burn 500 to 1000 calories more a day instead. For me to lose 2 lb/wk, without any additional exercise, I have to eat about 700 cal/day too.
  18. Typically 24/48 hours. EKG test is literally done and over with within minutes. Takes longer to put the probes on you than the actual EKG test. as for the chest Xray i had mine done and results sent to the my doctor in less than a day. Find a place that has a fast turn around...

Please Tell Me This Gets Better

Yes, hang in there! I was throwing up for two months, and then over the course of a few days it got less and less, and then stopped. After that, I was able to start adding in new foods it has been pretty peachy ever since. Keep trying new things. For me, the first thing that worked was salty chicken noodle soup from a fast food place (minus the noodles). It gets way better!

    Carnivore Diet

Is anybody here familiar with the Carnivore Diet? It's basically a more restrictive form of Keto where you ONLY eat meat, cheese, fat, and butter. The more meat the better. The fattier the meat the better. It sounds counterintuitive to eat this type of diet, but there are several doctors out there who recommend it to help reverse diabetes and fight inflammation. While it's impossible to have zero carbs, the goal is to have as few as possible, less than 10 per day, and consume no bread, fruit, vegetables or anything other than "meat." Now, I must say that I had/have my doubts about the healthiness of this diet. That being said, my husband has been on it for 4 months and lost 35 pounds and his A1C and morning fasting glucose levels are now within normal range. He is going to continue on the diet, or as he calls it, "way of life." I did it with him for 3 months and I lost 20 pounds, but toward the end I was having a lot of diarrhea and my body couldn't handle/process all of the protein and fat without some carbs, so I switched to a new diet in mid-December. Dr. Ken Berry is the person my husband follows on YouTube who explains the science behind it and how to do it. He also said that 1/3 of people can't do it because of their particular body's need for carbs for proper digestion. Anyway, I was curious if anybody here was familiar with the Carnivore Diet or had tried it or was doing it?
  21. Yes, I'm bouncing back and refocusing. I gained some COVID weight in 2020 and 2021 and was embarrassed so I haven't been on this site, but I started doing Keto/Carnivore in September and lost all the COVID weight by Thanksgiving. The Carnivore diet was successful but was giving me chronic diarrhea so I switched in mid-December to Weight Watchers' new Personal Points program. Evidently I needed a few carbs to make things function properly. It's going well, I'm not losing weight as fast yet, but I haven't gained any. Focusing back on why I had the WLS in the first place and on my original goal weight for 2022. It's never too late to be healthy.
  22. I'll give you an example of my meal going on 5 months. 2 ounces pork, 1 ounce brown rice. I could not nor did I want any more food for the next 4 hours. It feels like stomach restriction to me versus throat tightness of the lapband. If I don't chew well enough or eat too fast or too much, I do feel sick or I get the foamies. I have never dumped so I can't speak to that experience. But the foamies is very very similar to the lapband pressure but it lasts for hours on end instead of once and you are relieved. That is my personal experience.
  23. Sounds like the foamies. Combination of pain across your chest (restriction), hacking cough, feeling like something is stuck, spitting up a lot of foamy saliva &/ or regurgitating a little food (bubbles up not a heaving vomit). Usually you feel a lot better after it occurs. A lot of us experience these symptoms at various times. I get them if I eat too fast, eat too much or eat food that is too dry & coarse. Try eating a little more slowly, hold off on having ‘just one more bite’, eat until you’ve had enough not full, keep your food moist (add gravy, sauce, etc. if needed) & avoid coarse & fibrous foods for a while & see if that helps. Multi vitamins used to make me nauseous every day too. Make sure you take them after you eat. If you take several, split up when you take them across the day. Try a different brand or different combinations . Vitamin A, C, D, E, K, Iron, calcium, some Bs can cause nausea especially if you’re doubling up (e.g. taking iron & having iron in your multi vitamin). But do speak with your surgeon &/or medical team to make sure there is nothing untoward happening. Hope you feel better soon.

    Average calories

I’ve read intermittent fasting might be the way to get by on the lower calories if I need to maintain that. To be honest I’m pretty much forcing myself to eat at the moment. I can easily see doing two meals a days and having 1000 calories.
  25. I got my date yesterday. 1/22/2022 When I met with the surgeon he told me he had never seen any go thru the process as fast as I have. Hopefully I am ready and they didn’t just approve me early? I’m total it was about 2 months of appointments.
