    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Had my 2 week follow up, everything is going great. I have to start my gall bladder medicine today and in 2 weeks my B12 injections. Everything I have had to eat has settled good, and I'm consistently drinking 50oz which he said was good. I have not been doing much activity, I figured I will start when the dreaded 3-week stall comes around and that will trick it lol, let's see if that works lol

Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?

@@theantichick you make several good points, but as one of the "vets" I don't really see the in fighting. I suppose I miss alot of the drama...and I guess don't notice this because I don't read posts about straws, soda, and the 3 week stall. It's better that way. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  3. My doctor never gave me goals or macros, beyond "eat protein first, stop when you aren't hungry anymore, don't eat on a schedule, eat only when hungry". That's been working well for me. I've lost 170lbs total, 120 of which is post surgery, and I'm still slowly losing. Most days I get 700-900 calories a day, though I don't track unless I hit a 3+ week stall. I'm not sure what to do when I get to maintenance but then again I'm not sure when I should stop losing anyway. I'm 5'7" at at 161lbs (large frame) and while I look fine in clothes, when I see myself naked with all the extra skin, I can't decide if I am still overweight, too skinny or what since I'm bony all over but also comically saggy and wrinkled. I don't like stressing out about it though so I'll just keep doing this until either my surgeon tells me to eat more or I get hungry enough to naturally go into maintenance I guess?
  4. 3 week stall just broke and I've dropped another 3kg. Wahoo! I don't mind a stall if I lose a kg for each week stalled!

    FRUSTRATED!

Also - the 3 week stall is notorious on this site - nearly everyone goes through it. Just hang in there and keep following directions from your NUT and do tor.

And to everyone who participated and lost something. I missed goal by 1 stinkin' pound. Oh well. I've been in a 3+ week stall that normally would have me off the wagon (before the sleeve on a regular diet, I would give up at the 3 week mark with no movement!) But thanks to my little sleeve, I'm just plugging away and hoping that someday soon this stall will break!!! :bored:

  9. I am 5.5 weeks out and have lost 16 lbs since surgery. I too started at a low BMI. But I also lost 10 lbs the two weeks prior on the low carb diet. Of course I would love to be lower but I am over half way to my goal and I know it's going to be slower the closer I get. I am doing cardio and yoga 6 days a week as the doctor hasn't cleared me for weights yet. If you ever want to email or chat since we're so close on dates let me know. I also know that around 3 weeks I only lost 1 lbs that week so I was pretty bummed but I came on here and read about the 3 week stall and it made me feel sooooo much better. Happy Holiday you got this!! LA

    Friday Weigh-In!

Finally over my 3 week stall of 169! Todays weight 166. Hw 220 Sw 215 DOS 10/3/12
  11. I had surgery 8/22, so almost 4 weeks out. I spent first 2 weeks loosing 9lb IVgain! Then spent 3 more days dealing with a blockage nothing by mouth and More IV fluids. Since surgery I am a total of 12.5lb down and scale has not moved in 4 days, but,.. it’s all good! I’ve been working on my head and I’m in a good place! This stall coincided with me starting more full fluids...full soups with soft veggies. So wondering if the infamous 3 week stall is really just food progression and body adjustments? Anywho, I’m embracing my stall cuz guess what...this is not a diet! My body is waiting for me to get frustrated and stop but there is no stopping, I’m playing for keeps! It is well! 😊💕

    FRUSTRATED!

@@p-ruck21 LOL some/many/MOST of us go through "these" stalls!!!!! especially what is commonly called the "3 week stall" people that stall sometimes shake things up a bit - calories, Protein, drinking but........who knows if the above helped - or your stall finally broke on its own?? doesn't really matter - stalls as well as shitttt happens too you are using/wasting a lot of energy over something you can't control you are doing wonderful protein, calories - perfect make sure you drink so much it comes out of your ears, or "somewhere" else as times goes by, and "if"you reach another stall make sure to take your measurements sometimes you will lose inches - (not weight) its great to see those inches disappear, weight will/must eventually follow pre-op & post op down 20 lbs keep up the great work good luck kathy congrats
  14. Hi Guys, I am 4 weeks post op and I have been at a 3 week stall. I AM JUST Soooooooo Over it !!! However, I did make an appointment with my nutritionist last week and she did tell me about the 3 week stall. No joke I was in tears in her office. I was thinking, I stalled at ONE WEEK. She adjusted my diet slightly an told me I should just about be at the end of it. As of today... I'm not. She told me I was doing everything right and to just keep it up and she "promised" me I would see the weight falling off soon. I don't. All I can truly vouch for is that people have told me they can see a difference. I would say they were just trying to lift my spirits and my bottom lip....BUT.... I have gone down 3 pants sizes post surgery. How I DON'T KNOW. The scale not only says that I'm in a stall, but I put on two pounds. ( Big Sigh ) . Sorry guys ( the men ).... What I was going to say is that I may have som PMS Water weight going on as well. All I know is that I've always been told the scale doesn't lie. I lost like crazy week one. My nutritionist told me that was Fluid and to keep strong and come to the support group. I was too depressed to go to the support group. Now how crazy is THAT. Yes, I really do know better. Oh well, long story cutting short. It is VERY, VERY depressing but I am just going to go with the flow like I'm told because as of now theirs not a thing more I can do. It will happen. (Another Sigh) I really hope so.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I stalled at three weeks, then all of a sudden it started to move again, when I started to increase my calories. I'm at 5 weeks, and have lost a further 7lb since the 3 week stall. Somedays I lost 2lb and then the next day I put it back on!! Frustrating but getting there - it's like a game your body plays with you. I feel much better now but still hate meal times, couple of mouth fulls and food gets stuck. i struggle with protein and water and get depressed, but today I walked into a normal size dress shop and was able to try on clothes that fitted me! Also I've bough a Fitbit which is great as a food journal, exercise tracker etc., love it. Good luck everyone we will get there. Dont let yourself get demotivated. Fight back, and think positively xx

    May Surgeries - check in!

Hi all, 1 month post surgery today, I've lost 40 lbs overall , 20 since surgery. I've been experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall, its frustrating but not unexpected with all the forums about it out there. I started riding my bike again, I don't like walking and started a at home exercise regime. Doing yard work is my best exercise! I'm trying to get more than 600 calories a day, it's tough when I'm not hungry, I've been focusing on getting protein. I don't miss my Diet Dr. Pepper habit, which i thought would be the hardest part. Food selection hasn't been too bad, I do like the ricotta bake, I add shrimp and mushrooms. Sugar free jello for snacks and tons of yogurt. I can start regular foods next week but I don't expect I'll be getting too adventurous until I get further out. . I've had a few colleagues ask me if I've lost weight as my face they see on Teams calls is much thinner, I've told a few and not ashamed by it. We booked a trip to Nassau, Bahamas next month and I look forward to not being the beached whale. Hope you all the best, John..
  17. Hi .... real talk, I'm frustrated, and more than a little scared. So yesterday was a bad day for everything but IF. But one day, whatever. But I'm scared of the big picture. I've basically in a stall for 3 weeks now. I don't want to be one of those "sky is falling" people, but, I'm scared right now about what this means. Ok, so over these 3 weeks I've had some bad days with poor choices. But on the whole I've made a lot of good choices too, and had more good days then bad. Even my bad days are nothing compared to pre WLS. My highest cal day was 1442. I only had 5 days out of 25 where I went over 1000 cals. On average over the last 25 days (to account for my 3 week stall, and then plus a few days), I averaged 554 calories. I'm scared. Is this just a set point? Have a wrecked my metabolism like in the Biggest Loser study? What is my long term quality of life if I have to eat sub 600 cals in order to even maintain? Sorry, I'm having a Monday morning pity party here.
  18. Day 10 Post Op - 219lbs (-3.4lbs Post Surgery) I slept really well again. And woke up full of energy, calm, and very happy! The pure act of chewing and eating savory food yesterday really calmed me down and made me content with my post op experience. I explained to my surgeon that although I would be content with my current liquid diet and not complain, I'd probably gladly sacrifice small rodents for the opportunity to advance to savory Stage 3-Soft Foods. She laughed and said, how do you feel about eggs? I told her that I'm pro-egg and then smiled and admitted that I'd been dreaming of a perfect 6.5 minute soft boiled egg with a spoonful of avocado floating on it! She said, go for it! Well, it felt like I won the weight loss surgery lottery!!! So this morning I fully intend to have my soft boiled egg and tablespoon of avocado! Score baby!!! I'll give a full report! Lunch will be my leftover cheesy soft scrambled egg from last night, and I think dinner will either be another soft boiled egg, or perhaps my dijon egg salad on a low carb cracker. I use low carb tortillas and cut one into squares the size of wheat thins. Then you place the squares on a paper towel and nuke at 20 second intervals, turning them onto the flip side every now and then until perfectly crispy and just beginning to brown. That's about 1 minute total in my microwave. Then store in an airtight container and use 1 or 2 for cracker subs. They're perfect for egg or chicken salad, perfectly low carb, and not too fiberous--melting in your mouth quite as easily as saltines, only without all the carbiness! I love an egg fast and even wrote a crap ton about Egg Fast Diets on my old blog. So many great egg recipes, but some of them are a bit advanced for my early Stage 3 Bariatric Diet, so I will just be content with playing by my doc's rules! Maybe I will revisit them and revise them for the low fat bariatric diet approach one day. I hope I will continue to lose and not begin the 3 week stall early on account of beginning the real food phases early! But if I do, I'm emotionally prepared and have my big girl panties standing by!

    May Surgeries - check in!

I had surgery the 24th also, I too have only lost 16 lbs. I totally agree with It being the 3 week stall. Follow the program. It will work out! ☺️
  20. Update: 4weeks Post Op - 210.6lbs (-11.8lbs from SW of 222.4lbs) Okey dokey...so 4 long weeks; 1 month post-op. What a trip. I'm coming to you from somewhat of a Negative Nancy (Disgruntled Daphne) perspective due to the dreaded 3 week stall/pox upon the land that is still with me. Sigh. I've now lost about 2.75lbs/week since surgery. No offense, but being average bites great big green ones. For those of you who are not post-op and who have not experienced a stall post-surgery, I can NOT describe the mental trauma the stall inflicts. Seriously, having a stall during regular weight loss makes you feel like gnawing off a limb just to see a drop on the scale. LOL. But having a stall after you've cut out 90% of your stomach and about 2m of intestines is EXCRUCIATING!!!! It's a mind fu*k the likes of which you've never known. It DOES feel like, this is the end of it. I will be the ONLY person on the face of the earth for whom the surgery did not work. LOL. On top of worry about that, you know, the whole calorie restriction thing that comes as part of the volume limitations in a tag-team one-two punch that adds insult to injury. Cuz I don't know about you, but I'm thinking, "FU! I've done all of this and am eating 450-500cals/day and I've lost 2.75lbs per week and nothing in over 7 days?" LOL, this is how fu*ked up my head is right now...last night, I had Bigtime Billy Badass rebellion and so I ate 1 1/8 ounces corned beef + 1 1/8 ounces corned pork + 1 1/2 oz "fried" cabbage and I felt GUILTY cuz my calories went over 550cals for the day! Let me repeat, I felt guilty for eating too much at dinner and for having the daily nuts of: 581cals; 69g protein; 29g fat; 19g carbs; 5g fiber; 14g net carbs; 3g nat occurring sugar for the day. How insane is that? ROFLMFAO!!! AND I walked for 1 hour yesterday on bursitis hips that hurt like a MOFO! *snort* *indeed* I'm whipping myself into high dudgeon and indignation. LOL. Can you tell today you should all call me Ms. Cranky McCrankypants? I don't wish for complications. But I honestly do NOT understand how every doc on The YouTube says I should be getting full on 3-4 bites (about 2Tbsp of food) at 3-4 weeks post-op and I'm like, dudes. Have you EVER had surgery? You're nuts! I can eat 1/2c - 3/4c of food COMFORTABLY! Hells I could prolly eat 3oz of dense protein right this instant. I could prolly eat 2 eggs. TWO eggs! LOL. I could tear it up!!! *le sigh* It is my fervent hope that my visit with the surgeon this week and with the RD right behind her appointment will give me the answers and tools I need to relieve me of the ginormous asshat I am currently laboring to wear. It weighs a ton, is uncomfortable, offers poor visibility and the flies are a liability. The End. kserrynotserry this couldn't have been a rainbows and unicorns thread. But this 3 week stall sucks huge green donkey dicks and if I could shoot it in the face with something I would! There. I said it. Bite me.

    St. Patrick's Day Challenge

I finally broke out of my 3 WEEK STALL! I am so happy I could dance, in fact, I did! Lol Weighed in at 270 this morning! Yay!
  22. You look amazing!!! Any tips? What have you been doing to make your weight loss awesome like it has been?I've done a lot of walking! At least 3 miles a day 5-7 days a week (depending on weather). And I've stuck with the plan, mostly Protein foods. I rarely eat any carbs (mostly a cracker to go with my cheese snack or a slice of whole grain toast for Breakfast (this is rare). I don't think I get all my protein in - that's a daily battle. I'm going to try going back to my Protein shake though and see if that helps. Loved them before surgery but afterwards I couldn't stand them. I never had a 3 week stall. I stalled one time for 10 days (due to weather and other things I didn't get to walk a lot which didn't help). But I also know I've done some things not right - occasional glass of wine - so I'm far from perfect. I honestly think I've just been very very lucky. Thanks for the advice!!!
