February Sleevers.... Check in!
mikehowelliii replied to Lulah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am doing OK ... hit a stall big time. Was losing about 1 pound per day at first then completely flattened out when I finally got some regular food. I have been very good at measuring and following Dr's orders but it simply defies logic that I could eat 700 calories in a day and not lose weight. Going on 9 days and the scale has not budged. So ... I hit that commonly referred to 3 WEEK stall. Hopefully power through it soon. I have had great energy level and exercise is becoming easier. It is great not having a nagging hunger to sabotage you during the day and night. I must say i still have quite a bit of discomfort when eating. Dr. was not concerned but it makes me very cautious about eating. My tastes and my preferences are completely different. I used to love spicy food ... terrifies me now. Used to love steak ... looks like real labor to me now. Used to love shrimp ... one got stuck at the top of my sleeve and I really dont want to even try again. so far ... fish and a low sodium chicken sausage has been going down well for me for Protein. Everything else is really rough on my sleeve. SW - 290 Pre OP W - 276 Current W - 249 -

3 weeks out...struggling!
BerryChic replied to gastricsleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 3-week stall lasted for 2 weeks. I didn't gain anything, but I didn't lose either. I just fluctuated 1-2 pounds either way. I was really challenged with getting Protein in too until I found Ensure High Protein shakes. I chill the milk chocolate flavor and it tastes like a chocolate malt, not gritty and no bad aftertaste. Best of all, each bottle has 25g protein, only 5g sugar and 210 calories as well as a lot of Vitamins and minerals. They also come in vanilla, dark chocolate and strawberry but I haven't tried those so I can't tell you how they taste. The only drawback is they are a bit pricey at $9.99/4-pack, but considering that per bottle it is only one-third the price of the Big Mac value meals I used to buy, it is ok with me. I also like that I can grab it and go, no messing with a blender, multiple ingredients and all of that. Water was really hard to get down and is still my least favorite beverage, so I mix Crystal Light with it or choose light juices or diet sodas (flattened until about 6-8 weeks post-op). Good luck! -
Billie 70. yes it is called the 3 week stall :} it is very common so we named it such. Just keep following your eating protocol. Your weight will move. Your body is adjusting to the surgery and low calorie intake ..Once your dr. releases you to exercise..my suggestion is to start..it will def help you with weight loss. Just keep on doing what u are doing. and btw the post above ..just ignore it. We don't need sarcasm on this web site. especially when we are helping newbies. Let us know if you have further questions.

January sleevers......what's your weight loss so far?
gtracygilby replied to pottergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 1/22.....sw 241 cw 211 We are almost identical. I've been going on a 3 week stall now. -
Hi Billie, My thoughts on your situation: You may well be starting the 3 week stall. Don't sweat it, just wait it out. Don't push yourself into the next food phase. Move on when it feels comfortable. Can you find any sort of puree that you like? As others suggested, only weigh weekly or even less. For sleeping, try sleeping on your back with a lot of pillow support. I use up to 6 pillows under my back and it's quite comfy now. Started this right after surgery. Also, try some Sleepy Time tea before bed. Hope you feel better.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong and I think your calories are where they need to be this early out. Not everyone loses super fast, I certainly did not. You may also be in the 3 week stall, considering the timing here, as others have mentioned. I certainly would not increase calories or carbs, but that is just my opinion, and I am not a dietician. Going super low carb now is not only a good way to lose weight but is a great way to cleanse your system of carb addictions and make it easier for you in the long run. Stick with it, follow your nut & doctor's recommendations, and tough it out. Your progress is not bad, really it isn't. I'm sure you are disappointed, but it could be a lot worse.

What the heck am I doing wrong?
Sassy Pants1 replied to solea78's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The infamous 3-week stall. It happens. Check out the link in Butterthebean's signature line. The article explains why stalls happen. I am in my 5th month. And since month two, I have spent more time stalled than not. It's weeks of no weight loss followed by spurts of loss. It's frustrating as hell. But I'm following the plan, tracking everything and waiting out my scale. It blows. -
I finally broke out of my 3 WEEK STALL! I am so happy I could dance, in fact, I did! Lol Weighed in at 270 this morning! Yay!
-
I agree with the second statement you made...I just went through a 3 week stall after dropping 35lbs my first month and it was tough..tough on my ego, tough on my reaction and tough on my surgeon...(he thought i had lost way to much to fast...he was happy that I stalled) It is true that really nothing can console us except getting the weight moving again.... I just broke mine last week, and let me tell you...it DOES feel great! Huge Congratulations on conquering yours!!! Shelby

I had my sleeve on 6 February and for the last 10 days I have been in a stall. No weight loss and no inches lost. I had read all about the 3 week stall and thought I was prepared for it. No such thing. Of course you start to think "ok, I guess I am the rare failure". We'll this morning I broke down and I have lost 4 lbs. I am now 200 lbs even. I haven't weighed this little in about 15 years. So excited. I am going to treat myself by going for a walk on the beach.

So I started at 314, now down to 274, but the scale has stopped moving completely. I've been at 274 for over a week and I'm soooo frustrated. I only weigh myself on Friday mornings.....how long does this stall last? I'm cleared to start working out again on Monday, can't wait and hoping that will help

AM I On the right track - 4 weeks post opt today
Ariella replied to alocklea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have hit that 3 week stall. I have lost 32 lbs including preop and havent lost anything in a week or so. I try and just stay calm and focus on getting my Water in (which is my biggest challenge) I have also taken a sabbatical from the scale. -
I'm sure by now , you aware of the infamous 3 week stall. Your body needs to readjust your metabolism. Stay the course and one day ( literally!) you will wake up and realize your pants won't fit and the scales drops. Don't expect huge losses , consistent weight is better for your body and skin in the long run. What tracker are you using? I use my fitness pal for good intake and a Fitbit for activity tracking. It keeps me honest with myself and shows the correlation between activity , calories and my weight loss. My guess is if you are staying "on program" you will have a very plea sent surprise next week! Good luck

If you haven't had the 3 week stall yet, it may be that as well. Search the site for 3 week stall for more info. -
Has anyone heard of the "3 week stall"? I am 3 weeks out and have stalled on my weight loss. I mentioned this on a Myfitnesspal forum and someone said that a 3 week stall is common. She also said I should be able to find lots of info online about it. I've come up with zilch. So I'm asking fellow bandsters what's the word???

34 days out and need advice/encouragement
joy3551 replied to joy3551's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am already feeling discouraged by only losing 18 lbs in the last 34 days, and I know we are not all the same, but to be going thru all of this and not lose definitely made it harder. I went thru a 3 week stall where I didn't lose anything. -
Asinger, don't give up on the sleeve. 10lbs down in a week is a lot so perhaps your body is catching up with the loss. There are many threads on this board about what is referred to as the 3 week stall - many helpful tips and thoughts on what is happening when we hit a stall, if that is what you may be experiencing. I have found this very helpful. By the way, yea you for those 10lbs!!!

Three Week Stall - How long does it last?
Lady Pink posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Jan. 22 so I’m 3.5 weeks post-op. Up until Feb. 9th, I was losing weight at a pretty consistent rate. However, since the 9th, I’ve been bouncing up and down between 3 pounds. I have heard about and understand the science behind the 3 week stall. I also understand that my body is going under major changes but I’m afraid I’m doing something wrong with my food choices. If it is just a stall, how long do they usually last? I am starting to get discouraged. I know I wasn’t getting enough Water and Protein so I’ve been very conscientious about meeting the minimums over the last week or so. I have also been experiencing light-headedness. I have emailed my NUT but I don't think I'll hear from her until Tuesday. I figured I'd ask the experts in this group to see if you had any guidance. Thanks in advance for your help. -
I lost 36 pounds the first three weeks and then went into a three week stall. During that time I did not lose any weight. I am 3 1/2 months out now and down over 70 pounds in total. So yes what you are going through is normal. I started loosing again when I was able to get in more water and protein. I also was very frustrated and thought that the surgery was not going to work. I just got on here and read about other people and that the 3 week stall was very common. Some weeks I will loose 1 pound and then another week it could be up to 5 pounds. Hope this helps.

Kiap82 replied to Juicyjae7221's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Search the forum for the 3 week stall and you'll find hundreds of posts. Stick with your plan and don't freak out. It probly more normal to have the three week stall than to not have it. You'll be fine. This too shall pass.
