Time between consult and surgery
Losing it in Katy replied to Mandemonium's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have BCBS. They gave a pre-approval with a BMI of 35 and pre-existing conditions that are directly related to being over weight - high blood pressure, just dianosed with dibeties, sleep apena, and fatty liver. Just had my psy eval and going for the endoscopy next week. Then all paperwork will be submitted to BCBS for official approval. I'm shooting for August for surgery due to work committments in July. Hopefully all will work out. Already getting excited about finally losing this weight. -
Some people like to poke the wound :(
Jennifer Hodge replied to Omfgmelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep your head up! There are always going to be negative people in this world. Do your best to just keep your distance from them. You're losing the weight for YOURSELF not for anyone else. Put yourself first and remember that the Lapband is a tool and it takes time for this tool to work. -

Time between consult and surgery
PrettyThick1 replied to Mandemonium's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It totally depends on your doctor and insurance. You can skip the 6-7 month supervision period if you have already done something like that in the past. I tried several diets and went to Quick Weight Loss and did a medically supervised diet for about 18 months - both programs involved tons of pills, they worked but as soon as I quit taking the pills my weight gradually went back up. Again, I believe because I had already tried and failed, I did not have to do the typical 6-7 months supervision. My timeline is as follows: April 11 - Initial consult (blood work, vitals, ekg, urine, respriratory) April 13 - Psych eval April 20 - Package went to BCBS April 23 - BCBS Approved May 1 - Surgery Scheduled (long waiting list, doctor's vacation) June 4 - Preop Appointment June 19 - Happy Band Day! So, had I not chosen a popular doctor who will be on an extended vacation I could have gotten my band on May 17th. I look at the delay as a blessing in disquise because it gives you the opportunity to go through the range of emotions associated with such a drastic life change. I was upset about it at first - because I expected to have the surgery a whole month before I actually will, but again I am still going through many emotional changes right now and I know that this delay is necessary. Good luck to you...you are in good company! -

Absolutely agree! This has been life saving. I was given the same kind of advice, if I stall .. go back to liquid and the weight loss will pick up again. So far, it's been steady loss but I am still working toward my goal weight. 82 pounds down, 18 more to go. We can do it! -
I really don't know anyone who has been through gastric bypass rny and I have so many questions about my pre-approval process. I have a patient advocate but I'm so nervous and fearful of not being approved. I really don't know what to do. I have a BMI of 40.5 and my 90 day diet will be up on January 23, I have Cigna health ins and they do cover bariatric with a 40 BMI and a 90 day med supervised diet. My physician does not normally do these things he refers patients to a nutrionist however I could not see a nutrionist bc they kept cancelling due to the holiday season. During my 90 days there has been no blood work no tests to see if I am diabetic or anything...just talks about my weight my excercise and mindful eating with notes each time. I have not lost any weight at all so far...and my physician is set to refer me to a surgeon. Once the surgeon sees me then they will file with my insurance ...I guess my question is has anyone had a similar experience? Did you get approved without having to run all those tests with your physician in the 90 day period? My surgeon will run tests of course, and I meet the minimum for BMI without any co-morbiditites... But I am afraid that I will not be approved bc I have not seen a nutrionist yet, just going to the Dr and talking about my weight loss attempts, with no actual weight loss. I wish I knew someone who had the surgery so I could ask things...but I don't. This support group is really my only outlet for this..

Top 5 Things NOT to Say to a WLS Patient!
tigerbelle replied to Greeknugget's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the worst is when they try to tell you anything about someone else who had "that surgery"...also, I've gotten sensitive to when anyone (even close friends and family) ask me how much weight I have lost so far -
So I'm following all the directions and walking at least 8,000 steps a day and barely losing any weight! Did anyone go through this and end up losing a good amount of weight after surgery? I'm scared to fail Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Activities After Lapband Surgery?
Scooby_Who replied to TornadoKnight Matt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon basically said whenever I feel good enough. The fitness consult girl said start a regimine after 4 weeks (walking + weights). The nutritrionist yesterday said walking/biking now is okay, but no horseback riding (I own a horse and asked specifically). So, I haven't been told anything consistently. So far I've just done some walking at a moderate pace. -
Abdominal Binder & Band to Gastric Bypass
AuriP replied to weightlossdiva1234's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I havent had the revision yet but I used the binder for a few weeks, I had to cut it down when I lost some weight. It helped me keep my muscles tight and brace myself while getting up. I had a 4 year old at the time and she stayed with me the whole time I was at home recovering. I think you will do fine by yourself, I would recommend telling someone you might need help during the day and have their number on hand. Since you will be alone make sure you get all your fluids and protein in. Good luck! -

20 pounds in a month is hardly a stall. Thats awesome! Make sure you have a scale that measures ounces. Sometimes a few ounces makes a difference. Weigh ur self same time everyday same amount of clothes. (I always weight in the morning with no clothes on). Always take Vitamins everyday. Dont focus so much on working out right away do small walks and little things. I learned only eat when im hungry and I dont worry about eating all the meals I just listen to my body and eat when im hungry. Watch out on drinking too many calories. Its really easy to do! It goes down easy lol. Its hard. The hardest part is going out to eat with family. I want to eat and keep eating my body doesnt let me. Sitting there at first felt awkward. I just want to eat like everyone else. Im getting use to it now and have a few learning lessons of eating too much and ending up in the bathroom throwing up for 20 mins. NOT FUN! At the end its worth it and I would do it again in a minute. Its crazy to know ill lose the weight and guess what....it wont come back!! Good luck in ur journey -

I'm not judging at all. How were you able to get surgery w a low BMI? I am also 5'5 but had a 37 BMI w high blood pressure. We're you self pay? I am super happy for you. 135-145 is my goal weight -
I noticed in a few other thread that there are quite a few twin moms on here. I have b/g twins and they are 3yr old. I was just wondering how you are all doing with your bands? My tummy never tightened back up after having my twins, so I'm a little nervous as to losing weight, will I just "deflate" more? Do you have any other kids? I have a 7,6,5,and twin 3's.

How Do You Explain Rapid Weight Loss, If You're Not Telling Coworkers About Wls
Shells_Almost_There replied to LSCLatina's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have told almost no one about my surgery - by the advice of the psych doctor (who had gastric bypass himself). What's annoying is the very few people who know will monitor and comment on what I eat which drives me nuts. I'm so thankful he advised me not to make my private decision too public - it has worked out pretty well for me. I was on a strict diet pre-op to qualify for surgery and people at work probably noticed my change in eating habits. Since surgery (I was on "vacation" ) I have slowly lost another 30 pounds and no one has said a word - my weight loss has been slow and natural. Maybe 3 people have noticed some slimming down and been nice about it. So, if anyone asks, I tell them I am "working with my doctor and a nutritionist and I'm on a high Protein, low carb diet." That's all they need to know and it's 100% true. No one has questioned me about it. -
Being told all my life to cut down on calories in order to lose weight makes it so hard to process that now I have to eat more calories to lose weight. Maybe they should offer a lobotomy to go with the sleeve. I find that I’m drinking water all day and because it takes me so long to eat, It feels like I’m also eating all day. So I get nervous that I’m eating to much. I’m keeping a food journal so I can see what I’m eating. I know everyone is different but what are your eating schedules if any. Here is mine: 8:30 - soft boiled egg, 1/4 c cream of wheat ( 1/2 hour to eat then I have my coffe about 1/2 after) 10:30 - protein shake (1hour to drink) 1:00 - 2oz Deli Turkey, 1tbsp cooked veggies 3:00 - protein shake (right when I come back from the gym) 5:00 - 2 oz meat, 1/4 c cooked veggies (depends on what meat and veggie I make for dinner but I generally eat the same thing) 7:30/8:00 - homemade oatmeal protein muffin (no flour-recipe found on Pinterest) all the while I’m not drinking water until 1/2 after I eat but I do drink up until I eat. Phew!

For the Ladies - TOM weight gain?
LeahG replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely gain weight the week before the TOM...and it seems to be holding on to my body as long as it can! lol. I haven't lost any weight since about a week and a half out of surgery and even gained .4 last week...which I'm attributing to the Water weight. I'm hoping as soon as I start the weight will begin dropping again, but we'll see! I think the surgery definitely messed with my system too because I was supposed to start 4 days ago. I'd love to hear from people who are a bit further out than us to know what we should expect! -
I used my weight watchers for my Dr. supervised diet. I simply had my PCP write a letter stating that she recomends WW, langth of time on WW, weight loss and regain. Then I asked WW to e-mail me all of my on line daily food records and sent them all in. Was approved in a heart beat. United Health Care. Caresa!
-
WW irritates the bejebbers out of me! I e-mailed them yesterday to try to get my lifetime membership number so I could get some records (I can't find my membership books) and they were like "We cannot provide these kinds of records for you, you will have to show your physician a cancelled check or your membership book" and gave me info on how to obtain a new lifetime membership number - in other words, how to rejoin. I always had trouble sticking to their plan because I simply cannot eat fruit and I was told that it was required. And the people who own the franchise here are soooo self-righteous they make me want to scream . I did much better on ediets, but I still gained all but 5 lbs of it back. That's still better than WW, where I always gained it all back and then some :faint:
