I was really super tired the first two weeks. Then I could feel myself slowly getting stronger. Everyone is different, but take it easy as you can and let your body heal. Sorry hubby is annoyed. Did you expect to heal faster? If there is a support group near you, perhaps you could get hubby to attend one with you? There he will meet other people who've had the surgery and now have more energy than ever before. And they can say how long it took them to get back to full-time normal life. If that's not an option, then maybe just a sit down where you explain you simply can't do it all right now and you guys work out what you can do that would be most helpful. Like maybe he really hates changing diapers, but is OK making dinner? Only you know your situation at home. If he's just being Jerky, then maybe you need to push back. One thing to keep telling yourself is that is does get better, and in a fairly rapid time frame! Lynda

I had my surgery on June 10th and they stopped my birth control pill altogether (I'm getting old!). Anyway, I had a pseudo period that week, but have not had one since. I will be 7 weeks out tomorrow and should have had one by now. Not really looking forward to it though because the whole reason I went on the pill to begin with was that I got such horrible cramps that I would physically get sick.

I have found I need to track and weigh everyday... but I have tried to take that "obsessed" mind part out. I just do it like brushing my teeth. When I don't do it, I gain. I am finally at goal, (well, working on losing a little bounce range) and how I act is mostly the same as I did when I was still in the losing phase. I use the 5:2 and luckily I don't get too cranky, wouldn't like that! It has gotten easier with time. Its a good maintenance tool too, you might even get away with one day a week for that(6:1). (not me so far, but after the bounce pounds are gone... 3 or 4 I may go to one day a week and see if I can keep the weight off) Just do what your doing, its not a race, you will get there! I was 5 pounds from goal when i started gaining, and it took me almost a year to get back there and then to goal. I'm still learning how to do this right!

I started tanning three weeks post op. But i am covering my incisions cause if they are not completely healed you will get some funky discoloration that will not go away! -
I am almost five weeks post surgery. Today I worked out for an hour. I have been able to do that in years. I love weight lifting and being fit and I can finally do it again. I have rheumatoioid arthritis and diabetes. Before the surgery I was constantly sick, I had cellulitis 3 times last year. I have worked out 4 days so far this week and I'm sleeping less. I have my life back. I feel like I was in prison before and I have now been released. This is the real me. I may not get down to my goal weight as I love lifting heavy weights. But I have already gotten out of this surgery what I wanted, improved health and energy.

If you look at my profile pics...you will see I do not have all the loose skin many talk about....not sure of the exact reason but some of the things I do claim to help with skin/body tone.... Aerobic EXERCISE...5 days a week (including running).....ALWAYS get my daily required WATER and PROTEIN....and 30 minutes in a SAUNA or STEAM ROOM 5 days a week followed by an ice plunge.....(like the swedes jumping in snow) Not saying that is the answer...but something worked...and still is working for me.... I have not lost any weight in over a year...and yet I continue to drop in clothing sizes....go figure....

I hope it goes ok for you after 8 fills. I have had 4 or 5 (or 6!!, I forget!) fills and have just gotten some restriction. However, I am not losing any weight yet. Dunno what's the matter. I finally have the portion size controled, doing ok with my water, getting the protein I need and fiber is ok. Eating protein first. Haven't been able to excerise, which I enjoy at this time of the year. No matter how bad Washington DC is, they have wonderful springs and Indian summers. I fractured an ankle and tore a couple of tendons (missed a step off my front deck at 4:30am, too dark to see. I finally got rid of the crutches but need the splint and sometimes an ace bandage. Somedays you just can't seem to catch that golden ring. Good thing I'm usually an upbeat person, otherwise, I think I could have stayed in bed for the past few weeks! Good luck! :)Laura

ongoing weight loss after 24 months?
SuperMom replied to nerval's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just me....but if I ate that many carbs I would not loose weight either. Before you go and let them do that other surgery.....try eliminating the carbs and see what happens. Are you getting 80 grams of Protein in a day? I am just asking because I know if I fill up on the carbs (rice, bread, pasta) there is no way I get the protein in. The protein is what keeps you feeling full longer (or for me anyway). A day's menu for me goes something like this: Breakfast 2 poached eggs Snack String cheese lunch Baked chicken breast and green Beans Snack Nutts (pecans walnuts peanuts and NOT the honey coated kind dinner Baked fish and some kind of veggie (i avoid corn and carrots) like field peas, green peas Late night - if I have not gotten enough protein in I add a Protein Bar or unjury chicken broth (20 grams protein) So far the weight is coming off 3-4 lbs a week for me. Just thought you might want some diet to compare to. Good luck in whatever you decide. -
Congratulations Laura....I too am only 5'......and last week I weighed in at 149.6.....YOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't weighed myself yet this week because I was away for 2 days at a hotel for Canadian Thanksgiving. Some of the places that we ended up at to eat did not have the greatest choices on their menus. Even though I don't eat much, I wasn't exactly eating the right stuff either....and I had the odd Scotch, or two....or three or four. Carol

There is no "track." It's whatever works for you. I would say 10 pounds a month is great for the first few months after surgery, and 15 would be fantastic for me. After that I expect to slow way down. I look at my band as a safety net. I know from previous experience that I can key into a diet and lose weight, but then several months in I hit a plateau, hold it for a couple of years, then gain everything back. My band will stop me from doing that. I'm not looking for it to make me lose 10 lb a month indefinitely, and I can stick to a low calorie way of life for a while without it. Just a note off topic, somewhat: I went in for my second fill this week, and the doctor had trouble getting through to my port. He asked me, "Have you lost too much weight?" When I asked him what he meant, he said that with rapid weight loss the scar tissue from my incision can shift and cover the port, making it difficult to get the needle through. After bending that needle all around, he gave up and said he had to get a bigger needle. I had visions of a stake and hammer! He was able to access the port with the thicker needle, but I was pretty sore the day afterwards. Anyone else have the problem?

That "full" feeling and another question
bearbandit replied to julieg40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am just over 3 months post op. I was like you measuring all my food and stopping at that point regardless. It all depends on what food I eat. For example lets say I eat some salmon. Salmon is a lot more dense thus I get full on 4 oz. If you eat some steamed veggies they are less dense and you can eat more. So how much food depends on how dense it is. The feeling of full is really hard to find or understand. Remember your brain takes twenty minutes to realize your full. You are looking for that physical feeling. Hince thats why we have bands because we eat till we feel full. At that point we ate way too much. I have 5.75 cc's now and I have to be very careful on how fast I eat. or I can get stuck, which hurts. I still measure out my food volume. your only two months out so your still healing. Measure out your food and stop. Time yourself between each meal. if you start to get really hungry at around 2 hours after then you need a fill. I eat every three hours regardless. As for drinking water, (only after about 45 mins after you eat), I drink that stuff down like there is no tomorrow. It wont extend your pouch as it will pass right on through. When you get good restriction and you just ate a very dense meal and didn't wait long enough after you ate to drink water....ouch! that really hurts. P.S. I also had my 3 month labs done. all was good but Vitamin D was low. apparently this is very common. You need D to absorb calcium. Just a heads up. Good luck! Be diligent and dedicate yourself to exercise and good nutrition.:sneaky: -
Just banded and really suffering!
u2band replied to whitemountainmagic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, I am new to this site. I had my lapband surgery on January 3, 2011 and I'm so happy. Yes, I was in pain with the gas. Plus I had hiatal hernia surgery (swelling in the esophagus above the stomach). So, I had twice the pain. I was discharged with liquid tylenol with codeine. I don't use it much. But, only when I have gas pain which is starting back up. Anyone, have the same thing? To the newbie person it's going to be painful for at least 2 to 3 weeks. I still have some pain in my side and in my chest. Good luck to you!!! -
August 14th - day 1 - not too terribly bad. This was the beginning of a new life for me. I could feel it, I could see it. I came home on Sunday from a trip to Vermont. When I got on the scale it read 249 lbs. I knew I had eaten badly in VT but I didn't think it was that bad. For dinner on Sunday, I had my last meal of shrimp fried rice and egg drop soup....it was very good. I took a couple of Sacra sagrada to help me go to the bathroom in the morning. I weighed in on Monday the 14th at 247 lbs. I have to be down to 237 according to Dr. Greenes pre-op instructions and at this rate, I'm going in the wrong direction. Dani is with her dad this week so I don't have to cook which makes it easier to not be around food. I was feeling a little weird so I went to bed early.

I was banded on July 21st. and have lost 18lbs the first week, I am so glad that I have taken this step in my life.:clap2: Starting weight 350 BMI 54

That's funny you should ask that question at this time! I started out at 275. I have lost 54 pounds, and at 221 I am looking pretty good. ( I think! LOL). Although I still have a lot to lose. I just went to my three month check up yesterday and asked my surgeon about how much I should weigh, because, I , like you, was looking at the BMI chart, in which I should weigh 135. That, for me, is still about 95 pounds away. Compared to what I look like now, a 95 pound loss would make me look almost dead. And my dr. agreed. He said that if I were to weigh 135, I would look like a runway model. (And I don't think he meant that as a compliment! LOL) He said it was better to go with body fat percent. GamerGirl gave me some good comparison pics last week, and she also figured out how many more pounds I should lose to get there, and she was right on target with what my surgeon wanted!! So, in answer to your question, you look great, and really, listen to your dr. Your health will thank you for it!

I got the flu. Yup, my kids are learning to share, and share they did! Couldnt keep anything down for 12 hours, and now I cannot hardly even keep Water down! My Fill doctor is 1.5 hours away, and I leave tomorrow on a long trip, so seeing him is not an option this week(end). Are there any methods out there that might help soothe the swelling I'm sure I have around my band? Has anyone else had this problem? I have an 8CC band, with 6cc in it. BTW, I'm new here! I was banded on 4/26/10, and have lost 100 pounds and counting!

Well you should be walking day one after surgery. Everyday a little further. But as for hard core running or walking I'm have my two week follow up the 14th and I will discuss when I should start working up to 1 miles a day. As far as sex you should do it when you are comfortable. I wanted to do it since day3 or 4 but I guess that does not cordinate with my wife and her once every 3 month schedule we seem to be on...

My first visit to Lap Band Solutions
Idgett replied to Idgett's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear about your experience. I didn't stick with them after all. They know with the first call to the insurance company whether there are exclusions for WLS in your plan. unfortunately a lot of these WLS centers are just into it for the money. Had I stuck with them I may have had a lap band by now BUT it would not have lasted. Four years ago I had surgery to repair a hiatal hernia; I had heard that it could cause problems,so to dig out the truth I went to a gastro doctor that had no affiliation with lap band to make sure I was a candidate. It can be done, BUT I was at much more risk for failure, and more importantly complications. Lap Band Solutions had said " sure your a candidate, the previous surgery is no problem" I believe Lap Band Solutions would have let me continue to have appointments or may have even done the surgery knowing I would later have complications that could lead to additional surgery or to have a revision. In any case they did not have the chance. I decided to get away from the cattle call clinics and search out a private Dr. that does WLS. I am very happy with my choice and will soon be reaping the success of a gastric sleeve. Out of all the WLS out there, I choose the sleeve, and all three of my doctors (primary, gastric, & WL surgeon) agree it is the best surgery for me. As for Lap Band Solutions.... I believe their practices to be deceptive, and maybe even risky. I have directed a letter to the AMA an the TX medical board telling them of my experience. I hope others like yourself will do the same. -
Losing too fast?

I think you are fine. Its mostly Fluid. I lost 32 in 3 weeks. -
I saw my PCP on Friday too, and I will admit I was nervous walking in. But he was very receptive to the idea. I'm 5'4 and about 234 (40 BMI). He gave me my referral to see a bariatric surgeon to get the ball rolling. (I had already attended a seminar.) Apparently, the surgeon will determine who and what I need further referrals for (testing, psych eval, etc), and then my PCP has to write the referrals. Though they are in completely separate locations and practices, they will work as a team to make this happen. :rolleyes2: One requirement of my insurance company is that there is a supervised diet period of at least 6 consecutive months. I believe they're going to allow me to submit my records from Jenny Craig over the last 2 years (not all the time, not with significant success) to cover that, so at least I won't have that 6 month delay. I have no idea how long this will take to get approved, but I can't even get initial consultation the surgeon for another 2 weeks! :tt1: Clearly, patience is not my strong suit!!!

Had to laugh about the barbaric surgeon, too! Anyway, very similar thing happened to me. I irritated by band while on vacation last week. I knew I needed to go back to liquids only for at least 24 hours,, but didn't. I ended up in horrible pain in the ER. Had 3 cc's removed. No more pain, but the beast has been unleashed and I have no restriction and am hungry all the time. I have learned my lesson: I will not abuse my band again!!

Only 5 mos out......but I might can answer some of your questions! I researched the Water issue post-op throughout the last few weeks. I have a few concerns. Since the stomach is only at 20% and the amount of liquid or food is from 2 to 4% at any given serving. How does one maintain a healthy level of water throughout the day? The only thing I could come up with is that I need to sip water all throughout the day. Maybe ice chips? Suggestions.....
