I saw the nutritionist today. She said that I’m doing everything the way that I should. She recommended that I only drink one protein shake a day and make sure I add some carbs to my meals. She reassured me that this phase is the prep phase for my soon to be new way of living. She said that some people don’t lose weight before they go on the pre-op liquid diet. However, when I start that diet I will lose some pounds. All in all I feel better. She has not seen any weight gain due to protein brands, but think that my lack of a loss was due to too much protein. Now I am focused on eating 2 good nutritious meals, my 1 protein shake and listening to my body. I was trying to walk 5 days a week, but it’s hard when you work overnight. So I’ll do 2 days of walking at home. When I’m at the hospital walk up the stairs, take the long way to the units… anything to get mg heart beating and steps in. last thing… I thank you all for being there. This forum has been great.

As @catwoman7 said it’s likely a stall. They happen & you may experience a couple if them. They will pass. Your body just needs time to come to terms with the changes - pretty stressful to it as well as you. If you’re following your plan & your doctor is happy you’re golden. It’s not a race. The weight is not going to magically disappear quickly. Because you had a higher starting weight you likely lost more quickly to begin but as your weight decreases, your weight loss rate will slow. We all experience this slow down as we get closer to our goal simply because our caloric intake is getting close to the amount our body needs to function. Congrats on your weight loss so far.

it's probably the infamous three-week stall - we call it that because it's USUALLY the third week, but it can really happen any time within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. If you do a search on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding....). Suffice it to say, a huge majority of us experience it. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks, but you're not the first person I"ve read about where it's lasted for four. As long as you're following your program to a "T", it'll break and you'll be on your way again. Just stay off your scale for a few days if you need to..

Hello I had the gastric sleeve surgery 2 weeks ago and I am still feeling pain in the surgery area( like a quick aching pain when I bend down or move a certain way fast, can anybody tell me if they felt that and how long should I feel this pain thanks

My post-op pain was minimal and controlled completely with OTC Tylenol. I had no nausea 😊. I was more tired than usual for a couple of weeks. A couple of months later I noticed less pain in the knees and more stamina! Good luck!

khamm, the time between consult, testing, and surgery differs widely amongst surgery centers and insurance plans. It could be weeks or a few months. I’d ask the bariatric surgery center where you’re having it.

Sleeve Surgery 10/27/21

I had a fair amount of pain for the first three or four days home from the hospital. I took one narcotic pill each day for three days, but otherwise tylenol was fine. The pain was only noticeable when I got up from lying down (the worst!), when I sat on the edge of my couch, or when walking (my stomach jiggled and that hurt my incisions). By the end of the first week, I had almost no pain and was able to walk around the block easily. At 2 weeks out, I was walking two miles at my usual slow pace. It was very hard to drink water the first few days, but it got better fast. I had to take the tiniest sips and wait between sips. Taking pills was really hard the first week too. I was so hungry the first two weeks when I was on liquids and even now that I am starting solids, it's hard to know how much to eat. Still learning I guess! -
I've never been on an all inclusive vacation but in the past I've always treated all of my vacations like "all you can eat" lol. I can't wait to stop doing that. I've been to 33? 35? countries and I've spent way too much of the trips focused on the food. It's too early now to go on a trip (still lifting restrictions) but I'll be traveling for work in 2.5 weeks and then we're going to Key West in Feb. Plus a lot of work trips in between, and holiday travel.

Hi! doing well. My surgery is 10/4 and I'm also having hernia repair at the same time. I did pre-op with on 9/20, at my surgeon's office. I had my PAT Lab work on 9/27 and my COVID test is 10/1. I'm on the 2nd week of my 2 week, pre-op, liver shrinking diet. I also received all my post-op meds. During my pre-op, they decided to have me see a pulmonologist which was yesterday, for a last minute clearance!

I called the surgery center Jan 28, 2021 and had surgery Sep 13, 2021. It felt like it took forever. I got my surgery date exactly six weeks before surgery. For the first six months I was preparing for surgery, I worked on living like I would live after surgery - high protein and low carb diet, lots of walking, etc. I lost 50 lbs. Then I went and threw a number of food funerals as my weight got low enough that I thought I might not qualify for surgery anymore. Then I did the two week pre-op diet. Now I'm 2.5 weeks post-op and I've eaten 310 calories today and I am ready to burst! You'll get there. Try not to gain too much weight - that's just more you'll have to lose afterwards.

I am currently 1/2 way through my first all- inclusive vacation in Punta Cana since surgery. We go every year as we have a membership at a resort. It s a challenge for sure. I am walking an hour every morning at sunrise so I get my 10K steps in before breakfast. I am having some mixed drinks and this is the first week I have gone since surgery in February not measuring food. I am curious to see if I lose, maintain or gain weight this week. I was on a long stall prior to vacation so maybe it will just shake up my system back into weight loss. It is wonderful being here 109 lbs lighter than last year at this time. Anyone else take an all inclusive vacation after surgery?

Sleeve Surgery 10/27/21

It is surprisingly easy in my experience. I was mostly tired. I was never in any pain except when getting up off the bed and scooting back on the bed. Walking was painless which I did pretty quickly after surgery. The days following I had no pain at all but I did have a Fentanyl patch for 3 days. I was back to work in a week and have had no complications at all since. -
I have done everything required for surgery and now just passed the nicotine testing. . Whats next? Is there more testing or am I weeks out yet? Just received my surgery date and I'm excited and nervous. After losing my husband 4yrs ago I put on over 150lbs and actually ended up in the hospital & almost lost my life because of it. Promised my daughter I'd do whatever it took to not scare her like that again, so here I am 4 weeks out. I changed my whole way of eating but I have medical issues that prevent me from working out so I dropped the water weight but now struggling to drop more. Can I ask what it's like after the surgery to those who have had it? That is my biggest apprehension, I so want to be done with blood pressure diabetic and other meds so I can't wait to drop this weight so I can have my knee replacement and hernia surgery. Been living in a fog too long and I so want this for a better, healthier life.

Need lap band removed revising to Gastric Bypass
EmKat replied to MelissaWisconsin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi. I have had a lap band for 11 and half years. I lost around 100 lbs with it but it turned me into a bulimic because I could eat whatever I wanted and just "regurgitate" it back up. It was a bad cycle to be in, but it kept my weight off. Finally last year I went to my bariatric surgeon and confessed up. He did some tests and realized my esophagus was "floppy" and dilated. He did a complete unfill of my band at the time. I was able to maintain my original weight loss on the keto diet, but after 10 months I fell off the keto wagon and the weight QUICKLY returned. I gained around 50 lbs in 4 months!! I went back to my surgeon a year later and we have decided to remove my lap band and switch to the gastric bypass. He is not a fan of the lap band surgery anymore and is not recommending them to his patients. I have my surgery next week on October 6th. I am nervous because I am 52 now and postmenopausal. Im definitely not as active as I was when I first had my lap band surgery almost 12 years ago. How many people on this forum have had the lap band to bypass? How was their weight loss compared to the first surgery? What differences do you notice with restriction? Anyone having the surgery soon? or recently? Thanks in advance! -
September Surgery Buddies!!

For me it took just a few days to get rid of the gas pain in my shoulder, but when I would sip too big a sip, I had similar pain, and I had a lot of passing gas for the first two weeks. At first this hurt. -
I love to listen to podcasts while I walk. My pace is about 20 min per mile; today was the first day I was actually faster than BEFORE surgery. (2.5 weeks out). I just did a mile though today because I had to get back to pretending to work LOL. I haven't gotten up to 5 miles yet. Two is mostly what I do. I have a lovely path across the street that goes along the river in a loop. I have a treadmill too in case it's too hot or cold or rainy. Congrats on your success so far! It's very impressive. I'm hoping I get over the difficulties I've had being hungry all the time. It doesn't feel like GERD or head hunger, but I guess it could be.

Minimal to no weight loss?
MshellL87 replied to MshellL87's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hi.. I just had to do one day of liquid diet before procedure. I went in around 150. As of today (3 weeks out) I weigh 148. Yesterday I was 147, the day before 148.5. So not much of anything is happening on the scale. I have been between 151-145 for a year and desperately want to be at my goal weight of 125. (Which is heathy for my height of 5 ft 3 in) I was initially worried I would lose weight too quickly or somehow get below my goal weight. I no longer worry about that. Just worry that the procedure will not do much for me. -
Surgery date! 10/19
lizonaplane replied to Rozzjozz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get some protein shakes, broth soups, and other liquids you're permitted to eat/drink for the first week after surgery because you will not be able to lift much and these are heavy to get at the store. I ate a lot of Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt because it is high protein. I ate the flavors that didn't have "fruit bits" in them (vanilla, toasted coconut vanilla, caramel, boston creme, banana...). I also strained Tom Yum and Hot and Sour soups I bought from restaurants nearby and this was amazing, because I didn't care for canned broth at all (yes, I could have made my own broth, but I need more flavor than broth provides). Start walking at least 10-15 minutes a few times a day, even just a slow pace. I was told it helps with recovery. Maybe buy some water flavor packets (stuff like crystal light, although I personally don't like that brand). Make sure it doesn't have caffeine, as some flavors do. We aren't permitted caffeine 2 weeks before to 4 weeks after surgery. Do all your laundry, cleaning, and dishes before your surgery, as this is hard to do right after surgery, as bending is hard. Get all the prescriptions you need. Taking pills after surgery is harder, but can be done. -
What is your height, pre surgery weight and your 6 month post op weight?
Crick replied to Chantrella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Clothing? Oh no, not for at-home weigh ins. Same and time of the week, yes, but the only thing I am wearing is a smile. 🤪 -
Your surgery center should provide you with a list of vitamins they like. Mine did. Bariatric vitamins are available over the counter, so no need for a prescription. I ordered mine from Amazon, but you can get them here on Bariatric Pal. I was told to take the chewables for the first month, but they made me gag and got stuck in my teeth (I tried two brands) so I switched to the capsules after the first two weeks.

Recovery & house sitting
lizonaplane replied to Happymouse13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found even getting up from bed or walking around my apartment to be quite painful for about 4-5 days. By a week out I was good. I have 4-6 weeks restriction on lifting more than 10 lbs, so lifting a large bag of dog food might be off limits, though there would be no issue if you just had to scoop food out of it. The other thing to consider is whether the dogs will climb/jump/walk on your abdomen. That would probably be excruciating.
