    Missing something from my diet.

i dont see how i can though. food isnt sitting well and neither are protein shakes and i get so tired at work which slows me down. Honestly, i would be surprised if i dropped alot this week because of how i feel. i guess i thought i would feel more energy but i am feeling less.

1 week into my pre-op diet.

    From the album: Photo Journal

  3. Including my 1 week pre-op liquid diet, I've only lost 13 lbs. I just thought it would be more. I know Im not getting in enough liquids, but that seems to be getting easier every day. Just wondering what others are seeing who have sleeved around the same time (8/13)?
  4. If I was your husband the 85% divorse rate after you loose the weight would be more of a concern, or not? 60% is the statistic used to describe how much excess weight is lost by the average person that under goes this surgery. It has nothing to do with remission back to your current weight. Have you husband actually read the statistics. In my case, at 2 weeks out I was off all medications. At 7 weeks my knees no longer hurt when walking up or down stairs. The fatality rate is close to having a tooth pulled at .01%. Complications are low if you go to a good surgeon. My surgeon has had one leak and no deaths. He has been doing bariatric surgery for over 10 years at about 500 surgeries in the last year alone. This surgery is all about you. Dont let others interfer if its your decision.
  5. This is very normal. I chose once a week as my official weigh in - every monday. I kept a log of weights and progress. I might have sometimes weighed other days, but Monday was my official weight of record..haha. Some people do it monthly.
  6. I had stalls when I gained weight so I expect them when I lose. I remember times when I was eating horribly and thinking, "wow, I haven't even gained", then wham 10 pound gain.

Post Surgery But No Weight Loss

I was curious about how much fluid I would gain in the hospital so I weighted right before heading to the hospital and then immediately after getting home. Up 7 pounds! All IV fluids. You need to be hydrated, and they do a darn good job of it! It carries you over while you can't get enough in. I'm only 8 days out from surgery and down 16 pounds since starting the pre-op diet. I have just set my goals for the upcoming year (broken up by month) and plan to weigh myself only once a week. Hope I can stick to my plan, summer '13 will be a blast if I come close to what I think are reasonable goals!

    Preop diet weight loss

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have lost a significant amount of weight on the pre op liquid diet? I had my lapband surgery several years ago so I don't remember if I did or not. I have recently began following the pre op liquid diet with my friend because she is getting the sleeve in a couple weeks, plus it seems to be helping with my horrible acid reflux. If it could get me back on track and help jump start my weight loss, that would be terrific! Thanks!

    Time off from work

Probably 6 weeks Min. But definately discuss with Dr.
  11. I went to my first support group meeting today (I'm getting banded on the 27th) and it was great. This is a group that is just getting started and today was the first meeting so there were only 6 people there, but I feel more comfortable with a small group anyway. We are hoping the group will grow. Anyway, it was so encouraging. Three of the people there looked great - thin! Two others were still losing. There was a time when I was considering rny, had the surgery scheduled in fact. I went to an rny support group meeting and it scared the heck out of me. The lady next to me was 11 months post-op and said she was only beginning to feel OK. Many of the people looked unhealthy, with poor color and sagging skin. And nobody seemed too happy. It was a major factor in my deciding against rny. So I'm so glad my bandster support group was nothing like that! I think it will be a big help in my weight loss journey! Nancy
  12. I was fine until I got into anesthesiology, then I started crying uncontrollably. I wasn't worried about the surgery, I was realizing that after this, I have NO EXCUSES anymore, that I won't be the lovable fat girl, I won't hide behind joking about my weight, etc, and that it what made me sad. The surgery is nothing, yes, it is painful, but after all the pre-op testing, counceling, etc, we are all ready...so don't worry!! I am one week out and I feel great! Melanie Date of Surgery 2/29/09

    Starting My Journey

I found out today that I have been approved by insurance e and I'm officially scheduled for surgery. Now just all the appts and more waiting. UGH the waiting never seems to end. Oh well march 25th will be here before you know it. Not really looking forward to a 2 week liquid diet beforehand though.

    How long before driving?

2 weeks per my dr, but 1.5 weeks for me so I could get to work
  17. I agree, the first thing I picked up yesterday after my 2 week post op appt and being put on purees for 1 week, was Wendy's chili, got to work and ran it in the blender. Still have 2 more meals left in the small size that I got, feel full after a few bits yummmmmmmmmm
  18. had my sleep study last night and am pretty much DONE with pre-op stuff! I don't sleep well away from home so I was geared up and they could tell. the bed/room was very comfy and a great tv but I didn't fall asleep for almost an hour compared to just barely hitting the pillow at home! I DID hit REM sleep for a few hours so at least I feel rested. The rule that is followed by the Doc at this sleep center is an AVERAGE of 5 apneas per hour qualifies you for CPAP. I averaged 2.3 an hour EXCEPT when in REM and then I had 15 per hour. But, the respiratory therapist who was with me during the test told me this morning that this is a textbook "I need to lose weight" type of sleep apnea, and not true long-term apnea. He said that it is a coin toss whether I need the CPAP or not. In any case, the Neuro/Sleep Doc will read it and I see my surgeon next week and we will decide. Hopefully they will let me waive it and I can keep moving forward. All in all it wasn't SO bad but i'm hopeful I won't have to do it again!!
  19. For several years prior to surgery, I would snore so loud that it would keep my wife awake at night. When I went through my second round of pre-op testing, they scheduled me to see a doctor that specializes in sleep apnea. After examining me, he believed that I did have this condition and wished for me to undergo sleep testing. I declined. I reasoned with him that since I am about to undergo bariatric surgery and since surgery can correct this problem, I thought is was not money well spent. He signed off on my surgery. About 2 weeks after surgery, my snoring went away. I sleep so quietly at night that it frightens my wife. She wakes up in the middle of the night and can't hear me breathing and thinks I am dead. I am 11 months post-op now and this snoring problem has been in remission during this whole time.

Some foods have strange tastes and smells

My sense of smell was extremely heightened for about 4 weeks after surgery and most made me nauseous. I compared it to first being pregnant. All returned to normal after about a month, but my tastes changed from before surgery. Sent from my XT1096 using the BariatricPal App

How long did it take for you to be able to lay on your stomach?

I'm not sure about stomach surgery but after I had a lung biopsy I was lying on my side about a week after, maybe leave it a week or 2 just to be sure, your stomach actually needs 6 weeks to recover from any surgery so it would be best to wait that amount of time.

    Anyone Having Headaches?

I am 4 days out and I kind of have headaches too. I am in the Houston area, and I think it is related to the weather. My doc allowed me to resume using Flonase. Do you have those problems in San Antonio? It's a little drier there, but nonetheless there have been clouds moving in and out all week.

Not as much restriction as expected!

Hello I am a revision as well. Often as having a revision, we compare restriction with the band as I did. Having our type of surgery as I did in the same surgery (revision) having scar tissue plays a part in that. The Sleeve is a sterner master and I was worried when I could eat more after a month. Liquids do go down quicker and each food type has the ability to have different type of restriction. Liquids= no restriction/ Soft food= moderate restriction/ Solid foods depending on what kind= restriction. I am 2 months out and have been a slow loser with the 3 week stall and for my age and pre-menopause, taking BP pills ALL have played a part in my weight lost. Not to forget your "bougie" size, the measuring device used to measure your new stomach size. ALL of these factors play a part. Drink plenty of Water, Protein a must and watch slider foods that will not support your weight lost. The sleeve works you just have to work with it and not compare yourself with others. Remember this is no the band , thank God and we have a new stomach that we have to get use to. I have restriction and I weight out my food and STOP willfully when I feel the full signal, Over eating with the sleeve is out of bounds as it is nothing like the band, as stated this is sterner master and will not allow you to get away with eating around it. Work the Sleeve it is truly a great tool! I remember being angry as I was 2 months out and only 15lb loss. Well since then I have lost 4lbs and it just came off.
  25. I've been banded since 2007 and I only recently started visiting this site... Stupid on my part. I learned quite a few things here. I wish I had been on here when I first started out. While reading different posts to help me with my pouch dialation problems 2 weeks ago I noticed many people who have had their bands removed. In the past I had port infection due to a tummy tuck, esophogeal hernia( which they originally thought was a band erosion) it was only when I was under anethstisia did my doctor see the problem and when I woke up I was totally ecstatic because I thought I would be waking up to having my band removed.it wasn't and I was grateful. I read so many people saying how it was the worst mistake by getting banded, but I feel so lucky. It's worked so well and the problems I had were my likely self induced, you know not chewing properly, the dumb tummy tuck which wasn't necessary. Those problems could have been avoided. The thought of being without my band it frightening. This last problem of pouch dialation was a strong reality check. I have to remember how to eat and chew properly. Just because so many years have past I must not become complacent . I was lucky to find so much info on these post at bariatric pal. I grateful for the posts I read and for future knowledge I can obtain just by reading other people's stories. I just wish I read more stories of people who have had great success with their band. I know I did and I love my band and can't image myself without it.
