    stuck at 50 pounds down

There are many, many plans about with different recommendations & expectations. The best advice is stick to your plan unless it’s not working then develop a new plan with your medical team. We have different needs. Our bodies absorb, processes & burns nutrients/calories differently so one plan does not fit all. Discovering what works for you is important not just while losing but also into the future when maintaining. I wasn’t given a calorie goal just protein (60g) & portion size recommendations (1/4 - 1/3 cup slowly increasing as I was able). I was advised low carb but not given any amount to meet or stay below. I did occasional calories checks out of my own curiosity. By goal I was eating just under a cup & less than 900 calories a day but now (28 months) I eat just under recommended serving size of most foods. I maintain my weight eating about 1200/1300 calories. I don’t exercise. I was encouraged to add snacks a couple of months out & still snack (nutrient dense foods) about 4 times a day to get my protein & essential nutrients in. I remember at my first appointment with my surgeon, he drew a picture of a plate & marked a section as protein & another as vegetables & said that’s how much you’ll be eating in maintenance. It stuck with me & he was right. Scales & measuring cups are vital tools during the weight loss stage. It’s so easy to under or over estimate portions when just eyeballing as you seemed to have discovered. Don’t worry we’ve all been caught by this at some time. I don’t weigh or measure frequently anymore - just random checks & when I introduce something new to my diet. And I study the nutrition panels very carefully of any food stuff I buy pre prepared though I generally make a lot of what I eat from scratch. Hopefully your nutritionalist will be of help. Ask that she sit down with you & go through a week or two of what you’re eating. Ask what is missing from your diet, what you could reduce or drop from your diet, what you need to add & alternative foods you could include. Make sure she understands your lifestyle as well not like the one who gave my pescatarians a diet full of meat as the protein source! Good luck.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

So here’s some before and afters. The before is 2 weeks before surgery the after is about a week ago. Miinimal loose skin. I’m down 87 lbs since surgery. (Pics are screen grabs from my TT because I haven’t done many before and after pics)

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Started at 278 and I’m down to 190. Stalling a bit between 194-190 I need to drink more water and do better with protein. Has anyone started drinking? If so what’s your experience been?
  4. Sorry for the TMI I'm one week out from surgery, haven't had any problems until today. I got very dehydrated yesterday but I was back on track until this afternoon, when I started suffering the worst constipation I've ever had. I've been drinking water and taken a stool softener & Miralax but nothing seems to be moving. I'm about to break out the nuclear option - magnesium citrate. My main worry is that I'm too afraid to take my protein shake. Usually I have 2 shakes, a sf jello, a broth, 64 oz of water & a small meal of meat and veggies. I don't feel well and I don't want to add to the problem. Any advice? (It's too late to call my doc)

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I am also losing slow but I am okay with that too. It is just so weird when I try on clothes and can fit in to a smaller size but the scale hasn’t moved in weeks.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I was taking them as well but stopped. I am so bad about taking stuff. Im taking the gummies for hair and also the multi vitamin by them. I find it much easier to take gummies instead of the chews. My weight loss is slow I’m down around 60lbs. Seems like I have stalls but I still lose inches. I’m ok with it coming off slowly. I’m worried about loose skin. So far so good.

    VSG 1st month

I had lost 36 lbs at my 6-week checkup. Another woman who had her sleeve done the same day had also lost 36 at 6 weeks. That may be a guideline for you. Liquid and soft foods, concentrate on protein, drinking before and after by 30 min, remembering your stomach can only handle up to 2/4 cup, throwing up, that all makes the weight go. 8. So am one week post op and when I drink water in a gulp I feel it going down my esophagus and I feel pain till it finally hits my stomach,is that normal ? And will it ever go away ?

Your surgery was May. You',re at 4 months. It's 1/4 cup for the first three months. Then progress another 1/4 at six months to give you 1/2. You have two more months to go for that. 3l4 at 9 months. 4/4 at 1 year and the rest of your life. You should only be eating 1/4 cup every 2-3 hours and no more! My stomach barely fit 1/4 and I three up if I went over. I went to a class and had material telling me what to eat at so many weeks. You can find that online. My doctor told me, but you should find online that you start at 1/4 cup. Sent from my moto g fast using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Lunch was gardien sweet and sour porkless bites with mixed veggies and brown rice. Total 307 calories. Ate all of it (and made 2 others like it for lunches later this week) Dinner is a very tasty yet super filling burrito bowl from HotHead- Double steak on lettuce with banana peppers, pineapple, fajita veggies, cholula, sweet teriyaki sauce, and pico. Total calories for the whole thing is 397 (46g protein!) so I’m guessing (and tracked) 139 calories. I might go back to it later before bed as a snack…. Or eat a mini Godiva roasted almond dark chocolate bar (found them at Walmart)….

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hi. I’m about 5 months out. I’ve lost 53 pounds. I’m kinda short so the weight looks like a huge difference on my body type. I have weeks that stall and don’t see any weight loss. So far I have been able to eat just about everything ( in small amounts) with no reactions. I do wish I was loosing weight at a faster pace but Slow progress is still progress.
  12. I Had my 2 week post op appointment today and got clearance for soft food phase! I had a cheese stick mid afternoon and then for dinner had a scrambled egg with some cheese. The cheese took me half an hour to eat. I scrambled 3 eggs but I got in about 4 bites of eggs before I was full but I tolerated both with no problems!! Guess I’ll have to cut down my quantities! I’m so excited, and shocked at how little it takes to be full!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I count myself as one of the lucky ones too. No major issues, a few minor ones...occasionally heartburn - which goes away within minutes when I take medicine, early on, I did get sick a few times, but haven't done that since early weeks of solid food. Still cannot eat scrambled eggs, but can tolerate chicken now. I have had some hair loss, but my hair was so thick before, that seems like a blessing...as long as it stops in the next couple of months. I still wear the vitamin patch because the large pills are hard to swallow and upset my stomach. But that was the case before surgery, so not sure that will ever change. Most days, I am not hungry. Have to make myself eat for fuel but that has been liberating. The whole idea that food is fuel and not mindless consumption. My better half has been very supportive and has even came along for the ride of clean eating...and lost 25lbs himself. He's tall and honestly did not need to lose weight, but he says he feels better. I have 15lbs to goal, but honestly, if I didn't lose another pound, I would be happy. I truly wish everyone the best outcome and life long health and happiness! Exudos194, how are you doing?? 😊

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

So far so good for me! I have to count myself very lucky. 5 mos and 1 week out and I am down 82lbs. I feel good. I’ve only been nauseous twice (once was frosting and once was lunch meat that I ate too fast and got stuck) but I have never thrown up, never had diarrhea. I can eat almost anything in small amounts (sometimes not so small so I try to be careful). Most of the time I am able to forget I ever had surgery just getting used to eating slower and less and drinking more. The other where I was losing a ton of hair is gone and over all everything is awesome. 47lbs to goal.

Not sure where you got 900 per day for eternitiy - We're all different and will have different requirements. Yes, there are standards, but I would question ANY physician or nutritionist who made that sort of statement. Looking at your surgery date - Is this your first stall? If so, it could really be as simple as your body levelling out and you'll pick back up shortly.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I am in the same boat with returning to work. My surgeon only gives two weeks off. My employer requires 100% fit for duty. I worry about that. Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using BariatricPal mobile app

    My story

Sounds like the three-week stall got caught in traffic. Just stay with your program! It WILL come off. And if you have doubts, call your NUT!

    Irregular periods

Yes this is normal, I had a very similar experience. I got my first period then a small break then another one that lasted for what felt like forever. It was more like light bleeding for about 2 weeks. By the time my next cycle came around things leveled out and have been back to normal since. I would give it another cycle or two to even out then reach out to your surgeon or gyno if you feel you are excessively bleeding.

    Horrible knee pain post op

I had knee pain but it was like 2-3 weeks after. Right knee only and at night. I sleep with my knee on a pillow or I put a pillow between my knees. I’m six weeks out now and no more knee pain.

    I can't eat

I'm 5 weeks out, and I don't have much desire to eat. Sometimes I get an empty feeling that might be hunger (I'm not sure) but unlike the olden days I can just ignore it and move on. I have no cravings and very little interest in food. Like others have said, I find this liberating! It's so nice to not obsess about food. I'm sure this won't last, so I am taking advantage of it as long as it does. I'd rather feel like this than be hungry all the time. Even though I am not interested in food or eating, I still eat to a schedule and track all my intake, focusing on water and protein goals. The structure is helpful for me. Sometimes, I set reminders for myself using the Echo/Alexa, reminding myself to drink (after the 30 min post food wait), reminding myself to eat a planned snack or meal, etc. It is helpful when my body doesn't signal me.
  22. PART 3: @Crick got me all into a cookie baking mood last week, so voila: Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies! I don't like raisins, so I had I didn't really eat one save for a small nibble to taste for sweetness. Fam devoured them in one night though...will be baking another batch this afternoon (maybe a few WITHOUT raisins so I can sample a whole one?) I'm guessing my taste bite was like 45 calories???? Well that's what I logged it as in MFP regardless.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I will try the warm water. I do drink the sugar free propel and crystal lite throughout the day. I don't seem to like water right now, so I don't drink enough of it. I don't drink the protein shakes much either, but I did buy some Genepro unflavored protein powder and mix it in things to make sure I get my protein in everyday. I should probably not get on the scale everyday when I am in a stall! Hopefully things will get moving again in both areas lol.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Hi Tiffany, I am about 4 weeks out. I had a hernia repair as well. My weight loss has stalled as well. I have noticed that it usually takes about 2 days then it goes down about 1 pound. Warm water is good for constipation. It works almost right away. I have been having a hard time finding things to eat. I can’t stand the smell and taste of the protein shakes or anything else. Been drinking zero Powerade.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

I am 6 weeks out and have only slowly added soft foods. I started with vegetable soup for vegetables and they sat well and were great! I am a bit nervous about adding a lot of solid foods too fast. I did have a hernia repaired at the time of surgery so I was told to wait a little longer. I am stalled on the scale as well and not sure if I should add a bit of food. I walk about an 4 miles a day so maybe I should slow down on that. Any suggestions that helped with a stall? I am still dealing with the constipation issue and have found a tea that seems to help every few days.
