It's a perfectly valid question for you to ask. If your surgeon uses a size that's different from what you hoped for, you can ask for their reasons. I too was hoping for a smaller size, but when I asked my surgeon about it she explained why she would use a 40 or 42 for me - a little larger than she usually uses (I think in the 34-38 range) because I was a revision from band and she was concerned about scar tissue. I agreed that avoiding complications was more important than a smaller sleeve - and she reassured me that the differences were really very small, and that I'd be able to be perfectly successful - and at 98 pounds down so far I feel good about it! I think I can eat more than some, but I'm good with that, and am still doing well.

Was your band removal and revision surgery done at the same time?
bewell replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am just about 4 weeks out from revision lap band to sleeve. Lapband was in 2006 and complications at every turn. My revision took 3 hours. 1.5 for lap band removal and 1.5 for sleeve. My lap band was encased in scar tissue and my port was hard to get out. Two incisions are still a little sore where they had to pull the band and port out and one incision they removed my stomach. Nothing that I need pain meds for, just notice the soreness still. I was on pain meds for 5 days and happy to have them. My Doc prefers to do the revision in one surgery if at all possible because he feels it is easier on the patient. Two surgeries involve all the pre-op diets, anesthesia twice, recovery twice, etc. For me, starting liquids and eating mushy foods after surgery was very different than with the lap band. With the band I knew immediately if I had too much or didn't chew well enough. My experience with the sleeve is if I start to feel nauseated it's probably too late. With the sleeve they say to stop eating AS SOON AS YOU FEEL FULL which is right on. A few times thinking it was like a lap-band experience, I ate a few too many bites and/or ate too fast and vomited immediately. (which we want to avoid as much as possible so as not to challenge the new stomach and staple line) It took me too long to figure this out and I vomited about 6 times over 10 days. Once just on Water and a pill but I expect I drank too much water in one gulp. Also on a Protein drink that I took too big of swallow. So being a slow learner, now for me, It is sip, wait. Sip, wait. Take a small sip of pureed drink, wait a few minutes. Take a small baby spoon bite of pureed food and wait. Try another, then wait. The lap-band let me know immediately that I had goofed up. The sleeve is very different for me. With the sleeve I literally can only eat two tablespoons of mushed cottage cheese and it can take 15 minutes to eat that. Even a Protein Drink. With the band a protein drink would go right thru. This is not my experience with the sleeve. I'm told that this very sensitive time will pass and it will get easier. My doc keeps reminding me that I'm healing for 3 months or more and to be careful, go slow. It takes a while for the new stomach to settle down. It is different for each person but swelling can continue for a while, especially if we vomit. After vomiting I had go back on liquids because they were concerned I had a leak due to the vomiting. Like the band after surgery we have to do all we can NOT to vomit. I'm just hoping I didn't cause a leak but it seems OK now after a few days of slowing down, I haven't vomited. As for energy, it is about the same as for the lap-band. I'm slowly getting back to normal. What I am eating is very limited. Protein drinks, mushed cottage cheese/beans, Soups without the chunks, watery oatmeal, nibble on cheese. Everything tastes weird. I loved plain water before, now it tastes terrible. I have to mix some fruit juice in it. Before surgery I could drink crystal light, now it tastes very bad. Things change. Just my thoughts on the diff between the lap-band experience and the sleeve. Hope you won't make my mistakes. -
I was sleeved on 2/4. I live in Massachusetts. My surgery was revision surgery. Had lapband removed after 6 years and now have the sleeve.

Rewards for pounds lost
Inizio replied to band2bypass15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I revised from lapband to RNY and am only 1 month post-op. Buying clothes along the way to make sure I have properly fitting clothes will be my focus. Savers is my friend! -
7 incisions for lapband revision to RNY. The one where my port was taken out is a lot bigger. The others are all small, even the one where my drain was.

I'm going to revise the handbook and see what I can find. -
how long is it taking you to drink
LSF replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I refused the pain meds post op. Didn't want the nausea that it caused when I had my band surgery. Now with the revision - it's much easier getting my liquids in and the pain is bearable. -
Was your band removal and revision surgery done at the same time?
LSF replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So far so good. The revision was done on Wednesday. I refused the pain meds after the surgery because I didn't want the nausea and the pain was bearable. I went home the next day (Thursday). On Thursday night, it was really weird, my arms started to break out in itchy hives. I put cream on and that seemed to help. Last night I took some Benydryl. I stayed on my couch all day Friday and that's when I started the protein shakes and then I really started to feel better. I drink Premier Protein because if the 30grams. Today(sat) I finally took a shower. In between shakes, I constantly sip water -
I was interested to know how you decided to have the sleeve revision after lapband. Did the band fail in some way? I am almost 6 years post lapband. Thanks and hope you continue on your healthy journey.

How soon after revision surgery can you start swallowing pills??

I had that when I got the lapband surgery 6 years ago. I just had the revision to sleeve. The nurse had us take deep breaths and said it will help with the gas pains & it did

Thinking about Gastric sleeve revision
Marcella young posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I Had My Gastric Sleeve Done IN June Of 2013 I STARTED Out At 327 An Got Down To 244 AS Of March 2014. I was hitting many obstacles an had a injury at work which made it to were i couldn't work out. I had many stalls an no longer loose weight an actually started gaining an now up to 271. After talking to my husband i sometimes think i never got the sleeve done the reason being is comparing everything to his. I never had the dye test done an wasn't loosing weight good. I was pretty much starving myself an was hungry all the time an even now when i eat i can eat a normal meal like someone that hasn't had it done. I emailed the doctors office that performed it because i now want some type of proof it was done. If it was done i wanna no why he left my sleeve big enough for me to not be able to get great weight loss like others an why did i not have the dye test done or they never called me for follow ups. Has anyone had anything simular like this happen to them an reconsidering a revision? -
Unfilled/possible revision?
Kitt3000 replied to Pinkygirl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just remember your body, your decision. If you don't trust your doc 100%, then you have to own your decision- not "let" him rush you. Tell him "I want to wait "x" amount of time, then if it's not better I will consider revision options. -
Who is a “Success Story”? I’ll tell you…
LilMissDiva Irene posted a magazine article in Post-Op Support
Who is a “Success Story”? I’ll tell you… I am. You are. He is over there… and she is too. Everyone reading this article is a success. Being a success has nothing to do with how much weight you have lost. It isn’t determined by your tape measure. It’s not proclaimed by everyone on your buddy list. You are a success as long as you wake up trying and go to bed planning to fight tomorrow. I just realized it at this very moment. I mean, I’ve always known… but it never really hit me in my gut (no pun intended) until right now. What I have been searching for, for so long – ten years now to be exact. That is when I really started getting into the health and fitness community. It was when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and I was scared enough to change my life. I’d recently lost an Uncle when I was diagnosed, due to complications (many tormenting and painful years of it) of this horrible disease also known as “The Silent Killer”. And from there I was set to change my life, forever. Fast Forward many years to 2011. That was the height of my health and fitness and going into 2012 until I blew out my knees. I created a thread here called “Bariatric Surgery Do’s and Don’ts”. In case you have not seen this thread yet, here’s the link: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/194624-bariatric-surgery-dos-and-donts/ Well, little did I know at the time of creating that thread that today it would become the Top Most Liked Post here at BariatricPal.com – now you might be wondering what the heck that thread has to do with this magazine article? Well, here it is: what you do today will someday have a profound effect toward your distant future. Have you heard of the “Butterfly Effect”? Well it’s exactly the same idea. Tomorrow you may not even notice the results of yesterday’s decision make, but one of these days – maybe next week, maybe not until 5 years from now but you will realize the finality of your decision. That’s not all though, back in 2007 I finally realized that I needed help. I started to research Weight Loss Surgery on Google. Well those searches lead me here. I mean, back then it was called LapBandTalk. My, my… has it grown since then! Since that time I have had 2 revision surgeries due to complications but I know there is absolutely no way I wouldn’t have gotten through all of it without the support of this website. I am forever grateful to the Site Owner, he (Alex) has been a true blessing for me. In that time I have become somewhat of a Bariatric Community leader, both here and abroad. It’s special to me because making that tiny Google Search was the first flutter of my wings to now. Even being a Global Moderator here and writing my very own magazine articles. I am so thankful for the opportunity to express myself the way I believe I am meant to. Even though I am fluttering all over sharing my story, I always know where my home is. Life is not all wonderful however; you have to be just as prepared for the results of your bad decisions too. If you’re choosing to binge for several days your result will show up on your next weigh-in. Just like if you chose not to make your house payment for a few months, you can scar your credit report for maybe an entire decade of your life... it’s the same idea. So again, if you woke up this morning with the idea that you are going to at least try… then you are a success. Your results may take time to catch up to this truth (you just need to have faith and practice patience) but it will come about. -

I know, im trying to be really good! im just scared that the ct scan will not show my band in good shape and the doctor will want to open me up right away! i feel rushed and bothered that he wont let my band fix itself...hes not giving me time here! he seems so obssessed with doing a revision surgery He said 5% chance that bands fix themselves...well yah cuz he doesnt give them time to! -
Because I had revision surgery, I had terrible nausea when the band was out in so I refused pain meds while in the hospital. The pain was bearable and I wasn't as nauseous since I didn't take any meds. Now that I'm home, I'm taking liquid tylenol

Post-op Day 1...NEED help
LSF replied to NewLife4Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 4th- 2 days ago. My surgeon had me only drink water 1st day post op and start the protein drinks on day 2 which is today. I just got my first shake down. His instructions are to drink a shake over an hour, then the next hour water etc... I have to follow this for the next week and after day 8- to start adding soft/mushy foods. This surgery was also revision surgery for me -
Band to sleeve failure HELP PLEASE
LSF replied to Susan.davis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the revision 2 days ago and am worried that this will happen to me also. The only saving grace I gave is the nutritionist gave me a plan before the surgery and to do it as well once I'm back to solid foods. For what my out of pocket expense this is, I'm praying that this will help me in this journey -
Anyone have PCOS?
banded2004 replied to BeautyInProgress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi - I was diagnosed with PCOS in my mid thirties. I take Spironolactone to control cysts on my face and hair growth in unwanted places and male patterned baldness. It's worked! I am 3 weeks post op from Band Removal after 10 years. I have gained back 35 lbs in a year since my band stopped working. My Bariatric team has recommended the sleeve for me. Most of those ghrelin hunger hormones get removed in this surgery which curbs appetite. I am slowly jumping through all the hoops and log wait list, researching PCOS food plans and learning. It's hard, lonely and frustrating and I'm glad there are others here. I'm 59 and PCOS has been a life long curse. Thanks to everyone who has shared. I have found a lot of great info on Facebook Failed Lap Bands. Lots of experience there in revisions to other surgeries. ???? -
I had a Gi done a three weeks after he U filled me. It came back normal. Was happy because he thought my pouch was dialated rather large and thought I might have to do revision but it healed back fine

This is my first post. I have had the band for 11 years with much of the same issues of GERD, gastritis, hiatal hernia and vomiting. Finally I am done with it after getting a second opinion from another bariatric surgeon who does not think highly of the band. After completing all the work to get a revision, hopefully to a bypass, Blue Cross Blue Shield has denied me for "insufficient medical or surgical complications". Evidently only infection, erosion or slippage will count. Needless to say I am very disappointed. I am 64 years old, retired and considering Mexico and very disappointed in US insurance. Any advice is welcome.

How long did it take everyone for their band to get back to normal from a slip? My doc the wants to do a revision to fix a possible slip, he doesn't believe on band healing and fixing itself

Question about the restriction feeling
CowgirlJane replied to laurashelby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a band to sleeve revision so I suspect that my "sensations" are not quite the same... so take my remarks with a grain of salt... but my thought is that if you feel it in your esphogus you have had 1-2 too many bites. I strongly advocate eating by measuring spoon/cup early on, but as you start to eat more intuitively, strive for "no longer hungry" but prior to feeling that overly restricted feeling. One of the ways to "cheat" the sleeve is to get used to that feeling of food backed up in your esophogus. As your sleeve matures over time your capacity will grow. If your capacity grows and you are also habitually eating to "overflow" I think that could create problems in maintenance. Again - I am sensitive to this as a revisionista because that is one of the reasons band to sleeve revisions overall dont do as well. i became very familiar wiht "full esophogus" when i had the band and it is a very bad habit. -
considering band removal - stuck on whether to do sleeve
aviva1979 replied to aviva1979's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
so glad your band removal went smoothly! I've read many ppl who have the band removal and sleeve revision done in the same surgery - may I ask what influenced you having them done separately? Also - is insurance covering?
