    Avg monthly weight loss?

One time I found this calculator online where you could put in your starting weight, what surgery you were having, height, etc and it would calculate your estimated monthly weight loss. I've tried to find it again and have been unsuccessful. If anyone knows where this is, could you post the link? I'll look again and if i find it, I'll attach it. I'm only 6 weeks out so I don't really have enough data to share.

How Long will this go on?!?

I'm exactly six months today. Mine started at month 5 too. It's distressing but it's just hair...it grows back. I will go 2-3 days a week between shampoos. I don't blow dry, straighten or curl or color. I use no hair products.
  3. I've had my band for over a year now. Most days I throw-up after eating, and it's usually at least 3 times a day. However, I have recently been seeing small traces of blood in my throw-up. Has anyone else experienced this? What is the reason for this happening, and is it of serious concern? Thank you, Viki
  4. I am a little more than 3 months post-op and I just got blood work back from the doc. She recommends taking 2000iu of Vitamin D3 daily. What is this and is it going to help me not feel tired all the time?

    My lost weekend...

The Sugar is a demon! Once you have some all you think about for days and days is MORE MORE MORE!!! LOL I say get that stuff out of the house if it's still there and maybe push VERY low carbs for a few days (<20) until the cravings die down. It's hard!! I know that's true. I get really physically ill when eating junk food, so thankfully I have that working for me. Though I know I *can* eat a LOT of popcorn. I have to only eat it no more than when I'm at the movies. Here's the good thing about breaking up the monotony though, when you do get back on program your body responds beautifully by having huge drops once you get yourself back into ketosis. Much <3!!!
  6. Thanks for sharing I'm supposed to have my first fill in a few weeks and I'm nervous. I've been losing weight and haven't had issues with hunger... at least not physical hunger!

    My lost weekend...

It happens, you'll lose it all back soon. I think I'm in my first stall, trying to get back to basics. I might even just do Protein shakes for a couple days. I now allow myself one "cheat" day. I dont' eat a lot but I"ll eat whatever I want on that one day. and be good the rest of the week. I've actually done pretty well on that kind of diet in the past. Gotta mix it up!

2Weeks1Day Out What Can I Eat

My surgeon and NUT said to stay away from tomato soup for two weeks or so. But you can get great flavor from pureeing any other soups (stay away from those with noodles though). I ate a lot of pureed chili (you can add a little chicken broth to it if it is too thick) and black bean soup (I just mixed a can of black beans, a tiny bit of cumin and oregano, onion powder, and chicken broth - heat it all up good, puree and it was so tasty!). I bought a Magic Bullet at Costco for $29 for pureeing, but a blender works well too!
  9. Struggling. Hungry. If I could do this easily, I wouldn't need this procedure. Sigh. [emoji30]

    Examples of Soft Foods

I had RNY gastric bypass 33 months ago. The directions that I received following surgery were: 0-4 weeks post-op Full liquids Weeks 5-8 post-op pureed Foods Weeks 9 and beyond Solid Foods When I hit the solid stage I found that some foods, especially meats were hard to eat by themselves. They sat heavy in my stomach for a long time. But I found that if I mixed the meats into chili or Soups, they went down a lot easier. I referred to these foods as soft foods. So if you bite into a steak soon and find that it is hard on your stomach, then you are consuming a hard food. Soft foods are as much about food preparation than the ingredients. If you want to consume chicken breast, then put it on a low boil for a few hours and add a bouillon cube. Cook it until it comes apart gently with a fork. It is now soft enough to eat. Soft foods are also produced by mixing food groups together. Make a hamburger and try to eat it. Hard food. But take the same hamburger meat and use it in chili, it is now soft on your stomach.

    Gastric bypass 3 weeks

Zumba wow 3 weeks out. My dr wants me to just walk walk slowly. Sigh. I'm ready to fet back to the gym w weights and elliptical. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
  12. My hair started falling out (ALOT) around the 3 month mark, and I think it probably stopped at the 7 month mark (about the time that I stopped losing weight on purpose). I lost quite a bit. Cut my hair super short pixie when it started to try to minimize the visible scalp look. Started to notice the sprouting of little itty bitty chicken hairs around month 10. I'm 1.5 years post op now, and I've got a TON of these chicken hairs all over my head, and they are about 3-4 -ish inches long now and still stick up when I don't style my hair, so it looks pretty funny. But I'll take em. Once they grow long enough to lay flat I will probably look close to normal again...though I dunno if I want to grow it back to the length it was before...we'll see.

    Diet Coke

You can drink it after your incision is healed -- make sure you get clearance from your doctor -- but you may find that you don't want to. I know that may be incomprehensible -- I was a HUGE coke-head (heheh), drinking 8-12 cans of Diet Coke per day -- but it's true. You'll find that the acidity no longer treats you well (you'll be working hard enough to keep your own natural stomach acid in check without pouring battery acid down your gullet on a regular basis). Also, the carbonation means that you simply can't drink it fast; I tried one a few weeks back and I had to literally take one tiny (and I mean TINY) sip, then burp, burp, burp, wait, wait, wait, and then another tiny sip. In the end, it was too much work and discomfort for too little payoff. I started noticing that it didn't taste that great. Since I had to drink it so slowly, it no longer seemed refreshing or thirst-quenching. Ultimately I've decided that Water is my best choice if I'm thirsty, and if I need that caffeine boost coffee (now that I can have it again) is my best friend. I went from being a huge Diet Coke fiend who'd literally tried to quit a hundred times, to someone who just doesn't care for it anymore, almost overnight.
  14. hey all, I am close to 3 months pre op I have lost about 23 lb since surgery and 44 total since September. The last three weeks I have been having "major" hair loss. Thank you. peace, spiffy in Seattle:crying: This is my worried face!

How Long will this go on?!?

I started with super thick head of hair. I'm not really sure about the Protein aspect cause I think I've had decent protein, but my hair started falling out about month 3-4 (I am now almost 6 months out). It was very distressing because my kids said , "omg mom, your hair!" I've taken Biotin since before surgery and it does cause new growth but doesn't keep the hair from falling out, in my opinion. Having said that, I bought Neocell Super Collagen + C , which has biotin too, at Sam's Club and started taking it a couple weeks ago . I am not sure if it's coincidence but I think my hair loss has slowed significantly. Plus, I just cut it pretty short which makes it easier to take care of, especially since I am working out so much. I think it's just temporary and certainly worth it....in my opinion. Oh I have 60-90 grams of protein a day and use Wen.

    Preop Liquid Diet Victory!

I'm so very proud to say I'm on day 3 of the preop diet and I've stuck to it religiously. I haven't had 1 slip up. I even went as far as going to a crawfish boil at my best friend's house which was full of delicious foods and alcohol. I patiently drank my protein shakes and chicken broth. Sipped on water all night and still had a blast. My friends have been so very supportive and loving. I will admit I did bust into tears briefly from feeling a little overwhelmed. But the important thing is I'm sticking with it! I've found strength and determination I didn't know were there. I have to admit I'm feeling a bit like Wonder Woman. Lol
  17. Happened to me this week. I've been less regular than usual and I was premenstrual.
  18. You and have a similiar profile - fairly high starting BMI, and a lot to lose. I would love to get down to 160, that is my personal goal. I totally agree with everything that everybody said, but I also have another thought. I started this journey at 308 - if I only get to 200# and can actually maintain that, it has been totally worth it even if 160# alludes me. Even now, I am more physically capable and my health is improving. I simply refuse to fall into that "all or nothing" thinking that only if I hit a certain magical number on a scale will I be a "success". That thinking has not served me well over the years and I am not playing this time. I have set for myself a series of goals because for my brain, that works better and is less overwhelming then having to think about losing 148 pounds (from my starting weight). For me, that number is just... awful.... it carries some emotional baggage I guess that would bring me down if I spent to much time thinking about it. I am viewing the fact that I am on the journey and making the most of it as my success for right now. I was discouraged because the scale is moving slow right now, but I saw a friend yesterday that hasn't seen me in 2 weeks and she was shocked - she said I looked thinner in two weeks even though the scale only gave me a couple of pounds. I keep celebrating the small victories rather then being crushed by the possibility of failure or the enormity of the task.

    % of excess weight lost

I am 16 1/2 weeks out and have lost 81% of my excess weight. I don't believe the stats either.

    Out of work?

Better ask your doctor. If you have to pick up small children, I would say four to six weeks.
  21. I can eat 3 oz. of dense protein (chicken, beef) + an ounce or two of veggies. I can eat 4 oz of fish + an ounce or two of veggies. 3 oz. of dense protein is actually enough to make me quite satisfied though. However, carb-based foods and sweets are deadly. I have almost no restriction with them. So for the most part I stay away.
  22. My hubby and I are bikers, Bikers for Christ members to be exact. I had surgery 3/19/12 I've list 27 lbs so far, I have no restriction yet, just cut out carbs. Anywho, my man told me today that he could tell I'm losing weight because my stomach used to be against his back and now he doesn't feel it. WooHoo, thats even more awesome being as its summertime and it feels so good to have some air between us. C:
  23. @FluffyChix Yes! Check this out (yes, I know these folks are older than us, LOL, but STILL) While 65 may represent an upper age limit for changes to heart function, consistent exercise can offer other health payoffs to older adults. A study just published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine investigated the walking habits of 139,000 Americans who were nearly 71 years old, on average, when first monitored. Thirteen years later, those who reported little to no weekly walking had died at a rate 26 percent higher than those who walked regularly, but for less than two hours a week. Those who walked two to six hours a week had a mortality rate 36 percent lower than the under-two-hour walking group.
  24. I love being in the water, swimming and water aerobics. My surgeon said 2 to 4 weeks depending on how quickly my incisions healed. They were healed by 1 week but I waited until 4 just to be safe. 8 weeks doesn't seem necessary.
  25. I am two weeks out following Gastric Bypass surgery. I started my journey at 288lbs. and now I am 270lbs. It’s been trying these last two weeks but, the surgery has worked miracles in my life already! For that I am very grateful. I have never been less than 200lbs in my adult life, and I am anxious about that possibility. Yet, my health takes paramount and is the reason why I made the decision to have the surgery done. I have joined BariatricPal for a bit of insight and inspiration. It is my hope that by the end of this, I may inspire someone too.
