  1. When I had the band, I never had a problem with pasta. During the successful phase, I would make a large pasta dish, put it in 1 cup containers and freeze them. I treated myself to 1 per week. I'm still in the liquid phase now but would like to continue this down the road. I'm curious as to how others have been doing with the revision if they can tolerate pasta
  2. We have very similar stories. I had my revision to RNY a month ago. I'm no longer in pain because of the port, and I can eat without throwing everything up! I also had to go through the entire process again with the prep appointments, but it worked out well because my new practice was so much more thorough than the previous one I was at.

    Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

I have not been fated to have a revision. But I'm fearing that's where things are heading. Mickally: what kind of meds did you try ? How long did you have issues before they revised you? How much weight have you lost? Padraigma613: do u know why you gained the weight back? Was it because the stomach acid mimicked hunger and you ate more or is there another reason?? What was done for your Gerd?
  4. Cynthia - my doctor just had me follow a 2 week high protein/low carb diet. He didn't care if I didn't lose weight - just didn't want me to gain. He did my lapband 6 years ago and just did my sleeve revision. I'm so glad that he never required the liquid diet before the surgery like some doctors do

    Hungry post op?

When I got my lapband 6 years ago I started craving flavored water instead of plain so I use a lot of Crystal Light etc... I'm 5 days post op with sleeve revision. I'm still drinking flavored water but am so sick of the liquids. And to make matters worse, I'm cooped up indoors because we keep getting major snowstorms. The food commercials are killing me but I just keep telling myself " you need to heal "

    Sleeve or Bypass? Help!

As I've not had either surgery (I am trying to revise to another procedure from lap-band due to a slip, though, so I'm doing a lot of research), the only advice I can give is to take predictions of how good the sleeve is going to be with a grain of salt. After all, researchers were saying the same thing about the lap-band back when I was first banded. It was supposed to be the wave of the future and it had a predicted long-term success rate that rivaled or exceeded that of the bypass. We all know how that turned out. I can't tell you which procedure is best for you, that's up to you and your surgeon to determine. I can share a few things that I've found while researching: Malabsorbtion of calories with RNY lasts for 12-24 months, Vitamin malabsorbtion lasts forever. There are new transdermal vitamin Patches on the market that mean you don't have to worry about malabsorbtion of those nutrients since they aren't passing through your digestive tract. "Dumping" is not a guarantee with RNY. VSG can cause severe GERD, so if you already have GERD, it's not recommended that you have that surgery. You can succeed or fail with either procedure. Success with either one depends on your particular food issues, on how successful you are at resolving those issues, and how you've changed your lifestyle. There are a lot of people out there that are trying to revise from sleeve to bypass and from bypass to DS or band-over-bypass.
  7. Sorry you have to go through all of the classes again. I didn't have to since I had been through all of it before. I did get insurance to pay for the revision with no problem. I had much the same story with my 2 band revisions (I was first band in 2009 with a slip that next year and always struggled. I love this so far and I am now onto solids and having salad again (although it isn't much). A couple of things.... A great source of Protein I have found that works best was the premium Protein drinks from costco, they have only 1 gram of sugar and 30 grams of protein in one shake and only 160 calories. Also be sure they give your an anti nausea meds (have them filled before surgery) to take when you get home from hospital. And stick to the liquids before and after (just follow what they tell you) and you should be good to go. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing on your journey.
  8. I hear the gurgling of food or liquids at times. I know my band was removed as I waited one year before my revision.

    February 3rd Sleevers

I'm sure you're home by now, but the only time I felt pain, was on a bumpy gravel surface. It really shouldn't be that bad! Sorry if I'm late, but I've been so tired!!! I am a revision as well. I was banded in 2002. I kept it off for 8 years, then started having issues with band: band slippage x2; tube detachment; port leakage...after 4 surgeries to repair the band, itself, and 2 hiatal hernia repairs, my doc said we couldn't use the band anymore. To make a long story short, I gained 40 lbs. in 4 years! Not good!!! Therefore, the sleeve, or Sleevie Plunder, as I affectionately call him. I feel bad for saying this. Probably shouldn't. But I've been drinking Protein shakes. Well, shakes is stretching it a bit, because they aren't thick. I just can't imagine getting ANY protein in without it. I go to see the NUT and NP tomorrow and they might give me hell. BUT... I feel great! liquid doesn't stretch the stomach! My gas has dissipated as of the morning! On a positive note, I GET TO WEIGH FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!! I'll let you know how it goes! Keep me informed on your progress! Good luck to all of us!!!

    Had surgery 12 November 2009

Well, I guess it has been a few years since i wrote in this blog. So, I am having a revision from lap band to sleeve tomorrow. 9 Feb 15. I am excited but nervous. I would like to write every week. The exception will be this week. I will write after surgery and again over the week. See you on the Loser Bench!
  11. Yes!! You would be a good candidate. Have you lost any weight? I was banded in 2008, did really well the first 2 years and then a too tight fill was the start of my downfall. My surgeon who put in the band was 100% behind the revision. He said he's been doing it with all his lapband patients. I was lucky that I have a different insurance than I had back then because some will only do it once in a lifetime
  12. I am considering a revision. I was banded in spring of 08. I believe I had 4 fills and 3 were over fills where I could not get any fluid through. I went to the ER and they took the fluid out and I have not been back since. I was wanting to know If any surgeon would even consider it and if Insurance would pay for it. Feel free to share any and all info from your own experience! Thanks in advance!!
  13. I just had revision surgery but when I had the lapband, I found it easier to digest protein if it was cut up in a salad. I also started to like sliced apples with peanut butter as a snack. I'm hoping that I will be able to tolerate these foods with the sleeve. I won't know for a couple of weeks
  14. Mine also was 2/4 but I had the revision from band to sleeve. I'm a single mom and my son is doing a semester abroad so I'm caring myself. It hurts when I get in or out of bed, when I cough or sneeze. I'm already getting sick of the liquids and now hunkered in the house for the next couple of days as a blizzard is starting.
  15. Thanks for the kind words. I have been considering a revision. I was just a giant failure that I guess I don't know what the insurance company will do. I have not been to the bariatric doc for 4 years or so.
  16. I am a week and a half out of surgery (had revision surgery on 1/29/2015) and the nauseousness in overwhelming. The Protein shakes that were palatable pre-surgery make me nauseous just to look at them. I am fine to get in all the liquid I need, but the Protein Shakes are just too much. This didn't start until a few days ago and today I have declared a Protein shake free day in order to give myself a day to readjust. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take to overcome this? Jennifer

    SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015

Yeah. What time and location? Lets stay in touch. Is yours a revision? Happy and healing thoughts to you also. Touch basis with you tomorrow. Brigette
  18. My revision was 4 days ago. I had the same surgeon that put in my band. It feels like the same recovery. During surgery they saw that my band had slightly slipped and a hernia had formed which he removed. I was sent home the next day. The pain feels more like a cramping sensation. It hurts getting in & out of bed and off the couch. It also hurts when I cough or sneeze. I'm already getting sick of the liquid diet but its more important that I follow the plan so my sleeve can heal

    Lap Band Removal

Thank you so much Allielee I paid 20,000.00 in 2005 now they have to remove which our health care pays for but then for our health care to pay for the revision I have to wait 18 months and I am about to do that, I do not want to under go two surgeries which is why I am thinking of going to Mexico all for maybe 8,000.00. I am looking for reviews of people who went to Mexico I am in good health all way around so I feel I can make this trip. Thank you for your story. Pat

    I'm out....

I too was afraid, I was a revision so riskier but honestly it was the easiest surgery I ever had. I am 8 months out and so glad I did it. Fear is normal. I decided the risk was worth it for a healthier life. I am only 3 pounds from a normal BMI. Good luck and many prayers!
  21. Hi everyone I have to have my lapband removed I had it put in 2005 I was told that it is corroded now I have to have it removed. It takes 3 months to get that booked, and if I want to have revision surgery I have to wait 18 months, I do not want to wait that and gain back the weight. This has had be so upset I am thinking of going to Mexico. IN Mecico they can remove and do the gastric all at once. Has anyone had this done if so how are you and also is this a good idea to have both done at the same time. I would love to hear anyone story. Thank you
  22. Good Morning, I can not believe my revision surgery is tomorrow. I am excited but, kind of nervous. I am 47 years young but, I have 2 youngsters (12 and 6). I was very successful with the lap band until I developed an eye stroke and MGUS. Though I was told that there was no correlation between the band and these conditions, I started thinking that a foreign appliance in me was concerning. So, I had the Fluid removed from band and instantly started gaining. Also, when I tried to have fluid placed back in back, I could never get the correct restriction. I did not do so well on the pre op. My diet was quite liberal. Just Protein and veggies. Yesterday, I had 1 piece of chicken but, fried. And, also had a piece of cake early in the week. Other than that, not too bad. Please send prayers up to the Big Guy upstairs!! I will post tomorrow. This time I plan to take pictures and measurements. I will post my admittance picture tomorrow morning! Thanks everyone!! Brigette
  23. Hello wright616, My band to sleeve revision was last July 28. My band and my sleeve were performed by the same surgeon and he put in the band for "eternity." Unfortunately, that worked against me when it had to come out 6 years later. The band did not slip but I couldn't keep down anything by the end and the vomiting caused serious problems with my esophogus. I had a significant amount of scar tissue around the port and my surgery took 3 hours (about 1.5 hours longer than anticipated). In spite of the more extensive surgery, my hospital stay was the standard 36-hours. I can tell you that I felt very little "general" pain. Actually, the whole experience would have been very easy on me with one exception: there was a lot -- A LOT -- of discomfort where the port was removed. It was about the size of a grapefruit. I made the pain worse because I pulled the area once trying to get off the hospital bed to go to the bathroom on the first night. I pulled it again, badly, when I tried to get off the couch on the second day I was home. After that, the area hurt for about 2 solid weeks and then was just sore for another week after that. Walking helped for all the reasons that you've probably heard: pain management, accelerating the anethesia out of the body, weight loss, etc. I had absolutely no trouble walking from the first time that the nurse got me out of bed. That localized area burned while I walked but it wasn't unbearable, just persistent. Honestly, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No hesitation. No regrets. I wish you all the best with your surgery. Good luck! Embrace
  24. The plan that my nutritionist had me on prior to surgery was high protein/low carb and she had me eat an Atkins bar at night as the last food for the day. It really hit the spot. I'm only 3 days post-op from revision surgery but would like to continue with that when I move on to Solid Foods. I'm curious if anyone out there has been eating them

    updates please

I'm one of the bandsters from 2008. I did very well the first couple of years. By year 3, I got a fill that was too tight and everything went downhill from there. I ended up gaining most- not all of my weight back. This past Wednesday - 2/4/15 I had revision surgery - band removed and did the gastric sleeve. The surgeon said my band had slightly slipped & I had a hernia which he removed. I really don't want to fail again.
