How do you handle work?
M2G replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ideas for portable protein: cheese sticks greek yogurt Protein bars (be careful about ingredients, calories, carbs, sugar alcohols, etc.) hard boiled eggs protein shakes RTD (ready-to-drink) beef Jerky (again being careful about nitrates, sugar added, etc....I usually make my own) cottage cheese ( you can buy little individual cups or just use your own tupperware and fill it and keep it in a cold pack) I hope you actually get a BREAK ...you SHOULD be having a snack at 10am ...esp. if you are feeling hungry. I think they are legal rules that employers must follow in regards to working x number of hours and getting x number of breaks per hours worked. I think .5 hour lunch is fine, but then again I'm a contractor (I work for my former employer on a contract basis...no benefits, or legal lunch breaks, etc.) and I used to work 10 hour days and take only .5 hour lunch. It seemed like more than enough time. Now when I work, I never take a lunch break but hardly ever work more than 8 hours in a day. I eat at my desk, because my job is in front of a computer so it's not a big deal to eat and work at the same time. I don't take a lunch because I only get paid for the time worked, so I would rather get in, do my work and get out than take any type of unpaid break. -
Vegetarian here. I do a lot of eggs, greek yogurt, cheese, nuts and beans. I occasionally do tofu & edamame. I also eat whole grains like quinoa & farro. I then supplement with unflavored protein powder that can be added to soups as well as used in the protein shakes. I avg about 80 gms of protein a day.

In my 4th week post-op need advice!
pixistix replied to Nicole74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing that's really helpful to me is to make sure and eat a healthy snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Even if I didn't want it, I have a little yogurt -- something. Because if I allow myself to get too hungry, my judgment becomes impaired and all I want is JUNK! Until you have restriction, just try to focus on nutrition and exercise, and don't stress out about the dang scale. Good luck! -
Hey Dawn. I gained 15 lbs in the hospital and let me tell you, I was hot! Lol. I had orginally planned to only weight at the dr's office or monthly but tomorrow is my two week mark so I decided to sneak a peak. I have lost the reminder of the gained Water weight plus one pound. I like you am thinking that it may not be fast but it is progress! I am finding it so hard to get my Protein and fluids in. I love to drink, I just get busy and realize that it has been two hours since I drank anything. Then I try to drink slowly but efficently for the remainder of the day. Does that ever happen to you? Today I bought some different soups, snack size cottage cheese, and Greek yogurt with fruit on the side. I am hoping that having access to this "easy" protein will help. Also, have you started back with your supplements? I did only take bc pills. Now I am trying to take the nausea meds, bc pill, Multivitamin, b-12, vit d and Calcium. I just don't have the room for it all so it usually ends up being nausea meds, pain med at night, and bc pill. Just curious if you are taking supplements, how are you dividing them out? Hope you have a great day!!!

5 days post op and made it through Christmas!
amber2604 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm 5 days out and made it through Christmas and it's gatherings!! I didn't cheat once and in so proud of myself! I stuck to this full liquid diet. I have my first week follow up appointment with my surgeon on Monday and I'm hoping he moves me on to mushies!! I wanted so bad to eat crab cakes, mashed potatoes, and dressing but I couldn't. What did your doctors move you to after your first week? I'm eating pudding and yogurt but I'm getting hungry between meals and I have a small fill. Like 1.5 cc. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!! -
SHOCKED at how fast my motivation disappeared!
hokiemama posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I was SO motivated in preparing for this surgery. I read all of the booklets, did my research, and I was READY! I could not wait to get banded and I "knew" I was going to be very strict and do exactly as my surgeon instructed. Now, LESS THAN 2 months post-op, I am not doing as well as I should. I did fine on Thanksgiving and Christmas due to being on liquids or soft/mushy after my first fill. But as soon as I could start on regular foods, I'm "slipping up". Yesterday, I measured and did well all day. I got my water in AND exercised. But around 9:00 last night, I had a "mini binge". I ate a Little Debbie cake AND some chocolate dipped pretzels. I knew I would feel horrible afterwards, but did it anyways. I said I'd do better tomorrow. Well, that's today. I had 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for breakfast, 1/2 cup of chili with Greek yogurt for lunch, exercised.....then ate a 4 oz. bag of COMBOS!! What is up with that???????? I beat myself up terribly and the guilt is awful, but in those weak moments....I do it anyway. I am very glad that I had the sugery and I know I'll meet my goal 'someday". I just don't understand how I could feel so ready and motivated and lose that motivation so quickly. I thought I'd make it at least 3-4 months before I started "cheating". My surgical group only meets once per month for support group and I don't think I need psychotherapy. This forum is very helpful and I'm wondering if any of you lost your motivation so quickly and how did you get it back? I see people saying you have to have control and do the work. Well, lack of control of my eating is how I became obese! I know it isn't "easy" but I truly thought it would be a little easier than without the band. I know I have only had one fill also, and I do get full quickly with much less food than before...I'm just mad at myself! for breaking the rules so quickly. -

I love everyone's advice. I was doing great myself, then the holiday at work pot lucks started. I didn't go overboard, but it does tempt your taste buds to keep on eating. I had one piece of pizza at work. Sure I wanted more, but I resisted. And that was VERY difficult. I wanted to join in with everyone else, but I realize I can't. I have a friend at work who lost 34 pounds. When I passed her at 39 pounds her attitude changed. Now she goes out to fast food, etc, maybe she has given up. But she gave me candy for Christmas which I thought was inappropriate. I think she is trying to sabotage me. I had lots of cheese gifts for the postman, veterinary, etc. I have alot extra. I am taking them to work tomorrow, because if I have them in the house, yup, I might just eat them. I always carry either cottage cheese or yogurt with me everywhere, in case I get hungry. I take an extra protein drink to work every day. So far I have not needed it, but it is there just in case. I know I could not have the chocolate bar, that would set me off! I have been drinking french vanilla tea and caramel vanilla tea, both kinda dampen the choco monster in me... -
Anyone Get Sick Close To Surgery Date?
Sojourner replied to BeeBlueHeron's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's best to begin to focus on adjusting your eating patterns now to those you will need to comply with post op. Dry toast of any description/content and crackers are prime culprits for precipitating stuck episodes post op. I definitely understand the limitations of taking medications on an empty stomach; I don't tolerate that well. What you want to do is to coat the lining of your stomach. Though I understand that dairy products may increase the production of mucus in your body, and are not the best choice now, in the future consider drinking some 1% milk or eating SF very low fat yogurt when taking your meds will be helpful. I'd try some no sugar added natural applesauce to take along with your medications. You can even take the meds with your Protein shakes. But stay away from the dry wheat products; they are not your friends post op. -
I had seen a recipe using key lime yogurt, key lime sf jello and sf cool whip, then a graham cracker crust on the lap band post. Anyone know what it is? I cant find it now !!!!

Does this look ok to you? Sample meal plan 3 months.
Thucydides replied to BobbyD's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am nearly at 3 months and that is pretty close to what my meal plan looks like. Just like you, I use Greek yogurt as a mid-morning & mid-day snack. I have a Quest bar for Breakfast and have generally stopped drinking Protein shakes. Instead, I tend to eat 3 oz of turkey breast or lean roast beef at lunch. I wind up right around 100g of protein and 850-900 calories. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What can I eat two weeks post op?
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to fatiima86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgery centers provide a detailed meal plan, I would suggest using that as your guide. Its always best to follow your surgeon's recommendations, if you can. If you still feel like you need more info, reach out to their dietician for help. But most puree stage diets include things like strained soups (tomato, butternut squash, etc.), yogurt, refried beans (probably need to be thinned out a bit), applesauce, very thin masked potatoes, etc. Things that you can easily swallow, do not have chunks of any kind, and do not require any chewing. -
Good Morning everyone! I have a question for you all. I get stomach aches after I eat, almost every time. Is this normal? I did have a bout of pneumonia about a week after surgery and I was loaded with antibiotics. I thought I might need to eat some yogurt to get the normal bacterial flora back into my gut. Thanks for the help! Laura

Why are there so many different requirements for liquid diet? Some can have greek yogurt some can't. Some lean meats some can't. I wonder what is really necessary. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Welp, tomorrow is the big day! Arrive at the hospital @ 6:30 for surgery start @ 8:30. I'm not really nervous yet. More excited than anything. Weight has been a lifetime struggle for me, and finally I feel like I have a team on people on my side cheering me on. By far, the liquid diet has been the worst part of this experience. I didn't like soup before the diet, always been a salad person before a meal. About four days in, just the thought of having more soup turned my stomach. Sugar free jello, lowfat yogurt, and protien shakes really saved me here. I am sitting here at work just patiently waiting for 5:00 pm to hit. My bags are packed, all thats left is the showers with those spongy things and arrival. Before I know it I'll have a new tummy. I hope everyone else going through this experience has just as much excitement when they get to this stage as I do.

So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Megan1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am surprised you aren't allowed yogurt. Greek yogurt is one of my staples and has been since I started full liquids. -

You know that saying, you gotta kiss a lot of frogs until you find your Prince Charming? That's what the search for the right Protein drink is. My doctor gave me a list that was a full page front and back of Protein shakes, drinks and powders. It took forever going through that list. I had to rule out stuff I didn't like and stuff I was allergic to. You'd be surprised how many have stevia in them. I went to various drug stores like GNC & Vitamin shop as well as the Rite Aid/CVS types and bought single servings. Next I hit up Whole Foods and bought a few single serving packs there as well. Finally I ordered a few online. It took me 2 weeks to go through them all to find a few that I like the taste of. I ended up with 3: Prosource Plus liquid Protein unflavored. - This was good for mixing in Soups or tea. Ordered online. Orgain Organics premixed drinks - This was great for on the go. Price point was relatively low. I buy these at Walgreen's drug store. CVS whey powder. - I mix these with almond milk. I like the high protein content. Also mixes well with plain greek yogurt for a really great 1-2 punch of protein. Comes in vanilla or chocolate flavors. I buy it at CVS drug store. Other options are plain, greek yogurt thinned with low fat or fat free milk. This is an acquired taste. Plain yogurt is not sweet at all. However mixed with a bit of fruit or whey powder can be pretty tasty. Kefir drinks. They come in many flavors. I prefer Lifeway brand.

@@scootie, since you can eat dairy, I suggest you get a lot of Protein from FAGE plain Greek yogurt + whatever you want to add to it. I was surprised about how much protein was in it.
-
Actually Cheerios have 22 g of carbs per serving. Quite a bit more than Greek yogurt! And the carbs in no sugar added yogurt are all from lactose, much lower glycemic index than Cheerios.

Here are some things I eat at least 5 days a week: Breakfast - GNC Lean 25 Protein shake (Swiss Chocolate) and skinny latte (half coffee, half skim milk) Snack - Dannon Oikos Greek non-fat vanilla yogurt (5.3 ounce container) Snack - Red Delicious apple Snack - 1 glass skim milk I also eat a lot of grilled chicken, grilled salmon, grilled zucchini (getting the theme?).

breakfast is the hardest for me. I avoid carbs like the plague and i absolutely abhor oatmeal. SO what do you do. im not a fruit fan, its a texture thing, sure i like apples and pears. or pretty much any fruit blended into a Protein shake. Yes protein shakes are still my biggest rut food. I have one for lunch at work 5 days a week, as its quick, easy and lets face it zero sugar zero carbs, 30 grams of protein..whatsnot to like, and I actually enjoy the taste. But breakfast, yes turkey bacon every day pretty much. or a scrambled egg or sometimes a scrambled egg with cheese,, These are a few of my favorite things. I like yogurt but even the light and fit yogurts all have at least 6 to 7 grams of sugar, and has carbs that equates to the same as a bowl of cheerios. I like others, am so fearful of sugar and carbs that yogurt scares me too much. in a quick and easy mood, tuna in a small green salad is my go to for dinner. but normal dinner is chicken usually in some kind of sauce or marinade.

Premier Protein shake every morning. Greek yogurt after my workout. Tuna salad, seafood salad or veggie burger for lunch Jerky, almonds or cheese sticks for snacks...sometimes fruit Grilled (name a protein) with a veggie for dinner I swear this is my menu 90% of the time. Yup, you could say in a rut
-
That is good! I can do cottage cheese and Protein shakes. I tried crabmeat today and I didn't feel right so I'm putting that back in the closet for later. I can get tuna down real well. I have to go get some cream of wheat I love that stuff. Lol! I need a variety. So I guess oatmeal. I haven't tried yogurt yet. And I have my popsicles.

Ohhhhhhh the shakes.... The Protein shakes. Horrible. I can eat yogurt no problem so I am eating ones with high protein low sugar and feel soooo much better, have energy to spare. I'm going to get on scale tomorrow and we shall see what's what. Thank goodness no hunger at all but I'm super thirsty and have been trying to drink drink drink. I'm so glad you are doing well!!! Same here. Four years post surgery. I went to 160, now at 190 two years. I could not eat any less. No carbs in my household. Feel bloated constantly, feel I am getting fat in my upper body I never had, including stomach. Tried an organic clean diet and gained weight. Typical day is yogurt, boiled egg, cheese stick, cabbage salad, piece of protein meat for dinner. Lost so much hair I don’t want to go back for more surgery. Had to take Thiamine injections six months. Feeling screwed.
