@@Bandista the Genepro works great! Pre surgery I would mix one scoop into my morning coffee, sprinkle in while stirring, and it dissolves right in! 30 Gm protein with morning coffee is awesome! It would hold me for hours. Now I'm mixing half a scoop with my cream of wheats and yogurt. Eventually when I have my coffee again I will go back to my morning mix

I prefer Dannon Light & Fit Greek. The Yoplait has that "greek yogurt" flavor and texture that I never liked when I had tried it back when greek yogurt became very popular. But the Dannon tastes more like normal yogurt to me. Plus with only 80 calories and 12 grams of protein, you really can't beat it! I am addicted to the Key Lime and Raspberry flavors., although the Raspberry only comes in a 4-pack and the lids on the 4-pack options tear really easily and I'm always fighting with them to get them open.

Whoever came up with these Greek Yogurt 100 Calorie containers is an outstanding person because this is the ONLY thing getting me through my pre-op diet. I can have one of these a day and it's becoming the highlight of my entire day. So thanks, Yoplait!

@@kwcrnp I ordered the Genepro; thanks for that......I don't do shakes anymore (maybe once in a while as a treat) because they don't hold me but I am mixing the protein into my yogurt with other little mix-ins (otherwise, like shakes, it's a slider for me).... Sure jacks the protein up!

I do my strength training twice a week, and both days I have to eat a little more to maintain any energy throughout the day. But that means more Protein, not carbs, grease and salt. I would love to revert to pizza and chips, but I am far better off with a cheese stick and a couple of gherkins. Cucumbers and tomatoes have become my new best friends. The other day I made some protein fudge (Peanut Butter, cream cheese, ricotta, chocolate Protein powder, flax, wheat germ, chia, articial sweetener because I add melted 85% dark choclate. A one inch square is all I can eat at any one time. I think that if I cannot find a recipe for a low-carb pizza casserole, I am going to have to invent one. On strength days, I have a protein smoothie made with almond milk and yogurt and lots of berries, spinach if I have it on hand. I love bananas and other fruits, but more than one serving slows down my progress. I do the strength training because my body needs it and I feel more involved in the purpose. Cardio, for me, has to be fun or it ain't gonna happen (sorry, grammar nerds - overcome). My two favorite cardio sessions involve sex and / or music. When my happy man (very happy - he loves my choice of cardio) is not around, I pull out my videos: Hip Hop Abs, Hula, Bali, Pussycat Dolls, African Heat-Latin Beat, Salsa, Zoomba, Belly Dance, Richard Simmons Sweatin' to the Oldies........this old white woman has them all. I have weaned myself off of all-day TV. I am no longer part of the sofa (which encourages grazing). When I am puttering around the house, I crank up the satellite radio to Classic Rock Workout. It adds groove to my move all day long. I have too much sacrafice invested in my new body to let it fall into disrepair, now. My health and extra years added to my life are worth the committment this takes. I have had to pick myself up off the ground several times and get my resolve back, but nobody else can do the work for me. Maybe a good website for you would be Mark's Daily Apple - www.marksdailyapple.com. It has a Paleo/Primal focus and recommends incorporating fun into your week. Volley-ball instead of calesthenics, surfing instead of step classes, bike riding in a scenic state or national park instead of an exercise bike in the basement. There is nothing stopping you but your creativity. Go have some fun.

Hi, Cars, I was only allowed clear liquids and broth and the first week. Week 2 and Week 3 are Protein shakes, but I can have a little bit of yogurt with my Protein Shakes. Sounds like maybe you were a little early with the applesauce and yogurt, but doctor's orders vary so greatly, and if you are feeling fine, it sounds like you are good. My doctor gave me a very explicit list of what to eat, so I don't have a lot of wiggle room. Good luck! Great job losing 36 lbs, SleevedCJB! I'm down 35 lbs since starting my pre op appt. The weight loss slowed down a bit, but like you, I'm trying not to be a slave to the scale. I'll weigh myself once a week and that's it. And I know I need to start exercising now that I'm feeling more energetic.

Hello Cars, sounds like you're doing well. For 2 weeks post op I was allowed only clear liquids and Optifast shakes. Week 3 full liquid .. Which includes clear liquids plus yogurt and milk , unsweetened breakfast drink (carnation instant breakfast) cream soups, cottage cheese. Week 4 I'm allowed purees ( next week). I think you're doing fine with those things.. Just make sure nothing is too thick for your new stomach to handle.

How many of you continue the shakes in your diet after many months after surgery?
BLERDgirl replied to bellabill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@bellabill _ I was making protein shakes before WLS surgery and I continue to supplement my protein. My shakes are more like liquid meals since I start with protein powder, then add yogurt, fruit, veg. I need it when I am on the go and I also use them to get nutrition pre workout. I can't hold down solid food taken before a workout, but I can keep down a shake, On non gym days I less likely to make a shake and it helps me meet my protein goals and keep my calories low so my nutritionist is okay with it. I still gt more than 50% of my protein from regular food. -
Ibuprofen for Headaches/Migraines and menstrual cramps
Stephanie Stroup McIntosh replied to KamiDP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctors diet... 12 days liquid diet preop. 4 shakes per day. No solid foods. 2 weeks clear and full liquids. broth, Shakes, Strained Soups 3 weeks pureed foods. Yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, pureed moist meats 3 weeks soft foods. Boiled vegetables, moist soft meat, milk soaked Cereal @8 weeks, I am able to include all foods as my body tolerates them. Once you rid yourself of the need for caffeine, its not too hard to go without. Try to ween yourself down on the caffeine and creamer now, so it will be easier when you can't have them. If you need something in your coffee, use skim milk. Tylenol is all you should take for pain. The others can cause ulcers. Your cramps and headaches may very well change with the weight loss. I haven't had any headaches since my surgery and I was still on pain meds with my period, so cramps weren't an issue. -
I go for yogurt usually. I take a plain greek yogurt and mix in flavored Protein powder. You could also do SF Jello, pudding, or popsicles.
-
Another problem I have is that I don't like yogurt, tried them all. I know I'm not getting enough protein because I have to force myself to drink the shakes and soups. Thanks for the help.

how much do you eat?
Stephanie Stroup McIntosh replied to happpy3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just over 4 weeks out and on the pureed stage. I can do about 4 oz of yogurt, but anything else is less. Usually 2 oz. -
Just tried one yesterday (I am 2 and 1/2 weeks out) didn't care for it. Nut. said greek yogurt 0 fat was fine I actually put a tablespoon of honey on it, she said as long as sugars were under 15% would be fine. This helped me get Protein (go for high ones) and feel like your eating something. Pre made Protein drinks make me ill, just can't stomach them. Plus try Soups but make sure you puree them up. Must admit this gets old but thankful to the heavens that I do not have to go weeks and weeks like some brave soles. Have no problem with liquids but thicker foods I really need to train myself to eat slower because it hurts. Muddling my way though this, hope you enjoy something.

Sugar free/FF pudding, SF Jello or for a Protein boost take part skim ricotta, add a couple tsps of sweetener, a TBSP of unsweetened cocoa and a splash of vanilla. It is yummy and helps with chocolate cravings. Yogurts are good and so is cottage cheese with some SF jam mixed in.

Completely devastated and disappointed
Trayjay33 replied to greeneyes22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi sorry you had to hear that from your surgeon that was just unnecessary. MFP is pretty good and I think your diet is great overall. It's similar to what I eat actually. But we all go through what's going on moments. Sometimes our body needs more variety or it gets in a pattern of holding on to the weight. At Least that's what I'm telling myself to stay positive. ???? The Lentil soup might have a lot of Protein but I'm not sure about the carb content, might be high. Also, the same with vegetable soup high carbs. As far as fruits I had to switch up from Raspberries and Blueberries to Strawberries and small plums because my body wasn't digesting them properly after a while. I try to stay away from apples most of the time...high in sugar. Another option for fruit is kiwi and/or a 1/2 small blood orange but again in moderation. For yogurt I like the Yoplait 100 and choboni 100. For vegetables just not starchy vegetables corn or potatoes. Also if you are exercising, try getting in adequate calories if possible. It will turn around soon. -
I eat about 6 bites (the size of bite you would give a two year old) of real meat and adout 3 spears of asparagus or 3 broccoli floweretts. If I have my cheese roll ups I have 4 slices of cheese each with a piece of deli turkey and roast beef on it. Either meal it takes about 30 min to eat. If I eat 5oz yogurt I mix in a little of my protein powder in it and it also takes about 20-30 min. While I am at practice I normally have an Atkins snack bar and that only takes about 5 minutes. I used to put all of my food in a 1/2c pampered chef measuring cup. But after I got used to seeing the serving size I am able to "eyeball" it on a plate. Although I still do it with soups or things that I am unsure of. I still limit my grain carbs to lunch or before, lunch is my "biggest" meal where it is usually a 6" subway sandwich either chicken or turkey and ham. That takes me about an hour to eat it because of the bread. Most days I eat about half of that the pull the meat and veggies and eat it by itself.

How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?
Rogofulm replied to FishingNurse's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm not 2-3 years out, but I am below my goal and trying to figure out how to proceed. I've been posting a lot that my Snacks are all protein-based, like nuts, cheese, Jerky, and yogurt. I've also stated that fat and calories do not seem to matter. BUT.... The more I read from you veterans and how hard it gets to lose weight that has crept back on, the more I wonder about whether my tricks will continue to work in maintenance. My new theory is that while we're in ketosis, fat and calories really DON'T matter - the weight will continue to come off by nature of the ketosis. However... The only way to stop losing once we get to our final goal weight, is probably to knock ourselves out of ketosis, right?. And how do we do that? Probably by adding back some carbs. And that threatens to bring back the slippery slope! My doc said to only add back the carbs you would eat with a healthy meal (brown rice, whole wheat Pasta, sweet potatoes) and not anything that would tempt you to go to the fridge or pantry for a handful. Okay, that makes sense. But now I'm also thinking that once we stop the ketosis, fat and calories may start to count again. Meaning that we can't use those high-fat Protein snacks to stay satisfied anymore. (Goodbye handfuls of nuts and cheese.) So what do we replace them with in order to not gain weight, but not lose anymore either. Do you WLS veterans have any thoughts on this? Is this even an appropriate question for this thread, or should I start another? Thanks!!! -
It really depends on how far out you are from surgery and what you are eating. I am almost 8 months post-op. I can now eat about 3-4 oz. of dense meat (chicken, pork, etc.) in a meal. If I'm eating something liquid-y... like greek yogurt, I could easily eat 6 or more oz. I eat the 5 oz. containers every day and never feel restriction with them. I also have no trouble eating a 2 oz. Protein bar in about 5 minutes.

Artificial sweeteners?
Debbieduck4 replied to alindsey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, do! It's my cheaper homemade version of Starbucks iced Passion tea I did okay with the sugar free jello and sugar free Popsicles during clear liquids phase... I don't know if it's because we're eating such a small amount at that time or what, but now I just eat a little real sugar or Stevia when I want a treat. I just keep it to a minimum. Mostly I'm a fruit lover though when I'm craving something sweet, a smoothie made with Greek yogurt, ice, almond milk, stevia. banana, and frozen blueberries is so delish too! -
When did you start to feel hunger?
JamieLogical replied to marbelvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Working out definitely increased my hunger. I had to add a morning snack because I was getting hungry between breakfast and lunch. When I started working out I added a reduced fat string cheese as a morning snack and some kashi cereal or granola to my afternoon greek yogurt. By adding a little bit of carbs to my afternoon snack, I had more energy for my workouts, which I always do right after I get off work. Those small changes helped alleviate my hunger and helped fuel me through my workouts. -
1,000 calories a day & not losing
XXShelXX replied to Quelyn01's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sorry you are having a tough time. But going back to old habits is really just that...a habit. Habits can be broken. You honestly have to ask yourself how much you want this. If you want it more than anything then you will have to get really strict. By this, I mean you need to be tracking everything. Eat your Protein first for real. Eat the 4-5 bites of dense protein (beef, chicken, etc) and then whatever room is left..and it won't be much, eat a couple of bites of veggies. By this time you should be full. This is for your two to three main meals. In between meals if you feel like you need to have a snack then maybe have a yogurt, steam a pack of Edamame, or peel a cutie (halo) and eat it slow. But seriously track everything! Losing weight is 90 percent what you are eating so it's got to be a problem there. Don't guess, track it. You can do this if you really really want to. In fact, nothing is stopping you. I say go for it! You still have a sleeve. Good luck!
